I got so spoiled by my "max level speed kinsect" in World that playing with the starter kinsect is almost unbearably slow. Can't wait to get my "little" insect buddy all evolved and speedy upon full release.
@@StillMaj Eh, if a slower kinsect works for you, awesome. I prefer the speedy one because I tend to use a harrying / hit and run playstyle, and for that, a speedy kinsect lets me get my buffs quickly at range, then start harrying.
@@TheVoiceintheWater ahh gotcha. I have an aggressive close-up playstyle. Slow kinsect adds variety for combos. Fast kinsect definitely makes sense if you play that way
Just you? This is a usual controller problem in the vast majority of games after all. Using the buttons on the RHS while also aiming and moving with the analogue sticks at the same time.
Yeah we’re seeing the clips and memes online, but our game is running smoothly. I personally have frame gen off too, wonder whats causes it for people, old GPU?
I’m running it on a 3070 and a Ryzen 5 5600X and have no problems at between 50-60 fps on medium using a 1440p ultrawide monitor. Considering the game isn’t fully optimized on PC yet I’d say that’s pretty solid
@ true, I played the beta on PS5 too and it definitely runs a bit better, though they probably did more initial optimizing on PS5 since there aren’t hardware combinations to consider
My only issue with the weapon is the revamped button mapping. If it was more streamlined somehow and didn’t have my fingers in a web it would be so perfect
Seriously, I recommend you switch Focus Mode to a toggle for Glaive. Besides moving a little slower on the ground, there is zero downsides to having Focus up for the most part and it completely eliminates the need to claw your hand for anything other than midair vault kinsect gathering.
I will say I am going to miss roll playing as a helicopter, but the new additions to the Glaive are extremely fun and make up for that one loss. Though charging that power attack with the circle or B button feels a bit awkward.
I feel like doing almost anything is weird on the glaive this time. I like to mark monsters but instead of pressing both triggers, I now have to press the right trigger and bumper. Not to mention adjusting camera with focus mode while walking and charging the attack with b... I'd rather have the PSP claw position back instead of whatever this is supposed to be lol. They just added too many combos to layout comfortably on a controller.
Nah this is cope. The IG went from an aerial mobile wukong staff back to its jumping pole with a bug mechanic thats kinda clunky. Now the buttons are clunky too. Switched the aerial moves on the button layout and you have to hold a button and commit to an attack before hand where other weapons can use focus mode to rotate attacks that would miss with commitment back in older games. Whoever designed the IG imo just had different goals to weapon combo building. And they missed out on aerial counters or aerial I-frame dodges that could have been the bounce. It's workable but essentially the evasion playstyle is different but the up time in damage seems better in wild for IG but that doesnt say much because the same can be said for every other weapon. Also, having to hold two buttons as an IG mains feels bad
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Negative was the kinsect was hyper slow, but that was more a gear thing. The twirly mounty finisher feels like it will get old, fast. Hopefully there will be something like switch moves in the future. There is a lot I miss from my IG build in Rise, and not just the bounce.
Wanted to drop by and thank you for making this, getting it out in time to get some use out of it, and for doing it right. Organizing it as a straight list of individual actions you can perform is vastly more useful to someone like me with a big picture thought pattern. I've spent most of my beta time on Glaive exploring what it can do, but I'm not a machine, and I can't test every button combination or know how every action is programmed to work. Just a few bits of info here and there in this video made a big difference in the smoothness of using the next glaive. I definitely prefer it over some video yelling 'durr, you have to play it liek this!' XD
I love this weapon from what I've played, but aeiral combat while still present feels more conditional, and there's not enough ground combos compared to other weapons. Personally, I think they should have kept the air combo.
As an IG main, I feel like they REALLY messed up my baby. The problem is that there seems to be no reason to do anything but "Get all extracts > huge finisher that uses all extracts > repeat". The ground combos are just much worse and they just kept the forward thrust slow instead of giving it the quick double hit animation it always got when you have red extract for some reason. Making quick jabs at the monster feel terribly sluggish for someone who is very much used to this weapon. And then they also destroyed any reason to ever just go with less than triple buff. Sometimes in world and rise, just red buff would be all I need and I would rather take better damage openings in the moment and get the other buffs later. Or in Rise, with aerial playstyle, if getting to the head would waste too much of a monsters damage opening, just going for DPS on the backside is fine kinsect slash aerial doesn't depend on red extract as much. So, what did they do in wilds? They made it so you need triple buff to get the new combos. So, ground combos only work with triple buff, aerial DPS is gone and you wanna use your triple buff on your finisher whenever you can. This means you will never actually do normal combos because if you do, that means you have triple buff, which means you could do your finisher instead and collect new extracts. See the problem? I will have to main a new weapon as IG felt completely one dimensional in the beta. Not to mention to claw grip you gotta use to effectively use the kinsect charge up feature to shoot it through the monster for collecting extracts. That's just uncomfortable. But for that one, sure, you could just rebind your controls a bit. The other problems are still there though. This weapons seemingly optimal playstyle is the most one dimensional I've ever seen. Legit more one dimensional than world HBG gameplay with the special scope and spread ammo barely seeing anything. So the flashy new moves didn't fix anything. They actually are a big issue for the fun of this weapon. The damage feels AMAZING actually, but that won't make me have fun if all I do is spamm a SINGLE MOVE and refreshing extracts OVER AND OVER. And sure, the combo of dragoon diving the monster into the big tornado and then hitting a wound from aerial to shoot your kinsect and refresh all extracts instantly is VERY COOL AND SATISFYING. But then you do that 50 times in a single fight and it gets boting REALLY quickly. This seems like something old school GS mains might enjoy. Like, literally just using a single big damage move and nothing else lmao. At least GS requires proper positioning and prediction to be optimal. This is just too easy to do to suffer such monotony while doing it. TLDR: They made IG too one dimensional. Optimal play doesn't have any interesting combos, it just has a single combo. I will have to look for a new main q.q Also, I hope they tweak the numbers before release so that this one dimensional combo is actually not optimal(but then noone would ever use it, making it obsolete, yeah, no idea how to fix this mess tbh).
