Thank you very much for this video! I am getting ready to install an aftermarket radio in my 2006 Xterra and your video certainly is helpful. I'm confident that I can now avoid some of the pitfalls of ignorance by having watched you do it first. Thanks!
I know I'm late to the party but am currently working on upgrading my 2008 Xterra. Your videos have saved me a ton of money! Can you do a short on how to remove the lower bezel under the radio so I can install a usb charging outlet near the 12v port? Im afraid i might break it and they are hard to replace now. Thanks and appreciate all the good work on the videos. Really has helped me
Brother, I've been watching your work since day one! I doubt that I'd ever do any full "upgrades" of my Xterra (though, you never know), but, Lord, I've learned so much from your work, and I'm thankful to you!! You are AWESOME! 😉🤩
@@Rythecarguy , count on it! ... By the by, I confirmed that you are right, on another vid, where you take people through the removal of the head unit, that the center trim will crumble as being removed, even if you are careful (perhaps, on some of the older Xterra's that get hammered with sun light, like down here in Texas!) Like your vehicle, I had to order a replacement earlier this week!😃 Be well!
I’m having trouble clipping the dash back in. I’m using the same radio install kit I had in before. I can either clip the top or the bottom of the center dash. Not sure if you have come across this issue or have a trick. Thanks for the videos!
Awesome tutorial but quick question: Did you have to purchase a custom mount for your aftermarket stereo in order for it to properly fit, or were the metal mounts stock with the vehicle? I just bought an Xterra and I want to know if I need a mount before I install my next stereo. Thanks!
hello man, thanks for the video...the same happened to me with the plastic surrounding the radio...it just blew up when I pulled it out .... where did you find/purchase the plastic replacement part?? I just can't find it... and my dash looks horrible now...thanks for the help
I didn't see whether the wires to the radio itself were exact for the aftermarket radio, or whether adjustments had to be made, other than the ground wire. Thanks!
Hey @Ry the car guy, or anyone please help, whats the name of piece his taking off? I broke mine and need to replace it. 1:10 THANK YOU! And where can i find a replacement part
The manual says you should. I am always lazy and don’t do it. If you don’t you might have to rest the airbag light. Taking out the center console might trigger it because you need to unplug the airbag light.
As always, thanks for the simple, informative video. When I reconnected my airbag light in the plastic stereo surround, the red airbag light in my gauge cluster came on and began flashing. Any thoughts/ideas as to how to reset it, or turn it off? Or will I need to go to the Stealership? Thanks in advance.
Hey Ry! Im looking to upgrade my X. I wanna put a screen in there. I see your other videos, but some of them are unavailable now. Im looking for the cheapest option that just features a screen and apple car play connectivity. Do you know of any others that fit 08 Xterra? Or are they pretty universal
Hello, Ryan I just bought an aftermarket stereo for my 2011 Xterra. I had a question about the wire harness. I bought a harness that’s designed for my truck. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to hook it up to you. The new harness hooks up to the existing plug coming out of the dash? Then I connect the new harness to the existing harness that connects to the back of the new radio? I thought you had a video of this, showed even the installation of the microphone and CarPlay USB wire. I think I just hurt my brain. If you can clarify this for me, I would be eternally grateful.
Hey Andy. Yes, the harness you bought for your vehicle is the one you plug into the existing plug from your vehicle. The open wires on that harness get connected to the harness for the radio. Here is the video you might be referring to. Check it out. th-cam.com/video/ILBvpieZzfs/w-d-xo.html
Just out of curiosity while you have all that apart could someone replace the climate control panel with a newer updated one. For example is it possible to say put a control panel from a 2010 xterra into a 2008 xterra. Thanks just curious

Just purchased an 08 Xterra S to replace my 07 SE. The SE has the factory Rockford Fosgate system in it. I want to cannibalize the 07 and steal the stereo to put in the 08. Has anyone tried removing the stereo and all of it's components? Also are all of the Xterras pre wired for the subwoofer that comes with the Rockford Fosgate system?

I installed same pioneer stereo on my 06 nissan xterra without fosgate system but i do not get any sound on the rear speakers , does any body know what to do? let me know Thanks
Just want to say that your videos are great. was going to do the spark plugs myself but decided to have them done by a professional. I have 2 questions for you. I have a 2005 exterra with a Rockford Fosgate system in it and want to replace it with a newer system. have looked around and would cost me close to $600 to have someone do it for me. I look at systems between $100 to $200 that would do just fine for me. My concern is bypassing the amp that came it. Second question is my oil gauge runs high on the engine is on. I have no engine issues or oil linking. I figure I need to replace the oil sensor . Any help would be greatly apprenticed. Thank you and good up the great work you do
+Ravie Jaipal I have a video on the diff. I deal with almost all of the fluids in the truck is all my videos. The only fluids I have not mentioned are brake and steering.
I have an 2008 xterra the radio powers up but no sound from the speakers..i think the amp under the drivers seat is toast...have you had any experience with this problem?
this is a pioneer X720BT. Honestly I love it. it's just about the cheapest double din radio with Bluetooth and hands free features. It really helps bring the xterra into the 21st century.
+Christian Troy once everything is assembled you can try pulling your negative battery cable, waiting a little while and then putting it back on. All that stuff should do a self check when you put he power back on.

The easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to eek out more MPG would be to make it easier for air to get into the motor and exhaust to get out. you could get a "cold air" intake or "RAM air" intake or upgrade your exhaust system. I live in a city so a ram or cold air intake would not be a problem. However if you drive a lot of dusty roads you may want to invest in exhaust or just make sure you get a really good filter for whatever intake you buy. Also if you live in an area with strict emissions policies make sure if you get a new exhaust that it adheres to any emissions regulations.
Okay so this is two years late but I do have a warning/suggestion. If you are getting a faint to moderate whine from the engine when you accelerate, and that is more pronounced when the engine is cold, you may have worn-out timing chain guides which causes the timing chain to be a bit slack and can impact valve timing. If the guides are not replaced, they will eventually wear down to the point where they break the chain. Since the Nissan V6 is an interference engine (valves and pistons occupy the same space at different times), a timing chain break while the engine is running is a catastrophic (expensive) failure. Anyway, we found that after the new timing chain and guides, the engine had considerably more zip and mileage went up, especially on the freeway. This timing chain guide problem can occur early in some vehicles (under 100,000 miles). Ours did not manifest itself with noise (which I mistook for an alternator starting to have problems) until about 175,000 miles and we did not get it fixed until we learned of this specific Nissan issue until 194,000. These are great engines with a slight design flaw (now corrected with the new parts).
