  • What You Need to do to K24 Swap a 8th Gen Si
By Brian Gillespie and Aaron Gaghagen
What is better than a screaming K20 ripping iVTEC all over the place? If you answered "Nothing," you'd be wrong. And if you answered with "Your mom," you'd be immature. The real answer is a screaming K24 ripping iVTEC all over the place with it's sweet bump in torque and top end power. In the real world the best replacement for a K series is a K series. The 8th gen Civic Si already K powered, but it is not a straight up swap. We show you what needs to be changed to get a K24 into the engine bay of your FA5 or FG2

The Torque difference between the K20 and the K24a (3 Lobe) / K24a2 in the 8th gen is absolutely insane! also it comes with about a ~20% Horsepower scaling gain with mods! There were like 3? small things I had to do to make the K24 drop right into my FG2, and I literally ran it for a few years without a tune lmao!! It did bog a little bit at lower RPM, and was a monster once I dyno tuned it, but yeah this swap is amazing, and the engines are so cheap! I would never go back to K20z3!

I have a 07 fg2 si and have a jdm k24a swope and love it so much. A 4banger with torque!!! With the stock 6speed it makes it so fun to drive. And I run it to 8k rpm and don't have the k20a oil pump. Runs smoothly and don't miss a beat at 8k. Keep pulling like it wants to go higher rpm.

Do not chnage the oil pump, the Type S or type R pumps dont have balance shafts and it causes so much vibrations. i hated the swap and switched back to Si oil pump.

@@A.QPerformance ya I was told by everyone it had to have the type r or k20a oil pump or it wouldn't last a day driven it over 7k rpm. The guys that did the swope said they never do the pumps do to how bad the vibration is. Unless racing it or wanting to go over the 8k rpm mark then the guy said it be best to swope the pump. But I plain to keep it as a street car for now so I want it comfortable to ride in. I did pick up the hasport 70a race motor mount set to hold the motor from moving like it does with stock mounts. Seems the k24a has to much torque for them and has broken my exhaust near the cat do to moving to much. So I got a header made for the k24 swope in the 8th gen and a full stainless steel exhaust to put on it here soon with the motor mounts.

The amount of knowledge you have is incredible. I've been doing so much research on building my 09 si, and it's overwhelming. I want to build a motor, but I don't have the confidence to do it myself. I don't want a shop to do it because I love to learn and do work. Hopefully I can find a shop in Phoenix that I can pay to do the build, but also let me help and teach me.

Does eliminating the balance shaft increase vibration and noise a lot? Seems like there's two options for a K24 into a FG2; modify the the stock K20Z3 pump housing or use the RRC Type R pump and parts at close to $500 for everything. I've never seen another build modify the the K20Z3 pump. Seems like everyone just uses the K20A2 (Type S) pump. Which scares me a little with the higher oil pickup.

@@HBRDynamics Type S oil pump on K24 has definitely been the Internet's advice for years -- but now I'm wondering, does it place the oil pickup too high?? As I understand, the machining refers to what Brian describes at 3:05 to clear the block reinforcement. Nothing to do with the oil pickup.

He answers both of your questions in the video. You need the K20 oil pan in order to bolt up the rear mount. The fact that you think people are "slapping in Type S oil pumps" and you have "never heard of having to machine your oil pump" makes it pretty clear that you have never done the wrenching yourself.

@@mattanderson1719 now I'm wondering the same thing regarding the oil pickup. I've done a lot of research and watched a lot of videos and no one has ever mentioned using anything other than the type s oil pump with the z3 oil pan. I've got a type s oil pump already installed on my k24 and was planning to do this swap soon. Now they have me worried.

It's crazy watching your guys vids and the knowledge you guys know about these Hondas....and I live in the city where they make all the Hondas...and you can work as a temp to get a job in the factory so easy...everyone in this town drives Hondas and the junk yards are full of them....they would pay you guys some much money for the knowledge you know about their motors......Marysville Ohio

That would be so awesome. Honda's aren't common here in Sydney Australia, a good K20 engine like a K20A or K20Z4 sells for 4 or 5k here without the gearbox. It's insane. Just out of curiosity, how much would a k20z3 be there?
