Bro, I despise windows. Mint is great and all, but needing windows is terribly a thing. Is mac even in a good spot, compared to the invasion win10 is of that which used to be privacy, or the content ownership usurpation that is win11 we now know and love. Topical video would be sweet, a reply also would be appreciated. I know there's no easy answer.
Recommendation for getting rid of extras: Right click on the taskbar and turn off: News & Interests, Show Cortana, Show TaskView Button, Show People, Show Windows Ink Space, Search : Hidden -> Uncheck Show Search Highlights You can still press the windows key and search without having to have the search bar on the screen.
The sad fact of Windows operating system is that you have to De-bloat and turn off adware, spyware, and malware before you even use your computer should be quite concerning.
Especially the fact that a paid-for, non-free OS wants to force ads on their users... this is just beyond ridiculous. Microsoft is pushing people away as hard as they can.
it's not it's just a business ..like they pay them to be installed in thier laptop this is how you make money it's pretty simple nothing like goverment spying on you ordinary JOE : D
And once you've finished all of that... create an image of the SSD to a hard drive. That way, you can simply restore that if it all goes tits up without having to go through the whole monotonous process again.
The last computer I did out of the box Windows 11 the option for no internet wasn't there. Had to Shift F10 and tick tack the magic commands to bypass that crap.
Awesome video. Thank you! Very indepth and all in one place! I've been dreading setting up my new laptop arriving tomorrow. Having all this useful info in one place will make life a lot easier.
Man I am always so impressed with you how to set up your laptop after you get it. Please don't stop doing these videos. I learn so much from them. That keyboard at the end is pretty slick, but i just baught a very pricey keyboard from Glorious Gmmk full size custom with khail box browns switches and I just love. I will remember that keyboard might be really nice one to take with you places on trip for like laptop use. Have a good one my friend and God Bless.
Followed your Windows 10 laptop setup guide from 8 years ago for 2 laptops, thanks for coming in clutch with a Windows 11 guide for my 3rd new laptop 👊
I found a way around getting around the being forced to sign into a Microsoft account. Where it requested my user name and password, I typed random keys for both user name and password and when I pressed sign in it just said that it doesn't work and then proceeded to register me as a local user.
Thanks for the tips. However, I’m puzzled that you didn’t mention one of the most important Windows settings that must be changed - show file extensions in Windows Explorer.
When you say things like Windows Defender is really good, it is better than everything else, I'm very curious where you got that information from? Could you possibly link some sources or say if it is based on your experience as a user in terms of how easy it is to use or whatever.
Dude! I didn't even know you were in a rock band until watcing this video. I retired from playing lead guitar many years ago due to illness. I hope you and your bandmates are well.
Bonus tip. For the newer Lenovo I had to be online to install windows. I haven't figured out a workaround for that yet :( 😞 However, we did figure out to create an offline user during setup. You just pick Domain user, and since you aren't joined to domain, you trick windows into creating a local user. Ty for video, btw
"I don't have Internet" is not available by default for the Windows Home edition, to bypass this: Follow the Windows 11 install process until you get to the "choose a country" screen. Press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt. Copy and paste OOBE\BYPASSNRO into command prompt, and press Enter to disable the Internet connection requirement. The computer will reboot, and take you back to the "choose a country" screen from there you can proceed with the "I don't have Internet" local account install.
I just recently got a laptop that came with Win 11. And during the setup on mine, there was sadly no window with the option to sign up without being connected to the internet. When trying to, it kept giving me messages like "oops, it seems you are not connected to the internet. Let's go back to the previous step/get you connected." And I had watched several videos on how to set up without a connection and without signing in to the Microsoft account. I did not manage to set up without signing into a Microsoft account either. When I tried it just kept telling me to get a Microsoft account and sign in. And I could not find a way to advance beyond those pages without doing it. It did not display any option to "skip". There might be new workabouts for this. But what is in the videos I have seen even a few months old ones, does not seem to work anymore. At least it didn't work with mine.
i just learnt from another video that when installing win 11 if you set it to english world it wont install all those apps like tik tok and disney etc, then you can just change it to english US after install
Great video. Some updates: Windows 11 now has an EarTrumpet type functionality built-in. And HTTPS Everywhere's no longer available since Firefox comes with something similar built-in.
I'm not sure if it works with a purchased pre-installed WIndows 11, but you can avoid all the bloatware by selecting "English (world)" as your language during installation. Never had bloatware since doing that. I also recommend "StartAllBack" as my favourite taskbar/start manager (it's less than the price of 1 coffee).
