An Outsider's Analysis Of The Jehovah's Witness Memorial

  • On April 15th, 2022 I attended the Jehovah's Witness Memorial. I have visited these gatherings for 20+ years. Take a seat and listen as I explain my thoughts about this meeting from the perspective of someone who has never been a Jehovah's Witness.
    **Note**
At the 26:13 mark I meant to say, "Son of Aaron" instead of Adam.
At the 36:34 mark I meant to say five minutes instead of 15.

Memorial Bingo lol. I actually used to make Kingdom Bingo cards for the assemblies. It kept my little ones busy and listening for key words like "Jehovah" or "Satan." The first one to get a Bingo would nudge me and I'd go into my backpack to give them a treat.

I've been speaking with a JW man for several years, sharing the gospel of grace nearly weekly and it's hardly made a dent. I might get something to cut through the armor one week and he's forgotten about it the next. In our conversations I've mostly aimed for making a positive case about the necessity of salvation by grace, with minimal offense against the authority of the GB. After attending a JW meeting in person the other night it's really clicked for me that making a positive case for Jesus is not adequate while the mind control of the organization has unquestioning authority to suppress dissenting thoughts. I've heard it said by numerous people, but seeing it in person was an unsettling reality. Tomorrow I've decided it's time to flip through a copy of The Harp of God in our meeting, and hopefully that will get him moving.

      This may help.
In the kingdom of Watchtower, "Jehovah" is king.
In the Kingdom of God, Christ is King.
Challenge him on Watchtower's replacement theology.
Show him from the Bible that Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords.
Show him that in the Kingdom of God, Christ is King.
"Jehovah" is only god and king of Watchtower.

I would not change course. If he is still meeting with you after several years, you ARE making a dent. They just have really good poker faces. JWs usually do not tolerate meeting with people this long so I would stick with it as long as he will. You never know what the Holy Spirit is doing behind the scenes.

@@EvidenceMinistries I did end up having an in person meeting yesterday and laid out what I could from the harp of God. He did not verbally let on to being shaken by it but his body language made the internal struggle clear. It was very difficult, and I myself have been in emotional turmoil out of sympathy for the difficulty of processing the information I gave. I hope I have not made an error in judgement and that I will hear from him again next week. When attending a JW meeting on Tuesday I was introduced to a new member, an elderly and mentally handicapped man who was grateful simply to have a place to go with people so kind to ease his loneliness and answer his questions. I couldn't stand that, and perhaps wrongly decided I've not been bold enough in my conversations to properly reflect the urgency. I can't really do anything now besides pray that God works either with my actions or in spite of them.

Since my own conversion to Christ from staunch atheism in 1964 , the Lord brought me and my late husband into regular contact with JWs over the years. We developed something of a ministry to them and by the Lord’s grace managed to ‘rescue’ a few people who were studying with them. However, through several difficult life changes , we weren’t so active and my husband went to be with the Lord several years ago. Now, after all these years (I am now85) the Lord has suddenly brought a JW across my path again. They seem to be substituting postal invitations instead of doorstep visits - I presume because of Covid, and so I replied by saying I wouldn’t be accepting their ‘Bible’ study offer, but thanked the lady for her invitation. Since then we have been emailing each other regularly and our latest exchange is concerning the anointed and the great crowd, and also the accuracy (or not) of the NWT . Thank you so much for your very helpful website and videos; you are keeping me up to date with JW changes. Thank God for the internet! Please pray for ‘my’ JW lady. Many thanks and God bless you and your ministry, Eileen

Your observation about their need to touch and hold the elements was a good one. I suppose from their perspective it is a way of participating, but it is something far more serious. It is actively rejecting the command to “take…eat…drink”. The more efficient way you describe would be passive rejection. I find it interesting how they selectively apply scriptures to the other sheep by their choosing. In Romans 8, Paul is speaking of two groups only but not the two they have in mind. One walks by the Spirit and the other by the flesh. There is no third group! I wonder how they explained how that blue flower got out of that box if the blue flower was not anointed. It’s sad.

Talking about the Anointed Class, I asked him directly and to my surprise he said he is one of those. I asked him how did he find out, and he said he just knew. He said he knew it the same way people know for sure if they're male or female. Did I mention, this was quite a few years ago?