Old as hell comment but I just wanna say, I don't think making the big flashy move do less damage would make it useless/obsolete. With a move like that, I think leaning into the SECONDARY function of it might just fix the spam problem. Instead of using it for damage, it would instead be a way to salvage some of your extract before the buff timer runs out. So you would build up your buffs, do all your damage like usual and just as your buffs are about to run out you do the flashy spin move. That way if your lucky you get to "waste" a bit less time gathering extract and if you're REALLY lucky or have good positioning, you get rewarded with full buffs to continue dealing damage like usual. Not a perfect fix, but it's better than nothing I think.
3:26 anyone else feel awkward using the charged kinsect harvest? how do you hold triangle and aim with the right analog? i sometimes use my left hand to reach the right analog so i lose access on the left analog control for a while lol
Same here, i think you just pre-aim it first then use charged harvest later. The vault into the air then combo into strong descending thrust-> spiral slash is more frustrating IMO, i legit can't aim where i land because right thumb busy holding button and you have to hold it ASAP or you won't even able to do that move at all. At the end i just switch my left thumb to right joystick to adjust camera mid air.
Honestly, it’s my biggest gripe. And not for the reasons you think- it’s LS. Let’s compare; A weapon with 3 buffs, where a charged attack can help you get there faster, and where acquiring all grants you an improved move set and a ‘finisher’ attack with verticality that includes several circular slashes, and consumes your charge. Which one am I talking about? Well, one only consumes 1/3 charges, can be cancelled, and has two parts to its finisher. The other can’t be cancelled, consumes all 3 charges, and leaves you with the worse move set as a follow-up option….
you press two buttons and the move just happens. It is hardly aerial combat by any means. IG is another weapon now. Its just gather extracts, do the charged up attack, followed up by pressing L2 and circle, rinse and repeat. This is just ass.
As IG veteran, I felt a bit upset that helicoptering gone, but the new insect spiral spin is damn beautiful enough to keep me playing ❤️ By the way, this is probably best IG guide on the market right now.
I think the changes are fine, but they could add something as simple as being able to act again in the air after the focus hit. It would fit the wound/spiral combo playstyle and get the gameplay a bit more aerial without getting overboard. Plus, you it looks wierd falling after this attack, the animation is anticlimactic, you're just sitting in the air
I agree, i think it would be nice if the foucs hit would act as a bounce essentially, but on this bounce, you cant use focus hit, i think that would make it feel a lot better, cuz then you could use the arial attack and then descending thrust
Great video, thank you. After playing the beta, Insect Glaive quickly became my second favorite weapon (after my multi-generation love Greatsword). I've played every incarnation of Insect Glaive since its introduction to the series, and this is easily the form I've found most enjoyable mechanically. Gathering extracts feels less like a prerequisite chore and more an involved part of your gameplan, your basic strikes have more mobility, the charge attack and followup make your choices around openings more dynamic, and the focus strike is possibly one of the best in the game from what we've seen so far, combining excellent damage, speed, mobility/safety, AND rapid extract collection. I'm very excited to see what new kinsects and skills will do for it.
The only problem I have this this while playing is that having to actively hold circle while you are trying to look or position in the air, and fight as well is kind of straining and or difficult. If anyone has found a better was to handle this I'd love to know since this is my favorite weapon I'd like to not be struggling physically while using it.
BANGER video!! i thought i was loving playing the new bug stick a lot already, turns out there's still more i can do with it! thank you for the video!!
yea the kinsect only makes those dust clouds when its attacking a mark, but your power descending thrust (aerial charged circle attack) marks the monster like the world version, so you can work getting a kinsect mark into your combos so you'll always have dust clouds to pop :]
play around those 2 system, recalling manually also recover a good chunk of kinsect stamina, which help with the management. in Wild, kinsect will immediately go for attack on the mark at the start so you can use it for a quick dust like with healing dust for example. it also good at collecting extract in some scenario.
@@h7cdr yes it does, the kinsect will definitely not get back quick enough to charge up and do Descending thrust but hopefully you can fit in an aerial attack and do it.
I am personally bit bummed about the loss of the bounce and aerial combat, and I'm especially going to miss Diving Wyvern from Rise which was perfect move for my tastes, but after actually seeing the weapon in use it does seem like you still have fair amount of time in the air, it's just more combo and rotation focused now, so I might be convinced. The rising spiral slash isn't my ideal move and the focused descending thrust seemed bit weak, but overall it looks.. alright, not as doom and gloom about it as I used to be since it's one of the two weapons I've mained. Other being CB which lost neutral SAED and seemed to go full pizzamode which I was never fan of.
Knowing Capcom from previous MH games, extra moves will probably be acquired later in the game. IG without Diving Wyvern feels like it's missing its legs.
@@dustinbiester4401 I wish that was true but World didn't have any unlockable moves and there hasn't been a single mention of such for Wilds. And Diving Wyvern was sort of meant as the finisher for aerial style which they killed entirely. Such a shame, loved landing Diving Wyvern on enemy head.
@@cardnal44 just mix it with Sunbreak flying dual blades and make it an entire weapon. Seems like there is a crowd who does not like Insect Glaive but use it anyway because of aerial combat to justify making an entire weapon out of it
@nayd5043 I like the mix of elements. It feels weird to make a weapon that controls airspace and management, then change the aerial style of the weapon literally every game. In rise, Insect glaive had its greatest air control and damage ever, then we get wilds where it's in its kind of in the middle, but closer towards the older games. At that point if you're going to revert the aerial capabilities of a weapon known for its aerial combat, why would you add a whole new weapon for the exact same thing with less effort?
The first time I try this weapon, I got jaw drop how easily this weapon can dish out dmg. Just get RED and keep hitting with focus, open wounds, get 3 colours, finisher. I have hard time timing the finisher though. Edit: Charge [B] instead of tap, no wonder I keep missing that. Didn't know I can charge before this video.