6:38 quick question about restore point. i googled it and i know what does it mean, but my question is. is it effective like if i encountered anything dangerous like system failure or anything of sorts like is it worth it?
The first thing I do is get the license-key from the motherboard, download a Linux-distro, put it on a USB-stick, boot from the USB-stick and remove all the partitions and make new partitions for UEFI, the Linux-distro and the home-directory and then install Linux. I used Windows XP, 7 and 10 and 11. I really can't tolerate Windows as since version 10. Version 7 broke my system more than one but when it worked I could tolerate it. Windows 10 got too bad with all the nag-messages, hiding extensions, incredibly weird sorting in the file manager (like sorting on name and still having the recently added files on top), lack of consistent dark mode (when I used W10 for the last time), the horrible update-process with countless interruptions. It even drove me nuts in the short time that I dualbooted with Windows10, anytime I started it up it was update-time first while I just wanted to play a game. Why are updates on Windows so slow? On Arch Linux a 2 GB update takes 2-3 minutes, and that is only because I have slow internet (8-9 MBps download).
Interesting though one thing I normally do from a security standpoint is that I'll normally set up a local account with limited access rather than use a supervisor level account. If I need supervisor level, I'll temporarily go to supervisor level until I no longer need it. I'll normally set the supervisor up as a separate account rather than use the built-in account and I won't use the built-in guest account either. That's usually one of the last things I'll do when setting up Windows.
What I can also recommend is to create a shortcut for the Reset in the taskbar. So you can just make a reset with one click instead going the way over the start button. Right click on the desktop, New, Shortcut, type shutdown /r /t 0 then next, you can name it Reset and finish Then right click on the icon, properties, shortcut, change icon, you can choose then the shutdown icon
I work full-time for a software development company but I also own a computer repair business and I have a great collection of TH-cam channels to stay informed. Just subscribed. I have been dual booting my main laptop with Windows 10 and Kali linux. Kali is awesome, i love cli.
Im stuck at 20:46. I cant seem to get rid of the "mobile" style on the taskbar for volume, wifi, date and time. Ive got properties open and downloaded explorer patcher but i cant get rid of tje mobile look
This is great! Just bought a refurbished T480 and it'll be my first ThinkPad since my X60 - which still works!! In spite of being dropped three feet in my rental SUV in Vegas back when it was new (2006?!) and the hard drive was spinning! A tank. Can't wait to try out my new-to-me i7 Lenovo ThinkPad T480 8650UU laptop and rest easy knowing I'm getting the initial setup right!
I can say with complete confidence that i7 will perform great for every day tasks and even some (VERY) light gaming. Shouldn't skip a beat other than graphics heavy tasks.
You cannot click on "I don't have a internet connection" with the home version of windows. You must have the pro version. Bit locker is also a pro only feature.
So when i purchased my laptop and during setup the only option it gave me was to select internet. It didnt give me option to say i didnt have internet. I saw this video too late
I am away from my laptop at this moment. But i have just purchased extra storage and upgraded ram and ssd for it. Now, I can't wait to install my new ugrades and start fresh from scratch, using the information you provide in this great video. Thank you for helping those of us who are less knowledgeable about this stuff. Best video I've found yet. Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to break this down for folks who know a little about tech but not much about the importance of security in our systems. Much appreciated!
I put the windows 10 style start menu with explorerpatcher but with that style my start menu did not open. I am on the latest windows 11 insider preview build for the dev channel.
Serendipity! My laptop was just delivered (upgrade from Windows 7). Thanks so much for all this info. I can venture forth with confidence and unbox this thing. And *maybe* retire my trusty 10 year-old PC.
hello Tek Syndicate. I bought an msi freedos laptop. When i first boot it opens. When i click on reboot it's not rebooting just waiting on rebooting screen and doesnt open anymore. First desktop encounter is weird also it doesnt instal drivers just bugging middle of installations. What will i do?
Great video and ofc always enjoying your music. For viewers; I recommend GpuZ, a tiny app that will let you have a quick view of Gpu temp and usage statistics, as well as Cpu temp. HWiNFO64, MSI Afterburner, Notepad++, CpuZ, IrfanView and Winamp (newly updated!) are a few others.
I download all the apps you listed on a new install except for Winamp. I switched to Foobar when Winamp was discontinued years ago and I can't go back, lol.
which cheap budget thinkpad should i buy for android programming , AVD, editing . i want to buy cheap thinkpad and upgrading processor ram for programming specifications need .