Praise God that you still have a desire to do this work.
Some things I noticed were: lots of people wearing masks; nobody partook; there was a woman literally crying behind me (mourning Jesus' death or something else?); the JW gish gallop in conversation (I had completely forgotten about it, I easily got lost); and also the token women with more makeup than a drag queen (every congregation has one for some reason, maybe it's just an italian/greek thing).
My aim was to make conversation, sow seed, but more importantly get contacts to study with. Conversation was limited but I did get a few phone numbers. One guy, an elder, was very kind and open about wanting to meet up if I had any questions; so we'll see what happens with him.
One guy I talked most with said that William Tyndale was saved according to JW's. I asked "wow, so Trinitarians can get saved?". He got a little flustered, said we don't know what Tyndale believed, and then proceeded to say how pagan the trinity is. I let him finish and said: "okay, let me grant you all that: yet, someone like Tyndale, who believed in this pagan trinity, is still considered saved?". The wife called him into the car that was ready to leave and he left. Hopefully that little pebble stays in his shoe.
Any tips on how my study should go?
Personally, I have zero interest whatsoever in going through the bible teaches book.
My thinking is to just genuinely ask questions that I have; walk through Rom 3-5, etc (and ask a lot of questions about new covenant, etc). Talk about authority of the text (2 Tim and The Word of God doing things by the authority of His Word throughout His ministry on earth, similar to dealing with mormons); and of course go through deity of Christ proof texts; and just hopefully not get lost and keep things somewhat focused. I just want to sow seed faithfully and lovingly. I want to ask more questions rather than state things as fact.
Context: spent my first year as a Christian studying with JW's and attending kingdom hall, so not in the dark about what they believe.

    • @EvidenceMinistries
      @EvidenceMinistries  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good observations. I bet the guy blinked at the Tyndale comment!
As for tips, check out my blog (blog*dot*evidenceministries*dot*org and look at the top bar where you see two links to conversations. That is how I encourage people to study. I understand not wanting to go through the Bible Teach book, but if there is no structure, other than asking questions, then the study may not last very long. It will most likely develop into a game of bible ping-pong. Whoever knows the most verses wins.

Id like to hear your comments on first song they sang, “A Special Posession.” An outsider would think it pretty good, assuming that it was speaking about all believers, but no, the song is about the anointed only. JWs have two ideas of the rapture. The first was in the spring of 1918 after Jesus' parousia when they were resurrected from the dead as spirits. The second is right before Armageddon when the rest of the anointed are "taken" sort of like the stories of Peter being swept away from god and not necessarily "dying" like Elijah and maybe even Moses so they won't die but will be "changed" in the "twinkling of an eye" probably right before Armageddon or maybe a little sooner, however long the tribulation lasts. They've recently commented on some witnesses being concerned that the anointed won't be around during the tribulation and the gb member said "ehhh don't worry about that, Jehovah will take care of you." Hopefully that clears up that thing the speaker said.

That sounds really strange. I was born and raised in witnesses in the Northeast of North America, and here things are actually quite different. It's expected and normal for you to be looking up scriptures, although it got harder to tell with the tablets and electronics what exactly people are doing. But it was not unusual for people to be taking notes. Although it was usually only the sisters, of course in the congregation I was in. Usually the brothers were busy doing stuff. But then again, I also spent a long time using nothing but the Bible in the ministry and I never got spoken to about it. Even though after I left I learned we were not supposed to, and pretty much everyone including another congregations knew that I researched all kinds of outside material and would openly talk about it. So I think there are large cultural differences between witnesses. Why did missionary work in Central America? I found the Latin congregations to be very different than the northern ones as far as warmth and hospitality.

The reason jdubs say you have to be anointed to go to heaven is because you have to be spirit filled. How will you be transformed in the blink of an eye if you don't have a spiritual connection? Also the reason the governing body consider themselves the faithful slave is to consolidate power into the hands of a few.

  • @jimmmmy55

In minute 14:45 you mention songs 25 which is a subtle worship to the Governing Body (as songs 51) because they are the only anointed left according to Watchtower 1982 February 15 page 30 paragraph 15.
"When we consider how Jehovah has been dealing with his people during the 'harvest period', it seems EVIDENT that the heavenly calling in GENERAL wad COMPLETED about the year 1935..."
Is weird how the JW doesn't realize they are singing praises to men (or maybe they do) since they are taught NOT to Praise Jesus

    • @jimmmmy55
      @jimmmmy55 ปีที่แล้ว

@@EvidenceMinistries I am trying to find how they will justify to be anointed after the 1935 fill-up theory.
The Watchtower has been mining the concept of the anointed by suggesting the ones claiming to be anointed could be suffering from mental illness, while the Governing Body change the composition of the Faithful and discrete Slave in July 15, 2013 page 26, becoming the *only* official anointed ones among the members of JW.
I am pointing out the possibility of their claiming to be anointed because of last minute unfaithful anointed positions being left over in the 144K composition. It is a conspiracy theory I still need more evidence to prove, but advise to be vigilant about it, in regards to recent developments.

