As far as gaming mode it may or may not help it depends on too many variables. Game Mode gives top priority for your game - this is useful if you are running multiple software / processes at the same time - Where it will hurt game performance is if your game is relying on multiple software or processes running at the same time, if not, then it may actually improve performance - by how much, it depends - maybe on high-end systems barely noticeable, it might help more with lag and frame drops. It's best to keep the option OFF, if you have a powerful enough system and your game has decent enough frame rates and turn it on if needed, but the best thing that will give noticeable increases in performance is debloating the OS, and if you are an advanced user, dedicate a partition for gaming on a light version of the OS without all the bloat and installed apps that run in the background - this is what I do - I have 2 x Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, 1 for system and apps, another one dedicated only for games. and 1 Samsung 990 Pro 1TB dedicated for windows temp and cache.

I heard those apps like Disney+ on the start menu are simply links to installers rather than the actual applications. The core isolation screen may not even appear if your PC doesnt support any memory settings. It would be a good idea to warn people about editing the registry you can do a lot of damage if you are not careful.

It depends. Ultimately all drivers even the ones available on Windows update are manufacturer drivers. However, those drivers are known to be kind of outdated. So on things like chipsets and GPUs I would use manufacturer drivers but on other minor stuff I would just use the drivers that come with Windows.

When 7 expired she didn't want machine & sold to me & I put 10 on it but unactivated. I don't see the issues people have with Windows 11. I was nervous when I upgraded from W10 to W11 on my 3 year old laptop after reading bad comments about it but upgrading was a breeze and it's been running sweet ever since plus it's not much different from Windows 10 anyway.
I recently upgraded to 23H2 and it's still running great.
I've also had the same positive experiences on my Wife's 2 month old laptop and the Gaming Desktop that I built 9 months ago using a combination of old and new parts.
All I can add is that I do keep on top of PC maintenance so maybe that's the key to happy trouble free computing.

I've been really enjoying Linux for the last couple years, but so far I've found it impossible (at least with my hardware and my methods) to get the full latest Windows version of Scrivener to run. I have a method for running the 32 bit version of Scrivener, but unfortunately the makers of Scrivener have discontinued the 32 bit version, as they have migrated to QT 6. Now I can't get updates unless I run the 64 bit version, so here I am. Things like what this video covers and OOShutup11 makes that more tolerable.

Do new laptops require win 11 activation or can you still opt to use win 10 during install?

My Win 11 OS is installed on the SSD. sorry if this is a silly question but, should my anti-virus, Anti-Malware be installed on the OS drive or the other Hdd drive??? Same goes for other apps and programs like Quicken for example what should go where???

Just wondering if its worth installing AVG Driver updater? Even if its just the free trial?
Or are there free equivalents to this other than maybe relying upon windows update to update the drivers if not at a slower pace.

The most practical Driver Updater is letting Windows Update handle them and/or getting them from the manufacturer's site either via the assist of something like Intel Driver Assistant or entering your make and model on say HP's site and bookmarking said page.

With all the skills available at Redmond, Windows still can not produce a release that actually works!

The start menu on the left is so much better, you don't even have to aim the mouse, just send it all the way to the corner and boom, there it is.

Start menu on the left is okay for 1080p monitor but not practical for 4K and higher resolution

I would have agreed a few years ago but I've gotten used to having it in the center and it really is better on ultra wide monitors.
However, this ultimately comes down to personal preference. I don't think either are inherently better but both have positives and negatives depending on circumstances.

@around minute 2:28 that uninstall is not actually uninstalling the application, it is just removing the entry!

Hi. Do you know a way to go back to the old win10 ribbon in explorer? I think the new win11 command bar is less useful. maybe a tip to deactivate the option hide/ show hidden file.

I've been using windows since the 90's. Whenever a new version of Windows comes out, everyone says it sucks hahaha! That being said...it usually does! Thanks for all the tips!

Yeah. It tends to follow the same trend. Every other major Windows release completely sucks. Windows 2000, XP, 7 and 10 were actually pretty solid out of the box. Windows ME, Windows Vista and Windows 8 were just terrible from day 1 and never really got much better.

Not quite. Go back in time and read what they said about XP, 7, 10. All terrible windows until they're NOT.

XP was prolly that one and only time MS got things right from the start. 7 was good at launch as well, but it feels like a rectified version of Vista than a new Windows.
I tried the most updated version of Vista before (SP2). Without any bloatware and with the proper drivers, it was actually a good OS imo. The problem was we already had 7 at that time so this improved and more stable Vista came too late.
8 was a curious OS. One big reason why people hated it was the GUI, which was clearly tailored for touch. MS was trying to go for a Windows that was for both PCs and touch devices. Imagine if they did it right.

Define from the Start...see what I did there?
Before everyone loved Windows XP, they hated it
