Honda Hornet 750 - First Ride - with some comparisons
These are my first thoughts on a test ride with the new Honda Hornet 750, mainly to see how the quick shifter works with this engine. I have also previously tested the Honda XL 750 Transalp which I really liked but had no quick shifter fitted, the Suzuki GSX-8s and the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE which I mention some comparisons to.

    I bought the Tracer 9 GT in 2021 brand new. Days after getting it the indicator popped out, so put it back in, then one day when I was riding I hit a pot hole and noticed the light had popped out again. The only problem was it has snapped the plastic it was seated in. I took the bike back to Yamaha as it was only months old and they basically refused to replace it! They stated I must have been to aggressive putting it back. I challenged them stating that it shouldn't be coming off when riding in the first place but it fell on deaf ears. I don't know about the MT-09 but the indicator on the Tracer 9 GT is connected to the whole front headlamp cluster and they said it would cost over £1300 to replace. The bike is due to go back soon (PCP), and I won't EVER be buying one again. Shame because this was my 3rd Tracer/MT but it's put me off for life.

    Thank you for your take on the KTM. I truly understand as. I a Peugeot also made in China and while a brilliant car to drive, has countless problems from leaky hoses to a/c glitches to gearbox issues. The 5 year warranty helped defray costs but it’s now 6 years old and anything that needs fixing from now is on my money. Fingers crossed need to get another car but the resale value is awfully low. So made in China , pls be aware of their hit and miss QC.

    I'm 6'4" and 100kg and I love my CB650R. I think if you spend a lot of time around town then maybe get something with more low end torque but if you like to go to the twisties then this bike really comes alive. Once you get it into the power band it hauls arse and the chassis/suspension is really good too. I have heard that the MT09 chassis/suspension/brakes are pretty crap which seems to be a recurring theme for Yamaha. Great engines, everything else is a bit meh.

    • @thetallbiker9645
      @thetallbiker9645 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the 650 is definitely more happy up in the revs. The MT-09 from 2021 chassis and suspension are a massive improvement over the previous models and the brakes are good but could feel better, I think it’s up to Yamaha’s abs system which dulls the performance somehow. Glad you’re enjoying the 650R 👍

    My local dealer sells BMW, KTM, Triumph and Kawasaki bikes and I have bought lots of bikes from them over the years. When I enquired about getting a 790 Adventure the salesman, whom I know well, took me aside and told me horror stories about KTM warranty claims and suggested that I look elsewhere, since I'm old and ride alone mostly. To be fair I had a KTM 390 Adventure for a couple of years that I bought second hand in 2020 and had no issues whatsoever. Donno about the 790 Duke but it sounds like you had a bad run mate...

    • @thetallbiker9645
      @thetallbiker9645 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, if I isolate how the bike rode, when working, it was great but I just can forgive how many things went wrong on it. I have recently seen reviews on the KTM 990 which looks very tempting but I just don’t think I could go there again, especially for the price and the strange arrangement of KTM removing lots of the electronic functionality after 1500 miles unless you pay more.

    • @thetallbiker9645
      @thetallbiker9645 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. I was surprised that the Hornet was actually pretty comfortable (I did only have an hour test ride though). I was so much more impressed with it than I thought I would be. Regarding the riding position, when I came to a stop my legs were quite bent and I wished the seat height was higher and also I think I (also around 6ft 2) probably looked like the bike was too small for me from other peoples point of view but, bottom line, I loved riding it and when moving, I didn’t feel it was too cramped. Definitely go for a test ride if you can.

I have ordered a slip on exhaust from Ali Express to give it even more attitude. Hi Eric, I hope you are doing well mate and enjoying your Hornet! This is what I put on my bike, it's really loud if you remove the dB killer, I put it back in, it's still louder than the original pipe, perfect in my opinion. I actually bought the exact same pipe for my previous vstrom 1000, loved it so much that I had to buy the same one for the Hornet ! You need to also buy that mid pipe, it's not specific to the cb750 but it fits fine. I added the quick shifter back in March this year, best thing I have ever bought, incredible fun! Together the pipe and the quick shifter has added a heap of extra fun and attitude to the bike and riding experience, you'll love it, looks great too. Cheers, Steve.