To take the bread and wine of Christ means your belief lies in Him as Savior. He has sacrificed His flesh and blood upon which He made a covenant between Him and those who believe in Him. To take the emblems that represent His sacrifice in your hand and then pass them along is the act of REJECTION. In the minds of the JW's attending this event they do not see this as the Luciferian ritual, the blood sacrifice of Christ rejected, that it is. Nor, do they recognize it as the act of blasphemy that it is. So, suggesting that a Christian go to join the JW's in rejecting the blood of Christ is putting guilt on their heads unless they partake.

@John S. Thank you. The "hospital for sinners" notion about what church actually is - do you know where that comes from? It gets mentioned often. It sounds kind of nice. I think it was coined by "Dear Abby" the old syndication advice columnist. Personally, I believe it is not a biblical idea defining what church is. The "called out" ones is what church is about. Yes, church should be welcoming to people. But, "hospital for sinners", I think that's an idea about church which is akin to what we were talking about just now, come and hang out just as you are without being made new. Unbelievers are not banging down the doors to come in. What do you think about that? I think church can be a place for *good* spiritual health and not one pandering to remaining as we were, "such WERE some of you".

THE BIBLE teaches that Jesus was MADE As Lord and Christ and as Son (ACTS 2:36, Prov 8, HEB 1:5), CREATED/PRODUCED/INSTALLED (Prov 8) , COME INTO BEING/MADE (Mat 21:42 - egeneto) and GIVEN LIFE by the Father - John 5:26 and it uses TODAY (Heb 1:5), and uses future tenses and is a prophecy in Isa 9:6 (Isa 9:6, - WILL BE) . If you are called MADE AND CREATED AND GIVEN LIFE, and NEVER CALLED in the BIBLE as Creator or Maker , then you are A CREATION. ALL FROM THE BIBLE
From the Lord was this (this is referring to the chief cornerstone who is Jesus) , the word WAS is egeneto (made or came into being) - Matthew 21:42 and the exact Greek word used in John 1:3 - MADE, egeneto (came into being) - JESUS WAS MADE/CAME INTO BEING FROM THE FATHER , yes, Jesus was MADE/CREATED!, See also Acts 2:36, Heb 1:5, 1 john 5
Isa 9:6 the word Prince in the Prince of Peace means PATRON ANGEL also Leader. WHO IS the ONE LEADER that we have? Jesus. Now, that same exact Hebrew word was used for Daniel 12:1 which is used for Michael the Archangel. So are you saying there are MANY LEADERS now?
JESUS IS Lord! His Lordship was MADE - See Acts 2. Who is the Sovereign Lord? He is different from Jesus as mentioned in Acts 4:24, 26, 30
There is no term God of gods or Creator or Maker used for Jesus.Acts 4:24 - who is NOT Jesus and who is called Sovereign Lord - "one accord to God and said: “Sovereign Lord, you are the One who made the heaven and the earth " Who is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from Jesus who is the Anointed and the Sovereign Lord's SERVANT as Acts 4:30 mentioned "through the name of YOUR holy servant Jesus.”" Acts 4:26 - one against Jehovah and against his ANOINTED one.
GOD IS NOT A LITERAL TORTURER. GOD is LOVE. He only gives eternal life to those who exercise faith in him and his Son (John 3:16, John 14:1) and NOT TO WICKED people. The Wicked will VANISH AND WILL BE NO MORE. Psalms 37:20
How many is Jehovah? Trinitarians say there are THREE Jehovah. What does the Bible say? There is ONE JEHOVAH and NOT THREE JEHOVAH. Deut 6:4. - “Listen, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah
WHO IS THE STAR IN NUMBERS 24:17? That is Jesus. It is the same Hebrew word used in Job 38:7 for the morning stars. So as Jesus is called THE BRIGHT morning star (REV 22:16) so also are the other morning stars(angels). So Jesus is the CHIEF Angel with the archangel's voice (1 Thes 4:16). Jesus is called Prince of Peace in Isa 9:6 and the original Hebrew word for Prince means PATRON ANGEL which is the same Hebrew Word used for Michael the archangel in Daniel.
Jesus is the High Priest and the High Priest is NOT GOD himself.
GOD DOES NOT WORSHIP HIMSELF : John 4:22 -You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, because salvation begins with the Jews.
Jesus Included himself IN WORSHIPPING THE FATHER. ONLY A CREATION WILL WORSHIP GOD.
If the holy Spirit is a PERSON then now you have MANY PERSONS IN ONE GOD. REV 5:6 - seven eyes, and the eyes mean the seven spirits of God.SO NOW YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL SEVEN PERSONS IN GOD.
Who is the cause of Salvation? Both GOD and the lamb are saviors, Rev 7:9-10, even Jesus needed to be saved by the Father from death as the Father is the SOURCE OF LIFE AND SALVATION , Hebrews 5:7 & John 5:26 - THE FATHER GAVE THE SON LIFE.
Does the Bible called Jesus MADE AND BORN? Yes! JESUS is the Messiah and a CREATION BY GOD! He is called “BORN OF/FROM GOD”. (1 JOHN 5:18) Hebrews 1:5 showed that Jesus was MADE/BORN (orig Greek-gennaw). Also it says "he will become my son" Notice, FUTURE TENSE, WILL, so before that the SON DID NOT EXIST. If you are BORN AND MADE then you are a creation. , Hebrews 1:5 mentions I WILL BECOME HIS FATHER, so Jesus relationship with the Father has a BEGINNING, When ? it was TODAY. TODAY implies a beginning.
When did Jesus become SON? Even before Jesus became human he is called SON , Prov 30:4
    Was Jesus GIVEN LIFE?
He is called the firstborn and beginning of the CREATION BY GOD (COL 1, Revelation ) Also john 5:26 mentions that the FATHER GAVE JESUS, THE SON, with LIFE. If Jesus was given LIFE OR EVEN ETERNAL LIFE, then Jesus does not have life or eternal life before those were given to him. Notice, the Father was NOT given life.
JESUS was MADE LORD (ACTS 2:36).JOHN 6:57 - Jesus Said “ I LIVE BEC OF THE FATHER” SO JESUS’ LIFE was dependent on the Father and his SOURCE OF LIFE/Eternal Life IS THE FATHER as John 5:26 states as well. 1john 5:1 - Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born from God,+ and everyone who loves the one who caused to be born loves him who has been born from that one . who is this that HAS BEEN BORN from that one? That is Jesus! 1 John 5:18 - Jesus is called BORN FROM GOD JESUS IS BORN FROM GOD, 1 JOHN 5:18 - We know that everyone who has been born from God does not practice sin, but the one born from God* watches him, and the wicked one cannot take hold of him . WHO is the ONE BORN FROM GOD that watches us and protects us and who does not sin? JESUS CHRIST!
    HAS ANYONE SEEN GOD?
NO MAN HAS SEEN GOD and if they see GOD's face THEY WILL DIE. Jesus was seen by many and they didn't DIE so Jesus Is Not The Almighty God. Jesus is called SON even before coming to earth as human. Exo 33:20 states "“You cannot see my face, for no man can see me and live.”" NO MAN CAN SEE ME, notice ME , you think ME IS NOT LITERAL? IT IS LITERAL "ME" WHO IS GOD.
    GOD IS FROM FOREVER:
John 1:1 mentions the WORD WAS IN THE BEGINNING, so Jesus was LIMITED "IN THE BEGINNING" Unlike GOD who is FROM FOREVER (Psalms 90:2).

