re: Tesla Layoffs & sales slowdown... From Yahoo Finance: Musk has complained in the past that high rates and higher overall prices are a hindrance to EV adoption and said lower prices are the key to driving growth.
Despite that statement, we have a new ultra expensive CyberTruck, and the indefinite postponement of the "Model 2". Elon needs to get his head out of Xitter, and back to things that actually matter, unless he's looking to be the male Mary Barra.
The Cyberflop is a failure.

Hyundai knocked it out of the park with the Ioniq 5. Their other EVs are just weird. Ioniq - weird. Ioniq 6 - weird. Kona - weird. Maybe has something to do with that.
Agreed, and the Kona is also pricey in Europe compared to Kia e-Niro
It costs $60k Canadian dollar to replace a slightly dented bottom of the battery pack of the Ionic 5 with a new pack. They don't repair the battery pack! It cost $15k USD to replace the battery pack of a Hyundai PHEV. Outrageous!
Sales in the US have skyrocketed in March. Way up for Ioniq 5, 6, EV6, and EV9. Who knows why worldwide sales are down, but they've got the US market figured out.

@@trungson6604 Tesla did have layoffs, but I didn't see any news of layoffs being in any way related to disappearing demand, especially weak Cybertruck demand.
I had a good look at the genesis range last year at a Fully Charged show. I was amazed at the quality of the vehicle! To me they are on par with Mercedes if not better. All the road testers really like them as well. But it's an unknown brand name to most. Maybe I'll be able to buy one very cheap in future.
Within Hyundai Group, Kia refocuses on hybrids. Why did you omit this important context? It shows that Hyundai Group plays safe, both hands.
Also, would you praise legacy carmakers if their sales of ICE cars dropped by 35% and they declared they will "stay the course"?
Also, your comparison to Kodak is flawed, because when digital cameras appeared, there was no return, while here EV cars appeared, there was a huge sales boost, and now sales drop siignificantly across the board, despite huge price reductions.
Chinese EV makers, except probably BYD, are unprofitable. How did you figure they will be top car makers across the world in 2030? Sam, you look like a delusional fanboy, who cannot handle the reality that EVs have natively limited practical use.
EV advocates need patience. Sam lives where an EV is somewhat useful, but millions of people don't see any advantage for electric cars in 2024. The EV products are not ready for the general market. Maybe in 25 years? We are not seeing any significant recycling for batteries or solar panels. Is burying potentially usable stuff the sustainable solution ? Tax payer dollars

The ev propaganda he must spread and brainwash the world
Why?
Viking, love the work you put into your channel but yet again you're missing the story here. Hyundai sales are way up in March for all models of E-GMP cars in the US. I have zero idea why they're having issues in other markets but their US sales have been absolutely stunning. Ioniq 5 up 58%, Ioniq 6 up a ridiculous amount (it was new last March so that's not a surprise), Kia EV sales up 151%. This is not a general "Hyundai EV problem" it's just in some markets. They're killing it in the US.
When you speak of Hyundai you have to speak of the whole group which is also composed of Kia and Genesis. And they, as a whole, are doing great. They're now the number 3 automaker worldwide. And they are also number 2 in sale in the US when it comes to pure EV sales.
That's despite being hurt by the lack of no $7,500 federal rebate, but their new plants going up is Georgia scheduled to open later in 2025, are now going to open by the end of this year, 2024. And they'll all be eligible for the full $7,500 rebate.
You have to wait for a year in Canada if you order an Ioniq 5 so there's no lack of demand here so I assume they aren't making many of them.
In Canada, and I didn't buy an i5 due to the two-year wait in early 2023.
There is a lot of noise around the decrease in EV sales worldwide and yet nothing is being said about ICE sales for the same period and while I dont have numbers if the reports coming out of Ford and GM are anything to go by they also have record ICE inventory which clearly suggests that the downturn is not confined to EV alone, it in fact a general downturn
I think you stuck your foot in your mouth on the tesla layoffs. I see that your video is gone. You better come clean on your error for your own credibility. Seems like you were clickbaiting.
