Great information. My late husband had kidney disease and eventual kidney failure due to diabetes. He was on dialysis, it was not fun for him. So yes! take care of your kidneys!

Wow! This video has connected all the dots. My sister has lived with low kidney function for most of her life after she had one removed. I thank you for this valuable information!

I really appreciate these “kidney oriented” videos, as I do have kidney disease. In fact, I just had a visit to my nephrologist last week. Both he and your guest have really helped me understand where I am with mine. In retrospect, I wish that my primary docs in the past had been more specific about what I could have done to prevent it, but perhaps they didn’t realize that what I was doing, primarily long term nsaid use for chronic back and joint pain management, was so adversely affecting my kidneys. At this point, I’m in the “let’s don’t let it progress further” modality, and so far, over the last year, that seems to be working.
Anyway, thanks for all your videos. I regularly recommend them to my friends and acquaintances, because I think they’re really helpful. Unfortunately, not all “Internet docs” are as helpful-and some of the comments to your videos are really unhelpful too! But that’s the way of the world these days, I guess.

Perfect timing! My creatinine has been elevated last 2 tests, & gfr is low. Dr. felt it was due to dehydration but I drink at least a litre of water per day. On BP & cholesterol meds, no diabetes, & have some of the other non- descript symptoms. Thank you for this info!

Love it when you explain the test results like that. I get misc tests as I get older and never get told what they mean, just to accept the works its not or is of concern.

Dr Sehault on Medcram channel says the people with a lower sodium blood level thats still within safe limits have an increased mortality rate. I wasn't sure if people with salt restrictions have heart disease so theyre more likely to live shorter lives anyway. My sodium is lower in the safe zone and i do eat some salty foods. I drink more water than average and my gfr is 90+.

Doesn't _creatine_ break down to _creatinine_ and regular exercise result in elevated figures? This makes the eGFR moot does it not? I read that Cystatin C is a better measure.

Some factors that can lead to higher creatinine levels (making your eGFR number appear lower than it might really be) include:
Eating large amounts of cooked meats.
      Taking creatine supplements.
      Recent high intensity exercise.
High muscle mass (very muscular body frame, bodybuilder
