Yamaha MT-09 - How to fix the indicators back in place

- I'm sure it's happened to every Yamaha owner, with indicators of this type, at some point. They can be a little tricky but here is the method I use to get them back in place when they easily get knocked out.
Yep had this problem with my 23 Yamaha MT-09, didnt take long to find this video and find out I am not the only one, thanks for this.
I've spent ages now with a tiny screwdriver trying to pull the grommet through from the inside, this way is SO quick and easy, THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you fixed my indicator within a minute after your advice.
Hey guys! To make things just a tad easier... spray the rubber grommet with window cleaner, it helps lubricate the grommet while moving it back in place. The window cleaner will evaporate and leave no residue
Window cleaners have alcohol usually, so be careful not to **** up the rubber. I use soup when needed .
I was about to say the same thing. I used some foam cleaner to lube it. Made it easy to fit in place without having to pull the locking bracket off as shown in this vid.
I just put mine back in before watching this video. I took rubber off pulled the light through to the outside put rubber back on and pushed and wiggled back gently into place. Worked fine. 👍thanks for posting a probably better solution.
This helped massively after my Grand Daughter decided to rip it off, many thanks 🙏
glad it helped 👍
I had a BMW R1200gs that I broke 2 indicators. I actually appreciate the Yamaha design that pops off if knocked...
You sir are a true Champ
Thanks for this. 2022 Yamaha Tracer 9GT.
Glad it helped 👍
It worked! Didn’t even need the mirror! In the dark no less!
How did you put back the tabs?
@@Jonq9933 you just need to feel it. it takes some practice. after a couple of tries, it will take you 2 sec to pop it back in.
@@jiajianhou426 which side do you put in place first? top or bottom?
@@Jonq9933 top, left, right, bottom, it doesn't matter. I always try all the sides until one of them worked.
Essendo possessore di una MT 09 2021, ho gia avuto a che fare con gli indicatori di direzione "mollati". Questo video bisognava farlo, almeno 1 anno fa. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great advice man thanks 👍
Bruh such a pain in the ass to get it back into place. When I was washing mine, mine got out
Absolute ballbag of a design. There are literally 100s of people with this issue. Mine has popped out so many times that the plastic that it sits in has broke! Yamaha Wigan say it's connected to the whole front light cluster and would all need to be replaced. They say it's not covered by warranty even though it clearly is a shite design. They say it's meant to pop out to stop them braking, but this is my 6th Yamaha and none of my past Yamaha's with the older design ever had indicator problems.
I'm actually thinking of trying a solicitor and asking about getting a Class Action Lawsuit as this should be covered by warranty with it being so badly designed.
I'm not a fan of this design either, I wish they could have mounted them a bot more flush so they were not a prime target to be knocked out of place. There are after market options, I believe. Good luck with sorting it out. Cheers
Mine used to do this when it was fairly new, now the rubber seem's like it has hardened a bit and doesnt do it anymore haha😂
Great job, really helpful. 😀
THANK YOU TALL BIKER!
I bought the Tracer 9 GT in 2021 brand new. Days after getting it the indicator popped out, so put it back in, then one day when I was riding I hit a pot hole and noticed the light had popped out again. The only problem was it has snapped the plastic it was seated in. I took the bike back to Yamaha as it was only months old and they basically refused to replace it! They stated I must have been to aggressive putting it back. I challenged them stating that it shouldn't be coming off when riding in the first place but it fell on deaf ears.
I don't know about the MT-09 but the indicator on the Tracer 9 GT is connected to the whole front headlamp cluster and they said it would cost over £1300 to replace.
The bike is due to go back soon (PCP), and I won't EVER be buying one again. Shame because this was my 3rd Tracer/MT but it's put me off for life.
Thanks man, really helped!
Thanks for this.. def helped me.
Thank you for this… superb!
What a life saver! Tyvm
Thank you! Such an annoying feature of the bike.
It does my head in too grrrr and it feels a bit cheap too
The whole point is if you drop the bike they don't get damaged.
謝謝你~對我非常有幫助~
Really helpfull video. Many thanks!
it helps me a lot. thanks man.
Thank you bro
Thanks man.
*another tip guys*
If that rubber tear, use super glue (liquid glue) to fix it. Strong adhesive. Can save your money from buy new one.
Awesome thank you
Tips from a noob bring the bike out of the garage where its alot of natural light, that is where it worked for me heheh
Love my MT/ Hate the always lose indicators!
Thank you
Thank you!
Don't take the fixing off the back.....use some fishing braid wrap it around the middle of the rubber then pull in place....
I just left the metal plate out and they’ve never fallen out again
Did you remove the plate completely or do you let it just hang on the wiring ?
@@WolfgangVonKempelen838 just left it hanging, the other side fell out also and I done the same, again haven’t had an issue
@@DG.2030 are they still in place?
Gonna pop mine in tomorrow as they have both flopped 😎
@@alexwotherspoon5630 Lool nah they keep coming off, really annoying. Maybe because I cover my bike everyday and the cover hits them?
I can fix the light but put back the tabs is impossible:(
It just takes a little practise to get the back plate secured. Maybe you don’t even need to fix the back plate, it just provides a little more security before it pops out again.
Or.. just get the lights from tst industries