He can’t survive without spreading ev propaganda all over the world in TH-cam
Wow! So much hatred! He said he didn't think that layoffs based on weak cybertruck demand were likely to happen and he was right. There were layoffs, but they were almost exactly the same layoffs you saw at Tesla before previous growth waves. He said you have to be crazy to think that weak demand would be causing layoffs and this is still correct.
@@jefflittle8913 He did piss me off.

I guess two Hyundai cars that had their batteries damaged from road debris and needed a $ 60,000 battery replacements didn't help Hyundai sell cars!
I think there were several examples of this happening. Getting a real bad reputation ... in Canada anyway
Tesla news: about 10% of the staff will be fired due to disappointing sales...
I think in the USA infrastructure is a huge problem for sales. Once NACS is adopted and cars are available with that standard, sales should pick up. Why buy now when you can wait and be able to use SuperCharger network?
The first ionic was incredibly efficient getting almost 200km real world range out of 28kwh battery. Current EV's are heading into the wrong direction. Oversized with aerodynamics if a fridge and acceleration approaching that of an F1 car. What are they thinking?
Electric vehicles are similar to computers with the technology rapidly changing. This causes resale value to plummet. This causes buyers to hold off until the vehicles mature.
That doesn't surprise me. There aren't enough available.
Hooray for Hyundai. We love our Ionic 5, fantastic vehicle, and look forward to seeing what they bring out next.
You don't know why the Hyundai evs don't sell?... let me use these emoji to see if you get it.
🤢💰💰
How can the future be electric when it costs a fortune to insure, repair, or even maintain an EV (see EV tyre prices) ? Until these costs are in parity with ICE and hybrids, the future is hybrids.
Many EU countries stopped subsidies, that possibly the largest contributor to Q1 decline.
I can only assume that the majority of the losses in sales are in China. There is no point selling cars at a loss in China when the government is assisting in the eradication of non Chinese brands.
Cybertruck is a big ugly overpriced flop!
After 18 months on a wait list for an Ionic 5, with at least another 6 months to go, we turned to Tesla where we could actually by an EV. Manufacturers have to make these vehicles available to increase sales.
You made a good choice! I have a 2019 Tesla M3SR. 😁
It is not a crisis at all. This is only a matter of supply finally meeting surges in demand and balancing for period until demand surges again.
So how do big companies make money? Mainly by overvaluing, overpricing and hype of products just just like all their competitors because the last thing they want is to break with precendent. So yeh lotta fear built around business.
EVs don’t have the problem that internal combustion vehicles do. They have nothing to lose. ICE has a great deal to lose. So much.
EV are done.
What are you doing still here, Elon Fanboy?
You said you'd go away if you were wrong about a Tesla mass lay-off.
No. He said that he would close the channel if there were layoffs caused by weak auto demand and weak cybertruck demand especially. That didn't happen.
Why are you choosing to live a life of hatred?
The problem is no electric Hyundia vehicles in Canada under $50000. No one can afford that!
If I'm not wrong, Hyundai's main EV sales were in the US. The US is entering a credit squeeze brought on by ICE auto loan defaults affecting bank lending to lower credit score customers. Because of this more and more folks are buying used cars with cash or smallish loans that they can afford the monthly on.
It is this credit squeeze that is the reason that ALL new car sales are dropping except for the very lowest priced vehicles which are in high demand. The incorrect perception by Joe Public is that EVs are more expensive by far.... so they are not usually considered except by the educated.
Hyundai EV sales are massively UP in the US. 58 percent up in March for Ioniq 5, 1542% for the Ioniq 6, Kia EV sales are up 151% as well. Hyundai is kicking ass in the US. EV9 also sold very well but its new so no comparison numbers, but they sold 1,281 in March which is almost as many as the EV6.
