Pretty much two entities kept buying from each other, making it look like a lot of activity was going on. Billionaire A bought from Billionaire B, then B bought back from A with the same money. A then bought from B. Rinse, repeat.
People see the activity, think it’s legit. Put money in, value increases. Billionaire stops buying, price drops. People get scared, take money out, price tanks.

Seeing FTX crumbles back into thin air is quite a nice sight not gonna lie. They put ads in fortune cookies trying to implicitly imply that money grows not on trees but on their virtually degenerate platform.
Been saying for over a decade crypto is a scam. Unless you buy low then sell high. But if you keep your crypto money, you're only asking to lose whatever you invested in it.
Yeah, "crypto" is a scam. But if you're smart, you just buy bitcoin and hold onto it.
Also, if you buy crypto on an exchange and leave it there, then you don't actually own it. That's the entire problem with everyone who had money on FTX. They'd all be fine had they withdrawn it from the exchange and kept it in their own possession.

I would say most crypto is just gambling. More so than traditional investments just because of the inherent nature of crypto not being centralized. It’s the new financial frontier and the scammers and thieves will be the majority/norm and not the exception

'Banks' aren't the crime, kiting checks is the crime. 'Crypto' wasn't the problem, this guy using two companies to essentially kite the crypto companies' value was the problem.
The basic idea behind crypto is sound, even more solid in some ways than paper money. Scams are being run with it against people who don't understand what they're doing, but that's scamming. You can run scams within the crypto value itself as well, but it's still the scam that is the problem, not the idea of cryptocurrency.
Execute all of the scammers with haste. You'll be amazed how fast all of crypto would solidify and become better than almost all countries' paper dollars if anyone scamming with it was executed in short order.
The problem is in lack of consequences for these criminals, it isn't 'crypto is inherently criminal'.
Of course most of the people who could fix this have no real incentive to do so.

Whether you love him or hate him, Richard Heart has been warning people for years about this very thing They call him a scammer and then those very same people entice you all into platforms like Celsius, Luna, Ftx and Blockfi to name just a few and you all eventually get rekt. It's sad because many more people, once again, will lose their life savings which has a huge roll on effect in all areas of their lives. I've been in crypto since 2010 and lost many times in various platforms until I understood his advice. Not your keys, not your coins - period.

Jesus. I lost roughly 28k practically overnight during the 2020 market crash. I'd probably have a stroke, a heart attack, an aneurysm, a mental breakdown, and be indicted for murder (all in the same day) if I lost anything north of 5 figures. It sucks that this happened but I predicted this would happen earlier this year. I’m an options trader, and I chart crypto for fun. I noticed that FTX coin traded in a extremely bearish pattern referred to as a “triple top” on the weekly chart. What that signaled is that whomever was planning to short this for years. Everything Sam said “sounded” good but when you look at the charts you could tell this business was going in the toilet. He hoped that by getting more money put into he could reverse it but the damage was already done… if you want to know more I can show y’all
