@@flagro770 sub par? Have you ever actually tried a damage meter in the game? With all the utility IG's can bring with aerial attacks/mount buildup, status application, IG's actually do a crap ton of damage. Sure they don't hit 1k in a single blow like great swords, but the pure uptime on attacks IG's have because of how well they're able to evade gives them huge damage over time. Especially large monsters like Kulve or Xeno where I regularly compete or just flat out kill ranged purely because I can damage while evading so well. This is where IG is underrated.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned but tried out myself with the glave: when you do a clutch claw grapple you can press circle to rake the monster repeatedly with the claw and create a weakspot like with heavier weapon! This is instead of the triangle attack to get slinger ammo.
2:46 Using the grapple to set off kinsect dust seems like a really good use of the new moves!! I'm really looking forward to trying the iceborn buffs (was hoping for a small damage increase but oh well).
From what I've been able to test on the offensive kinsect buff, you seem to get 50% more kinsect damage and the dust attack is once every 5 seconds instead of 7. The new skewer move looks to be a solid way to open up from a distance too, allowing slight changes in direction and momentum midair and once you land you can turn 180 easy enough for the finishing strike. My honest hope is to see more kinsect use beyond just essences.
If you use strength and spirit kinsect bonus glaives you get the strength buff and the kinsect stamina buff at the same time doesn't matter what food you use but monster ammo lasts longer. It also has the handy bonus of completely refilling kinsect stamina every time you feed it so done right you can have a close to 100% uptime on kinsect for entire fight which is actually a lot of damage.
Couple things about the field ammo boost for the kinsect (called "spirit boost" in the Hunter's handbook): a.) The time extension for the triple buff is pretty substantial, and it scales with Power Prolonger. Without the skill, triple up will now lasts for 2 mins and 12 secs, 6 seconds longer than power Prolonger by itself. With Power Prolonger and the spirit boost, the triple up will last a staggering 3 mins and 9 secs. b.) Because the Spirit Boost has a pretty shortish duration (around 75 secs), it's a good idea to "re-up" before it runs out. Now refreshing the buff will also replenish your kinsect's stamina.
Was excited to this as a current IG main, abd I'm always happy to see new stuff about Iceborne. I think that it's gonna be a great DLC. I'm also glad they made these buffs/changes, they're definitely nice imrovements.
I hope they add new bugs with new dust affects, could u imaging a dust cloud that acts like shrapnel, makes severing tails easier. Or even that helps with stuns like instead of being a "sharp cloud" it could be a "blunt cloud" lol, I think that would be cool

