Hi Vex, the 2 slots are not there for anythig to be solder onto them. Memory chips can work in 32 or 16 bit modes... and so on. 320(bit) / 20(GB RAM) = 16 256 / 8 = 32 256 / 16 = 16 192 / 6 = 32 192 / 12 = 16 ...and so on. That gives you a picture of what is possible. You can cheat a bit but then you get situation like with GTX970 where some of the VRAM works much slower than it should. (192 / 16 = 12 so this is not viable) Hope that helps!
Amazing Video like always. Please make video about Nvidia Gen to Gen peformance and price diffrence . Because RTX 4070 Ti shoud be named RTX 4070 and priced at 550-600$ from the beginning . Like we RTX 3070 was faster the RTX 2080 by 20% and now RTX 4070 has same RTX 3080 performance . RTX 4070 Ti is better then RTX 3080 by 20%. Nvidia missleading by using wrong names and higher prices . Even power draw efficiency is lie because RTX 3070 has 220 watt TDP and RTX 4070 Ti (the real RTX 4070) has the same power draw and the same goes on for the rest of GPU's.
Anything looks good compared to previous 40 series cards. They are all overpriced. comparing a bad price to a bad price is still a bad price. Also your channel has come a long way from 1k subs! Grats on your growth, your great, keep it up, more subs will come!

