    Thanks for a great review. The 24-105/120 is quicly replacing the 24-70 as the ‘standardzoom’ for many pros too. The extension to 105 is very useful for many. Combine this with 1 or 2 fast primes and you have a very versatile and compact set.
    I’ve used this lens paired with an S1 for a low-light shoot in London about a year ago. My camerabag was in transit and a colleague lended it to me. I was very impressed by the optical quality and the build. What was most striking though was how well the IOS and the IBIS work together. Some handheld shots were done at 0.5sec and still perfectly sharp. Normally I shoot with Nikon Z but both the S1 and this lens felt great.

      I think it is a NEW standard zoom these days.
      Yes, this lens is made for S line of Lumix cameras and the combined performance is simply outstanding.

    I agree this lens is amazing. When I got my S1 I thought f4, meh I will sell it. But now I have this lens with me all the time. the only way I could sell it is if one day they do the same in f2.8. Quality great, versatility perfect, and not too heavy .... it's a keeper that is worth any cent.

    Rented this lens along with the S1H years ago. It’s a great lens, if just a tad bulky. When I finally committed to getting an S camera I also got a sigma 24-70 2.8 because it performs MUCH better indoors and at low light. However, when trying to take the 24-70 with me for travel I was constantly bemoaning how I wish I had just a little more reach

    • @BlueHawk80

      @@m-stat9 I think the extra stop of light counterbalances the lack of OIS. You always benefit from 2.8, while you only benefit from OIS while moving.

    That is my favorite S lens, but in MFT it is the Lumix 14-140, which covers 90% of my hobby shooting. Only switching to 100 to 300 for wild life, or 7-14 for real wide stuff.

    Your test images and video deliver great examples for photographers to try to achieve.
    I am looking at this lens for use in event photo & video (like business mixers) where shooting distance can be restricted by group and crowd density or there could be lots of open space. I never really know until I am there. So I am looking at this lens to replace the Sigma 28-70 2.8 on my SL2 S primarily for video. I use a A7riii with a Tokina 85mm 1.8 for most stills.
    I purchased the Tokina lens based mostly on your review. It is exactly as you stated in your review, a bokeh monster. A sleeper as good as lenses costing much more.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only thing that could be restricting when shooting events is that minimum aperture of f4. Might be a problem indoors sometimes

    • @tscott6843
      @tscott6843 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PavSZ thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I have been expanding my use of fill flash for low light event situations to isolate small groups in a crowd with light. For that I tend stop down for more depth of field anyway.
      I learned flash for forensic work and 90% of the time using ttl. Crime scene and autopsy photography demands wide DOF and lighting across the frame.
      So using flash power is pretty new to me. I bought all the gear I need over the past year. Godox is really great and just released a Leica trigger. But that is a whole different conversation.
      The trouble is when I am asked to shoot an event there is a level of expectation by the event manager. That gives me little time to mess around. Even when I do an event free, it is usually charity and I feel the same pressure to deliver for them.
      Either way, I ordered a Tamron 70-300 f4.5-5.6 Arriving tomorrow. Not sure how this can work into my style, with such small widest apertures. But it was really inexpensive. I definitely needed a longer reach and if the telephoto works I can always get a Sony 70-200 or 35-150 (for which you did an awesome review).
      I just want to figure out what works before sinking lots of money into it. After all, photography can do things we never imagined and can’t do things we think it should.
      So for now

    the only problem of my 24-105 is that the zoom ring is so hard to turn when i want to do smooth zooms movemente while filming, I wiss there will be a Mark II (more video oriented) or a firmawere update where they will let you to have a smooth zoom like the focus ring

    this lens has pretty bad bokeh characteristics, when focusing at around 2m-10m (very common focusing distance) away it has disturbing sharp ringing in its bokeh, which indicates an obvious overcorrection of spherical aberration; when focusing near its spherical aberration overcorrection is gone and its bokeh becomes nice and smooth tho
