Just to let the mad gamers that scream about specific moves that I didn't cover in this video, as I said at the start of the video, this is just how I use the weapon. TL;DR, I don't talk about the best combo or highest damaging move in the vid. This is for beginners that want to learn how to use the weapon from how I play with it. heres a general guide for the extracts because i can see some confusion: orange extract usually comes from the most defensive part of its body. the white is whatever the monsters main mode of transportation is (usually wings or legs). red is almost always the head, if not then its usually whatever the monster uses to attack.
Just started playing MHW with some friends and been watching guides on the IG all day and this is the first one that I found cleanly explains the mechanics of this weapon without being too over cluttered with unfiltered information. I've already noticed my gameplay has improved since watching your video so thanks heaps.
I've found this very efficient to staying alive better solo. May take a tad bit longer to drop the monster but it'll get the job done eventually without you getting slept. P.S. since I've posted this I have switched from IG to lance and have to say, I absolutely love the lance. I can mount about as often as I need to like I could with the IG and it's so much safer than the IG, even when I over used air attacks with IG, lance is safer all around. And the damage from the lance is still really nice and consistent. Love the weapon for sure. Still, it's nice going back to some easier fights and spinning in the air with the IG every once in awhile lol
If you go in a hunt with that intention, you can stack damage decorations as well to compensate - fairly reliable tbh - no need for nearly as many evade, resuscitate, defensive or resistance skills
This is true it may not deal much in damage but its a pretty good beginner weapon it was like one of the second weapons i began using when i started the game and its still pretty fun to use.

I'm a new MH player, and quickly became a longsword one trick using dual blades as a fun off meta weapon for hunts. Wanted to use this weapon because the odogaron trident weapon looked sick. This guide helped a bunch, it's a fun spinny beyblade when you go up in the air. Gonna try to *effectively* use the charge blade next, I think

-The Flinch Free skill has a secondary effect where at rank 3, any slinger ammo will apply both buffs to your kinsect, as well as add additional effects to extracts. It looks like you used it in the clip starting at --10:49-- but didn't mention it in the skill section. It's incredibly useful for IG.- Edit: Flinch free gives additional extract buffs but does not apply both slinger ammo buffs at once. The "Spirit & strength boost" kinsect bonus which is tied to your glaive does this. Clutch Claw Boost (shaver) makes weakening monster parts much easier and gives you more slinger ammo drops than you'll know what to do with. It's an easy skill to miss since you can only get it from the melder as a decoration, or crafted at the smith as a charm which is an incredibly wasteful use of your charm slot as it's only a 1 rank skill, and it's pretty much useless with any other weapon. But it really makes the Insect Glaive much smoother to use.

I honestly was using the Aim + R2 move for the extracts which made it very hard to get any extracts at all, your video helped me a lot to understand the weapon.
So I'm still fairly new to MH as I'm only MR 61 and HR 69, I started out with charge blade and eventually taught myself the switchaxe, dual blades, and longsword. But I never saw interest in the glaive before, this video just changed my mind on that and the moveset looks amazing, sorta glad now that I ended up picking up 2 Safi'jiivas glaives (water and blast) they are 100% going to be what I use for awhile now.
Also, when you have all three extracts the buffs for each increase and the duration extends. The extracts will also grant a few ranks of earplugs, tremor res, and wind res
The Insect Glaive was instant love for me ❤ Although I am trying out Bow and Charge Blade now for some new input....Insect Glave will stay my first love forever

Good Video but the end was not nice constitution/stamina source is not needed, only for the Helicpter spamer and we all know that helicopter move is only good for evade or repositioning. Only power prolonger is needed for comfort if we talk about the glaive.
Nice video!!! You cover a lot in just 13 minutes and makes a lot of things clear like the infinite combo you should not hold a mobe button which was not mention in other video that i watched and resulting me to think that the new update does not allow me to perform that move.
I would've said Power Prolonger to keep the Insect buffs active for a longer time but someone here said it's bugged. Otherwise, all the other skills I've already listed in the video are the ones that I would focus on.
I normally collect the extracts this way: If I can i get red and/or white first and fight until it is about to wear off (both extract indicators start flashing). That's when I start aiming for the orange buff because you will have the red buff up for a longer period of time than instantly getting triple buff. If I get the orange buff first I start getting the other ones as well but I prefer having the red buff as long as i can. Since Iceborne came out it's so much less of a deal to do so. I'm maining the insect glaive since Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
Imo the hardest monster to extract from is beelze. You can get 2 of them easy, but one of them is super tricky. I think you get it from under the neck, or those dangly bits on its neck.
Am i doing it wrong by always having master mounter on my builds cause i always want to do more mounting and all out attack once the monster is down? somehow for me, it's easier that way if i want to focus on attacking monster's specific part
Whatever rocks your boat man 👌 I'd say let people choose whatever they want. Other people would probably say that you don't need it because you're wasting master mounter for more damage and mounting is not useful when you can clutch claw and wall bang them for massive damage. For me, as long as you can defeat the monster then use whatever you want
insect glaive... you are pretty much a suport in terms of stuns.. you can hit hard in the air *and your the only weapon that can fight flying monster directly
The Insect Glaive would be a great weapon if the buffs would stay active longer. 90 seconds is much too short of a time. The buff's should last double that (3 minutes) before needing to be recharged. If they would have made Power Prolonger increase by 100%, then that's exactly what we would have gotten. Having to interrupt my attacks in less than 2 minutes to re-buff everything is obnoxious.
No, it can only provide healing if you use a kinsect with a healing dust effect. The only weapon that can provide buffs for your teammates is the Hunting Horn
You forgot to mention the kinsect drill move, if you play like this your choice will always be a strong but slow Kinsect. For the Kinsect buff it self, it's not about the kinsect it's about the slinger you will feed and also depends on the glaive it self. And helicopter is quite fun against flying monster.

it might not be ideal dps wise, but using exclusively aerial attacks with red buff is a good way to take out larger monsters solo.

FYI: Power Prolonger is bugged in MHW to not affect kinsect buffs, as far as I am aware. Re-test this, but the last time I tested this, it was broken.

Um I didn't mention anything about blocking projectiles but I have blocked Rathalos's fireballs when you Kinsect mark Rathalos's mouth

change equipment and then weapon, you can swap your kinsect there

The armor I'm using is Fatalis's armor which is extremely end game armor. Don't expect to get this mid game