i just bought the 7800xt xfx quick, its a good card mw3 170-180fps on max settings, and the colours are far better then my rtx3060ti which i replaced with the 7800xt
The contact pads for extra RAM chips are intended so that the same PCBs can be used for GPUs based on AD103 (RTX 4080s and 4070 Ti Supers). AD103 uses the same substrate package layout as AD104 (the chip used for the RTX 4070, 4070 Super, and 4070 Ti), and that substrate includes connections for 2 extra RAM chips but AD104 only has a 192-bit memory bus, so it can't use the extra connections, the other 6 chips use up the whole 192 bits. So the extra connections on the PCB are only usable when an AD103 GPU is used. It's not that the chip is "cut down", AD104 is a completely different chip which physically doesn't have any way to use the extra connections.
Exactly, this is why i dont like it when people talk about things they dont know anything about and jump to assumtions and made up conclusions...this looks just bad for them and he fell for this trap and not for the first time... but its good to see, that i'm not the only one pointing that out. cheers. :)
Bytesizetech explained in a recent video that in order to use >12GB with the 192 bit bus of these GPUs, the GPU should run at lower speeds or just double the 12GB to 24GB, or something like that (don't remember).
@@Adri9570 You cant exceed the 12GB as each chip needs 32bit making it 6 chips à 2GB at a 192Bit interface. The only way would be to use bigger and more expensive Modules, which pretty much do not exist yet...as we just got the 2gig sized ones a while ago. Well yes, you could also try double stacking on the backside aswell, but that brings its own problems and doesnt work very well, if not intentionally made for with the controllers and co. Not to mention the additional power, voltage, phases and generated heat again... The 3+Gig ones will probably only coming with GDDR7 and RTX5000.
Yes, they are both trying to just slightly be faster than the other to say they're better, so they can then have the higher price. Nvidia could have sold the 4080 for 750$ and instantly win the generation, but they decided since it's predicted to be faster than AMD's flagship then they may as well charge more than what AMD would charge for their flagship. They're just trying to squeeze more money out of less and less consumers. The reason they often show big improvements (especially Nvidia for counting FG as real FPS) over last gen is to say to people who haven't upgraded "look how bad your GPU is now, you need to upgrade!". Jensen Huang himself directly addressed GTX 1000 owners saying "it's safe to upgrade" at the launch of Ampere, which is the exact moment I realised Nvidia went corrupt. AMD isn't doing much better, just copying some of Nvidia's homework and switching it up and making it marginally better. Hopefully Intel Battlemage can give Huang and Dr Su a reality check.
@@Crazicali hope the battlemage is insane value and rocks the market. We need the market to reset in a good way for consumers. Well see though. Theres a ton of potential in the mid range market as thats where a majority of pc gamers hang.
@@ElJewPacabrah It wont be because they'll only be releasing the base model due to it being too 'expensive' to have multiple cards. At least that's what they're saying for now.
AMD wants to get rid of RDNA2 stock, and from now untill rdna4 they will want to get rid of rdna3 stock. My prediction is massive cuts when rdna4 is released, and rdna4 will bring current highend performance for midrange prices. Then when RDNA5 is out, the 8800xt/8700xt will become "budget"/ low midrange cards, and the 9xxx cards will be a new tier of performance at nvidia prices. Meanwhile there will be apus as powerful as the 6600/6650xt with zen 6 / ddr6 which will have 64-128GBps bandwith per dimm
@@Crazical I understand why Nvidia behaves this way, as they have 80%+ of the dedicated GPU market share and they can get away with it. It just doesn't make sense why AMD refuses to put out better value cards and start moving units to gain some ground on Nvidia. They aren't even trying to compete in this space. They seem content to let Nvidia dominate them and at this rate even Intel could eventually surpass them. We need some of that innovation from the CPU side
ram and ginpped bus and bet you next gen will have another feature that will make the current one obsolete at least if you are stupid enough to buy ngreedia in the first place. i have both ngreedia and amd and wish all were amd....
And AMD uses more VRAM than Nvidia even on GPUs with the same amount of VRAM. Perhaps you should ask why. In some scenarios the difference be well over 1GB on a 8GB Nv vs 8GB AMD GPU. Why is this? Is AMDs compression just that bad? Nvidia doesnt seem to need as much VRAM. Regardless. If you're a muppet that have to play everything on ULTRA (no reason to do so) then you should reconsider. Also 3 years from now, textures on Medium will be what todays Ultra is. So it doesnt matter. UNless you're a pixelpeeper at 4K. People rave about VRAM a lot. But in 99% of the scenarios, you wont notice adifference between texture qualities unless you literally stand still and pixelpeep. From a normal viewing distance of 60-80cm then you wont notice a lick of a differnce between todays High and Ultra. All you're doing is getting upset about something you're not really missing out on. Anyway in 3 years from now, judging by todays games, the current 7800xt and 4070 S will be long obsolete in raster anyway.
@@haewymetalI agree with this but it’s a little aggressive lol. I have an 8gb VRAM card and I haven’t had any issues with 1440p gaming even with high textures. The only game that I have been limited by VRAM on is the RE4 remake, which is notoriously VRAM hungry. Even then, it just meant I could only have the textures most of the way to maximum instead of max. I think unless you’re doing path tracing at 4k, 12gb will be plenty for years to come. And if you ARE doing path tracing at 4k, you wouldn’t buy a 4070 in the first place.
PS2 at launch in 2000 was $300, accounting for inflation thats $580 today. A high end graphics card for the price of a console? Pretty cheap to me. But most people are bad with their money.
Easy to say that, but what matters is performance and value. And at least right now, it looks like 4070S offers a better overall value than the 7800XT unless its price drops. I also worry about 12GB going into the future, but that's just a worry right now, based on speculation and assumption.
@@RobVee.the RTX 4080 super is the highest worth is you have the money but I do agree if you want good graphics card don’t hang to pay to much get the RTX 4070 ti super
That's 700 euro for us in Europe, maybe higher depending on what country you live in and if you can an order delivered at a reasonable price from Germany, spain, maybe France or whatever country you can find a deal 😢, I can get a basic model 7800xt from Germany for about €560... But to buy in Ireland and the cheapest website here is about €640 for a 7800xt... Which really is just a 7800, the 7900gre is what the 7800xt should have been. We really need to be seeing good midrange GPUs to be hitting 350-400 USD before we'll feel we're not being ripped off here, because later this year we'll start to see NVIDIA 5000 series and rDNA 4, so 700 euro on a 4070s is last gen by xmas 2024
The reason there plenty of 4070 super cards in stock at msrp is because people are not willing to buy a 12GB vram gpu at $600 price range. Nvidia skimped on vram and its biting them in the ass. As it should. Only fools buy the 4070 super to upgrade from some 3080 or 6700xt or 6800.
I'm not sure about how much its hitting them. All the people who need like 20+ gb for work-related stuff are forced to buy 3090s /4090s when otherwisely they might just need a lot less performance
The 4070 super wins on size and efficiency. No doubt it'll sell to mainstream customers way more than the 7800xt. It fits in any case and works with the tried and true 650w PSU.
7800xt works on decent 600w psu no problems even overcloked with over 300w power, ref model of 7800xt is quite small GPU and 4070 super is not selling good at all..
5:20 Each GDDR6 IC has a 32-bit interface to communicate with the GPU. Since the AD104 chip, used by the 4070, 4070 Ti, and 4070 Super, has a 192-bit interface, you can only connect 6 memory chips at a time to them. To cut costs, that PCB design is also utilized by other cards, like the 4080, and 4080 Super and the 4070 Ti Super, which use the AD103 GPU, which has a 256-bit memory interface that can have 8 GDDR6 chips connected to it, hence the 2 missing slots.
I upgraded to a 7800xt 2 months ago and I’m very happy with it, waiting for the 4070 super was a option but at the time there was nothing about price or performance, still surprised that the 4070 super is still only 7% faster though.
@@tringuyen7519 that 192 bit memory bus is killer at 1440p or 4k. everyone talks about 12gb of vram and frankly ya its a little low especially for the cost but would still be ok for a while its the memory bus being 192bit that really makes me question why its marketed as a 1440p card because it isnt going to age well and already struggling on newer titles at those higher resolution. 1440p card needs a 256 bit bus at minimum. frankly its obvious the 4060 was suppose to be a new 50 series card and 70 was suppose to be a 60 series card and 4070ti super should have been the 4070 from the start except with original core count.

