@Space Kid Entertainment both have significant ups and down. Extender is easier to dodge with, however it can often just leave you out of reach to perform a followup attack. Evade window is harder to utilise because it's relying on timing rather than distance but if you dodge successfully you can followup with at least one strong attack
Still not enough distance fast enough to get you out of the danger zone. Those moves just puts your face perfectly in line with about 90% of all tail swipes. We're not dealing with Paolumu tail sweeps anymore; Those new moves aren't enough to save you from getting carted by a tempered P.Rath bitchslap, forget about Glav.
As long as you are amped, you can also clutch claw mount, then triangle + circle to zero discharge. It's way better than trying to run up and land the usual initiating jab; you can just zip right up!

This reminded me theres a slinger burst action but I also wanted to say that you can also Zero Sum on the monster any time you're amped by clutch clawing and then pressing Triangle+Circle so it's really good for aiming for monster parts. Plus it's faster than stabbing into the monster.
@@Artameful it makes the swaxe more like it was in previous MH games. The overhead slash is the hardest hitting move in the normal attack chain with the axe mode. Being able to throw it out more quickly makes the idea of using the axe mode to stay mobile make more sense. Imagine using forward slash to get into attack distance, then throw an overhead, then gtfo with fadeslash. Thats a little more than 200 damage in 3 relatively quick hits. Also it would be great for checking the monster for a flinch when the axe is in boosted mode.
That overhead slam attack is actually perfect. I actually used Axe Mode a fair bit already for moving around and staggering enemies, Morph Sweep is great against low targets and groups but now we finally have a move that can smack tall monsters in the face. Just give ZSD full super armor and Switch Axe will be perfect.
I'm just really happy they made the axe mode even more viable, I love the swaxe but I have always felt that axe more was a little lacking but now I can die in peace.

Sword and Shield main here sick of jumping up and down and I really need to bust a load while being speedy fast. Thankfully switch axe is here to help.
Another thing is if you have your discharge ready you can simply claw mount the monster press triangle circle together, do the discharge and then claw mount again and do another one, repeatedly until it runs out.

Switch Axe looks great. I got into it in MH Tri, but my love for Lance, Great Sword and later in World Sword and Shield and Bowguns made me a bit distant toward Switch Axe. Now, with these new Axe options and the evade possibilities, both with the fade slash and the slinger burst, it seems it gained the complexity I love (not to misunderstand with Charge Blade complexity, where the rotation is complicated but fighting isn't)
I main the switch axe and charge blade a I'm loving the new moves. The charge blade has a methodical feel to it and the switch axe is pretty much back and slash with great mobility on the axe
Longsword actually feels different in the beta. Maybe it's just me but all moves feel a bit slower and Foresight needs much tighter timing. Same with the new Iai slash. Maybe they finally changed it to be challenging?
the window for a foresight slash is way to long now. I have no idea why they extend it. Before it was pretty satisfying to counter an attack. Now you literally can spam this bad boy and it triggers almost everytime. Assuming you have a bit more reflex skills then a potato.

Switch Axe all day! I used SnS for the longest time, then I tried out the Switch Axe and wondered why I didn't use it from the beginning. The damage output is ridiculous, even more so now with the Iceborne additions.
These new moves just might get me to try Switch Axe again. Never really liked it to begin with because it felt unwieldy, but it looks like the new moves remedy that.
Once Iceborne releases you should either redo all of your Weapon Guides for new Players or atleast make it so new players looking for weapon guides also get to see your Iceborne guide.
You missed a key point. When you grapple on the monster and create the weak point it automatically charges your switch axe to full when you perform that attack.
It doesn't automatically go into discharge when you claw, your spamming triangle+circle, discharge is spam triangle alone so when you spam both your triggering the zero sum discharge

