There's a reason the channel doesn't provide time stamps: he believes we owe him 25 minutes of our time so he can discuss 5 nothing-burger applets. Oh, let's not forget him paying his bills right up front? This is what happens when people quit their real jobs and stop contributing to their local community so they can be TH-camrs.

14:38 I've learned that many people don't know this, so if it helps 1 more person who reads this, then that's cool. You don't have to install anything unless you really only want to use your right click mouse. "Holding shift + right click" skips the "show more options" and shows you the classic context menu.

One feature you failed to mention about Fan Control is the ability to mix profiles. Once you have the CPU/GPU/Pump profiles set up you can then mix them so that for example if the GPU temp starts to rise it will not only speed up the GPU fans but can also speed up the case fans but not necessarily the cpu pump speed. And technically Fan Control is free but I urge people to donate to the author.

It's the length of a sitcom episode, sans commercials. Almost 1/32 of a person's waking hours in a day. For 5 apps.
      It's too long.
If you make two tighter 12-minute videos (maybe cover another app for symmetry) you have more content and it's more digestible.
Probably better for your algorithm as well.

Chris Titus's powershell script is my biggest suggestion. You can select to save an icon for it on your desktop to make it easy to get to. With it you can do a heap of things like classic context menu, increase privacy, increase performance, install programs + updates and so on.

Wanted to add my favorite - WinAero Tweaker, can be installed as a portable application and gives easy access to dozens of registry tweaks. Disable driver updates? Yup. Disables Windows Telemetry? Yup. Increase Restore Point frequency? Yup. Enable the classic context (right click) menu? Yes.
Then you can export all of those settings to put them on other systems.
    Oh, and it's free.

  • @fragalot
    @fragalot 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

The brilliant thing about Fan Control is you can set up fan curves based on ANY temperature sensor. Like your GPU hot spot can cause your case fans to spun up faster if you wanted to. You can do something stupid like speed up your GPU fans based on CPU temps. You can do anything, you're not limited to just your GPU fans being controlled by your video card since those devices already have their own fan curves you can edit (in around about way).
The only drawback to this app is it it doesn't automatically label what fans or what. But you can play with these settings so you can identify which fan you're controlling so you can properly name it. But you'll need direct access to your PC guts to be able to identify them. So this is mostly geared towards system builders and enthusiasts. Not for someone running an OEM PC playing solitaire all day.

    • @JK_92
      @JK_92 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

This is one of the main reasons for why I use FanControl, it makes sense for my case fans to ramp up when my GPU is under heavy load even while CPU isn't.
FanControl lets you do just that, as you mentioned, by linking together any single or multiple sensors, with any of the fans in your PC.
I always recommend it to anyone when talking about temps or fan curves, it's such a great app!

Also you need to use DDU before you install driver package created by NVCleanstall, if you have the stock drivers already installed from Nvidia. Because it won't remove the crapware/telemetry already present from the old stock drivers even if you choose "perform a clean install." So you must reboot into safe mode, run DDU remove the stock Nvidia drivers completely, then reboot (offline do windows doesn't install drivers) and install the driver package you created with NVCleanstall. Once you've used DDU once like this you shouldn't need to do it again as long as you keep using NVCleanstall to rebuild your driver packages.
I also do not click the "install button" I instead open the temp folder NVCleanstall created and copy it off somewhere (USB stick or NAS), then I can take that folder and use it on other computers and install it on those PCs after I've use DDU.

The only registry cleaner program i use is Revo uninstaller Free. Revo uninstall programs and after that it is scanning for leftowers.
It removes files and folders and registry keys not removed by the programs uninstaller.
That is a good feature, because if a program not funktion correctly, you will have to clean all of the program away, before installing again.
That is a program that I thought you should have had in the video Rich. I like Explorer Patcher as you do and the old Windows 10 context menu.

"Personally I think Microsoft should just work with this developer to integrate this program into Windows 11 once and for all."

12:55 If you have a RTX 2000 series card, a lot of them have USB-C ports on the back of them. So if you have such a card, you'll want to enable that USB Driver if you plan to use it. It's intended for VR (a single cable solution since it provides power and high speed data) use but it works GREAT as a normal super-fast USB 3.2 C-port.

These sound great. This did get me thinking, maybe the reason Microsoft created the 'show more options' bundle in their win11 context menu was simply to prevent cluttering it up. Just to keep it clean. But trust me, I understand the frustration though, highly annoying when you simply wish to use 'open with' and the option is hidden
Update: Downloaded and currently playing with PC Manager. Now the link in the description I guess is for a newer version because the download button is disabled with a 'Coming Soon' label. HOWEVER, it is available on the Microsoft Store. And so far, I really do like it. Great recommendation.