*I would take the 7800XT, yes the 4070S might be better now, however with more games using more VRAM as time goes on the 7800XT with the 16GB would be better value. Also, along with that AMD will continue to improve on the software side, FSR etc. long story short the 7800XT will improve in it's life cycle whereas the 4070S with have more issues with limited VRAM*
To be fair, Nvidia also constantly improves DLSS, FG and RR quality. And they also announced Neural Compressed Textures, which may help with that 12GB buffer in the future. We can not be sure what future will bring us, that is the point. And by the time 7800 XT will take advantage of these additional 4 GB, this card may simply become outdated due to the lack of raw GPU power. 🤔
@@AKMcF Yes if they implement games with RT already built into the game then it will be an issue. For the second point I'm talking in context to the video so 1440p gaming.
@@stangamer1151 Yes both will continue to improve, I meant to say AMD has more room for improvement in FSR department. DLSS already looks close to native, AMD is far behind in upscaling, if they can also make it look close to native and remove those shimmers etc then AMD will look more appealing in terms of value.
I’m about to upgrade from a 1070 to the 7800xt and I have 0 regrets. This is exactly what I wanted for my budget and i’m happy a fairly priced graphics card option exists for what I need
That's completely fair, the 7800xt is a great card, I'm also currently on a 1070 and was thinking about upgrading to a 7800xt for a while, but ultimately I ordered a 4070 super the other day and am waiting for it to arrive this weekend. It mainly came down to raytracing and DLSS for why I chose to go for the 4070 super, it really was close though, I basically decided that I would wait and see how the 4070 super performed in reviews, and if it didn't do well enough I'd have pulled the trigger on the 7800xt (also if AMD aggressively dropped the price to £450 that would have also given me serious room for thought).
apart from jayz2cents, it seems the RT benchmarks are pretty lightweight and make AMD look better than it actually is in RT. Appreciate the meta-analysis! Would be curious to do more of this to identify if any discrepancies do exist between the techtubers
This is nice, but I can't keep giving money to Nvidia when AMD is giving me more to work with on a budget. $50-$100 still means something to the middle of the range.
Gamers should be buying amd cards instead... leave the nivida cards to people who actually do productive things with them... these people who have 4070s and higher are playing games for simpletons like counter stroke, cod, battlefield, ubischiet games...
I agree with some of your points but your comment about the extra vram spots on the board aren't for this die. The PCB is mostly likely used for upper range models aswell like the 4080 and upcoming 4070ti super and 4080 super. Those cards use the AD103 die on a 256 bit bus which would support 16gb of vram. The 4070 super physical can't support 16gb as it's a AD104 die on a 192 bit bus, 6 or 12gb is all that gpu can support.
Reason for the missing vram chips on the 4070S is due to the memory bus size. You'd have to double the amount of vram chips to get it working, ie 24GB.
Yeah, I think the 2 slots could be for 8GB (1GB x 8) on this bus cut to 128-bit. The problem is that BIOS for that configuration will never exist. At least outside of nVidia labs. That would be a much worse card though.
I remember when AMD came out with Radeon VII in 2019 which rocked 16GB VRAM reviewers at the time shitted on it heavy . Saying 16GB VRAM isnt need especially when the card couldnt ray trace and stuff . Now 16GB is premium for 1440p and 4K gaming lol . The hate on AMD is real !!
the problem with this card is VRAM, 12GB might be enough for today but who knows in 2-3 years? the average consumer doesn't buy 600+ v.cards every 2-3 years the 4070ti super is a better card with 16GB, will last you easly 5-6 years you pay 200€ more (hopefully), but gain 3 years lifespan, its even a better deal than the 4080s with only 16GB. 4070ti super is the best upgrade.
With increase of vram usage in games, obviously the more performance it needs to run. And with that said, you cannot last longer with either cards unless you are using 4090. Even with 16gb vram, the performance will lack for sure if the 12gb gpus face the wall. So, probably chances are 16gb users upgrading their gpu in about similar time as 12gb gpu user.
Pretty sure this is the same calculation that Nvidia did, as well :D. If the 4070 or the 4070 Super were 16GB it would be an absolute beast of a card. But why do it, when you can shake people up for an extra 200 Euro. I was really looking into upgrading my old GTX 1080, to something newer but all of the offerings in the 600-650 EUR segment are sh*t. 4070 and 4070 Super are both 12GB, so good luck future proofing for gaming. 7800 XT is 16GB and has better price, but it absolutely sucks for AI, especially Stable Diffusion, and its Ray Tracing is pretty damn "meh". Not to mention it's a literal non-upgrade from the 6800 XT, which keeps the latter's second hand prices high, while stores that do have new ones, never bother to adjust 6800 XT prices lower. And finally, you have Intel and the A770 16GB which is an absolute steal for work related tasks and makes the AI units on the 7800 XT look like AMD was being sarcastic with their marketing (just looks at some recent SD benchmarks). But it sucks for gaming and even if it *eventually* reaches it's potential to perform like a 3070 (maaaaybe 3070ti-ish), it would still be way too late. So, I'm probably just going to wait on Battlemage and see what Intel has to offer. If they can reach the original 4070 performance, but with 16GB of VRAM, I'll be a happy camper. In the mean time, I'll continue to do most of my gaming using my 4.50 EUR a month Founders plan on Geforce Now.
@@BaldKiwi117 after that long explanation.. does it? That might be the problem with you. However, just think about it. The vram demanding games we will face are likely to be also graphical demanding. It always has been and always will be. Thats why only the 4090 is the winner after all. Its actually future proofing just like 2080ti or 1080ti did. And for future proofing for next couple yrs, the minimum vram req should be 18gb+ about the 4080 super performance. If you still havent changed your mind after all.. i guess you are using 16gb “future proofing” gpu that you think it will last for next couple years ;)
I guess $600 is the new $300 and $1,600 is the new $900. FYI, Nvidia's overall profit margins are 26%, that's Apple territory levels of monopolistic greed.
@@srobeck77Both are less than 30% COMBINED. NVIDIA knows that they control 70% of the market share, so just through brand recognition alone, they can sell more even if it's marginally worse than its competitors.
Reviews seemed positive, market reaction might not be so forgiving. 600+ for 12gb vram seems like being followed into the public loo and taken advantage off.
Used 3080s are going for a very good price where I live, for around 400 USD. But the 10gb of vram and the ridiculous power consumption have kept me away. I'm just gonna wait for the 4070 non-Super and 7800 XT to hit the used market.