So they got rid of the bounce AND now we need all three essences to use the actual moveset of the weapon? Also the "finisher" uses an awkward button hold and release (that limits the combos you can do) instead of just triangle+circle. Cool cool that's fine...... Also why did they swap the buttons for aerial attacks? Thought I was going crazy playing the beta.
Lets be real - more than half of the monsters in both rise and world barely have any attacks to kill a guy flying all the time. Devs probably thought that is a problem and it needs too much work (giving each monster antiair attacks)
Didn't really matter, in those games even if you were above a monster with IG you'd get hit by an attack that by all rights shouldn't hit you. Many times I'd get hit by a shoulder check attack when I was above the monster and immediately knocked out of the air.
@@F3N01 I mean you just described the problem. If every monster needs to have deceiving large vertical hitboxes in order to hit you, that's not really a good thing. It's unintuitive and frustrating to go over an attack and have it hit anyways. So the options to fix it are to give every monster specific antiair attacks, leave the hitboxes, or nerf the airtime so it's less consistent. I think it makes sense to just change the weapon to significantly reduce the problem
@@F3N01 this rarely is a thing back in World Iceborne, you essentially take over the fight once you used to it both ground and aerial movement and literally bullying almost entire monster roster, while still having more uptime and damage than a lot of other weapons. It may not be the best at speedrunning but it is highly adaptive and it doesn't require monster to cooperate with you.
I hope they change the chargeable move into something that auto charges, IG right now feels like I'm defusing a bomb while talking to a socially awkward dude I met 7 years ago, this weapon just feels so stressful and awkward, in a new MH game where every single weapon is now more fluid to play, they somehow made insect glaive worse than every single iteration of it combined.
Absolutely, certain moves should start the charge, then pressing O uses the move, which would make it a system where you're encouraged to be smart in how you time the move. MH has its share of unintuitive combos (I struggled with perfect rush for a bit), but this is crazy clunky to pull off while every other weapon is getting even more streamlined.
It's fine honestly, just change focus mode to toggle and that will heavily lower the inputs required, if you play bow and you're used to holding the button while dodging it feels the same.
@@nayd5043 sorry but I don't think that'll go great against my 7 years worth of muscle memory, I have never played an MH game with a toggle on it, I can't even play FPS games with a toggleable aim, it's always hold or nothing, the focus mode being toggled also has nothing to do with my spaghettified right fingers since I still have to hold O while vaulting with R2+X and then somehow press X again while realigning myself to get a neatly positioned triangle button helicopter attack that will finally combo into the descending thrust, all of that while having to anticipate what the monster is doing, oh my god that sounds fun /s
ya, saw an article while at work how they "nerfed insect glaive to the ground by removing its "best damage move" and im just like...1) im pretty sure the "stay permenantly in the air" didnt ACTUALLY do an insane amount of damage. and 2) have you SEEN the new crazy movie it got? but ya, once I figure out how to do this stuff more fluidly. I feel 6th gen im gonna regress to my 4th gen self and main CB and IG
It was improving between World and Rise. The Dive Attack stacked in Damage x3 from staying in the air. They were working it further into the aerial gameplay.
Insect glaive is great now, feels buttery smooth to play and is super fun, and all that is contingent on me playing it on keyboard and mouse. Holding down right click is extraordinarily easy, and controller bindings (i did try them) are awkward as all hell. Here are a few suggestions to fix that: 1. Switch on toggleable focus mode. There is exactly 1 instance where you'd rather not be in focus mode (for descending thrust into tornado slash, if you're in focus mode then it goes directly into rising spiral slash when you press O) and apart from that just being in focus mode is highly recommended. 2. If you aren't rebinding then for strong descending thrust, you do aerial X, then slide thumb over to O and charge in one motion. For grounded strong descending slash, you slide over from X to O when you do the empowered X attacks, and especially during the second hit of the X combo as that's long enough for it to charge. If anyone knows tusk toss on fighter in dragon's dogma 2 then they will have a way easier time. 3. If you are actually rebinding controls then I'd just rebind X and O to shoulder buttons. This allows you to hold O while running around and vaulting and imo that is how you're meant to play IG. Id probably even bind X to a shoulder button since kinsect charged shot is really important to gameplay as well, so you'd rather move your reticle properly while charging.
This was basically what I talked about in the beta survey they need to have more videos that show all the new things the weapons can do because for the most part a lot of these moves probably we're not utilized in the beta because people just didn't know they existed. A lot of people assume that the insect lay have got nerfed but in reality it was one of the strongest weapons in the beta but only if you knew about The entire moveset and made sure to use focus mode to see when the monsters had openings that you could capitalize on and do focus strikes without wounding it.
i wish if they were going to remove the helicopter attack they added a bit more to the base weapon. they did add a good deal to it, with some cool features. but to me, the weapon kinda feels a bit bland. like you get all 3 extracts, and do the same Hold Circle/B -> Triangle/Y spam -> Release Circle/B -> Rising Spiral -> Focus Strike -> Rinse and repeat. If i could make my own changes/additions -Let you charge the 🔺️ attacks -A charged 🔺️ attack midair will get you the advanced spinning slash - pressing it will give you the regular advancing slash - only advanceing slash will give you the bouce, and only once. which allows combos into your other charge moves - white buff chabges your vault mid combo to be much less vertical and a lot more horizontal. like aerial vault. but not as far. you can midair evade or aerial attack from it - you can chaege the kinsect mid air theyre on the right track i feel, with the removal of the bounce. but if they could just better incorperate the aerial stuff into the combos and playstyle, like they did with switch axe, then i think this weapon would be perfect
I wish they gave a focus attack going downward. Like a spinning saw or something instead of the dive we got for the past 2 games. Heres to hoping we get more moves that we switch out like in rise. 😮💨🙏
Bug stick is excellent so far, my only gripe is how slow the friggin level 1 bugs are 😭 There’s that and there’s trying to get the tiny orange extract between rey daus big ol wings
I really don't agree tbh, I think they made glaive way worse than world/sun break. Compare glaive to the other weapons in wilds, and it's outclassed by everything imo. I tried dual blades and long sword and they are so much smoother and stronger
@@M.L.official I don’t think I’d say way worse, I’d say it’s just quite different. And maybe a teensy bit clunky whenever that charge attack is involved
They need to give the bounce back bro. Without it, pressing triangle in the air literally serves no purpose. There’s already the descending attack and and strong charged so there’s no point in the triangle attack UNLESS it can chain
It repositions in the air and lets you float for a pretty substantial amount of time, plus for damage you can charge the descending thrust during it to slightly reposition again and hit a weak zone
I added a lot of feedback on the survey for the kinsect. I'm hoping they reconsider the charge circle mapping. It would flow better to use circle + triangle instead of charge circle. Would also help with the aerial charge circle attack.
