Yes you work correct. Partly your abdominal muscles are responsible. It is okay if the elbows slip a bit towards the sides. Pay attention to your palms of the hands, then shift awareness up towards the elbows - trying to keep them together as much as possible - and come into the pose as far as you prefer.

Oh, thank you for such clear instructions. I've been trying to do this pose for some time already, but never felt comfortable. As I don't have a teacher at this moment, your video will be very helpfull.
    Thank you!

If you straightened your arms and held yourself in the same horizontal position supported only by the palms of your hands you would be doing a Plance. Starting with bent arms and support by the elbows like this would probably be good practice to build the core strength and balance to work up towards a full Plance. Thank you for the video.

    Tx 4 your tips.
kakasana was a good training, to strengthen wrists.
To keep elbows tight with a belt is also very useful, to progress with the pose.

A good position to develop the strength for mayurasana is to do chaturanga dandasana with your feet on the wall. You can try a similar position by walking your feet up the wall with your hands on the floor, then starting to bend the elbows and bring the chest forward: the elbows stay tight _inward_, like in chaturanga. I've also got a pretty useful mayurasana video.

If you have some difficulty in plank position try to focus on the fingers and the palms of the hand, how the spread out on your mat. Then feel the contact with the mat and the toes, pressing the heels back and away from you. Finally, elongate all the way from the heels to the top of the head in one straight line, looking down.

Is there a preparatory pose for mayurasana ?
To strengthen wrists : perhaps kakasana ?
I can do the steps 1 and 2, but with arms a bit stretched, so the contact with the belly isn't perfect.
Impossible to stay closer of the ground. Or perhaps i have to move forward, after lifting the head, to release the tension upon the wrists ?

This yoga book takes you step by step through postures, helping you to understand how you get into the posture as well as your alignment once in the posture. It has plenty of pictures as well, so you don`t have to depend on the descriptions, although the descriptions are well written. It is great for people who practice at home and want to understand how each *Yoga Fitness Perfecta Solution* pose should flow. So, search it on google and find out where you can get a copy.

Dude, that's a entry level exercise for breakdance, dafuq are you doing with your life?! This shit is easy... Too easy for a real man... Meh..
Source: Me. I did that in 6th grade to warm up for Helicopter..
And we used to trick each other by pushing unexpectably from back, to see how ~ready~ is someone when he falls on his hands, whoever fell down totally, on his body, without holding on hands 1st after the push, eg this video, would have to do more pushups, workout etc..
    Talk about balance and readiness..
By this logic i already mastered yoga fuck it :D