The insect glaive has been my main weapon in each gave I've played. I beat Monster Hunter World and Iceborn single-handedly using it. Its really underrated in the game for some reason.
I quit the game for a year because I was struggling with the Charge Blade, but I didn't want to use IG because Skill Up used it in his review, so I wanted to be original (lol). A year later, this last spring, I came back and finally downed Diablos on my own and I finally got super hooked on Monster Hunter, and it's all thanks to the Bug Bois and their stick.
The IG is going to be so much fun in Iceborne. Previously, we have two options of what we can do while in the air, and now we have four options. On top of a strike to keep you airborne or the mid air attack that could mount a monster, we can now grab onto the monster with the claw to get ammo (which can then be fed to the insect to power it up) or the dragoon dive as a likely more powerful finisher with the insect providing back up. We can’t get into September fast enough.
I was hoping Arekkz would have figured out this mystery: In the hunters notes it says there is a combo after the new downward thrust which allows for a "mid air combo." So far no one I talked to has figured out how to do that. It just does the regular tornado strikes or back hop.
It received a buff in the area that it really needed, if you've played insect glaive much you'll know that you don't really start attacking until after a preparation phase that must at the very least include the red buff. Otherwise, your combos are all locked, and you're weaker, it can take time to set yourself up and that's the worst part of playing glaive. Removing time needed to buff yourself removes the tedium of setting up, so it is what it needed in the right area (other than a straight damage buff if you're a speedrunner).
Wukongs long lost sister get it right lol Also the heal is pretty insane with 2 green since I got smashed by tigrex called my Kinect back and got a full heal
Fun thing I learned is that lightweight weapons also soften monsters but you have to hit the same part multiple times. Plus Slinger Thorn, Clutch Claw and a monsters head equals fun/cheap tactics of slugging the monsters head.
@@tyrellweed6097 actually if you look at the glaives tip, it actually glows green untill he buffs the kinsect at which point it turns purple when the kinsect is power buffed. Blue when stamina buffed
Additionally there is a white glow too, when u have both buffs, been racking my brain trying to figure out how I'm getting both active at the same time Edit: the white glow is for weapons that have the spirit and strength bonus, instead of say sever,blunt or speed
Possibly more important than simply powering up the insect, the slinger ammo you knock out with the grappled attack will let you slinger burst flying wyverns out of the air all through the fight. All you have to do is land that first aerial clutch claw, and all your flying Kushala and Legiana problems are a thing of the past.
Great video but you forgot to mention that the downward thrust not just causes the kinsect to attack the marked part. On the way to the part it pierces through the monster we could see it a few times in the video as well but against Banboro, if you hit its feet, it can go up to 100+ damage
Hi, I noticed that after you use that vertical trust, your insect will keep the assault, it's kinda useful as you don't have to stop and mark the target.
God DAMNIT. Like 200h into Iceborne and now just find out about the midair clutch grab. My major gripe with the CC has been how fiddly it is to use with the IG and this has been available to me teh whole time lol. Ah well better late than never I guess!
Alright, so my adventures with weapons in world has been several roller coasters all leading to flame, till I found out how much glaive had to it, I used to think of it as such a brain dead weapon for some reason, but seeing it now, and using it for so long, this iceborne update just put the final nail in the coffin for being my true main.
Summary: Yo we heard you don’t like like spending 1/3 the fight gathering extract, so we will now let you gather ammo, to buff the kinsect to buff the gathering to get EVEN MORE buff timers to manage. Me: Surprised picachu face.
My only problem with the new insect glaive stuff is that it feels clunky using the slinger and clutch claw. Not only do you have to toggle, it goes back to insect aiming mode if you dodge roll or you get shaken by tremors which is really annoying. I don't know how OP it would be but they could just make slinger ammo automatically give you the buffed kinsect while you are carrying it, make L2 + x + triangle do the marking shot, leaving L2 + R2 to fire the slinger ammo and maybe L2 + Square for the clutch claw. It would screws with the standard slinger controls but you wouldn't have to deal with toggles
It's easy really, all you need to do is: Aim -> launch kinsect -> call it back -> repeat 2-3X time -> spam infinite combo -> trip teamate -> ??? -> profit
@@endgalaxy1321 to be honest nether one of those is complicated, people just don't put in the effort to practice. I was an old school hunter starting out on PS2 and PSP so there was no CB. In generations ultimate I played it for the first time. Now in world it's a lot more refined. 800+ HS it's in my top 5 of weapons. ^^ with the most hunts completed. It's just so much fun. I first struggled with the order aswell, a lot of practice with guardpoints on diablos really helped.
As a dedicated insect Glaive user it is so wonderful to see how much we are getting buffed come Iceborne. I have beaten every monster including AT so far with only my glaive and it looks like the iceborne monsters are about to get the same business
I actually came back to this because something strange happened when I was fighting Kushala Daora. I couldn't clip it so I'll put down the conditions that it happened. Quick note though, I had no idea you could power up your kinsect and I beat Iceborne and grinding out the guiding lands without knowing this. Anyways Back to the event When I was fighting Daora, I had Cruelty+, Slinger Thorn equipped with Rocksteady Mantle as well and I noticed that randomly, whenever I hit Daora's head, I dealt extra Spread and KO damage to it. I'll try to repeat it again when Daora pops up in The Guiding Lands, though I wanted to know if there was a Slinger Ammo mechanic I'm not aware of or if I just encountered a bug.

The Insect Glaive got some really nice buff with these new mechanics, it's even more fun than before ... but goddamn .. the Hunting Horn on the other hand has become quite the beastly weapon and it recevied and even bigger buff than IG ... hope you cover it next.

I call the downward thrust, the Dragoon Dive since it reminds me of the dragoon dive from Final Fantasy.
Pretty sure it was intentional, imo. After all, we got the Dragoon equipment.

Mad respect Arekkz. I am a cb and ig user. So surprise that I can now take two buffs. (pressing L2, triangle + circle).

Do not forget though, the raw dmg insect glaive increases the heal you recieve
My starter weapon is the beetle on the pole and has been my most used and favourite weapon ever since
I've bearly even touched the IG, but I had so much fun using it for that short amount of time, but I am bad with the Kinsect part of the weapon.

The downward spike attack reminds me of the it blow hunter art from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

I finally picked up the Insect Glaive for the first time at HR 300 and MR 200 and it basically went exactly like this:

Wow. 500 hours of insect glaive and I didn`t know that I could buff my kinsect this way. Makes me feel kinda dumb :D
Just picked up the Insect Glaive with Iceborne. If I'm solo what's the best move to wake a sleeping monster? I've been using the dive thrust into some barrels so far
I just wanna say World was my first MH experience and at first I wasn't into it, didnt get it and almost gave up. Then I came across your channel and a year later in still hunting and can play with all 14 weapons. You and your content are amazing so thank you for all the work you put into these videos 👍

Question-
if I start a new game in World and have Iceborne installed will the new moves be available from the very beginning of the game, or do I have to wait to get to the Iceborne expansion to use them?

How do you switch between Kinsect Aiming and Slinger Aiming with the weapon drawn? I haven't had a chance to play the Beta and that is my biggest question about the IG changes.
Was the decending thrust a new move? I'm pretty sure I've been doing it since new world, before ice borne

Dude I got all the way to Fatalis not knowing any of this... Wtf... All I knew was the plunge and the R3 Clutch Claw switch this whole time... Fatalis ain't dead yet so...
The Insect Glaive got some really nice buff with these new mechanics, it's even more fun than before ... but goddamn .. the Hunting Horn on the other hand has become quite the beastly weapon and it recevied and even bigger buff than IG ... hope you cover it next.