6:10 I don't know how this works but from watching other reviewers I'm pretty sure the chip the 4070 and 4070 super and 4070 ti use CAN'T have 16Gb of ram. That's why the 4070 ti super uses the same chip as the 4080. Maybe it has to be a multiple of 6 or 3 or something. Perhaps it could have 18gb or 24gb. Just guessing, haven't got a clue, I would have thought a tech reviewer would know. I'm pretty sure I've heard other "pc techtubers" mention it.
12gb means you'll have to buy another card only two years or so from now or reduce the texture quality/use upscaling. Which is too much to ask for when you've already paid 600$.
idk about that, I've made a gtx 1650 work since it's release date despite it being a lower range card even at the time of its release. I'd say my new 4070 super will last me a good 6 more years, not everyone needs to play games at 4k ultra settings with 200fps
@@maxtcgeeked like I said "or reduce the texture quality/use upscaling". I bought the RX7800 XT in November, and I feel good about the purchase, even after this Super release. However, I would be happy if the Raytracing performance would be a bit better really. Price wise here in Germany, the RX7800 XT goes for ~530€ (cheapest), and the 4070 Super is at 659€ (cheapest)...the normal 4070 is around 580€. If there is not another drop in pricing, the 4070 Super won't sell well.
I've been considering upgrading my 4060 in the future to a 7800xt or 4070 due to the 8gb vram only, so far I've been fine with it but I'm sure 8 will be an issue for me eventually. I very been told I could probably upgrade to the 4070 without changing anything but maybe have to replace the 600 gold 80 psu if I go 7800xt. I'm going to be getting a 4070 super soon. I currently have a 7800xt and for whatever reason it causes my pc to turn off randomly every few days/sometimes hours/occasionally minutes. No warning...just instantly shuts down. I wanted to love it...I really did. But I'm going back to Nvidia.
Na, it's still a 12GB GPU for 600$+. Not to mention the AIB models that are close or at MSRP tend to be of worse quality than the reference model. So no ty Nvidia.
IMO RT is still not a feature worth pinning for. Currently the 4090 is the only card I'd consider to have competent RT abilities, otherwise you HAVE to use an upscaler to get anything resembling a good frame rate. Upscalers are great but if you're going for max visual fidelity than it's a no go. If RT is something you're really passionate about, prolly still worth waiting for the next gen of gpus.
GTX 1070 came at USD 400 with as much VRAM as a GTX 1080 and outstanding performance for its time. We should understand that GreedVidia only listens as result of boycott.
Great analysis. I don't think the 7800XT needs a price cut though. Couple of reasons why not. My Phathom Gaming card is probably the strongest performing card of all the 7800XTs out there. It's like a run away train when it comes to clock. It just goes up and up resulting in increased performance numberss above what you're seeing in the content creator videos. My 7800XT fps numbers are on par with that of a 4070Ti. I think it could be I've undervolted it is why I'm seeing this. I've seen it boost to 2766MHz no overclock. I've seen TBP as high as 424W without undervolting as well. I don't really care about FSR or RT I care about the raw rasterization. I got a long memory. Second reason the price should remain the same is I remember I bought my 1070Ti back in the day for $500. How much more powerful is a 7800XT over a 1070Ti? So yeah, AMD gave us a more than a fair price imo unlike greedy Nvidia. I will likely never buy Nvidia ever again they've showed us they operate by a culture of greed. That's disgusting. I've bought 4 AMD cards in the past 2 years. I'm itching to pull the trigger on a 7900XT right now and will probably do so. The 7800XT is worth every penny as is.
Yeah, unfortunately when you put it all down on paper the arguments in favor of the 7800XT really aren’t affected much even given how much of a performance bump the 4070 Super makes over the OG 4070. Not too much incentive for AMD to drop prices on that card, or even the 7900XT as those were already in the mid-$700 range. I was thinking about this just prior to ordering a 7800XT a few days ago, I don’t see AMD being that compelled to make any long-standing price drop on it. Maybe incremental changes at most. And I want a reference model anyway, usually the slowest to get any long-standing price drops. Nvidia is likely aiming to raise prices on the 4070 Super to $700+ anyway. Nvidia fanboys will probably pitch in. It’s what they do every generation, every refresh.
Same. It’s not worth it 90% of the time but when it’s discounted it’s discounted HARD. Got one on Prime Day for near around £100 cheaper than the cheapest 4070 ti I could find at the time and I imagine it’ll drop again to undercut the Super when that gets released too.