@@reginald7214 Indeed hybrid sales are up from really low numbers. Thus the large percent increases you sight.
I'm against hybrids for a very practical reason....cost of ownership. Hybrids have all the maintenance costs of a gas engine (oil changes, radiator flushes, starter motors, belts, ya di ya da). But you are still running the wheels with an electric motor.
So you have everything an EV has plus a gas engine which burns very expensive gasoline. So you have all the same problems that might be encountered with a pure EV plus the issues you can have with an engine and you still have to stop somewhere and tank up.
@@reginald7214 Wouldn't count on it. Battery costs are halving by the end of this year. Sometime in 2025 almost all EVs will be cheaper to buy up front than most gas cars of all types. If that happens I doubt we will see further growth in hybrids.
@@mitsu.hadeishi Yep Hyundai also just came out and said their worldwide EV sales are down .... pretty much where they compete with BYD on price. However they recommitted to going full force into EVs. Hyundai knows that soon EVs will be cheaper to make than ICE cars and consumer sentiment will turn towards EVs in a big way. Hyundai management are smart cookies.
@@nickmcconnell1291 Yes, that's the key point. BYD competition is fierce. But their US sales are strong and Kia has announced the EV3, EV2, and EV4 are coming to the US market with the EV3 coming mid-2024. They're moving aggressively to compete at every level of the market.
Can't compete...price.

You are sounding very pro EV , very sad good bye
Sam was RIGHT! There is NO CYBERTRUCK DEMAND PROBLEM! Haters BEGONE!!!
until EVs go 1000 miles they wont work for a lot of us in the US. I put 600 miles in on a road trip around my state, that with the fact there's thousands of feet in elevation change and the temps can get down to freezing during half the year in a lot of places, meaning my favorite route would be like half the advertised range. It takes me a full day to do the route too, so adding charging stops means I couldn't do the loop I love to do in 1 day. I stop to stretch at road side stops in the mountains, no chargers where there are no houses, at this time. Either we need to put chargers on protected lands(gross) or im hybrid only until solid state is available, if that's never... well
Who the hell drives 600 miles in a single day for pleasure? If you do, what a rare and unusual use case yours is.
@@Tom-dt4ic Zion NP is 280 miles from my apartment, there a beautiful route from north of Phoenix to there that is in my opinion the most scenic drive a human can make on the planet right now. HWY 89 if you were curious. But I also grew up in Texas where a day trip 3.5 hours away to Houston/Austin was a normal occurrence.
I have traveled 560 miles in an EV with elevation changes in one day. I have traveled in -20F as well. My car has no where near 1000 mile range. What's your issue?
@@TyrannicG I have gone 400 miles easily in a day with my RWD Tesla model 3. Not an issue. It may be about an hour to an hour and a half slower but you get there.
@@TyrannicG Agreed, I was out there last year and visited both Zion and Antalope Canyon. And spent plenty of time on Rt. 89, and it was indeed spectacular. But I sure didn't do the trip in one day. More like three or four as I recall with plenty of stops in between for hiking and picture taking. For you, I see there's a Tesla supercharger in Page, AZ, and several in Flagstaff. And one in St. George, UT. And I'm sure there are lots of other chargers from other companies also along the route. And hell, if you stayed a night, there are loads of destination chargers at hotels in Zion. Or just do what I do, put the Tesla in camping mode and sleep in the damn thing. Who needs a hotel.
Because no one wants them. What happened to record sale. And your wrong. They have just re opened its engine plant and is rushing development of hybrid engines.
