I saw one video where a cop stopped someone and it's because the kid was doing wheelies riding around town. My take is that because it's quiet, arguably does have pedal assist and you drive pretty normal, then the likelihood of you getting stopped is very slim. Mine comes Wednesday, super pumped!
Here in UK we can buy a road legal version as you say but then its still illegal to ride it on bicycle lanes etc where it is actually safer and more fun. We we stick to ebikes with pedals because police pretty much accept those as bikes as long as you dont go much over 20mph.

I asked him if he's been stopped by cops and he said the cops didn't stop him even after he would pass by them several times. LA also has the ebike group rides but the cops haven't really said anything about that either, really odd lol. I've been on the fence about buying one but tbh I don't really want it for wheelies or craziness, I just like it better than the Super73 & the way it looks. I want to use it as a commuter. As for the Surron itself, I recently got one and have been commuting to work with it. Definitely more fun than my Super73. I like that it feels like a motorcycle. I think putting pedals on it takes a little away from the aesthetic appeal, though not by much, and I understand folks do it for law compliance. I'm like you, I don't do wheelies or go super fast on it. I haven't even cut the green wire and almost never ride it on Sport mode. It's fun enough on eco and gets me to point A to point B. I recommend getting one, it's a good investment down the road, imo. Save on gas, insurance and overall it's fun! Enjoy!
In Connecticut, it requires working headlight, brake light (needs mod). Then a trip for inspection through a main DMV branch, to get issued a title with new VIN assigned, insurance, and then register-able. A lot of work, plus then it is considered a personal vehicle so you pay property taxes in your locality, every year. But it allows the owner to ride on road without harassment, and also get an OHV reg sticker. All of this does in Connecticut is allows the owner to ride in two specific places in the state. Everywhere else, technically the Sur Ron is not allowed on trails period.
I imagine you could get it registered if you went through the same process as if you built a bike or car completely from scratch. It would be a lot of work with inspections but I bet it could be done.
i live in socal and is it true if i get it registered as a moped that i cant drive in the bike lane? I would only want to drive in the bike lane cus the surron isnt made to keep speed with cars
In Canada, which have similar rules with regards to ebikes, you simply put a pedal kit on it and viola, its legal...I got mine out of Quebec and because they get them shipped in with the Surron pedal kit they are deemed legal. Of course theyre really not because the bike goes faster than 32 kph, and has more than 500 watts ( and it is here that the law falls on its face..any really legal ebike would fail on this point because if you put a watt meter on it and went up hill, all of them would pull more than 500 watts making them instantly illegal. Some idiot wrote the rules about ebikes without understanding how an electric motor really works).
No I dont actually...I drove mine the summer and was harrased and kicked off of MTB off road trails, adn then I fell and broke 2 ribs...I then sold it...It was fun but it is a stretch to pass it off as an ebike. I got a Frey Am1000 MTB that you can actually pedal, and I love it...no hassles, just get in and ride...

Screw registration. Just got one and my in town (SoCal) approach is like you described, ride it like a bicycle. We'll see how long this works out but good so far after a couple crosstown trips.

So basically you could make it legal if surroun provided a title and a vin number and if you were to put break lights, turn signals, headlights, and a horn on it
The range with batteries are measured by the "amp hour" capacity. So this battery is 60v and 32amphr, it can do 32 amps continuous for 1 hr. If you were using 64amphr continuous, it would only last 30 minutes. That being said... The battery lasts for about 20 miles riding hard off road. If you would cruising on the street, it would like much long. Around 60milws give or take.

There's no ambiguity in the law of my state (Texas): these are illegal on the road, period. Not being able to register it doesn't put it in some kind of legal "grey area." Making and selling bikes that can't be legally registered is a big problem with the e-bike industry.
Look into getting a ""builders title"" now since you technically didn't build the sur-ron from the ground up it might be tricky might be helpful to hunt for a "Autotag Notary" someone that knows your state laws inside and out and pay them to handle all the paperwork you will just have to take the bike for safety inspection which will aslo run you a few dollars ($1-$500 different everywhere) plus everything else the whole process could be anywhere from $200-$2,000 just for vin plate, title , C.O.O. and inspection. Than there is lighting kit all that stuff

I'd love to buy one but here in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, the cops would run you down and treat you like America's Most Wanted. They hate any kind of dirt bike here, electric or gas, doesn't matter. Zero tolerance. They'll impound the bike and arrest you on your first time getting stopped. No questions asked. (trust me, I know😒) It sucks because there's nowhere legally for people to ride. Tons of open land and the Pine Barrens would be great but there's always tons of signs posted and some bored cop or Karren just waiting for you to slip up. Only option is to buy one and be prepared to run... Hey sur ron, make a street legal one. And The Fuzz..... relaxxxxxx!!! Don't you think you have bigger fish to fry? Leave the kid on the dirt bike alone......

I got mine registered in Seattle as a motorcycle. Added my own brake lights, blinkers, high/low beams, and some mirrors. Never been stopped by cops.

Put a pedal kit on it. I did it with mine. It now classifies as a type 3 electric bicycle as long as you keep it under 29 mph in the state of Illinois