The cards are great, the PRICE is horrific. $600 should be MAX for a 4080 super duper TI. With AMD dropping the price of their 7900XT and XTX , AMD is getting closer to what prices should be, still high but getting closer and better value
Excuse me what? The 1080ti had an msrp of 699$ in 2016 that's 900$ in today's money not counting the massively increased cost of RnD and everything in general as everything goes up in price so you can't just say "so the 4080 ti super should be 900$ max" as material went up in price, labor goes up in price, as mentioned above money spent on RnD goes up, 1.3Billion in 2016 and 7.3Billion in 2023 Don't get me wrong I absolutely don't like where this is going either but this is all hard and evidential fact.
I went with a saphire pulse 7900xt back in november and based on what I am seeing with the super cards, I don't feel like i'm missing out much. I sincerely doubt there will be enough units of 4070ti supers at MSRP when it launches to satisfy demand.
I'm stupid. Does the 3080 really have a good price to performance given that you'll be pulling more power from the wall? Do we need to factor in the running cost to have the 30 series cards when gaming at least 3-4 hrs a day?
Hey guys, i currently have a 1060-6gb, i just ordered a Gigabyte RTX 4070 Super gaming oc for 719€ (msrp in france is 659€). I read the comments and i'm questioning my purchase (719€ is already a bit over my initial budget). It cost more than it should but it is THE best technology possible and you will play games as today until new console series comes in 4, 5 years cause jump to new gen has already happened and it is games like AW2 which run great on 70 cards. You will be having better experience and RT (if you want it) cause of DLSS than RX 7900xt card can give you on 1440p. 5:58 - This is NOT a cut down chip... well, not when it comes to memory bandwidth... this is the full AD-104, I mean, AD-104 is produced with no more than 192-bit bus. Hence why the 4070 Ti Super went to the next step up AD-103... to have access to the 256-bit bus. The markings on the PCB only means that AD-104 and AD-103 are PIN COMPATIBLE. Or in other words, they have the same pin layout and can be interchangebly used on the same PCB on AIB discretion.
One I noticed in the video was to call out Amd to lower prices , wow . Asking amd to lower rx7800 xt to $450.00 , ok, but calling rtx4070 super a solid price ????? Wow Ask both companies to lower prices techtubers please , you guys are sending wrong message to viewers that Nvidia is solid , NO they are not , Nvidia still price gouging . Stop defending Nvidia please techtubers , you guys are the problem.
Your right to a degree. I wish both cards are cheaper, just forgot to say it for the 4070 super. Although I did say the 7800 xt is very competitive at $500 so there isn’t a reason to change it. I don’t think the 4070 super will possibly change because the 4070 OG isn’t gonna budge at $550 as far as I can tell
Hate to say it, but looking at the numbers it appears that 4070s is being slightly undervalued for the frame rate delta. This becomes especially true when considering RT. This card straight wins vs anything under $700. AMD is struggling to keep up here, 7800XT is not enough cheaper to account for a 20% RT delta along with a 7-5% rast difference. 3080 continues to be a good value. 7800XT would be super strong option if it drops down to $450 but not before. 7900XT going down to $650 would make it the clear winner here.
@@Frashsibit Upscaling has proven this to be untrue. Even weak cards get good benefit from it. And when you go beyond that $500 price point it's less of a nice "gimmick" feature and more of a hard requirement since you are putting the money down on a expensive component. As price goes up, not having it becomes less of an excuse. AMD is significantly behind in this aspect yet they are charging like they are Nvidia. That aside, it still beats everything sub $700 currently. Nvidia has made this card just cheap enough for it to be worth it while squeezing every cent the can from it. They truly are "Team Green"
I ordered a 7800 XT, upgrading from a 5700 XT. I don't drink the fake frame Kool aid and prefer raw power at native resolution with max textures. Also at this price point I would not buy anything with less than 16 GB VRAM. I'm in Canada and the 6800 both versions are similar pricing or often more than the 7800 XT! The 4070 and the super are also priced higher. I only play single player AAA type games and older ones. I also mod my Bethesda games and in Skyrim was hitting my VRAM buffer on occasions with 600 mods running, so looking forward to Starfield modding with the extra VRAM lol.
I had bought a 4070 before Christmas but now that 4070 Super releasd im just gonna return it to Amazon. Already ordered a 4070 Super. Pairing it with a 7800X3D
@@lifemocker85 I just feel Nvidia cards will encounter fewer problems. Maybe im wrong but as a dumb first time buyer this is the impression im getting so ill spend a bit more on the card for that
