  • Ford 300ci (4.9L) Inline-6 engine with a custom exhaust system. I'm running 2.5 inch pipe all the way back, with a Flowmaster 40 Series muffler, and no catalytic converter. Coldish day, like 40° or so, and first start in about a week.

    Another cause of a little smoke at startup/cold that I found on mine was the trans vacuum control module. When the diaphragm perforates the trans still seems to work but tranny fluid gets sucked into the engine and mostly shows smoke till the engine warms up. To check just pull the hose off the module. Any fluid means it's bad.

      @@harley_benoit You always want a crossover tube to balance the sound, going with the muffler dual in/out saves cost only needing one muffler and no cross pipe, I know v8's often suffer a horrible pop when revving the engine, I really wanted side pipes but new exhaust had been done by previous owner, tho to get my hitch mounted I may have to modify it a bit.

    • @harley_benoit
      @harley_benoit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it usually doesn't smoke. If it's cold outside or it hasn't been started in a while, it smokes a little until it warms up. If yours is smoking all the time, you probably have an issue. If the smoke is bluish in color your engine is probably burning oil.

    • @Kmecha84
      @Kmecha84 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Change the valve seals, they get hard and brittle. oil works its way past the valve stem down the guide and drips out the valve onto the piston. You notice a puff on start up and then goes away? There's your culprit and if they get bad enough it'll burn oil all the time and people think "my rings are shot" and toss the engine
