2:15 - I had to go to the hospital for a panic attack once (I was having moderate to severe chest pain and I also have asthma). My oxygen was at 95 when they first hooked me up, and the nurse laughed at me for being breathless. It ended up dropping (because of asthma at this point), and she refused to do anything and kept LAUGHING and told my mom “you got yourself a dramatic one!” My mom (a nurse with a BSN finishing her masters) was none too pleased. This was years ago and I’ve never gone to see someone for panic related chest pain again, despite the fact that the chest pain is partially caused by asthma. I just don’t want to deal with nurses like this anymore.

I’m a nurse and I feel so embarrassed by this. It’s quite annoying that these people represent all of us.
The healthcare person doing the “out of breath” TikTok isn’t a nurse, she’s a CNA.
The reason the ER doctor said not to go to the ER for “check ups” is because they can’t “follow” you like a PCP can. Not to mention an ER visit is more expensive than a PCP visit. ER doctors also can’t prescribe meds with refills or prescribe refills if you ran out. The ER is not the place to go for a “check ups”. You need to have a PCP, MD/PA/NP. The ER is not the place for that. Not only that but it is a waste of time, it is an EMERGENCY room.
you obviously need to have a pcp. but some people do not have one because they can not afford it. you have to have insurance to see a pcp, to even have an appointment you need to pay money. if you have some kind of illness symptom that could be serious (like a cough) and need to get it checked out, the emergency room is your best bet when you don't have insurance. yes, er visits cost a lot, but one er visit is less than a month of health insurance and some people wouldn't have enough to support themselves/families left over if they got insurance. with an emergency medical bill (er/ambulance) you can pay it off monthly so you still have enough money to feed yourself. not everyone is fortunate enough to have be able to afford american healthcare and she completely belittled people for doing what they need to stay healthy. someone might just need antibiotics to stop a simple infection from becoming a serious issue; and take their day off work to wait hours in an emergency room to make sure they can stay healthy but still have enough money to feed themselves
@@brookecdxx at the same time there are urgent cares that are open late hours that are more affordable. I understand we need to remedy this issue, but by increasing foot traffic in ERs you are causing people who have more serious symptoms to have to wait while you see the doctor for a fever or a sore throat. I always see my pcp or get into an urgent care, because New Jersey mandates that everyone even per diem workers earn sick time for every 30 hours worked. Meaning theres no reason you would avoid getting to urgent care because you cant afford to miss work. There is a valid argument in people overusing ERs and this is why theres been a surge in urgent care. If you break your arm or need stitches urgent care can take care of you instead of waiting 5 hours in the ER because the people infront of you had appendicitis or a life threatening issue.
@@brookecdxx Its the people coming in for non-life threatening symtoms, like the cough you mentioned, that are clogging up the ER. I worked in one for two years, I would know. The national wait time is 6 hours, and people are brought back on how urgent their complaint is. The sore throat or the chronic back pain are not brought back because they are not as acute as the actual heart attack or stroke in the other room. People take advantage of the ER, even if they don't have insurance. The ER is for emergencies, not a cough.
Brooke That is totally false. There are doctors that don’t take insurance. A cough isn’t serious enough to go to the ER. What ER visit is less than a month of health insurance?
People aren’t “doing what they need to do”. People are doing what they want to do. If they don’t want to get a PCP, then they should go to urgent care. Payment plans will always be set up by PCPs or walk in clinics if you are paying cash.
I have been a nurse for 10 years & I don’t know one provider (unless stated otherwise) that won’t take cash patients & work a payment plan.
People need to stop going to the emergency rooms for non emergent needs.

@Sam Lim the video said nurse* anyway, it isn't always. A lot of people fake it for medication or a day off work. Healthcare professionals are people too. If you have nine people come in and lie about something, you're gonna assume the next 9 people are lying as well. It's a human thing. And it's not inaccurate if its already happened multiple times. Enough for someone to just right off the bat assume you aren't telling the full truth.

We aren't doing them any favors by coming into the hospital and they have no clue who we are. And it's not just guessing. If someone comes in with symptoms that don't line up, you're gonna think they are lying. If I walk over to you and say I've broken my leg in three places, it makes sense to think I'm lying because I did just present something that disproves what I said. If you're having terrible stomach pain that suddenly goes away when your eating or when your boyfriend calls you, they have every right to think you're faking. And what do you mean ' honesty '? The medical proffesional is being honest when they state that you might be lying. Would you rather them lie and give every single person every test and drug under the sun? I go to a career tech school and let me tell you. Some of the shittiest, meanest girls i deal with on a daily basis are in the HEALTH CAREERS field.
It’s absolutely insane, these girls are most likely to start fights, yell slurs, and just be genuinely nasty people and i’m TERRIFIED of any of them actually pursuing any medical career incase i have to run into them again 🤢
I remember that literally just today i had to deal with this girl who would not stop talking during a test in our academics and when i got annoyed and told her to shut up i was the one with an “attitude problem” while she was screaming and swearing up a storm

As someone in nursing school it’s a shame to see some of these nurses speaking so carelessly.
I will say though regarding the ER, there is a valid argument that you should not clog up emergency services. That’s an area where time is so critical. Please know there are alternatives and also an ER bill will be extremely costly regardless of why you go!

I’m also in nursing school, but one time I went to the ER because I had a severe rash and they sent me home saying it wasn’t an emergency and that it was bug bites but it turns out I was having a severe allergic reaction.

A lot of “nurses” on tiktok are actually CNAs (nursing assistants) acting as a nurse trying to play it off as RNs. Also, I’m in nursing school and there really are a few bullies. But most are very kind hearted people. This “high school bully” stereotype sucks. I see my nurses skip lunch do everything they can for their patients and even get harassed sometimes but continue to care and treat. I wish they can just kick the bad nurses off tik tok because it’s perpetuating a bad stereotype that is just unfair.

As a nurse your locked into a building for 12 plus hours at a time. Fun is much needed in the emergency room otherwise you would stay so stressed out. When someone goes into cardiac arrest we will talk about the lasted episode of whatever and not talk about what is happening to help ease the tension. So laugh and goofing off kind of is a must.

Health insurance is far less than $1K per month in the US. My husband doesn’t even have a super high paying job, and ours is a couple hundred per month. Including our 2 kids.

Let's be fair, when it's a matter of chance, you can't prove it either way. Not religious, but until the existence or non existence of deities is proven unequivocally, we can't be sure. It's not like we can go and ask God "Did you save that person?"
@Sam Lim In theory, prayer could only really help in matters of chance. No matter how good of a doctor or nurse someone is, there will always be things out of their control
@Sam Lim It would be nice if someone went to the trouble of gathering data of survival rates between nurses and doctors who are religious and those who aren't. Of course, there's bigger issues in the world than that, but it would be nice to see some data on it

@Chance honestly I didn't see anything wrong with the tiktok itself. Some people do fake illnesses, and sometimes it's in a funny way. Maybe she should have presented it in a sillier way. For example, a real story: patient was faking a seizure, during which he flopped around like a fish and opened one eye to make sure the doctor was watching him, then exclaimed "I'm having a seizure!"