your percentages just dont account for nvidias feature set tho, but im glad you mention this in the video. many comparison videos completely discount nvidias premium features which i think are more than worth the 18 percent price differential of the 4070 super
i am shopping this price range within the next two months. I'm leaning towards the 4070 super but you may have made me think about getting the 7900xt. however i would also need a new power supply if i go that route. how much is the tgp of the 7900xt you didn't mention it at the end.
I like what you've done, but... When the cards were released and reviewed they had a set of drivers that have since been updated, with changes to the FPS, power consumption, upscaling, etc (AMDs been more notable); So the scores from older cards no longer match the current score for today. You would literally have to re-review with the latest drivers for the comparison to make sense, or find an old driver to use on the new cards. As far a I know there is no one doing that. The only real value in comparing older scores is to see what the trend is and if it met the expected performance.
You are correct with the memory. The 192 bit bus means Nvidia can't do 16gb of ram. I also don't understand exactly why that is? I do know that the reason those memory nodes are there. It is because they use the same PCB for the 4070ti Super. So that PCB will have the 256 bit bus chip with 16gb of ram. Using the same PCB saves on production costs.
I think the 7900 XT is the card for me, Itll do laps around the 3060 Ti I owned. 4070 Ti Super is simply too much even at $899 honestly. 7900 XT can be had for $709 with a free game (Avatar).
Even if some games have double the fps in Ray tracing over the 7800 xt it's still at an unplayable experience. Ray tracing will only suffice with a 4090 and maybe the 4080
i rly think nvidia should start giving upgrade services. like if u bough normal 4070 then u should be able to trade that for super or ti model and the cost would be what the current price difference is or what the price difference would have been during the first purchase
How often do you buy a high end card? If you want the bells and whistles for years to come, stick a pry-bar in your wallet and get them, or run the risk of regretting it for years and deal with the extra heat generated by AMD cards.
I buy a new card/build ever 5-8 years. Once I start struggling with games on medium setting then its time for a new build. If you're obsessed about ultra maxed out graphics every year you'll be disappointed every year you have to upgrade a card. if you can handle customizing your graphic settings between visual fidelity and FPS you'll be happy. a decent PC build will last you at least 5 years minimum unless you're a real nazi for graphics... and if thats your problem you might as well buy a console PRO version so you can game at 4k and not worry about price For example, a 1080ti still holds its value to this very day, and personally I still have a 1070 and I've upgraded to a 4070s.
The rule of thumb for video cards remains the same, Skip at least 1 generation between upgrades unless you have a good reason. When building a new system, get what is best for you at the time of your build. If building but going to wait on a new graphics card, either reuse an old one or use integrated graphics (beware AMD Lane reductions for integrated graphics) in the interim.
Nevermind it's either coming Tomorrow or on Monday. Nvidia's priory shipping is just a scam. 2 days shipping says it will take 5 days. Already talked to customer service, wouldn't refund the extra money I paid for the faster shipping, told me to "wait". Welp my first and only time I hope dealing with buying from Nvidia Directly. They said they would refund me, I realized that I shouldn't have purchased 2 day shipping.
People already willing to pay $600+ for a 12gb vram and 192-bit bus, already did it. And the only thing they are getting from nvidia for their fidelity, is a price cut that hurts they card resale. Honestly, I believe people will buy easily the 4070ti super if is priced at $600, but I believe that at $800, sales are not going to be great. Same thing with the 4080 super, people willing to pay $1,000 for a 15 gb card, already did it or got a 7900xtx instead... Hopefully the sales keep low and the prices will be more reasonable next gen
Blackwell is probably gonna be release at most in Q1 2025, and might have extra memory for lower end GPU, don't waste your money on GPU that gonna be obsolete less than 2 year after release, that rtx 40 super line up is a joke
Definitely helped out, I’m running the 5700xt temporarily (in a system that I’m about to sell). I’m working on a new build (7800x3d with a 3080 FE that I already had). Only thing is I think the 3080 is on its last leg. Hopefully I can get a few more months out of it. If the 7900xt drops to $650 between now and then that’ll be the route I go.
Depends on which gpu your currently on and the price, I was on a 2080 super for 4 years and then upgraded to 4070 super for 377 dollars, it was worth it
This just goes to show how stupid reviewers are mostly. It's almost as bad as mainstream media now, they have their talking points and repeat everything the other guy says verbatim.