Capcom must reach out to arreks and specifically ask him to explain mechanics in the game because if I didn’t research it myself I would have continued playing the way I always have. Every bit of info in this game is so fucking vague or not existent In actual game itself
I am curious, does the amount of button presses when doing that Element Discharge make any difference of the last hit and should I try to kill my button... or is it unimportant how fast the button is pressed?
Simple, use both to utilize all the power the switchaxe gives :B flinch it up knock it down and filet the fuck out the monster, while cutting off tails and exploding on faces YEET
Now you can finally use it as it was meant to...switch between them accordingly. Use axe mode for mobility (when monster is running wild) and axe when it is crowd controlled (basically stationary). Of course you can also use morph attacks whenever you feel it would be better to use the other mode or just to reposition/outspace.
Question: is the amped discharge mount flinch free now? (Before. If you’re on the head but they tailwhip. You’re thrown off. But in the trailer, it didn’t look like the hunter was knocked off.)
Wait can I use all this from the moment i get Iceborn? Im still at the beginning of Highrank and wanted to wait with the purchase till i reach theoretical MR. But that could change everything.

Seems like Anjanath and Rathalos are there, but they already have their Master rank move sets too and this makes it very fun and worth it, the great jagras is a weaker arch tempered great jagras and uses it's move set too
EDIT: I WAS WRONG. My dumb ass was trying to ZSD the dummy cart in the training area thinking it would simulate a real monster. Removed: Zero Sum Discharge from standing You cannot latch onto the monster with Triangle + Circle while in the Amped state.
Are you sure? Because I saw a video of someone playing tigrex and they latched on to the monster in the amped state without the clutch claw. Or I could be tripping.
I just wish they gave axe mode its old combo routes back, with the exception of the easier wild swing from a neutral O. Getting to the overhead slash is too slow, you either need to use 2 really bad moves, the shoveling into side slash into overhead, or wild swing into overhead, which is also too slow and a bit clunky because of how wild swing works. In the older games you could use overhead slash from a neutral Triangle or after a shoveling Wich was pretty good for closing the distance and getting a good damage hit. Also the morph attack after wild swings, just give me the ability to not morph into sword after that, like in the old games, you just needed to press R a second time if you wanted to morph. That move is really good in mhw but the fact that it forces you into sword is really bad especially if you don't have charge, which will force you into a reload animation. The new moves are great, I love the new overhead swing from wild swings and the fade slash (I don't care about the sword stuff, seems too slow and sword is already great in world, it's axe that's really lacking). These changes would give the SA a lot more control over the usability of the axe and would honestly make me go back to maining it, like I've been doing since it was introduced, all the way to Generations. *cough*Alongside some buffs to evasion, please? It's really bad in world, 5 levels is a bit too much*cough*
They actually did change some of the combo paths for axe mode that accommodate the overhead slash more. Default triangle is now just the overhead instead of the side slash, and assuming you were referring to the forward thrust when you called it "shoveling", the shoveling also combos into the overhead instead of side slash.
So I notice that Forward Slash goes directly into Overhead Slash if you hit triangle again... is this a new addition, or did I just somehow fail to notice that combo before?
Should also be noted that Wild Swing actually gets stronger when your hunter glows red as well.

you can do a fade slash when you in sword mode then switchback to axemode while press down.

Wild Swing--> Slinger Burst-->Fade Slash
Yeah, you can also go directly into the morph swing after the Slinger Burst, too.
Add a fade morph to the beginning of that and you can go from the training pole to past the barrel in around 4 seconds XD

You forgot to mention that after the forward thrust with axe (Forward + Circle) pressing triangle performs the overhead slash instead of Side Slash.

The fade slash is actually just circle and back and it's on the base game without iceborne too.
I was expecting something like the gunlance for the switch axe, where you could charge the sling ammo in the Sword to burst the ammo in the discharge.
The Slinger Burst Evade and Fade Slash give the Swaxe so much mobility, I love it :D

SwitchAxe was my favourite in MHP3rd. in World alone, I mained Hammer and GS. Now I'm back to SW in Iceborne and I can't get enough of it :)

The New SnS perfect Rush combo requires such good timing but is soooo satisfying to pull off.