I found out that helicopter is still a viable move to use. After vaulting do the helicopter, then immediately start charging with right click/circle, you have enough time to fully charge during the helicopter animation, then release and you will do the descending thrust. And you can follow up into rising slash and focus strike. Pretty good combo actually.
I guess my main issue is why there needed to be a tradeoff? We could have had the new gathering and combo systems and leave the helicopter in just for the people who liked it. It was never about dps. Grounded IG was always better for that. Flying around was just enjoyable to do. Anyway love the new Rising Spiral Slash. It is pretty cool and flashy. I also enjoy the new kinsect changes. The normal attack animations look kind of sluggish compared to the old red essence fast slashes. New controls also need some getting used to. Not personally a fan of having to hold L2, R2 and Circle while also mixing in Triangle, X and R1. It just feels a bit much. If you love the new IG then that's great. I'm not going to give up on it just yet but I just feel a little sad that it no longer meshes with the playstyle I used to enjoy.
The aerial attacks are meant to be used opportunistically, not as your bread and butter damage-dealers. While you CAN jump with Insect Glaive, it doesn’t mean you HAVE to all the time. The aerial attacks were simply ways to transition into your ground combos fluidly as well as getting fast mounts. While there were strong moves you could do in the air across the games, your strongest options were still grounded. Aerial Glaive was always a silly gimmick used by people who fundamentally misunderstood the weapon’s flow.
@ If they’re meant to flow into something, why reduce the number of channels for that to happen with? Why switch which input is dive, and which is dash swing? Why require thrice the amount of buffs to use your move set, and give an aerial attack that removes all 3?
The worst thing about the IG in Wilds is the fact that the changes that capcom made to IG is basically making me relearn the IG. I'm not talking about losing the helicopter, because i knew beyond the fantasy of jumping around IG has more strengths than bouncing around in the air, I'm talking about how the combos route and the general flow of the weapon feels so much more alien then basically any other weapon. Once i figured out what the flow of the weapon was with charging B to extend and enhance combos, i really like it. Both air and ground feel a lot more engaging and satisfying to pull off. Its a much more complex weapon to play well now and i am always a fan of rewarding good gameplay and Wilds IG so far feels like it has SO much potential. What i don't like is that none of the experience/muscle memory translates to or from older games to Wilds. Its feels like im playing a hammer mixed with a longsword with the way i need to charge my weapon while also building gauge, which i have mixed opinions about. Also the move set without charging the weapon feels pretty bad honestly, both buffed and unbuffed feel extremly sluggish. I hope theres something that can be done with that. But I'm really looking forward to playing IG in wilds, especially with a better kinsect because holy SHIT is the beta kinsect slow as FUCK.
Dude ik , let me state firstly that i come from worlds this year so thats where im coming from , and to me the new ig in wilds was def quite a bit of a dissapointment but still idk if its also because im still unfamiliar with this new moveset . - the new charge combo , it practically makes the old combo that u get from getting all the extracts obsolete because i my experience the damage pales in comparison with the charged combo so why would you do that except as a backup combo. - the aerial playstyle , the aerial playstyle for me is just such an integral part of the charm for Ig , that was the main reason i played Ig and one of the reasons as to why i actually got into MH lol so taking that away feels like such an ass move for me , and if people wanna make the point that gliding and flying away makes it so much easier to Dodge attacks well i almost never (leaving room for doubt) Dodge attacks by flying away , its always just for manuevering through them or the map whilst dealing some damage . - idk if its just me but this iteration of Ig feels quite slow but maybe its just that i havent played early Ig for quite some time that i forgot how it may feel to have that slow ass kinsect lol. - and to go along with the charged combo , it makes the flow quite off for me . Ig always was the fast and agile weapon type for me and now with a huge incentive to constantly use the charged attack as soon as you can just makes the flow a bit weird for me , like if i wanted a weapon with a charged combo id have picked something else . - and i've Heard a person say that they like this iteration because the kinsect is more integrated into the playstyle , i can get behind that idea but just not this haha , like maybe add a combo move for the kinsect too once the extracts have been filled or add some type of buffer to them . But yea maybe ill get used to this style too if i play it more and more but ill def Miss and Will go back to worlds version if i had the option
They removed hit lag which is probably messing with our brains and making things seem slower potentially. I am curious to see the damage numbers of glaive, though. Ultimately, if you can get stuck into a combo loop of, gather all three extracts, hold circle for the new ground spin move, then focus mode button + circle for the new aerial move, then from there you can use descending thrust, then segue into gathering the extracts from wounds, and rinse and repeat, i think glaive will be fine. Also idk about controller players but I cant vault in mid air in the direction I want on mouse and keyboard. My character always dashes midair into the direction he's facing during combat, can't redirect him at all. That better be a bug
IG was already a great elemental/status weapons with its rapid hit nature. Now with its new finisher it's an even *better* element/status weapon. Get a blast IG with a blast powder Kinsect and just set off a bunch of explosions with the ult combo.
I was wondering about some of the moves like your dragoon dive, which was perhaps my bread and butter. I'll have to get used to the new moves, but glaive is looking really good now.
Does it not have the more horizontal-angled vault (similar to Aerial style vault from Generations, and Silkbind Vault from Rise)? I'm like 99% sure I've seen it in footage.
