The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary’s mission is to provide a self-sustaining African carnivore sanctuary for the purposes of wild species preservation through education, awareness and funding, especially pertaining to the rapid decline of large carnivores in Africa due to habitat loss, human-predator conflict, unscrupulous hunting, disease and their illegal trade.
On this channel, The Lion Whisperer films the majority of his footage using a GoPro camera, allowing viewers to get as close as possible to the lions, leopards and hyenas at the sanctuary.
Kevin Richardson hopes to provide viewers insight into the lives of these beautiful creatures and in turn, by watching the videos on the channel, viewers will be directly contributing to the conservation of these majestic animals.

Kevin, isn't lying when he says he loves all the lions. He wouldn't be doing what he does if he didn't love ALL of them. He said he had a good relationship with Gandolf but he didn't have a relationship with Cussasa and Sibindi! I don't know why if someone knows could you please tell me. I was under the impression that beside George and Yamme and Livy and Ginny who were older cubs when Kevin took them on. He had hand raised or worked with the others since they were little ones. And of course he has better relationships with Meg and Amy God rest her soul I MISS that lioness I still tear up at the mention of her name. He saved their lives TWICE once when they were young cubs when Mattetau put them in the drinking water and the other time when they were 16- 17 months old and they were sold to the lion farm hours away. Bobcat and Gabby are ones too he has closeness with and Vayettes and Ginny and Livy. You can tell Gabby and Ginny love him their the only to ladies that still jump on him. I was wondering WHY he doesn't do enrichment walks with Gandolf and Cussasa and Sibindi. Now if anyone can answer why Kevin has no relations with the girls I would love to know. I thought he hand raised them. And doesn't it hurt his relations with Gandolf not interacting with him up close not thru the fence? I just thought some lions there are older and he didn't. Walk them because of they are up there in age. And he wants to let them alone to live their time out in peace from visitors.

1:28 As soon as Kevin said "I haven't been around these lions for a long time" and one of the girls gave him a snarl, I got really really nervous. Scared for Kevin even.
More often we see Kevin interacting with many of the lions as if it's nothing and perhaps I am guilty of making myself believe that they are very friendly animals. That they can be, but they are after all, wild animals.
This was a sobering lesson for me, and reminded myself of what Kevin is dealing with on daily basis. I also have a whole new respect for Kevin, who does not exhibit some sort of "misplaced" invincibility when it comes to his relationship with the lions, but backs off when necessary.

Cussasa and Sibindie are the only 2 wild lions Kevin has at his park. All the other lions, he raised since they were cubs and in Ginny and Livvy's case a year old. That's why he doesn't go in their enclosure and he can't have the same relationship he has with his other male lions with Gandalff because the lionesses are wild lions.
@@rusenchacha647 Ya I remember, the lionesses were very young then. Maybe 2 or 3. And they kept their distance from Thor and Kevin. Now they are 12 years old I'm sure.

He also stated, that all those scars on Gandalf's face were from the girls. Did you ever see the video were they tried to introduce Meg and Ami to some male lions. The girls werent haven't it. They were ready to rip the males apart.

In one on one attacks in the wild, a lion will employ one of two methods to disable their prey, the throat clamp and the muzzle clamp. With human prey, it really doesn't matter. A lion would barely have to open its mouth to fit your whole head in.

I was holding my breath when the girls walked out and every now and then looked over their shoulder to check on you. Very happy Meg's having neighbors she can have a chat with every now and then 😂 and Gandie 💕 He's such an impressive big boy!

I’m very happy for Gandalf, Cusassa and Sibindie moving to a new enclosure 🥰 Knowing their wild temper, it is another testament for Kevin to guide them to the new space in such a piece of cake manner!! And an interesting anecdote that his face scars are from the two ladies!
Gandalf’s name was meant for him. His personality and confidence is a mirror image of Gandalf from the well beloved Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. A much loved character and a loved and contempt beautiful White Lion! His two ladies are gorgeous themselves and this video really shows how the personalities can differ between the species. Thank you for another informative and loving video.

Conny Landes I saw a tour of Kevin’s sanctuary and the tour guide said Gandalf weighs about 550 pounds. The guy said he is the heaviest lion they have.💕🦁💕
My dream would be to meet Kevin and his lions. I think he’s an amazing human being and I have the utmost respect for the commitment and work he puts into the well being of these lions.

J Burnett He is a white lion but white lions go from white to blonde. He is beautiful! Apparently, he weighs about 250 kg or 550 pounds. I heard this from a youtube video of a tour at the sanctuary.😊

I'm interested to hear is there a particular reason why you don't have relationship with Cussasa and Sibindie, did they came as adults in the sanctuary? And how their presence affected your relationship with Gandalf? If Gandalf was alone in the enclosure would you interact with him? If yes, do you miss these interaction with him? It really blew my mind seeing them walking between the enclosures. I often forget their size until they are alongside a car or Kev. Such incredible creatures and the videos really help showcase that.