12 GB is plenty. This is definitely a 1440p card you won't buy this card if you plan on playing in 4k high settings unless you are one of those who want to play in 4k and sacrifice texture quality and such. In that case more power to you but I have a 2080ti with 11GB and I play in 1440p high optimized settings (every setting affecting Vram like texture quality is always at max) and I never had a game be close to use 11gb. I'm not buying a 4070super and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else as there are cards with better P/P imo. Just saying that 12GB are plenty for 99% of people in the "market" for this card
Just check the last video chapter, it's wild
Hi Vex, the 2 slots are not there for anythig to be solder onto them. Memory chips can work in 32 or 16 bit modes... and so on.
320(bit) / 20(GB RAM) = 16
256 / 8 = 32
256 / 16 = 16
192 / 6 = 32
192 / 12 = 16
...and so on. That gives you a picture of what is possible.
You can cheat a bit but then you get situation like with GTX970 where some of the VRAM works much slower than it should.
(192 / 16 = 12 so this is not viable)
Hope that helps!

You know what this format is great of summarizing reviews because most people don't have to watch 40, 50 min of content on single component
But if you are potentially about to spend 600-700 $ or £ on a graphics card shouldn't spending 40 or 50 minutes (at least) researching the product be the very thing you SHOULD be doing?

Bytesizetech explained in a recent video that in order to use >12GB with the 192 bit bus of these GPUs, the GPU should run at lower speeds or just double the 12GB to 24GB, or something like that (don't remember).

You cant exceed the 12GB as each chip needs 32bit making it 6 chips à 2GB at a 192Bit interface.
The 3+Gig ones will probably only coming with GDDR7 and RTX5000.
i feel like both companies are trying very competitively to not over compete with eachother honestly

@@thepro08man I wish AMD made their own AI upscaler that games used. My only way to get high FPS in the new ARK is with DLSS
Even then, it just meant I could only have the textures most of the way to maximum instead of max.

Since the AD104 chip, used by the 4070, 4070 Ti, and 4070 Super, has a 192-bit interface, you can only connect 6 memory chips at a time to them.
To cut costs, that PCB design is also utilized by other cards, like the 4080, and 4080 Super and the 4070 Ti Super, which use the AD103 GPU, which has a 256-bit memory interface that can have 8 GDDR6 chips connected to it, hence the 2 missing slots.

best choice you have made
Only 7% faster bc memory bus is only 192 bits. 7800XT has 4G more VRAM on a 256 bits memory bus.

Also, along with that AMD will continue to improve on the software side, FSR etc. long story short the 7800XT will improve in it's life cycle whereas the 4070S with have more issues with limited VRAM*
Unless games continue get more RT heavy.. which they are... no point in having the VRAM if you're at 1080p with medium settings😀

I got the XFX speedster Qick for $500 on the dot. Gotta love Christmas specials.
Can we stop calling upscaling software a reason to buy a $600+ graphics card?
the GPU renders an image...a better image is the entire point...
This is nice, but I can't keep giving money to Nvidia when AMD is giving me more to work with on a budget. $50-$100 still means something to the middle of the range.
Even at top of the range it means a lot, it's the difference between an 'entry' and 'premium' model of a 7900xtx.
Exactly. My guess is that manufacturers are using the same PCB for the AD104 and AD103 GPUs in order to save money.
Thank you makes me realize my choice of the regular 4070 seem like a temporary good choice with my custom new build from a friend
@@beilence that just sounds like a cope for 12gb of vram lmao

I think the argument with the older gen cards, specially nvdia ones, is how "used" is it? it was in the hectic mining gen

We should understand that GreedVidia only listens as result of boycott.
If ur planning to build a pc now, I’ll suggest waiting to see what amd’s response to nividia as pricing may change soon.