I have always partitioned storage on all my laptops (till win 10); all had HDD (I had created 2-3 partitions, one is personal, other is official, etc). Now, I have a laptop with SDD and win 11. Should I be creating partitions?
This video is underrated. It deserves millions of views! Microsoft is shoving so much garbage with Windows 11 and soon 12. Thanks a lot for your honest advice!
So my brand new laptop has Norton on it I use even the premium revo to remove it and as soon as I hook up to Internet it comes back any suggestions should I just clean install windows 11 😢
I got a msi pulse i7, 32 gigs of ram and 4070 btw. It's really annoying not being able to get Norton of though. This is really good guide for everything else and thanks for the video.
Norton is evil... It uses a registry key to install from your temp files. Try deleting all your temp files located in your appdata folder: AppData\Local\Temp
You're awesome thank you. Think I'm gonna go with a clean windows 11 install. The last try seems to have kept it down. Because I hooked up today back to internet and no Norton but I feel like it's still looming somewhere lol the guides you make are awesome. And that's why I subscribed appreciate the get back to as well 🤟
One thing he missed, before turning on Bit Locker, be sure to install a printer, so that you can print and store the key. You can also sign in and out of your MS Account and back up the key there. Watch yourself here, some Laptop OEM Versions of Windows Pro automatically enable Bit Locker and I have had done initial updates, that caused the Bit Locker Screen appear after restart, this only happened once with a Dell, but if I di not have the printed Key I would have been SOOL and would have needed to download and reinstall Windows and Dell Apps and stated all over again!
Awesome demo. I thought I was savvy setting up new Machines but got into the habit of “same as before and before that and before that” this is a whole new way
Once you bypass microsoft saying no internet can you just go inti settings and turn it on? Or will it prompt you to sign into microsoft when you tey to hook up? Thanks btw, nice job on video!
For me personally, I don't like having all my programs and data on the same "hard disk" partition. I prefer to partition the drive into C: (for programs) and D: (for data). That makes it easier to backup my data without needing to backup all the program files (which can be reinstalled, if necessary). Do you have any thoughts/opinions on that?
what is life? life is installing and uninstalling and updating and restarting and coffee-drinking and jittering and fidgeting and finally flatlining... .. . ______
ALSO, when I try to uninstall oneNote, my dialog box is different then what I see on the video. On mine, it says "How would you like to repain...." giving me a quick repair or online repair. I never saw this on your video.... WTF?
Looking around online to see how much space I should allocate for a restore point, i found this... (mainly surprised about the deletion of restore points!) From windows support: "A space of approx. 10Gb will be enough for System Restore, because that will be enough for a few restore points and Windows updates automatically deletes restore points when a large Windows update is installed, so that space will be sufficient."
Going through this on an acer today and sadly, there's no option to not go online. Infact, it even tells me that if there's no internett access, I have to use another device to continue through a website by MS. Same with the microsoft account. The option to skip has been completely removed. God I hate this so much
thats nuts! i just installed win10 enterprise on a different pc and unplugging the ethernet cable allowed me to go with local user. thats with a new win10 download which they could have enabled these stricter sign up rules on but didnt.
thanx for the video! 2 questions: 1. which antivirus software would you recommend? is windows defender really enough? 2. can i uninstall cortana or will windows be messed up like when you uninstall microsoft store etc?
1. Yes Windows Defender is really enough. To add other virus scanners only invites problems, even backdoors, with almost zero additional security. 2. Yes you can uninstall Cortana. You don't need it if you don't need voice commands.
Getting ready to swap out the 2TB nVME in my Thinkpad P1 for a 4TB (huge dropbox for work) and wanted to play around with my current setup to try things out. This video was super helpful. Tried a windows debloat app (BloatyNosyapp), the checkmark on icons has annoyed me for months and never knew compact mode existed either. Explorer Patcher is the icing on the cake. Super mall task bar, legacy style taskbar without icons and Win 10 right-click (without reg edit), Win 10 start menu - now it feels like I'm running Windows 11 Pro for Workstations. Thanks!
Hello Ward, thank you for the video, I found something new for myself. The question is, what is your new laptop? And why did you make this choice? what about Legion and Thinkpad t440p? Thank you.
At location 6:50 when you create a restore point, I get to the point where I select the drive, do you double click on the icon, I tried that, it didn't work the ICON shows selected, but I cannot go into the next phase where it opens up the window. What am I doing wrong, so it's not letting me go into setting it.

Can you do the 2024 version of this please?
