    I was terrible in math in high school, so in order to graduate I had to take what was portrayed as “math for dummies.” It turned out to be the single most important class I have ever taken. We learned how to balance a checkbook, how to apply for loans and mortgages, how to bargain shop, how interest works, and yes, how to do our taxes. It’s the one class that I still use every day and impacted my life the most. Just the lessons for student loans and credit cards alone saved me from making some huge, life-changing financial mistakes (I went to college in an era when credit card companies would set up booth on the quad and offer students free crap to sign up). To this day I cannot fathom why that class isn’t mandatory for every high school senior.

      I WISH I had a class like that available to me! The closest I had was personal finance and I had to leave halfway through because the teacher taught one thing and that was how to fill out a w2. It sounds crazy, but as far as I know those types of sentences are only realistic when outrageous murders have happened. Most of the time those numbers are the “max” for each charge and it’s used as a scare tactic to get a defendant to plead to the lesser charge. Here's an update, as some of this stuff isn't entirely true. He was only fined 11 million as the FBI raided and shut down Gears TV in 2019. He was jailed for not paying taxes. All the other charges were dropped due to the fact that IPTV was still legal back when. And all the money he made since was by legal means. After the whole Gears Reloaded stuff, he made bank flipping houses. So when he gets out in about a year or so (because I doubt he'll be spending more time than that behind bars), he'll be just fine.

    On the topic about the taxes- I was homeschooled (online school for ten years) and I did have a class that taught us about taxes, how to pay them, checking/saving accounts, checks, renting/owning homes. etc.., it was a required class to graduate. They called it "finical math," it was actually useful math you use day to day. Spoke to my aunt about it and she was telling me about her children have a similar class(public school goers) but they took it in 9th grade where most of the time kids aren't really paying too much about that stuff sadly. Maybe it's just my area or state but they are trying to educate the kids about taxes. But most of the time its just elective classes so people normally skip out on it and are not bothered to take it cause math is in involved.

    In Australia, our taxes come out of our pay and during tax time we do this questionnaire and fill out things like expenses and charity donations etc then the ATO (Australian tax office) checks what money you’ve paid in tax over and sometimes you get that return sometimes you pay a lil more. Super EZPZ

    • @3xceIIent
      @3xceIIent ปีที่แล้ว

      That is basically the exact same as in the USA. It's honestly really easy. There are only a few minor difference. The amount your employer withholds is an estimate based on your income. They give you a paper (Form W-2) at the end of the year with the correct amounts, usually they withheld too much (you can tell them how much to withhold though). You then have to request the tax form from the IRS and fill it out out based on the W-2. Most people don't realize how easy it is and pay for software or a professional to do it, but I think that is because of effective ad campaigns by said companies that tell people it is hard.
      The IRS website has a digital assistant software to help you file your taxes for free (most people don't know this I think). If you want to do it manually and you are just a normal employee with no extra income/deductions/taxes it's (IRS form 1040). You can look it up, it's very easy. If you have additional income, deductions or taxes then there is another form you have also to fill out (Form 1040 Schedule 1, 2 or 3). It's all plainly spelled out on the IRS page and it's really easy to see what you need to fill out. The problem is for people who are self-employed either fully or partially or are trying to file for a bunch of deductions. They have to keep track of all the information themselves and report it. It's probably similar in Australia.