Judas was at the table. You are so wrong. That is why the bible teaches us to examine ourselves before we partake, so that we don't take of it flippintly, or irreverently. It has nothing to do with being one of the 144,000. Your JW master, the WT, is the one telling you all this garbage. I've come across you before, and I am surprised you are still trolling these sites. YOur elders must not know.

@@Mr.DC3.1914 NO, you are wrong. Jesus said that the one who will betray him was at the table with him. The Bible doesn't say he left first. All of the accounts show this. And the Bible doesn't teach that the wicked SHOULD partake, but Judas did, and he also paid for it dearly.

@@Mr.DC3.1914 The bible doesn't make any distinctions in classes of Christians, the WT does. The Bibel doesn't make any distinctions about "which" Christians should partake, the WT does. The Bible tells us that whoever does NOT partake, has no life in them. Your biblical knowledge is based wholly on WT teaching. The Bible teaches that EVERYONE who is in the New Covenant will rule and reign with Him forever. You keep looking at this as if there is some sort of "government" like we have today. That is not so, we will be in a Kingdom, not a government as you say.
You need to run from the WT so you don't die in your sins. Your arguments are weak and have no substance; it's all based on made-up WT teaching. I feel bad for you that you are so hard-hearted and blind to the Truth that is in Jesus.
by the way, it isn't "in union with". That is also the WT adding words to the text that shouldn't be there.
