  • These exercises for Bell's palsy should help to improve the mobility and strength of the muscles of your cheeks and lips. Please only start to do these active exercises after the nerval recovery allows to send signals to your muscle and your muscle on the affected side can be moved. Please make sure to control the movements well (with the help of a mirror) and to prevent other unintentional movements of other muscles of your face, which are not part of the exercise. Make enough breaks between the exercises and stretch the parts of your face which might feel tight.

    Hello, 1st - thank you for these videos. These are the best I have found to date. I’ve used all of them in preparing for surgery and post surgery to strengthen my facial muscles from nerve damage (I had the Gracilis Free Muscle Transfer). They have made a difference in my recovery. What happened to your 2 other videos? I used those daily and would love to have them again! I remember what was on them but was nice to have. Anyways, thank you again for this service!

      Hi Olivia, thank you very much for your message and for sharing your experience! I wanted to first publish this video, with better instructions and guidance for people with Bell's Palsy who have just started with active exercises (beginners). I now want to edit and revise the 2 "old" videos and publish a new version for "advanced" people, who already have learned to control their facial muscles and want to improve the strength. Thank you very much for your patience in advance! I wish you all the best!

    Thank so much for this excellent video! I would like to ask a few questions:
    1. To say the truth, my English isnt too perfect. I dont understand the full meaning of this part: ... Your healthy side not push too strongly, BUT SHOULD INSTEAD STICK TO THE RANGE OF MOVEMENT OF THE WEAKER SIDE.
    therefore, symmetry is important. Do I understand correctly that the healthy side can only be moved as much as the range of motion of the weak side allows? but why should the healthy side be helped with a finger?
    2. At the 3rd and 4th exercise you didn't speech about fingers help. However, at BP especially the inflate is impossible without finger's help (take the weak sided corner of mouth). What di you think?
    3. you said you should only do it on the healthy side as much as the weak side allows
    but in this case, why do you have to put your finger on it? what means this exactly "fingers can help to lead the cornere of the mouth..."?
    4. At the end, the stretching. I have to strech both sides? On an other video, the consultant said : ín BP the HEALTHY side haver to work more (because it also works instead of the weak side under BP) , this healthy side is more tired so, we have to stretch the HEALTHY side.
    So you don't think it's a problem, in fact it's advisable to stretch both sides the same way?
    Thank you very much!!!!

    • @logopadiekreativsltherapyo7504
      @logopadiekreativsltherapyo7504  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,
      1.the weak side determines how you do the movement on the healthy side. If the weak side can only move a little bit, then the healthy side should also only move a little bit, so that it looks more or less the same on both sides (symmetry). The finger on the healthy side can help to feel the symmetry (by the feedback of your fingertips) and save the perception of the symmetry in your brain. In this way the learning process of symmetrical movements may be supported.
      2.Yes, you can help with your fingers.
      3.The movement might be uncoordinated or in different speed on the healthy and week side. So your fingers can lead your mouth to move smoothly and in the same way on both sides.
      4.It may depend on the stage. In the beginning the healthy side may work more. But in a later stage, in the case of synkinesis, the weak side may feel tense and and muscle contractions may be produced involuntarily. In addition the massage helps to improve the blood flow in the immobile weaker side. Please do the stretching it the way it feels good and comfortable to your face muscles. It is also important to improve the perception of the muscle activities of the face, to realize the different activities and to learn to coordinate the muscles individually. I wish you all the best!

    • @logopadiekreativsltherapyo7504
      @logopadiekreativsltherapyo7504  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I recommend you do the exercises 2-3 times a day, in a relaxed way without too much effort. In the beginning you should also be treated with Prednisolone by your doctor to improve the healing process of your Bell's Palsy. I cannot promise a full recovery. It depends on different aspects and the severity of the nerval damage.... I wish you all the best.

      @logopadiekreativsltherapyo7504  ปีที่แล้ว

      The video may help to improve the movements of your lips and cheeks. However I cannot promise you a full recovery. I don't know your muscular situation and in which way you suffer from synkinesis. An individual therapy (neuromuscular retraining, EMG Bio Feedback) may help to reduce synkinesis. Another option is to discuss surgical options with your neurologist to see if there are possibilities to improve the symmetry of the face in this way. I wish you all the best!

    Do these work with synkinesis?

    • @logopadiekreativsltherapyo7504
      @logopadiekreativsltherapyo7504  ปีที่แล้ว

      The treatment of synkinesis requires an analysis of your muscular situation first, which facial muscles work / react in which way. So an individual designed therapy (neuromuscular retraining, EMG Bio Feedback) would be helpful to treat synkinesis and relearn the correct movements. In addition there are surgical options, which you can discuss with your neurologist, that can help to improve the symmetry of your face.
      Of course, you can also do the exercises of this video carefully and in a well controlled way, and see if you can do it in a relaxed way without involuntary movements and relearn the correct movements In the case of synkinesis, it is especially important to do the massage and stretching regularly to allow tight muscles to relax. Tight muscles may hinder the proper movements (pull towards the opposite side) and false muscular movement patterns may sneak in.... I wish you a good recovery!
