I don't watch pokimame or read her Twitter. I would have literally not know what ever Linus was referring too if she had not said anything about being hurt... overseeing called a "nameless" creator...
And once again, Pokimane puts herself in drama, and this time, she went out of her way to do it.
Almost no one even knew who Linus was talking about but she had to feel offended and out herself as a 'victim.'
Typical Poki, she has to be the centre of everything. She's 'Miss Perfect' in her opinion. Her idea about about static ads is laughable it's very 1990's when everything was static ads. Now there are very few, and they certainly would pay to keep Twitch afloat.

It's not really drama, there's no real controversy. She's the one overreacting, Linus is in the right. It's more like she's either a child who gets offended easily or thirsting for drama to get attention from a completely different demographic.

I think people took it as her stirring up drama and trying to get attention because:
A) Linus didn’t mention her by name and there are probably a lot of streamers with the same take as her,
and B) She went out of her way to call him out publicly for her simps to find out and go after him. And she KNOWS they would, she got a creator to lose his sponsorships because she sent her fans after him.
She’s one of the bigger streamers on the platform, yes, but most of her audience consists of a bunch of lonely dudes who jerk off to her because her content isn’t interesting. When she gets into drama, she gets wayyy more engagement because people wanna come see what the fuss is all about

Bro whenever pokimane speaks, I always here that slight bit of (im right and your wrong, and even if I am wrong I always have a very good point) it's small but I always here that superiority in her voice.... One more thing, she says that oh well it was just a short take.. Or oh it was just a tweet whatever... But what she doesn't understand is that the millions of misinformed people will see her inaccurate opinions and treat them like facts which is a huge problem.
One thing that struck me as weird with Twitch was when they did absolutely nothing to try to fight TH-cam to keep Ludwig on the Twitch platform almost right after his massive sub marathon. They just let someone, who just made them a mega ton of money and a massive following, go without a fight on the only real competitive streaming site?
Either someone at Twitch made an extremely bad financial call or Twitch is actually operating on or nearly on a revenue in the red.
They can’t compete with the money youtube has even if they aren’t in the red. Amazon sees twitch as a money making opportunity no way they’d let it run in the red. My guess is they want to maximize their own money and paying Ludwig what youtube offered wouldn’t benefit them enough for them to spend the money

I agree with you. TH-cam can throw WAAAAY more weight around. But like the OP said, something is definitely wrong with Twitch and their back end. Like a lot of their financial moves make ZERO fucking sense. ESPECIALLY Ludwig, and how easily they let him walk. I think Twitch isn't thinking long term and building lasting relationships with their talent, which is pretty on par with most corporate entities. It's only how much you can bring them right now, and how well & fast they can line their pockets. But on the flip side, they could definitely have financial issues and are running close to or actually in the red, because Amazon won't/can't keep injecting them with cash forever & they don't have the same ad capacity/track record & revenue generation that TH-cam does. Right now their bread and butter is the subscription split, which is peanuts compared to what ads would draw in.

@@strange11220 Nothing on Twitch's back end makes sense, they can't even follow through with their customer service tickets. Amazing site based based on what it provides and how it does it, but absolutely awful with anything behind the scenes.
It feels uneccesary to call out Linus when he made a point to not involve her. Discussing an idea while keeping the person anonymous is very professional and respectful. It's difficult to trust her to be able to have a mature debate over a discussion without her openly tweeting about the other Creator in a slightly negative way. She knows her power on twitch and can't stand people talking about her without gaining her sympathy or getting her peice. Everybody tip toes around her name because they know she'll make it a big situation. It's the same with Jake Lucky as well.
Their careers are based on forming opinions and drawing tenuous connections with surface level information at a distance. Both atozy poki etc entire business model is drama. It’s not “commentary” that’s trying to make what it is sound better. It’s just gossip and drama.

Plus Linus has the advantage of literalyl running a streaming service he knows exactly how much they cost to run to a penny.
Linus is completely 100% correct. It's not a popular opinion for those directly affected, but it doesn't change reality itself. You can make any argument against it you'd like, and in a perfect world, you might even be right, but he's right in the world we live in. Unobtrusive ads are proven to be worthless, and the real money isn't interested.
Maybe the issue is we need to make it a perfect world. Sorry I really hate that argument because it’s extremely dismissive of a problem i dont disagree with linus i do think he was a bit rude with how he quoted her but pokimane isn’t wrong ether
@@Pocket_Sized_Satan he did acknowledge his rudeness and apologize, however it's literally impossible to make a perfect world, literally every single company you can think of is invested in this way of advertising so even if every creator and viewer wanted it won't change to the degree that most people will like. No one is saying that there isn't a problem. The the whole point of an ad is to get the viewers attention and make them see the brand/product, so if the ad fails to get the viewers attention then it isn't an ad and they won't pay for it... Meaning that twitch and the creator lose money... Of course there is a balance, there should never be like 5 ads in a row over a video (like how crunchyroll has or used to have) but u cant have little to none either. :)

As a person who religiously watches your content I’m honestly glad that you mention that you make more money out of someone watching from TH-cam premium then watching it just from TH-cam regularly, so that actually prompted me to buy TH-cam premium today. I know it’s not much but that little information allows me to help out the streamers that I watch religiously aside from tips and other stuff.