They should definitely bring back the bounce or at least allow you to act out of the focus strike mid and and chain those instead. That would make the weapon feel a lot less static and bring back some form of aerial gameplay
If you mean rising Spiral slash you can act midair if you positioned correctly and the Kinsect gathered Red during the ascend. If it did you can use descending thrust again
@ no I mean the focus strike when you press l2 and r1. Your character just awkwardly falls down if you don’t hit a weak spot. You should definitely be able to act out of that. It would incentivize people to use their new feature more
@@RicochetForcelol why though? It’s about choice and versatility. If you want to stay on the ground and optimize your damage then fine. You shouldn’t have a problem with other people playing their own way and having fun
In this beta Insect Glaive focus attack has a bugged damage, but it just visual. So funny 400+ damage numbers on that. That jumping off mount attack actually has it name I think, try climb on vine and there's a button for it. Update: apparently, it's not quite, that one from climbing is Scaling Double Slash
I like the new charge attack but they really should have found a way to put it on R2. I realize R2 is already doing a lot...maybe R2+circle to start charging but after that it will charge until you release R2 so you don't have to hold circle? I don't know. But they need to do something because actually playing this weapon is a struggle right now...
I was using an Xbox controller adapter for the PC port, so once Wilds hits I'm going to have to TRAIN a lot. Mid-tier perfomance with my favorite weapon will not be tolerated! 😂
I have no idea what design direction they went with the glaive, but I think they took steps back since the aerial playstyle was genuinely fun, and the loss of the rebound from the helicoptering was quite disappointing. It feels so much clunkier and the control layout is bothersome. I genuinely wish the aerial focus strike was the kinsect slash from sunbreak since the it feels so wrong with the little aerial time and jump height you get, making it more difficult to use the aerial attacks you have access to alongside the charging mechanic they forced on us making the button presses more annoying to play. They should have playtested this weapon more before greenlighting it, cause if this is the final product in the released game I'll be disheartened to play it with how they functionally nerfed its identity and speed of attacks, making it less satisfying overall.
What I'm seeing is that they definitely focused more on the kinsect and the weapon being able to do a little bit of everything while its main dmg output is now staying on the ground (not like it kind of wasn't one already but Rise gave more freedom). It feels a little over the place rn but I don't think any of the moves are an outright bad addition. It's hard to get used to an entire lack of a bounce since I used that to properly reposition and break parts but it doesn't seem that terrible, though I do play ground glaive with powder kinsects. I think what you're experiencing is just a lack of selectable builds from Rise which is fair considering it was a big part of that game and taking a good mechanic away is... I guess not questionable but certainly disappointing even for me.
@@RicochetForce I am very aware as I have been maining glaive since 4U. It definitely feels frustrating to always hear everyone talk about just aerials but I'm trying to be more open-minded and in general, I think that taking away switch skills regardless of aerial was a huge miss. Even I've been thrown off my groove with Wilds glaive a bit but that's also partially because of the horrendous button layout and the unexpected lag that persists no matter the settings (despite World running easy at max settings).
Idk if I'll be able to play this as is because of my joint pain and I'll miss the helicopter a lot. I do like the new kinsect return animations. They make them seem more like actual bugs and I love bugs.
Has anyon3 figured out a way to better do R2 and Triange hold for the drill kinsect collect? The layout of the buttons feels absolutely ass when ttying to hold both R2, triangle, and then aim with the analog stick Its so jank
There are a few way to do it: _Remap button _Gyro ( motion control ) _Backbuttons _Or when you actually used to it, you can pre-aim it, then just R2+hold tri don't need to aim it again.
While I love the new moves and mechanics I have one tiny complaint which is mainly the lack of a clash, offset,or pefect dodge mechanic, compared to the other weapons. Dodge slash seems like a really good candidate for an offset imo it since its meant to be like a get out of the way while dealing dmg move. But I guess this capcoms way of balancing the weapon goven it being a revamp rather than just a slight update compared to most of the weapons.
I love how people are complaining that the second bounce was taken away so they will not be in the air so much while Wilds literally made it that with enought skill and combo you will almost never touch the ground XD It's different yes, but it's absolutely better in any way. Now I just can't wait to try a kinsect that can actually flies instead of limping in the air 🤣
at first i wasn’t on board with them getting rid of the helicopter play style, but now it looks like the trade off is better imo, with more aerial attacks that actually does cool moves and damage, esp since you can chain them
Anyone else count how many times you'll have to be using L2 (LT xbox). Literally 60-70% of every fight. You're welcome from a experienced pov (Don't believe me watch the speedruns Glaives were doing lol.)
I was struggling to figure out what insect glaive actually was all about, and this covers everything. I think this looks way, way more exciting. Instead of just helicoptering around, it's all about cool combos and gathering and using extracts in what looks like a really fun and flashy way. Having more KO potential is also really, really cool. Can't wait for the full game to come out now, I'm sold.
wish your guides instead of being playstation targeted, would use primary attack, secondary attack, jump etc so that others not used to ps controls can use them easier
Idky but when i try to lock onto the monster then start doing aerial stuff, my character keeps coming towards me (the screen) instead of towards the monster. Playing on PC, any help would he appreciated.
The annoying thing with insect glaive is u need to get the red buff otherwise it won’t have the smooth animation and attacks and it decays over time. I think the collecting part is what deter people from choosing this weapon. Also slow bug movement
I got so spoiled by my "max level speed kinsect" in World that playing with the starter kinsect is almost unbearably slow. Can't wait to get my "little" insect buddy all evolved and speedy upon full release.
Slow Kinsects are kinda better / more fun in world
@@StillMaj Eh, if a slower kinsect works for you, awesome.
Fast kinsect definitely makes sense if you play that way
@@StillMaj That's the best thing about MH. Even using the same weapons, we can make so many different styles work.
Yeah same. When i picked up IG i was like: Nope, that weapon will be touched after release with a good bug.