Does all this information still apply or has any of it changed if so personally I would LOVE an updated version of this
Recommendation for getting rid of extras:
Right click on the taskbar and turn off:
News & Interests, Show Cortana, Show TaskView Button, Show People, Show Windows Ink Space, Search : Hidden -> Uncheck Show Search Highlights
You can still press the windows key and search without having to have the search bar on the screen.
I don't see any options to get rid of News and Interests. I wonder if they disabled the option to disable lol
I tried to turn those off as well. No luck.@@furnitureandbedding776
Gonna be saving this for my windows 11 setup video. Remembering all this is impossible but that’s what windows has turned into.
I had one of these saved from 6 years back, glad you've done an update.

Yeah that's why i prefer linux every day.😂
But to control the people chat they have no issue
I'm not worried. I spent a lot of money, I can spend a few hours setting everything up.
yeah, i concur. i really appreciate you for putting this together in the spirit of helping others. im set
OMG Thank you!!! That center task bar alignment has been driving me batty for months.
And once you've finished all of that... create an image of the SSD to a hard drive. That way, you can simply restore that if it all goes tits up without having to go through the whole monotonous process again.
The first thing I did after downgrading to Windows 11 was "upgrading" back to Windows 10
Weird. I just reinstalled my OS yesterday. Timing of this video couldn’t be more perfect. Thanks!
HTTPS everywhere is no longer available. Any alternatives you recommend?
Man I am always so impressed with you how to set up your laptop after you get it. Please don't stop doing these videos. I learn so much from them. That keyboard at the end is pretty slick, but i just baught a very pricey keyboard from Glorious Gmmk full size custom with khail box browns switches and I just love. Without this helpful video I would have signed up though.
Thanks for the tips.
However, I’m puzzled that you didn’t mention one of the most important Windows settings that must be changed - show file extensions in Windows Explorer.
Mine windows 11 new gaming laptop showed them by default.
Ty. I am glad this popped up to view. Such great timing .
It's always great to see this kind of video - very useful! It was actually the Win10 version which had me subscribe years ago.
honestly a really good and informative video, not treating the watcher like a total moron. cheers i got some nice tips.
When you say things like Windows Defender is really good, it is better than everything else, I'm very curious where you got that information from? Could you possibly link some sources or say if it is based on your experience as a user in terms of how easy it is to use or whatever.
Windows hasn't needed third party anti virus for flipping years man. waste of money
Dude! I didn't even know you were in a rock band until watcing this video. I retired from playing lead guitar many years ago due to illness. I hope you and your bandmates are well.
In my case turning off the Internet did not work. I used a wrong MS account and then it offered me the option to go ahead with local account.
Bonus tip. For the newer Lenovo I had to be online to install windows. I haven't figured out a workaround for that yet :( 😞 However, we did figure out to create an offline user during setup. You just pick Domain user, and since you aren't joined to domain, you trick windows into creating a local user. Ty for video, btw
"I don't have Internet" is not available by default for the Windows Home edition, to bypass this:
Follow the Windows 11 install process until you get to the "choose a country" screen.

What brand is your laptop?
i just learnt from another video that when installing win 11 if you set it to english world it wont install all those apps like tik tok and disney etc, then you can just change it to english US after install
Yes that would have been a better way to get rid of the bloatware....so much easier
"Everything will be so round we'll have to buy circular monitors" LOL
i like round. feels warm
Great video. Some updates: Windows 11 now has an EarTrumpet type functionality built-in. And HTTPS Everywhere's no longer available since Firefox comes with something similar built-in.

Th for this video, I do have a question. Can't we just uninstall the bloat through settings- Windows apps??
I'm not sure if it works with a purchased pre-installed WIndows 11, but you can avoid all the bloatware by selecting "English (world)" as your language during installation. Never had bloatware since doing that. I also recommend "StartAllBack" as my favourite taskbar/start manager (it's less than the price of 1 coffee).
your right.
Uhgg I wish I had read this comment before starting my new computer!!!
His changes to Windows 11 makes it look like KDE Plasma.

like is it worth it?
Great Video. No one makes this kind of content any more
I'm pretty sure a lot of TH-camrs do.
They definitely do lol
no one??? lol
chris titus does lol
Jarrod's Tech left the chat...
GREAT !!
For Debloating, I use the Chris Titus Debloat Utility.
For more Clean-up I use Glary Utilities
I really appreciate these windows optimization videos
I know one thing I need, I need to be able to disable super (windows key) + C so that Cortana is not accidentally triggered.
Wish he covered Cortana removal
try o&o shut up

This was great. Subscribed. Thanks for showing us these tools!
