  • Polygamy has been historically and doctrinally opposed by one major religion: Christianity. And in this opposition it demonstrates what it mean to truly value women.

Did David have one wife? He did. He didn't have only one wife, but there is no such restriction as "only one wife".

The Bible doesn't prohibit the king from having multiple wives, rather "multiplying wives". There's a difference in adding a multiplying. He was also not to multiply horese. Does that mean the king couldn't have two horses?

Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart" [contextual comment: this was God talking in regards to taking a second wife]
    -Genesis 20:6
God literally said to Abimilek that taking a second wife would be an act of integrity. Nobody in the Church has faced this fact or even tried to address it, and I bet you will not either.

Why would God, who cannot change, regulate polygyny and provide protections for women involved? Please study polygyny in the Bible thoroughly with a clear mind....not doctrine-colored glasses

4:05 where is the scripture stating in either the old OR new testament that polygamy is an “atrocious sin?” i don’t necessarily agree with it, but if we don’t have scripture references denouncing it - how can we say that it’s wrong?
i genuinely do come from a place of wanting to understand if this is wrong or not, but without a reference stating otherwise… i don’t see how it could be considered a “sin.”

    • @FreeBornChurch

That is a good question. There are a couple of points I invite you to consider:
First, the idea that sin is defined by the Bible is wrong. There are many sins that are not mentioned in the Bible. For example, the Bible doesn't condemn slavery, abortion, or drug abuse. And it obviously doesn't name things that are sin to specific individuals, such as eating meat, dancing, and gambling; sins against the conscience. Jesus reproved the pedantic legalist approach that strained out gnats but swallowed camels. ("You heard it said of old... but I say...") Hence the New Testament expands our understanding of sin explaining that sin is knowing good and not doing it as well as acting outside the boundaries of Christian faith. So sin is much broader than the few samplings it provides, and this is why James exhorts us to live as those that would be judged by the law of liberty, not the law graven in tablets.
Second, the Bible does condemn polygamy. Jesus taught that marriage must be in accordance to God's original design of one man and one woman for life (Mark 10). He applied this directly to divorce, but the principle that invalidates divorce also applies to polygamy, same-sex, and every other divergent union. And Paul echos this in his writing about marriage saying that if a person cannot be married to another so long as the previous spouse is alive, else they are an adulterer (Romans 7).
Third, marriage is not a human innovation that must comply with the negative requirements of God's righteousness. In other words, everything not expressly forbidden is permitted. Rather it is a sacred covenant and must comply with the positive design of God. Whatever is not prescribed is forbidden. So marriage between more than one man and one woman for life is forbidden. It is a binding, exclusive covenant, bringing anyone else into that covenant breaks the covenant.

Plural marriage does not disqualify either the husband or wives from ministry, that is not the original meaning of the scripture. We need to be careful with English translations.

Nowhere in the Bible does God or Jesus condemn polygamy. There is actually one very where God told a man that He gave the man his master's WIVES. Oh and if the guy had wanted more God would have given him more. Doesn't sound like polygamy is a sin.
That is only if God's word is the same today as it was and as it will be. That is true right?

Hello brother. I disagree with almost everything you said in this video. If i were to prove you wrong by demonstrating that the new testament is Judaic and CLEARLY supports polygyny would you believe and teach polygamy? I ask this because so many people do not want to believe the truth. Dialogue starts out civil but becomes toxic the more i prove that the WHOLE bible is pro-polygamy. So, please tell me whether or not you will repent, believe and defend the truth if i present good proof of it.

@@Phone-vj8wp one should still follow monogamy because sexual morality is all about having a stable society. polygyny recreate a system rules for thee not for me feeling. The poor often feel the elite put rules in places ensure they get all good stuff and keep the poor, poor There for the poor feel the law only mint to keep them down will not follow them. this leads to higher violence and polygyny sexually rewards violence and sin. Those who break the law and steal are able to buy wives and reproduce. the reason being most polygynous societies have arranged marriage system. Rome and Greece out law polygamy ensure the law as fair for everyone. That way all men would would vote. This cause Rome and Athens economies to be powerful as well because monogamy increase economic out put 150 percent. Since men not longer aggressive towards each other in Athens and put all their energy into getting more mates, they focused more intellectual pursuits. One of the reason why rome declined was it stop following monogamy.

I agree with you brother. I lived polygamy for 22 years. I was one of five, and although I felt like my husband loved me sometimes, I knew that I was never that important to him.
I agree with what you said, because I have found the scriptures in the bible that declare what you said. Dueteronomy 17:17, 1 Timothy 3:2, 12, Titus 1:6, Leviticus 18, Matthew 19:4-6.
I no longer live polygamy today, because God's true word tells me not to and that it is a sin.
My chains are gone. I've been set free. All because the goodness of God.