Yeah I believe it's somewhere between 5-7x more from a single youtube premium view. I did youtube for a year and made half of it off of a fraction of youtube premium viewers.
TH-cam Premium is worth every penny imo. So I’m glad the creators I watch get a good cut from it. Don’t know how I watched YT daily without it. If you can spring for it yearly or even try it for a few months, it’s great not having to skip ads constantly. I also listen to stories from Reddit to go to sleep and it’s so nice not to be blasted out of a sound sleep by a loud ass ad and my heart rate takes 20 minutes to get back to where it was. So if you can do it, I highly recommend Premium.

Hes completely right. Twitch is not responsible for advertisers and what they want to put their brand on. Also streamers can shut the fuck up, they have donations and subscriptions as well, especially with pokimane who is a multi millionaire.
Pokimane makes more money in donos for livestreaming herself eating food and watching youtube in an hour, then most people do in a month. She needs to be humbled.

This here just highlights the fact we live in an outrage culture where people are looking to be outraged it’s great to see two massive creators being able to defuse bullshit.

Linus is the one that took the defusing into his hands while she went out of her way to create drama. He likely also said he understood her point to further defuse the situation. This has nothing to do with Poki directly, just pointing out that Linus is a nice guy, and is also from Canada, and riffing on the "Canadians are all so nice" meme. I'm not familiar with Poki's work as much as I am with Linus', but she does seem nice. Just not sure if she's Canadian. Is she Canadian? If so, we'll give her the same "Canadian Perk" that spawned the comment and call it a day. If she's not, then I guess that answers the question.

When you see how easily Linus defuses his rare drama, it really makes you realize just how much other content creators are intentionally playing their drama up for attention
A Twitch executive has two offers on his desk. One is for a full-screen ad-campaign that will pay $15 per 1000 ad-views, the other for a static banner that pays $0.15 per 1000 clicks. What one do you think they're going to pick? I don't think Linus is saying it's a good thing, just pointing out the realities of how money is made from advertising.

I found it funny as Linus didn’t want to blast whoever tweeted it so he said “nameless creator” He could’ve said John Smith. He’s also partnered with Floatplane and has helped it so he knows how video streaming works and how much it costs.
He's a little more than a Floatplane partner. Floatplane is owned by LMG, and Linus is CEO of both companies. He has a very intimate knowledge of the financial side of streaming services.
I think the crux of the issue is that even though you won't have 100% non-intrusive ads, people have been complaining that ads hurt viewers and streamers on Twitch due to the fact that during that time the ad is playing, you are basically missing parts of the stream even if it is only 30 seconds to a minute. And the ad is unskippable and sometimes oyu might get two back to back. No tot mention if you decide to check out another person's stream, you get yet another ad no matter how long it's been since you've seen the first one *and* their ads are pretty much all the same one for like, adobe.
even though non-intrusive ads don't bring in a lot of money, there comes a point at which ads are *so* intrusive *and* undesireable that that viewers just decide it isn't worth it especially towards smaller streamers where people don't really have a reason to stick around if they're gunna get hit with a 30 - 60s non-skippable ad.
Okay but think about it this way: it gives more incentive to sub. Twitch at the end of the day is a company who only cares about money.

The ads are fine, but getting 13m-26m+ of unskippable ads is unacceptable, multiple people just leave the website at that point - or find other ways to get around the ads such as a separate player
They also don't save if you've already watched ads creator to creator, and a lot of the twitch viewerbase switch around to see what their favorite streamers are doing
I had 11 ads and the last one borked. I hit refresh and sure enough... No more than a couple minutes later they started all over AND they all separated loading time... I gave up and logged out.
but at this point they are running out of options.. they have been running at a loss since they started.. nothing they do besides running more adds and or extremely cutting creators pay
@@noobmasters6913 Ye but with that long of ads they are making the website more niche than it already is, idk anyone willing to sit through even 10m of ads let alone 15-30m of them, and then the possibility of the streamer ending stream right when you finish watching ads kills any viewership unless you're willing to get around the ads, which hurts them even more

I think I bought it when it first came out and honestly I will cancel every other subscription before I cancel TH-cam Red (what it was called before) no ads, play while screen is locked, download videos. Honestly just the no ads part alone makes you realize how spoiled you can be. borrowed my girlfriends phone once to look up something on youtube and just having to see a bunch of adds in a 20 minute video.... never again

