Transforming A Rusty Hatchet With Custom Etching!

  • In this weeks video, I'm restoring an antique rusty hatchet. I bought it at an online auction for $10. The axe head was mounted backwards and it sat loosely on the handle. The rust was removed with electrolysis which is a very effective method of rust removal. For this restoration, I went for a mirror finish for the axe head. I almost regretted it as I spent too many hours sanding and polishing the head. But the amazing end result made it worth the effort.
Besides restoring the axe I made it custom by etching the head. I went for a scene from the horror movie The Shining where Jack Nicholson breaks the door with an axe and says the famous phrase "Here's Johnny". This theme was suggested by a friend of mine and I must say that It's very appropriate :)
Oh, and it's crazy sharp! Stick to the end for a demonstration :)
I had so much fun with this project and I hope that you enjoy watching it.

Suggestion: change the title of the video to "Here's Johnny Axe Restoration" see if the views increase. Just an idea 🙂

Awesome, that looks beautiful! Amazing filming and editing as usual. Loved the shots of the blade sharpening.
You've got the same vinyl cutter as me! Silhouette Cameo 4 right? I only just bought mine a month ago, had wanted one for a while. 😃

Let me start to say you did a great job on the axe, and i love the Shining homage - it is one of my absolute favorite movies, and I love the book too! 😍😍😍
That said, you say it is youtube's algorithms that messes up and that's why you do not get the views you deserve on your videos, but have you considered that people maybe has seen so many restoration videos of hatches/axes - and whatnot - that they might skip a few because they has seen so many?
It's like when a restoration channel do a resto of an object and it gets a lot of views, it then spreads like rings in the water, and all the other resto channels do the same restoration, and that is getting old pretty fast. Try to find some unique items to restore, something you don't see on all the other channels, and I'm convinced you'll get a lot more views and subscribers. 😊

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it. I can see in the analytics that the video isn't exposed. It's not that people choose to skip, they don't even get the recommendation. Cheers!

Wow! Great restoration video! My favorite editing part was the wedge-ring setting with no hammer strikes shown. Great job ALL around!

Great video, not sure why your not getting more views. I actully came here from a My mechanics video because you commented on his scooter video, so i thought I would check out your channel. (the youtube rabbit hole we go down sometimes, LOL) nice video and nice work. I subscribed! It took me years to grow my little channel. Then watched a Casey Niestat video where he talked about the frequency of videos produced. I put a video out of some kind every couple weeks for about 6 months and tripled my subs and hits. It keeps you in the algorithm. This channel will take off at some point. Nice axe!