An EV dam is forming between China and the rest of the world outside Asia. China is building an efficient EV juggernaut walled off from US and EU markets. The US has Tesla and a few small EV startups like Rivian that face enormous hostility from within the US itself against EVs in general to fight against. It doesn’t help the US’ future business success when a large percentage of Americans swallow the oil industry and car dealer crap about EVs. China has no such obstacles and is proceeding 1000% towards full electrification and national security away from oil. Guess which country is headed towards future world dominance when massive investment is going towards battery and EV technology? Here’s a clue- it isn’t the US. When the dam breaks, and it will eventually, China will be prepared to flood the world with quality efficient EVs at cheap prices and Americans who formerly said they would never buy an EV suddenly turn and buy a $20k Chinese EV no problem as Ford and GM seek yet another bailout.
Love it 🥰
Tesla just announced staff cuts because they can’t sell enough ev.
Hyundai commuting shows they are in this for real. I don’t care if there’s less demand. They should manufacture evs and put them to market.
That way prices should steady over time. Market needs to crash so EVs will become affordable. Say $10-$15k.
Losses should be ok in the short term. EV are the future, they will make sense in another two to three decades.
Go Tesla and Hyundai.
Legacy car makers will collapse.
It’s great that Hyundai is all in. I guarantee it will payoff in 20 to 30 years. Just carry losses for another two to three decades and it will make sense.
Love it 🥰 ❤❤❤
I think (at least in the USA) we are waiting for Hyundai to have a NACS port on their cars. Why buy one now and have CCS and then pay $250 for an adaptor which could break and slow your charging.
I think they got their pricing model wrong. Built good cars that are a bit too up market. With that said you need to check their inventories, because if they are low, that's still good news, as they wont have old stock to offload cheaply. Also the EV market is evolving rapidly, so new models will emerge faster, so not having old stock is also a bonus, as it clears the way for new models to be stored.
Tesla routinely lays off staff to keep company lean and mean. Elon clearly explained this! Cybertruck sales in 2024 will be great for new vehicle startup. Tesla is on fire! Best selling and highest quality EV’s in the world…. Leaders in AI, AGI, AUTONOMOUS DRIVING, ENERGY STORAGE, HUMANOID ROBOTS, MFG TECHNIQUES, COST CONTROL,ETC ETC ETC!!! What’s NOT TO LOVE about Tesla?
The EV market has run.out of EVangelists to buy them.
Not the price causing.sales to slow just dont want them at any price.
You channel is the only one saying EV sales are rising, whe mandates & incentives disappear so will EV, trade in values will just the scrap priçe
Sam, you was wrong about this. Perhaps sometimes is better to admit than trying to hide. Maybe you should think a little bit too your current objectivity for this channel and about Tesla. We all have seen that your Tesla idealization can "sometimes" influence your views. At this point, your point and opinion was dragged really under the keel.😶🌫
120 grand AU for an Ionic 5 relatively affordable ??? You're joking.
HYUNDAI WHERE GARBAGE BACK WHEN THEY STARTED IN 2000s ,SEEMS LIKE THERE GOING BACK TO OLD WAYS
I think Hyundai/Kia have improved, but how could the crankshaft of the decade ago Theta motor have passed quality tests - unless there was no ongoing testing? That's troubling to me because the defect was easy to spot by a skilled machinist. Hundreds of thousands failed in the U.S. - many cars died in freeway traffic. That would not happen at Toyota.
If EVs are eventually recognized as long term vehicles, the new EV sales will probably drop when everybody who wants an EV, already has one.
When is the last time you bought a new toaster or a microwave? The people who just want reliable cars will keep their EV - maybe bought as affordable 2nd hand cars.
Sam sees EVs as exciting, but they will succeed with the public as an appliance that just does what it's supposed to do.
I think most EV households also have a gasoline car. They have learned how to balance the advantages of both and aren't buying a new EV - use the EV for local trips and trips when fast charging isn't a factor, keep the gasoline car for longer trips. When used in this manner, the EV battery isn't degrading and fewer new EVs are being purchased.
That's what I'd do, and I think it's becoming the pattern. Nobody wants a charging adventure when they can avoid it - and easily can avoid so called range anxiety.
