The rumors are that the performance difference between the 50 series and the 40 series is going to be less than the difference between the 40 series and 30 series. And leaks have been true for the last 4 or so years now so yeah... Also Nvidia's leaker said that they're going to heavily market their "efficiency" meaning they're prepared to label a card that was going to be a 5060 as a 5060ti or even a 5070. So I wholeheartedly expect the 50 series cards to be shit. While praying that intel actually forces Nvidia and AMD's hands to drop something meaningful.

Wow Daniel, this is a huge amount of work and we thank you for it. I'm not sure you addressed the issue of increased CPU load on upgrading your GPU (although possibly you did and I missed it, there was a lot in this video). Looking at the CPU load watching your tests I saw a 25% to 50% increase in CPU load between the two GPUs. I don't remember what CPU you're using but increasing your GPU performance by 30% has the potential to move the bottleneck to the CPU and then you're leaving the new GPU's performance on the table. For example, my rig is running an RX6800XT and an I5-12600KF. In Cyberpunk I've tuned the settings to give me 74FPS at 1440P with everything set to ultra/high, RT reflection mapping on but the rest of RT off and FSR2 set to auto. The GPU runs at 95% utilization and the CPU is at 80%. If I was to upgrade my GPU for significantly more performance, I feel I would have to upgrade my CPU as well to handle the extra load and suddenly that GPU upgrade is a lot more expensive. It's just a thought.

It's worth the upgrade, assuming you sell your 3070TI as used and get back at least $300. So is a 50% boost worth $300 and that doesn't include FG? Yes, plus it is running much cooler and efficient. I did the move when the 4070TI came out, got $400 back on selling 3070TI used. And for $400 it has been worth it from the start in that switch. To me for 1440P, the 4070S at $600 is the sweet spot for easily hitting your #'s and for saving $200 vs the next model up. I would have bought the 4070S card over the 4070TI if it were available day one, still luv the 4070TI and I get some extra performance yet.

I think it'd be reasonable to test 1080p at DLSS Quality, 1440p at DLSS Balanced, and 4k at DLSS Performance, as these are the Nvidia recommended settings and look quite good since DLSS 3 upscaling (which anyone can implement by just replacing the .DLL with a newer distro).
I understand not doing that for FSR as I don't think most gamers will opt to use any setting more aggressive than Quality, but the other options are totally viable for DLSS.
Edit: btw I should say that I think the video was great. I appreciate that you take the time to do these more comprehensive comparisons

It’s not gonna be for everyone, but there are solid reasons to upgrade, especially if you’re planning on reselling your current card to offset the cost of a new one.

One thing that does stand out to me, though, some games more than others have a big difference in power consumption between the cards, with the 4070 looking much more efficient. As someone who's had to undervolt their 3070ti to get their temperatures under control, that is pretty appealing. Won't be upgrading any time soon but will keep an eye out once the next gen comes out and prices come down a bit. Hoping this is a trend that continues, no point in having horsepower if hardly anyone has the cooling capable to tame it.

Upping to 1440p seems like it will struggle though unless using upscaling and dialing down settings quite a bit on newer games, but a 4070S seems to be near double the performance, but the cost is more than double which makes it seems to be underwhelming.

My goal was to purchase a 3070ti as an upgrade from my 1660ti that I’ve had for about 4 years now.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any 3070ti’s available and ended up finding a decent deal on a 4070 Super for about $550 USD. I’m a little disappointed with the restrictions in VRAM and memory bandwidth but I don’t tend to follow the trend of chasing AAA release titles much, and will be excited to have something that offers decent performance for a respectable value, that no other card really offers at the same price point.
We’ll see how things pan out in the latter half of the year.
But overall, I’m excited to finally upgrade.

Because, Nvidia spec'ed the GDDR6X with 1GB/32bit? Plus, GDDR6 2GB/32bit is pretty new, that's why the 3060 has 12GB of VRAM.
Nvidia updated the GDDR6X for 40 series, moving to 2GB/32bit, and like previous gen, 4060 Ti received the 4GB/32bit GDDR6. 4060 could have received the larger module, however, it's heavily cut down.
What do you expect when 50 series 70 class and up has 4GB/32bit GDDR7X (assuming they have 192bit to 320 bit)? Assuming GDDR7 will have 3 stages, mid GDDR7 may have 8GB/32bit.

It's a decent GPU for the price, I guess, but considering there exist Alan Wake 2 RT High, Avatar Ultra and CP2077 RT Overdrive, in other words games that are borderline unplayable at the highest settings even at 1080p this is not a GPU I'd pay $600 for. In my opinion (and this is just my psychology, not saying that everyone should think the same) $600 should buy you the highest possible settings playable in all recent and tech advanced games. Maybe not at the highest possible resolution, but at 1080p for sure. But that's just me. I'm gonna wait for the RTX50 series, hoping for something a little bit more exciting.