I strongly prefer the centered Taskbar on Windows 11. In fact, I went back to my Windows 10 computer and emulated the Windows 11 Taskbar there as well. The centered Taskbar means you don't have to work constantly to the left. Everything is right there in front of you. I also put an off button on the Taskbar and with a few learned changes you can do about anything with the new Taskbar that you could with the old. With my old Windows 10 computer I used Quick Launch so they were very similar. I also like the the two finger activation of the Task Settings as well. What I don't like is the new File Explorer. Everything is engineered to direct you to use OneDrive. From setup to every keystroke in File Explorer it causes you to be intertwined with OneDrive. Microsoft wants your money and your privacy and they'll do anything to get it. They don't want you to make file changes because it hurts their ability to control OneDrive. I haven't removed it yet but I've turned it off and am waiting to see what they do with the next several changes. I believe what they are doing is not legal and they should be prevented from forcing use of it during setup. I bought a Lenovo computer that had a problem and sent it back. I bought a replacement and in the two weeks between having the computers Microsoft changed the setup options. I couldn't use any of the standard options to bypass OneDrive on the second computer but did have other selectable options I didn't have before. I basically stopped OneDrive as soon as I could then turned it off and auto returned all uploaded files back to the computer. I also stopped all sync options on my old systems before installation. People watching this channel may have a better way to do it. I wanted to keep it simple and direct. It worked for me. Once OneDrive is turned off you can still backup selected files direct to the cloud without turning on OneDrive - 5 GIG. I also use Google Drive (slides, sheets, docs, etc.) on my desktop and load that after everything else. If you use OneDrive, files from Google Drive will also load to the cloud via OneDrive unless you rework file locations.

I'm no fan of one drive or the cloud for many reasons, like pricing and privacy etc. I also don't use it but my understanding is it can't be disabled. I do have my fair share of external drives that I use to make complete OS backups of my hard drive. My old HP with win 10 started to take a dump on me I was fortunate to get my data. Now I have new cyperpower pc. with Win11 and I hate the file explorer structure and it's lack of tasks and hidden options. . I'm in the process of trying to find a program that over lays File Explorer with a win 10 environment. Any how I'm just relating/commiserating with you.

Thank you for this very interesting apps.
Especially Explorer Patcher, though I wonder why I don't get my Windows 10 tiles which were sooo useful to maintain app groups, like "Microsoft", "Adobe", "Photography", "System Tools" I had made... Can you help to have them visible? I do not understand how the Win11 Pinned panel can be made useful.
I have many (I think) FireFox/File Manager issues since I installed Windows 11, so I have to reset File Manager many times a day, and sometimes log off or restart Windows as closed apps remain in the Alt+Tab list...
From what I can see MS PC Manager can't be installed yet ("Coming Soon" button). Maybe you are a beta tester?
Am I correct to think that you use Fan Control to also monitor fans that are outside your PC? Are they directly connected to your PC at the hardware level or via e.g. Bluetooth/WIFI?

Maybe we advise that argument as to what was done in the past. Cannot remember what it was called but did exactly what we are seeing here.

I had THREE instances when cleaning the registry fixed bad functioning programs (Adobe and one game that refused to start). I understand that it's dangerous to clean without any needs, but sometimes it helps, it's not a matter of performance.

From my humble experience don't and never use - no matter how outdated they are - other Windows drivers than the computer's hardware's manufacturer/developer! Don't say I didn't warn you!😢
The only feature I use and like very much of CCleaner is that it can delete whatever restore point in Windows, especially when you use Win Aero Tweaker which has one of plethora of tweaks out of which is to force Windows to do more restore points than Windows actually does by default.

There are situations when you need to roll back a driver. For example, same games break after a driver update, and the only way to play is to roll back. Even some CAD software can break after driver updates.

ALRIGHT. If you use NV clean instal it will erase your GPU driver settings in the nvidia control panel and may cause your pc to black screen whenever you open or close google chrome or maximize a youtube video etc. To fix this go to nvidia control panel, then adjust desktop color settings and then scroll to bottom where it says content type reported and switch it from auto to desktop programs.

Explorer Patcher most likely bricked my hard drive twice. I took a new Win 11 laptop, set a restore point, did all recent updates (2x), and only installed EP. The next time I fired up computer, checked for updates, created a restore point, updated, computer locked up. Couldn’t access/use any restore points. Had to do a clean install, start over. Repeated above, same thing happened again.
Another clean install, left out EP, computer has been fine for months.

So far Fan Control takes priority from anything set in the UEFI. I'm leaving it setup the way it was, in case I'm in another OS, or the software isn't running. It's working beautifully to increase case fans for the CPU or GPU. It's even running the GPU fan curve. You can do very elaborate configs.

I have a high-end machine, and I know all too well what it can do. My machine ran great on 10. I regret installing 11. You will notice on the front page you will have x amount of MB space on your temp files If you hit boost it will go to zero but when you reopen it the size of temp files will be exactly the same as what it was before you hit boost the previous time Even if you go into the deep clean and temp file boxes are checked for removal when you hit proceed it removes literally nothing . It really would be a useful tool if only it worked . Brings me to this question . how does shit like that get missed by the guys responsible for testing it