While I agree that demonetization has gotten somewhat better they still have ways to go to fix the issues they’re having. TH-cam is trying to go in a direction that is going with the current grain rather than letting people do what videos they want
poki is honestly one of the worst creators in terms of emotional outbursts. This isnt meant to be a "shut up and dribble" thing, she literally j doesnt know when to stop talking and often brings things public that dont need to be public or she whines about things that she misunderstands and then brings it uber public. she loves how much weight her following has and whenever she feels strongly abt something it goes online without her ever thinking twice. yeah she always likes to win it seems or have last word on people like she knows best when to me thats one thing which makes her toxic person though she has lot about about her i dont like appeal of.
I've noticed about her pattern since her first "drama" back in 2016-2017ish...
She seems............unapologetic, like she doesnt acknowledge her faults and whatnot, yet forces other party to say sorry or apologize because they're always in the "wrong"

Banner ads are literally what killed MySpace back when it was the number 1 most visited website. Now look 2022 and nobody even mentions it like it ever existed in the first place even though it still does.
I was so disappointed with how Linus gave into her Karen arguments.
She literally didn't have a leg to stand on, her own chat donations where against her, she was being entitled as all hell and even claimed subtly that he was doing this because he's sexist.

I categorize Pokimane under borderline trash TV and LinusTechTips don't belong there. While his response did treat her as if she has credibility, I find it suitable that way so he can continue his tech/tech business related content and not get baited into her category of content.

while I disagree about only doing banner ads, I will defend the idea of the current ad structure being too intrusive and needing some tweaks. on twitch it is a bit different than the typical TH-cam video meaning that on here when an ad plays it is usually only a couple, most times have the ability to be skipped, and the content that you are there to see pauses while the ad/s run. On Twitch everything continues to roll while 6 or 7 ads run and they come up _very_ often. With content that is live this can happen right when the main action you are there for is going on and you can miss things that are extremely important to the stream. I have seen the stream continue in a mini player above the chat, which helps and is probably more the direction that things will end up going in, but it doesn't always do this. Maybe that is a setting issue on my end and I am unaware as I only really use Twitch when specific people are streaming and that is not all that often that I can watch and they are live. I mostly avoid Twitch, and that is _mainly_ because of the way they run ads, if I am completely honest. I would much rather watch TH-cam live or the edited content the same creators put up later. I really really dislike the entire ad situation on Twitch. For the sake of honesty I do admit that I hate ads altogether and have Premium on here to not have to deal with them at all, but they really are especially bad on Twitch.
This is so weird to compare to twitch. On TH-cam, your content is searchable, you can add long descriptions. Thumbnails, clickbaity titles. The content lives forever and gets indexed by search engines and you get organic Seo after. On twitch….. IF you’re lucky enough that someone new happens to come across your auto generated thumbnail in a category AND clicks on your stream where your title is truncated, cus the tiny pic looks like they might be interested in your content and then twitch serves them an ad the moment they land on your stream they have taken a possible conversion and turned it into a bounce completely outside of your control.

The problem is that a livestream is different. There's almost no good time for an ad break during the stream unless the streamer is allowed to put in ad breaks. That would be the only solution. Maybe Twitch can make it that for an "x" amount of a stream's time, an "x" amount of ads have to be played. So the streamer has a choice for Twitch to auto play ads or the streamer has to take ad breaks. Though if the streamer chooses to choose when they have the ads played, then they have to have that certain minimum of ads for however long their stream is or they don't get paid all of their percentage from the ads that Twitch would give them. When a video is uploaded to TH-cam, the channel with ads can choose when the ad break should happen (I don't know if that requires a certain amount of subs to be able to do that). Though enough of the ads are banner ads that popup on the screen. Only if livestreams could get those, then that would be good for Twitch and TH-cam.

I understand working with a brand and them not wanting you to act in certain ways but when you blanket that across all of youtube it doesnt work. These people do not choose to work with that advertiser and accept their specific conditions yet it applies to literally everyone on YT that wants to make a living at it. Honestly I think it had more to do with profit AND censorship and the needs and concerns of the users as always went by the wayside. You are not understanding why the ads on Twitch are a problem. Yes, Pokimane's idea was bad. However, the problem still exists. In the past, twitch streamers had full control over the ads being displayed. They could choose when, if ever, the ads played for everyone. However, now ads are played at random moments for every stream. The problem here is that without control of when ads are played during a live stream, the ads can and will play at critical moments ruining that stream for those people. The current system is driving viewers away from the platform. Your experience with ads on your TH-cam videos is simply incomparable to the ads on Twitch. Twitch is losing money from ads because people are leaving the platform in droves and as a result, no longer viewing those ads. There is also the issue of freelance streamers being, by there very nature, controversial. A lot of advertisers don't want to be associated with Twitch these days. This also has an impact on how much money advertisers are willing to pay Twitch for ads. In the end, Twitch has a lot of problems that they have let fester which have resulted in the heavy handed changes that they are now making to cope with their incompetence.