I predict an EV bubble because of this cultural adaption. Towing and hauling will demand a gasoline vehicle, but 80 percent of local trips will use the EV. EV owners will save on gas, they won't need public chargers and batteries will last for many years.
Please don't delete your channel. Hate groups are really feeling juiced up today.
Actually I was rooting for Sam to shut it down. Sam. Why not just take a hiatus and let these commenters go find another influencer to trash? Tesla is streamlining their productions and costing, so this seems to be the case in the first quarter of 2024, but who knows, the sky is the limit that is the way Hyundai seems to be thinking. EV's are the future!
The best streamlining they could do is dump Musk.

How can this happens? Is simple, there isn't any freaking proper EV at least in Europe for 25k, do you know what type of gasoline car we can get for 20k ? They're too expensive and they need to sort their dealerships out with a standard, affordable battery repair and swap. That way their EVs will hold value. Currently they don't and with good reason: the battery swap soon becomes more expensive than a new car.
Hyundai has to use LFP batteries...and one with Sodium-Ion when v2 comes out.
the answer is obvious..... their EVs are mediocre, overpriced and fugly
Have you driven one? There's nothing mediocore about a good EV.
Great move Hyundai
All EV sales have plummeted worldwide in 2024, including your love-life Tesla
That simply isn’t true. EV sales are not rising as fast but they are still rising. Do your homework.
The batteries in the current EV cars are inferior to the ones that are coming or are just being introduced so I think that is a possible reason why many people delayed buying an electric vehicle and there is also the chance that the oil companies have been able to use their political connections to stifle the adoption of EVs
One word "Cost".
Interest rates are up and EVs are just too expensive at the moment. These EVs need to be around $30-35K.
I'm guessing Hyundai is not in the horrible financial debt that US OEMs are in. US OEMs literally cannot afford the cash flow losses they can incur with the shift to EVs. Ergo they are already dead men walking.
They won't make it without going bankrupt barring some new tech that everyone wants and only they have. They're done.
Drugs are bad mkay.
@@reginald7214 That's nice. I still think buying a hybrid is not the best choice. That other folks are buying more of them doesn't sway me in the least. Lots of people voted for Biden too...
hyundai EVs drop 35 percent and nobody cares, teslas EV sales drop 1 percent and everyone acts like the world is ending.
Hyundai's EV sales are a fraction of the vast majority of its car sales. Tesla makes ALL EVs. Plus, Hyundai's market valuation is not as high as Tesla's, which is too high for a car maker that is starting to struggle.
@@reginald7214 However battery prices are dropping every year while the engine's price is stuck where it is. Hybrid prices are only lower than EV prices because the battery is up to 5 times smaller. This advantage will go away rapidly as automakers maintain two systems for everything. It is arguable that the crossover has already happened in the high end feature set cars and will happen in simpler cars before 2027. It is also arguable that if you look at just maintenance costs over time, EVs have been cheaper for a while already.

Hyundai , tesla etc good.
Hello mate
Hyundai cars look ugly imo. Niche look
Tesla's competition is coming All over them self 😂
@@reginald7214Your own comment is peddling hate.... how do you not see this...
@@reginald7214 see how you ask a different question to change the topic? You're pumping out as much hate as anyone.
@@reginald7214 another topic change.... and more hate.
@@reginald7214 You know about Tesla as much as a Trumper knows about "illegals". Just like Trumpers talking about "illegals" purely for the hate, you talk about Tesla purely for the hate with the same fervor as them.
@@reginald7214 what's that? More hate?
Hyundai is charging too much. Tesla is really smoking the competition
Hyundai and Kia make overpriced EVs. That’s the issue.
The amount of fossil dinosaurs in the comments is too damn high!
@@reginald7214 However the rest of us hate bullies. For decades people on the right who never accomplished anything in their lives decided they would rather bathe in poisonous hatred of others that work hard and lead better lives than fix their own situations. Now, unfortunately this mind virus has invaded the left arguably even worse than it was on the right. It is simply disgusting.
