  • I start the strip down on the McCormick Deering Regular by removing the cylinder head.
Hello, I'm Lance (aka Bundy Bear), and doing these videos is my hobby. I do own Queensland Tractor Spares in Australia where I sell parts and offer technical advice to customers.
Parts seen in our videos can be purchased from www.queenslandtractorspares.co...
We have a lot more than we can offer on our web site available to us and in our store. If you don't see what you would like please email info@queenslandtractorspares.com.au or call 1300 850 097 and we will help where we can.
I do try and help with technical advice at bundybearsshed@gmail.com if you have a question or are having trouble with your project.

i had a 1924 McCormick Deering 10-20. Easiest starting crank engine i've even owned. i used to to disc and drag my 1/2 acre garden as late as 2018 just to say i am still using an 94 year old tractor. It was a sweetheart. It is still being used at a kids' amusement park.

To keep the engine at operating temp a wheat bag was often hung across the radiator about halfway

Yes I have seen that, in a workshop we would fit sone cardboard in front of the radiator to heat them up quickly.

They must have thought those engines were racey back in the day coming with factory head studs. :-)

They were probably state of the art at the time

Lance only if you have time. I am curious about that circlip, I know it holds things in place, however is that its only purpose or is it specifically for timing as well. Secondly does it matter that my inspection port is on the opposite side. You've videos have certainly given me confidence to tackle things I never would before, this injection pump being among them. Many have also confirmed that my wing and a prayer approach to fixing some of the rest of the tractor have been a little more accurate than I thought (albeit that mine is an old Ford 4100, never the less a very handy machine), so it certainly was comforting to know that some of them were on the right track. I might also add that your videos have given me hours of great ........ well I suppose entertainment and learning is one way of putting it. ( I have some medical issues and cannot work all the time), so they are very much appreciated. Until I came looking when I need parts a little while ago, I was unaware you Guys even existed. I do now and can tell you, so will everyone else I know down my way. My most recent purchase was a kit for the Injector pump I am working on and was indeed impressed when it arrived so promptly. ( I am down around the Esk area). So thank you for your excellent service and and your extra commitment to making these videos. It is very much appreciated by me for sure, and judging by the many comments on your many videos, by so many others. Cheers and take care.

G Day Brian, The circlip does space the cam track but wherever the plate is to check the timing eg left or right it works the same. It turns out mine was put in backwards but it didnt seem to matter.

Great video. 1929 engineering. Neat. How often would you put oil in for those oiler felts, do you think Lance.

Thank you Lance for another intresting video on the very old engine. Are those water rocks in the cooling system due to hard water and would you normally expecting these?

No I believe some kids may have been playing at some time.

I was expecting the head to be difficult to get off with those long studs. How easy was that? A rough old bushie trick to make up for the lack of a thermostat to get it hot enough to vaporise the kero, or just kids being buggers. Those cups sticking above the rocker cover are probably to put a bit of petrol down to help starting. My W30 has cups with spring loaded caps but are of limited use. May be handy in cold climates though. Jeff

I havent checked the head out but yes a priming cup may well be the go. We are looking for parts before we go much further.