So, very happy to see this pride featured today!! So little is known about them, they've remained mysterious. Gandalf, is such a majestic boy. The girls are so beautiful. Remembering how Thor seemed to be ignored by them, it's good to see they coexist well with Gandalf, despite the battle scars he carries. How old are the girls? How did they come to be under your care? Thank you for introducing them!!
Love the way all animals are respected, and also very important to see how his interaction with the animals changes depending on how intimate the relationship is. So much knowledge and respect

I have been so curious about these 3. I remember seeing Gandalf and Aslan in some of the way older videos when the lions were in much larger prides. He reminds me a lot of Bobcat personality wise: playful and lovable, but doesn't like people and lets them know it, and he is a talker. Majestic too! So the girls are semi-wild? They never connected with Kevin? That's too bad, they are beautiful ladies. At least Gandalf was able to win them over. So does that mean he never gets 1x1 interaction with Kevin anymore?

Cussasa ran out to deal with ANYTHING that was in her way, come Hell or high water. Gandalf just trotted out, kind of curious. Relaxed. But Sibindie shows great common sense. She WAITED until she knew it was safe, until she knew that Gandalf and Cussasa would scare off any danger that was outside of the fence. THEN she came out. Clever girl.

Wish you could have gone in a bit more detail about why you aren't so close with Cussasa and Sibindie. Were they rescued/adopted at an older age when they were more independent?
Myself, as well. I was thinking they were older when rescued, but that's just my imagination.
Me too. I would have like to learn more about that as well.
He met the girls when they are already at a mature age which means they really have not much interest in making new bonds and as far as I know they haven't really had any close relationships with humans so they are pretty much wild lionesses so they were very cautious when it comes to interacting with Kevin.
I just remember the older video's he did with Thor Sr. At the other place he worked at. He was in pen with Thor and Cussasa and Sibindi were in there as well hiding. Kevin said Thor ignores them. So I just assumed he was in there with them all those years ago that he felt safe being in there with them. This video was the first time I heard him say he didn't have relations with them. But he has had relations with Gandolf because I remember seeing video of Aslund and Gandolf. That's why I'm confused why he isn't interacting with Gandolf anymore. Sad to see and unfortunate for Kevin and Gandi But, here is a prime example of Kevin's LOVE and DETICATION he sacrificed his relationship with Gandi by pairing Cussasa and Sibindi with him so he wouldn't be lonely. Best case scenario for lions. Now I know why no enrichment walks for this group. Gandolf is a Beast of a lion, I could not believe how HUGE he is and the girls too. Meg and Amy I thought were BIG! RIP dear sweet girl💔

I am sure once off camera Kevin went to see his Meg. I am 100% sure this is a daily ritual checking on Meg. I wouldn't doubt Kevin having camera's up in and around her enclosure.

Hey Kev, I realize this is off topic, but is there any chance for an update on Nicholas the hyena? I think a lot of us would love an update on how he's doing.
I don't know if that is possible. Nicholas was released into the wild with his mate and little Nicholas several years ago. He does have a collar I think and they can keep track of him that way, but I don't know if updates are possible.

Hey I was wondering, have you see Netflix’s documentary called Tiger King? It is about these three awful tiger zoos in America and it made me so mad to watch. They keep these big cats in tiny cages and on leashes and of course make profit off of things like petting zoos and it’s honestly disgusting. I feel like it would make you very disappointed. If you have any thoughts I’d like to hear them. One of the zoos they talk about is a ‘rescue’ zoo but it doesn’t seem much better. The documentary makes me appreciate how you care for your lions even more because you do it properly.

It’s such a privilege to be able to be part of these wonderful animals lives.I have been lucky to have petted and cuddled a baby tiger, leopard and cheetah and hug a beautiful elephant. They were all rescues. They were in good condition when rescued so didn’t have any signs of abuse. You are a hero to these animals and you can see the love they have for you. 🦁💜
These are rescues too. From the canned hunting industry. If you're in South Africa, you shouldn't be playing with the baby lions, because that's where they end up.

Stupidly, I thought you had a close relationship with all the Lions and Lioness' but it makes more sense that not every personality wants close interaction. Nevertheless they're incredibly lucky to have you in their lives and I don't doubt they know it. 🐾
I know these are two different situations but after seeing the "Tiger King" documentary" on netflix it's cool to see people like Mr Richardson who actually care about big cats and don't use them for money or to feel powerful.

Kevin: How are the lions' names chosen? Also, what are the translations for some of the names, specifically those that are not European-centric? Love you guys and thanks for all you do.
all I know is Yame, which is short for an African word for "Lion". George is named after George Adamson, a famous lion conservationist in Kenya, I believe. He describes them in a video from a year back.
Kusasa is a Zulu word which means Future or Tomorrow.
Sibindi means Courage but can also mean Liver in Zulu.

How did you acquire gandalf,cussa,and sibindie ? They seem to be very relax around but Kevin you know your lions and maybe someday you will be able to show some love to them.meg is next to them maybe she will show them how it feels to touch you. These girls really gained up on Gandalf and marked up his face ? Most girls when mean business will do this.