30 serie cards are all stupid
Amazing review. Been watching you since summer, can't believe you only got 54k subs. Keep up the good work
Hey guys, i currently have a 1060-6gb, i just ordered a Gigabyte RTX 4070 Super gaming oc for 719€ (msrp in france is 659€). I read the comments and i'm questioning my purchase (719€ is already a bit over my initial budget). I would like to know if i should keep the 4070 Super or if should get a 7900XT (if the prices ever drop around the low 700's in france). Have a nice day.
What resolution are you playing at? 7900 xt will be better for 3840x2160 but I think 4070 super will be better for ray tracing and 2560x1440
@@pravnav i will be playing on a 2560x1440p monitor.
@@flocoyo2399 I have RTX 4070 notSUPER on 1440p and it is far more than enough let alone your SUPER ,plus features like DLSS are game changers . Don't forget people use 2060SUPER to this day for 1440p just because excellent drivers and software .
People are angry cause of price but is not first card attacked that had been proven great. It is always same internet story.
Wow
Ask both companies to lower prices techtubers please , you guys are sending wrong message to viewers that Nvidia is solid , NO they are not , Nvidia still price gouging .
RT is still a gimmik, especially at this price point, it just is not worth it to use 99% of the time on anything lower than a 4090.
They truly are "Team Green"
should i upgrade from 3060 ti to 4070 super?
You are missing sth big, coil whine. My 6800xt is terrible in this regard. When they use more than 300w it is very likely that this problem occurs.
Im getting new pc with i5 14600kf and rtx 4070 super inno3d OC
Is it good choice?
i always appreciate this meta-analysis content, it's what i subscribed for ngl it's super valuable
Still stupid choice
@@lifemocker85 I just feel Nvidia cards will encounter fewer problems. Maybe im wrong but as a dumb first time buyer this is the impression im getting so ill spend a bit more on the card for that
Thats a good video idea (reviewing the other youtubers data) pls do it more often
your percentages just dont account for nvidias feature set tho, but im glad you mention this in the video. many comparison videos completely discount nvidias premium features which i think are more than worth the 18 percent price differential of the 4070 super
i am shopping this price range within the next two months.
7900 XT can be had for $709 with a free game (Avatar).
do you think the 7900xt will go even cheaper?
If you're obsessed about ultra maxed out graphics every year you'll be disappointed every year you have to upgrade a card.
if you can handle customizing your graphic settings between visual fidelity and FPS you'll be happy. a decent PC build will last you at least 5 years minimum unless you're a real nazi for graphics... and if thats your problem you might as well buy a console PRO version so you can game at 4k and not worry about price
For example, a 1080ti still holds its value to this very day, and personally I still have a 1070 and I've upgraded to a 4070s.
Wrong. Skip atleast 2 gens
Nice video Vex, and the skin is looking clean, congrats!
Went from a Intel Arc A770 to a 4070 super that comes tomorrow. Very excited.
They said they would refund me, I realized that I shouldn't have purchased 2 day shipping.
hows it going with that card?
People already willing to pay $600+ for a 12gb vram and 192-bit bus, already did it. And the only thing they are getting from nvidia for their fidelity, is a price cut that hurts they card resale. Honestly, I believe people will buy easily the 4070ti super if is priced at $600, but I believe that at $800, sales are not going to be great. Same thing with the 4080 super, people willing to pay $1,000 for a 15 gb card, already did it or got a 7900xtx instead... Hopefully the sales keep low and the prices will be more reasonable next gen
Overpriced junk.
Used prices are stupid high never worth the risk.
Have a new 3080Ti that last me 5 years easy before upgrading.
If the 7900xt drops to $650 between now and then that’ll be the route I go.
which should i buy rtx 4070 or rtx 4070 super? I Will upgrade new gpu but why don't buy rtx 4070 super?
Depends on which gpu your currently on and the price, I was on a 2080 super for 4 years and then upgraded to 4070 super for 377 dollars, it was worth it
This just goes to show how stupid reviewers are mostly. It's almost as bad as mainstream media now, they have their talking points and repeat everything the other guy says verbatim.
every gpu is 100$ more of msrp for me in romania. the prices haven't budged at all, i hope they will once the 4070ti super and 4080 super get released but i doubt it at least not right away and could take several weeks
At 1080p 4070 is more than enough, plus 8pin vs the new 12v connector.... Easy choice
Thanks for the meta-review, you don't see this kind of content outside of hardware forums. I find it very useful.
Wrong
10000% Wrong.
Care to elaborate?