Is it me or... Im having trouble holding mutiple buttons especially aimming kinsect with Holding Triangle, and Right Analog
Just you? This is a usual controller problem in the vast majority of games after all. Using the buttons on the RHS while also aiming and moving with the analogue sticks at the same time.
Pretty easy if you know claw grip. Learning claw grip is a completely different topic 😅
this is where having 4 back buttons come in handy
I legit was JUST looking for a guide on this. Your timing is impeccable!
Same! I'm actually looking forward to the changes to the ig in wilds
Best guide so far! Everyone needs to provide feedback to the devs about the button layout tho
The aerial bounce being gone killed it for me so sad😢😢😢
By far the most impressive thing is how well you guys have the game running 😂
Yeah we’re seeing the clips and memes online, but our game is running smoothly. I personally have frame gen off too, wonder whats causes it for people, old GPU?
I’m running it on a 3070 and a Ryzen 5 5600X and have no problems at between 50-60 fps on medium using a 1440p ultrawide monitor. Considering the game isn’t fully optimized on PC yet I’d say that’s pretty solid
I mean mine runs smoothly and I’m playing on ps5, that’s probably why lol
@@ArekkzGaming What kind of hardware are you guys running? Love the guides by the way
@ true, I played the beta on PS5 too and it definitely runs a bit better, though they probably did more initial optimizing on PS5 since there aren’t hardware combinations to consider
My only issue with the weapon is the revamped button mapping. If it was more streamlined somehow and didn’t have my fingers in a web it would be so perfect
i suspect we're gonna need a controller with paddles on the back to make it comfortable
Yeah, this just wasn't designed for controller.
Right thumb is aiming, charging the kinsect, dodging, and charging the glaive at the same time.
Seriously, I recommend you switch Focus Mode to a toggle for Glaive. Besides moving a little slower on the ground, there is zero downsides to having Focus up for the most part and it completely eliminates the need to claw your hand for anything other than midair vault kinsect gathering.
@@Kimtroverted I don't have a problem with the left trigger. It is charging with triangle and trying to aim the kinsect at the same time
The Insect Glaive designer have two right thumbs
Claw grip
Stay in focus mode 100% of the time and it starts to feel amazing.
I know right imma about to try wilds in a bit, but not looking forward to that.
No
Nah this is cope.
Yeah, the essence dump finisher is really strong, and rotating from collecting essence to spamming that skill is gonna get REALLY old, REALLY fast.
The Kinsect Slash aerial move in Rise was peak IG gameplay imo. Doing 3 of those and then finishing off with the dive move hit like a truck.
@@dustinbiester4401 Agree. Not sure why everyone is obsessed with helicopter, when Kinsect Slash was peak.
@@the_clawing_chaosBoth felt equally fun for me.
Damn I forgot what a level 1 kinsect feels like and it's brutal. 👀
I love kinsect glaive, but holding O and hitting R2+X is super annoying 😢
@@XNG1213 EXACTLY!!!!!
they need to allow button remapping, on PC it's pretty easy but on controller it sucks
I have a pro controller with triggers on the back and it still discombobulates my brain
TLDR:
They made IG too one dimensional. Optimal play doesn't have any interesting combos, it just has a single combo. I will have to look for a new main q.q
Also, I hope they tweak the numbers before release so that this one dimensional combo is actually not optimal(but then noone would ever use it, making it obsolete, yeah, no idea how to fix this mess tbh).
Honestly this is an excellent breakdown of the IG and what has changed/how it feels. Agree with a lot of what at you saying!
Claw grip.
Pro controller with triggers on the back. Expensive but there isn't a single game I've played where it doesn't make life easier
The Helicopter being gone is disappointing, but the rising Spiral Slash is a nice trade off since you can still do attacks in the air.
And it's really powerful too
Honestly, it’s my biggest gripe.
And not for the reasons you think- it’s LS.
Let’s compare;
A weapon with 3 buffs, where a charged attack can help you get there faster, and where acquiring all grants you an improved move set and a ‘finisher’ attack with verticality that includes several circular slashes, and consumes your charge.
Which one am I talking about?
Well, one only consumes 1/3 charges, can be cancelled, and has two parts to its finisher.
The other can’t be cancelled, consumes all 3 charges, and leaves you with the worse move set as a follow-up option….
@@samakiraroyjanssen6326all I see is two blatant copies of charge blade going off of this checklist
you press two buttons and the move just happens. It is hardly aerial combat by any means. IG is another weapon now. Its just gather extracts, do the charged up attack, followed up by pressing L2 and circle, rinse and repeat. This is just ass.
@ I mean it is the INSECT glaive not the aerial glaive, so mashing the silly helicopter move on a monsters back was never it’s only selling point
As IG veteran, I felt a bit upset that helicoptering gone, but the new insect spiral spin is damn beautiful enough to keep me playing ❤️
By the way, this is probably best IG guide on the market right now.
That’s what I’m saying lol the end lag after the focus strike feels so awkwardly long it’s like they forgot to allow you to act out of it
Great video, thank you.
That was my main gripe too! I swear I had to put my hand in a claw just to pull off the descending thrust.
BANGER video!! i thought i was loving playing the new bug stick a lot already, turns out there's still more i can do with it! thank you for the video!!
from what i have seen if you toggle focus mode and the kinsect attack with you the kinsect wont be leaving any dust for you to hit, kinda a bummer
Kinsect has 2 mode, once it enter powder mode, it will not assist even in focus mode.
yea the kinsect only makes those dust clouds when its attacking a mark, but your power descending thrust (aerial charged circle attack) marks the monster like the world version, so you can work getting a kinsect mark into your combos so you'll always have dust clouds to pop :]
play around those 2 system, recalling manually also recover a good chunk of kinsect stamina, which help with the management.
in Wild, kinsect will immediately go for attack on the mark at the start so you can use it for a quick dust like with healing dust for example. it also good at collecting extract in some scenario.