HTTPS Everywhere by EFF Technologies is no longer available as a Firefox extension add on. Which other one do you recommend?
It's built in now. No need to worry
Right click on the desktop, New, Shortcut, type shutdown /r /t 0 then next, you can name it Reset and finish
Then right click on the icon, properties, shortcut, change icon, you can choose then the shutdown icon
You should know that firefox has an https only mode - no plugs needed.
Thanks for tutorial. I would also add uncheck hide folder/file extensions.
I work full-time for a software development company but I also own a computer repair business and I have a great collection of TH-cam channels to stay informed. Just subscribed. I have been dual booting my main laptop with Windows 10 and Kali linux. Kali is awesome, i love cli.

You can click it, but it requires using the command prompt
Old school IT professional here (think punch cards through Win 10). I love your style. Excellent content. You got a sub.
Do you have a video for the steam installation in a separate folder?
Thanks for everything you do Logan.
So when i purchased my laptop and during setup the only option it gave me was to select internet. It didnt give me option to say i didnt have internet. I saw this video too late
What helped for me is to enter wrong email and password three to four times and then the Setup continued with just the local account.
I am away from my laptop at this moment. But i have just purchased extra storage and upgraded ram and ssd for it. Now, I can't wait to install my new ugrades and start fresh from scratch, using the information you provide in this great video. Great video, many thanks. I'm really digging your music too, great stuff.
Great video. As a legacy PC user who’s been in the Mac game for a while this is a nice intro to getting a newly acquired laptop setup.
I have always partitioned storage on all my laptops (till win 10); all had HDD (I had created 2-3 partitions, one is personal, other is official, etc). Now, I have a laptop with SDD and win 11. Should I be creating partitions?
Thank's for some really nice tips and hints! They are great time savers!
Would this still work with a pre built pc? I apologize for the silly question, I'm still learning
i don't see why not.
One more thing i always do:
Show file extensions for known file types.😊
Yeah, why?
This video is underrated. It deserves millions of views! Microsoft is shoving so much garbage with Windows 11 and soon 12. Thanks a lot for your honest advice!
It is if you like advertising!
Firefox has had HTTPS-only settings built in for a while now, you do not need to install that extension, its redundant.
Try deleting all your temp files located in your appdata folder:
AppData\Local\Temp
Thanks man. I'll be having a new system by tomorrow and will use most of this steps.

Sir, would you do a video on how you install Steam?
Thanks
what is life? life is installing and uninstalling and updating and restarting and coffee-drinking and jittering and fidgeting and finally flatlining... .. . ______
Cool video, fun and informative with a solid delivery
Getting new laptop soon, this is gold, thanks fella.
ALSO, when I try to uninstall oneNote, my dialog box is different then what I see on the video. On mine, it says "How would you like to repain...." giving me a quick repair or online repair. I never saw this on your video.... WTF?
Amazing video and ideas thank you my friend! Love from Greece!
Looking around online to see how much space I should allocate for a restore point, i found this... (mainly surprised about the deletion of restore points!)
From windows support: "A space of approx. 10Gb will be enough for System Restore, because that will be enough for a few restore points and Windows updates automatically deletes restore points when a large Windows update is installed, so that space will be sufficient."
HEY, I just found your channel and subbed! I love it already. Thanks for sharing
Logans the man
Going through this on an acer today and sadly, there's no option to not go online.
@@danwake4431 i know, right? the audacity of just forcing users to "use another device to go online" if there is no internet...gah
superr helpful vid tyyyy
also setting up computers takes wayyy to long. The constant updating and waiting was driving me insane.
thanx for the video! 2 questions:
1. which antivirus software would you recommend? is windows defender really enough?
2. can i uninstall cortana or will windows be messed up like when you uninstall microsoft store etc?
1. Yes Windows Defender is really enough. To add other virus scanners only invites problems, even backdoors, with almost zero additional security.
2. Yes you can uninstall Cortana. You don't need it if you don't need voice commands.
Thank you so much for making this video!! It has helped me tremendously
Thanks for these and compact view because it was driving me crazy!
Hello, does it make sense to partition a 1 TB SSD Drive to separate Data from Windows?
I have a huge proponent of ReviOS. It's a stripped version of windows 11. Everything useful still works, with zero bloat.
its i am s huge proponent.
Thanks!
That UAC tip is really good, thanks
Best advice there is, tanks. I followed nearly all of it, worked perfectly.
Hey good ol tek syndicate been a minute! Good video brother thanks!
