  • When you first buy your ND Mazda Miata, you may be excited to hit the road and enjoy its sporty handling and sleek design. However, as I learned the hard way, there can be hidden dangers lurking underneath the surface. In my case, cracks began to form in various places on my car, and I initially brushed them off as cosmetic issues. But as time went on, I started to notice more and more signs that something wasn't quite right.
Eventually, I discovered that the inside of my car's frame was pushing out on the bumper, causing the cracks and indicating a much more serious problem. If I had ignored these warning signs, the consequences could have been disastrous. That's why I want to share my story with other ND Mazda Miata owners and help you avoid the same fate.
In this video, I'll walk you through the warning signs that your car might be experiencing similar issues, including cracks in the body, unusual noises or vibrations, and other indicators that something isn't quite right. I'll also share what I learned about the underlying problem and how it can be addressed, including potential repairs or replacements that may be necessary.
As a fellow ND Mazda Miata owner, I understand how much you love your car and want to keep it in top condition. That's why I urge you to watch this video and take action to protect your vehicle from similar issues.

Are you sure this did not happen because your miata has been previously repared by the previous owner ? I have one for 5 years and no sign of this is there.

This is happening to him because he took the plastic support out behind his emblem when he installed the spider grill

Did you take the plastic support Bove the grille opening when you installed the Carbon Miata grille?
Taking the plastic support above the grille opening will let the bumper cover flex more than normal while driving, letting it get pushed into those crasher horns.

Those are designed to allow the bumper and crash bar to fold in properly, it may even have some safety design for low speed pedestrian crashes. If everything is buttoned on properly in the front, it should absolutely not be causing any issue with your paint. I have over 100k mi on a 16 in soul red and drive it fairly hard, including high speeds, and have had zero issues with that pressure point. It was almost exclusively the fault of the decision to go to that shady place you described along with the fact that you have that spider grill which basically removes the entire structural member that makes the front fascia much more rigid. Unfortunately this is just a perfect storm and I would definitely recommend replacing the original grill and getting it repainted. I'm not even sure the sanding down of the metal plates was a good choice as far as safety and fascia rigidity goes. Best of luck from another ND owner!!

you chanced out the grill. this grill doesn't have the support the original does. there for the bumper can now flex causeing the damage we see here.

Nice moto guzzi ! I don't know if it's your motorcycle but it's nice seeing someone appreciate both of these two works of art.

Because you installed the spider grill. The factory grill had a piece that covered that area.

I had damage to my front bumper from road debris, replaced it and since I was replacing it, took an opportunity to put in the same carbon Miata grill, had absolutely no issues with that for more then 30,000, miles, currently have 62000 miles on 2019 RF and the paint looks perfect. I don’t think that your problem is caused by the grill replacement

Hmmm the OEM grill has a bunch of more plastic supporting but not sure if that helps in preventing the bumper scuffing from the inside ...

    • @Vitalewastaken
      @Vitalewastaken  ปีที่แล้ว

That could potentially be another cause! Not sure why the aftermarket spyder grilles don’t come with extra bumper rigidity.

@@Vitalewastaken yeah youre supposed to cut the oem bumper support off the oem grille and leave it in

Due to the excessive expense of repairs for such small defects, I started using vinyl car decals to either cover them up or to distract the viewers eye from the damage. It is cheap and easy and can be kind of cute. Put a small Snoopy decal, in WW1 flight cap and scarf with front legs stretched forward as in driving , over a nasty scratch. People loved it.

Thank God, I was typing an angry comment because I thought the blue zip tie in earlier shots was a "permanent" solution. Any update? Subframe reinforcement?

It looks like on the stock grille there are foam bumpers in the areas where you show the metal pushing through the bumper. I think they are there because the euro spec cars have a cross member bar that is the pedestrian safety sensor. I was considering putting this on mine so thank you for the heads up.

I have had my ‘19 for nearly four years with NONE of the issues you discuss. Which makes me suspect your problems are the result of owner modifications (using non-Mazda OEM parts) or prior accident damage.
Compared to other vehicles, there is nothing inherently suspect with the ND’s front bumper, hood or paint!

Nice warning review. I have a 2021 MX5 ND manual rag top, with a small paint chip on the bonnet re following a Jag e-type rag top V12 on a club run. Lesson learnt re keeping distance from the car ahead. Note the 50 year old e-type V12 jag was still amazing in the twisty bits, and the Jag interior is from another (lovely) dimension.

Once the chip happens its all about preventing it from spreading. Thanks for sharing!

I have a 2021 ND2 GT. Soul Red 6MT soft top. Finest machine I’ve ever owned in 44 years of driving. Highest performing machine I’ve owned. And every Miata video on you tube regarding Miata problems has to do with people destroying the car with improperly done modifications and sub par quality parts and workmanship. The best thing to do is leave it alone and enjoy it. Every non Mazda part you put on it will lower it’s quality level big time.

      Ok boomer
Modding can be done right, and can be fun. This guy absolutely loves his car 10x more than when it was stock, you don't have to agree but you can't deny the fact he would much rather have messed up paint and all those mods than a stock, clean car

    • @cody7349

ND is the chassis code for the generation of Miata. NA, NB, NC, and this being the 4th gen, ND.

thin factory paint is not helping this issue.