Hopefully with faster kinsect, Rising spiral slash the kinsect come back to you fast enough for you to charge a descending thrust or the other move
It'll be insanely nice to have the Pseudocath Lineage
I did think it would be nice to use the descending thrust after the RSS but didn't think of it being possible with a fast kinsect, that would be nice.
@@LusciniaRose Yeah I hope so, otherwise for me at least, it feel a bit anti-climatic after rising up.
Other being CB which lost neutral SAED and seemed to go full pizzamode which I was never fan of.
descending thrust is my fav move by far, and it feels so weak now. It just feels like a move you would use to get to the ground quickly
Tbh if they gave the IG one bounce from the helicopter it would be a nice compromise
This. I just want one
Add Tonfas back and make it the aerial weapon.
@@nayd5043 i would crash out if they did ngl
Ig jump was meant to be a reposition tool never damage which is why it's the lowest dps for ig
This
I hope they change the chargeable move into something that auto charges, IG right now feels like I'm defusing a bomb while talking to a socially awkward dude I met 7 years ago, this weapon just feels so stressful and awkward, in a new MH game where every single weapon is now more fluid to play, they somehow made insect glaive worse than every single iteration of it combined.
@@nayd5043 sorry but I don't think that'll go great against my 7 years worth of muscle memory, I have never played an MH game with a toggle on it, I can't even play FPS games with a toggleable aim, it's always hold or nothing, the focus mode being toggled also has nothing to do with my spaghettified right fingers since I still have to hold O while vaulting with R2+X and then somehow press X again while realigning myself to get a neatly positioned triangle button helicopter attack that will finally combo into the descending thrust, all of that while having to anticipate what the monster is doing, oh my god that sounds fun /s
that charge triangle move is so good its crazy
ya, saw an article while at work how they "nerfed insect glaive to the ground by removing its "best damage move"
and im just like...1) im pretty sure the "stay permenantly in the air" didnt ACTUALLY do an insane amount of damage. and 2) have you SEEN the new crazy movie it got?
but ya, once I figure out how to do this stuff more fluidly. I feel 6th gen im gonna regress to my 4th gen self and main
CB and IG
lmao yeah, staying in the air was never optimal. Even when it was actually competitive it was only because of the Diving Wyvern silkbind move.
It was improving between World and Rise. The Dive Attack stacked in Damage x3 from staying in the air. They were working it further into the aerial gameplay.
I miss the copter, but oh my god I love this version of the insect glaive! it's so fun and feels like it packs a lot more of a punch
Insect glaive is great now, feels buttery smooth to play and is super fun, and all that is contingent on me playing it on keyboard and mouse. Holding down right click is extraordinarily easy, and controller bindings (i did try them) are awkward as all hell. Here are a few suggestions to fix that:
Wow insect glaive looks wild..... unfortunately im a simple man...hammer smash!
This was basically what I talked about in the beta survey they need to have more videos that show all the new things the weapons can do because for the most part a lot of these moves probably we're not utilized in the beta because people just didn't know they existed. A lot of people assume that the insect lay have got nerfed but in reality it was one of the strongest weapons in the beta but only if you knew about The entire moveset and made sure to use focus mode to see when the monsters had openings that you could capitalize on and do focus strikes without wounding it.
i am more fovus on your gameplay :D
it was satisfying to pull those moves
i wish if they were going to remove the helicopter attack they added a bit more to the base weapon.
they did add a good deal to it, with some cool features. but to me, the weapon kinda feels a bit bland. like you get all 3 extracts, and do the same Hold Circle/B -> Triangle/Y spam -> Release Circle/B -> Rising Spiral -> Focus Strike -> Rinse and repeat.
If i could make my own changes/additions
-Let you charge the 🔺️ attacks
-A charged 🔺️ attack midair will get you the advanced spinning slash
- pressing it will give you the regular advancing slash
- only advanceing slash will give you the bouce, and only once. which allows combos into your other charge moves
- white buff chabges your vault mid combo to be much less vertical and a lot more horizontal. like aerial vault. but not as far. you can midair evade or aerial attack from it
- you can chaege the kinsect mid air
theyre on the right track i feel, with the removal of the bounce. but if they could just better incorperate the aerial stuff into the combos and playstyle, like they did with switch axe, then i think this weapon would be perfect
So my only question, can you show a clip of your hand when you are doing the controller input O(hold), R2 + X, X, △. Specifically on controller.
I wish they gave a focus attack going downward. Like a spinning saw or something instead of the dive we got for the past 2 games. Heres to hoping we get more moves that we switch out like in rise. 😮💨🙏
I can't keep track of all the new stuff with all these updates to the weapons 😵
Haven't watched it yet, but c'mon advancing roundslash, c'mon advancing roundslash. Such a good move from rise
9:00 focus attack is insane, 2000 damage in just 2 seconds ???
wow
Yeah that has to be some sort of mistake lol they gotta fix that
Bug stick is excellent so far, my only gripe is how slow the friggin level 1 bugs are 😭
There’s that and there’s trying to get the tiny orange extract between rey daus big ol wings
I really don't agree tbh, I think they made glaive way worse than world/sun break. Compare glaive to the other weapons in wilds, and it's outclassed by everything imo. I tried dual blades and long sword and they are so much smoother and stronger
@@M.L.officialthat is objectively untrue, the speedrun times are similar for all 3 of those weapons w glaive being in the middle.

I tried the insect glaive yesterday, probably my favourite version yet
They need to give the bounce back bro. Without it, pressing triangle in the air literally serves no purpose. There’s already the descending attack and and strong charged so there’s no point in the triangle attack UNLESS it can chain
It repositions in the air and lets you float for a pretty substantial amount of time, plus for damage you can charge the descending thrust during it to slightly reposition again and hit a weak zone
@@bassamromolino Yeah but you can reposition just as well with A/X alone imo.
You can cancel Triangle if you hold Circle and is extremely useful for reposition and comboing
triangle is good for charging up your circle attack midair
Loved the weapon while the beta - would be my main now
Excellent! This is loved
Yeah. It’s the only weapon that got a swap in move (wyvern dive), and a move removed (bounce aerial), and;
HAS. No. Unique. Tricks. In. Wild.