Stupid argument, over 30fps is playable in a single player title and its just dumb trying to run pathtracing at native resolution. And that argument will hold true for the upcoming two generations as well so keep waiting lol. 4070 super can get 60fps at 1440p with pathtracing in those games with dlss quality and frame gen. And idk what you are on about for Avatar, this card is pushing well over 60fps at native 1440p ultra. Better critique for this card would be the low 12gb vram for the price point.

    • @kosmosyche
      @kosmosyche 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@dhaumya23gango75 What's dumb is you trying to impose your low standards and your way of thinking on everyone.
This is a $600 card. The question of whether this or that game is playable at the best settings on it shouldn't even stand at all. Again, this is my opinion, I'm not telling you what to think. If you think this is good value for $600 - be my guest. As for me, I'm not gonna spend $600 only to be disappointed with performance and not even in the future titles, but in the titles that have already came out.
Also frame gen will not help you get better performance. It is a frame smoothing technology which doesn't even work that well (and is not recommended for use) if your base framerate is lower than 50-60 fps. And DLSS is DLSS. It's just scaling from lower resolutions. I have no problem playing at lower resolutions, just don't call it saviour of performance, it just makes lower resolutions a little bit more tolerable on higher res displays. Besides, it doesn't work that great if you are not scaling to 4k. And I'm not on a 4k display, so it's not that useful to me. Basically both technologies are just a way of coping with playing at lower resolutions and lower framerates. Not something I'd pay $600 for.
      "30fps is playable"
Barely, and only if you really don't know what's good. And for $600 I want a bit more, thanks.
"this card is pushing well over 60fps at native 1440p ultra"
Yeah, watch the video. It's 62 fps average with 53 lows. Not anywhere near what I would consider "pushing well over 60 fps", far from it, it barely tries to keep 60fps, but fails miserably. Again, this is where I have the main problem with this card. It's simply not good enough for the price. $600 should buy you more, simple as that.
And of course I'll wait and see what the next gen brings. I have no problem with waiting. If the next gen disappoints the same way this gen does, so be it, I'll make the decision then. Right now I'm just not excited enough to upgrade for this GPU for this price.
"low 12gb vram for the price point"
This too, but at least this is not really such a huge problem in EXISTING titles, if the general performance was better. But this is certainly something to think about if you want a card you buy for $600 to be relevant in a couple of years. This card is barely relevant for it's price now even without the VRAM problem. VRAM deficit is just the cherry on top of it's other problems for the price.

Is 3440x1440 what you're 3070ti is currently doing for you? If so, what's the upgrade? I think people need a bit more information than that - e.g. I'm using this, at this resolution, getting this framerate in the game I play (which is X). Will this other card let me do Y? Where Y is increase frame rate, add ray tracing, go to ultra settings from mid.
But I agree with the general sentiment that for many of us, it's more prudent to sit out an entire generation if we'd like to see a huge bump in performance but not spend more money. Or even save a little each month until spring, and be able to go up to another card entirely (like a second hand 4080, or a new 4080 Super). Thing is, it depends what's 'wrong' with your current setup that you're trying to improve.

i have a 3070ti and honestly with fsr3 frame generation coming i think it can hold even more than a year.. Sadly the only problem is the 8gb VRAM. I played alan wake 2 on high with the fsr frame gen mod and honestly it was a good experience 80+ fps with really little to none existent stuttering ^^ but anw m skipping the 4000 series xD

8gb is fine, don’t listen to them who saying you bought a bad card that aged like milk. You are definitely fine for foreseeable future

The 50xx gen will hopefully show real comparable data with FG. They can't just say "just flip on FG and double your framerate" anymore since both will have it at that point. That is the real reason they didn't unlock it in the 30xx gen. Marketing just doesn't hit that hard when actually comparing apples to apples.

youtube needs to put in higher refresh rates

    • @danielowentech
      @danielowentech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Higher framerates would still be choppy on this type of footage because it still wouldn't be variable refresh rate to match the variable framerate of the game, so it would still be out of sync.

I told myself I will upgrade my 3070 to a 4070ti Super or 4080 Super if the performance doubles at 1440p ultra settings. We'll see what the next 2 weeks bring.

So basically, ANY ONE who bought anything but a 40 series card back when there were NO 40 series cards even made yet, are absolute fools. So buying an in generation card makes you a dope. I wonder what they'll be calling those who buy 40 series cards when the 50 series drops.

I have a 3060 ti. I probably feel similar to most, since im in the $350-450 gpu price bracket, but we really need a $/perf uplift gen over gen in this range. Imo the 3060 ti was the best deal to be had, when at msrp last gen. Why now is the best price to performance around $550-600? None of it makes sense.

A mix of latest games becoming much more demanding all of the sudden, inflation, tariffs and capitalism.
I think more and more games will have RT on at some level all the time like Avatar does now that it’s been around a couple years.
I won some fantasy football money and about to do that exact upgrade while my 3060ti still has good value used. Otherwise I’d be keeping my 3060ti a couple more years. The timing was right with the bump of the Super release and BestBuy has the FE in stock locally.
