Macrobid (nitrofurantoin) is an antibiotic primarily used to treat and prevent uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs). [Macrobid] Nitrofurantoin is primarily active against the bacteria causing lower UTIs, such as E. coli. its efficacy against other bacteria that might cause upper UTIs (pyelonephritis or kidney infections) isn't as strong. it doesn't achieve good tissue concentrations in the kidneys, making it less effective for treating kidney infections.

Mine were causing the most severe pain in the front. Yes it did hurt in the back also but worst in the front. Why is that? Second, how do you get infection in one kidney and not the other?
Mild pain in kidney for a long time and then blood in urine (fresh blood at the end of urinating process). - went to doctor and after urine and blood test and ultrasound found no issue. Mild paid still persistent and after three years fresh bleeding after urination returned. Did the first doctor missed the infection? Is if different issue. By the way kidney pain started after a UTI several years back that I took antibiotics for but I feel it did not kill the bacteria completely as the kidney started having mild pain afterwards. Please advice - shall I take Antibiotics course for 14 days and if that does not fix the issue then look for other options? Is it not infection but something else?
Hello doc please I need your help, I have lower back pain but not so hard under the ribs close to spine. First it was just on the right side but 2 days ago it started on the left. It is small pain but it iritates me. Sometimes it is on right, sometimes on left but never in the same time on both sides. I urinate normall no pain, I have no others symptoms. Could this be something with kidneys?
If you go to the er make sure they don't dismiss you as a muscle ache. Get the tests done asks for scans go early in the morning if possible. Talk to doctors and avoid rookie Physician assistants.
I did that yesterday and the young idiot doctor wouldn't do scans. He dismissed me as being emotionally disturbed. Can't except much from a doctor named Kevin McDonkey !

Mine came from strep and MacroBid won’t do a thing for the strep if it’s spread to the kidneys

One kidney might become infected and not the other due to reasons such as obstruction (e.g., a kidney stone in one ureter), structural abnormalitie]