Thank you. I don’t like how people make it seem like it’s absurd to not be a total fan of the changes
@
If they’re meant to flow into something, why reduce the number of channels for that to happen with?
Why switch which input is dive, and which is dash swing?
Why require thrice the amount of buffs to use your move set, and give an aerial attack that removes all 3?
@@samakiraroyjanssen6326 it does have a small unique trick with an aerial focus strike
I FINALLY know how to do that tornado move! Thank you!
Be careful. You have to max the charge. Otherwise it won't follow. Talking from experience
Thanks for that Guide.
The bounce was my favorite🥲
As a glaive main I can't wait till full release and i can experience multiple monsters with the good ol pogo stick
I am enjoying the IG alot. The wound attacks kinsect damage must be bugged tho. It sometimes hits for like 600-900 damage in total.
Yeah I was wondering wtf was up with those numbers
the damage numbers are scuffed, but the actual damage you're doing is much less, it's just a visual bug
from the finishing spin and then jump and then boom stab the wound, essence is back again. was really fun indeed
since dust types are present, hope the explosion ability from rise comes back haha, really enjoyed my mage build lols
I'm gonna miss it so much
The worst thing about the IG in Wilds is the fact that the changes that capcom made to IG is basically making me relearn the IG.
The damage in the beginning was insane
Are we sure that the helicopter is not just locked behind specific gleves or insects?
Wasn't there a counter or offset move that was shown during a trailer? i Couldn't figure it out
Maybe im confusing with HH.
The rising spiral slash is very hard to do. Is there something I’m missing?
i tried IG today and its so much more fun then in iceborne... even if the helicopter is missing.. the charge attack tho
I saw that and I was like how is this possible
I like the new charge attack but they really should have found a way to put it on R2. I realize R2 is already doing a lot...maybe R2+circle to start charging but after that it will charge until you release R2 so you don't have to hold circle? I don't know. But they need to do something because actually playing this weapon is a struggle right now...
i will use it again insect glaive and dualblade , i love those 2 XD
I was using an Xbox controller adapter for the PC port, so once Wilds hits I'm going to have to TRAIN a lot.
Mid-tier perfomance with my favorite weapon will not be tolerated! 😂
Already Love the New Glaive, but this Video just Increased it 100 Fold 🔥🔥🔥
I'm gonna miss the flying monkey king IG though
Well this is a beta so best to fill out a form and pray for the best
Even I've been thrown off my groove with Wilds glaive a bit but that's also partially because of the horrendous button layout and the unexpected lag that persists no matter the settings (despite World running easy at max settings).
i rlly like it
@@timothy6583 where do we fill out a form?
Idk if I'll be able to play this as is because of my joint pain and I'll miss the helicopter a lot.
I do like the new kinsect return animations. They make them seem more like actual bugs and I love bugs.
Im planning on maining db, sns and bow but i lowkey wanna play ig for those animations alone, god damn..
Has anyon3 figured out a way to better do R2 and Triange hold for the drill kinsect collect? The layout of the buttons feels absolutely ass when ttying to hold both R2, triangle, and then aim with the analog stick
Its so jank
You could use the motion control option
There are a few way to do it:
_Remap button
_Gyro ( motion control )
_Backbuttons
_Or when you actually used to it, you can pre-aim it, then just R2+hold tri don't need to aim it again.
Lest then a day left
U think you'll get the rest out before then?
Only thing I dislike is the button mapping on controller But I can get behind the helicopter being gone
If only we could remap the controller buttons. Could put the attacks on bumper and trigger so you can easily keep controlling the camera
What's wrong with button mapping?
@@Nkodtb I think it's best if you watch the video from rurikhan, as he shows the problem with a handcam.
I love how people are complaining that the second bounce was taken away so they will not be in the air so much while Wilds literally made it that with enought skill and combo you will almost never touch the ground XD
It's different yes, but it's absolutely better in any way.
Now I just can't wait to try a kinsect that can actually flies instead of limping in the air 🤣
I only wish they brought back powder vortex from Rise.
i was bitching about the changes at 1st, but i'm ngl this is the most fun i think ive had with any iteration of this weapon
at first i wasn’t on board with them getting rid of the helicopter play style, but now it looks like the trade off is better imo, with more aerial attacks that actually does cool moves and damage, esp since you can chain them
I'm actually so glad that the Insect Glaive became a real weapon instead of being a borderline gimmick weapon
I wonder why nobody has been talking about the different weapons sneak attacks they added?
Cause most people don't know it exists lmao.
I've done a good 30 hunts with others; probably saw one or two guys using it
Weapons what now?
Anyone else count how many times you'll have to be using L2 (LT xbox). Literally 60-70% of every fight. You're welcome from a experienced pov (Don't believe me watch the speedruns Glaives were doing lol.)
IG used to be my favorite range weapon in sunbreak
bonk bonk for not making a bonk bonk video yet!
It me, the IG main. Thank you for this. I still hate how the enhanced moves got locked to full extracts but whatever.
Can't wait for the full game to come out now, I'm sold.
so the floor's not lava anymore, fair enough with that cool moves
wish your guides instead of being playstation targeted, would use primary attack, secondary attack, jump etc so that others not used to ps controls can use them easier
As a m+kb player this has always driven me insane lol
Even just putting the equivalent inputs for xbox or mouse and keyboard below the PlayStation ones in the graphic would be great
Idky but when i try to lock onto the monster then start doing aerial stuff, my character keeps coming towards me (the screen) instead of towards the monster. Playing on PC, any help would he appreciated.
Aah yes, the apache attack helicopter stick
The annoying thing with insect glaive is u need to get the red buff otherwise it won’t have the smooth animation and attacks and it decays over time. I think the collecting part is what deter people from choosing this weapon. Also slow bug movement
My God - finally
Holding O while doing R2+X then releasing O is kinda hard for me. Guess I'll stick to the ground for that one
I’d love to see hammer!
