Car enthusiasts ought to thank motorsport enthusiast CEO Akio Toyoda for producing an affordable fun to drive RWD manual naturally aspirated sportscar, in a world where bans for petrol cars will be imposed in less than 10 yrs time in Japan & UK. I get sick of people complaining when saying that their hot hatchbacks/mustang/minivans are faster - I mean so what? Adding power is easier in the aftermarket than it is to lower the centre of gravity, adding structure adhesives for a rigid chassis, have precise steering feel, or converting their whole drivetrain system to RWD in a lightweight package - those are things that only a manufacturer can really do, unless you have so much time in your hands with tonnes of money to spare.

A car I would love to own. Definitely has an interior for me. Engine bay looks as easy to work in as ever. I'd get the BRZ. I believe Subaru did most of the work and it's made at their plant. Their mechanics know how to work on the engine and trans better if it ever needs the dealer. I like the looks, though there are some parts of the old car I prefer. Both look good and will age well. Stiffer, more powerful, manual option, improved mechanical linkage transmission, pretty much a better car in every way. Only weight added about the same as a meal at the Outback steakhouse. if you're making this comment in 2021, good luck!
Definitely waaaay more excited about the 86 than the Supra - actually was quite disappointed when the Supra came out.
I checked my notices, and had five different channels reviewing this car. I don't mind, because I'm going to buy one. And this is my favorite car channel, so I'll start here.
I know I’m two years late, but I’m watching “backwards” and you two do the best car content that I’ve watched since the early Top Gear.
As a 42 year old, I miss the days when our lives were marked around cars, speed and pure fun.
It’s crazy that even with two good salaries it feels like such a waste of money buying most cars. I can’t understand how the young people can afford even cheap cars like Hyundais.
Keep the content going! I’d love listening to you two in podcast format but I’d rather you keep doing what you like to do best.
I love it when these two are giggling together. Such a cute cupple
Holy embargo lift omg😂 Glad I stopped by the geese first. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the “Cars and Trucks are Changing Forever” video, and just how despondent and beside themselves so many who commented there seemed to feel about the future of cars. At least now, there’s still stuff like this to get excited about, though. Great video as always.
Gotta love the Gundam-suit mind meld "neural handshake" duo driving of the previous gen 86. Clearly you two are "drift compatible"
Pacific Rim and Evangelion both did that!
@@cyberneticxylem9614 get in the f***ing Toyota Mark!
Dude, I started following you after I picked up a BRZ in 2013. You've come a long way and should be proud. Keep up the great work!
Great evolution. I'm am SO happy there are still companies making and improving CARS!
Everything about this video was excellent.
*Chef's kiss*
What a great car. Japanese car manufacturers are on the top of their game (GR Yaris, GR86, new Civic, MX-5, 400Z...)
True that ! Just picked up a new MX5 . Cheers ,
New Integra due out soon as well. If it's got an actual mechanical e-brake and manual gearbox, hatchback, and rigid frame, I'm going to start selling my organs.
@@12ealDealOfficial I forgot about that. I'm not sure if it'll be coming to the UK yet (ahem 400Z)
And then you look at what they did in the 90's...
@@Diddydudat What a time, what a time.
Just got mine today. Most fun I’ve ever had in a car (I have an evo 8 an evo x and a 21 wrx). Kudos to Toyota and Subaru
Hoping you have secondary footage of Jack's initial reaction to putting the helmet on for the first time ..
I love how simple and matte the interior is.
I'm just here to hear you guy's laughing and having a good time.

Dude, wrong place for this shit, this ain’t @regularcars. You want your old piece of shit reviewed go to RCR with Brian and Roman, not here.
All of the journalists went to the same event, but the results are different. Great, polished review.
It's great how you two get really giddy together when pushing a car on the track. Candid moments. :) It's lovely! And very infectious. _GOOD_ infectious! 😬😉👌
When Toyota listens the enthusiast's, we all win.
but they didn't... It's slow as fuck still EVERYONE asked for a turbo... They got rid of the shitty torque dip but that doesn't cut it when a camry has 202-301hp....
@@8BitWags This car just isn't for you and that's okay. People will enjoy the car regardless.
@@southernclassik owned both the FRS and the BRZ. It’s a great little platform but it’s underpowered. Have you owned one??? Also the larger bore, although glad it eliminated the nasty torque dip, will not respond well to forced induction. Really disappointed.
@@8BitWags I understand where you are coming from. IMO If someone cannot enjoy this in stock form, you most likely won't truly enjoy it overall. To answer your question, yes. I own a 2017 86 and its my favorite car to drive. Still not the fastest car I own yet, it's still my FAVORITE! It has everything you want in a sports car except the raw straight line speed and it's still affordable. Mine is all stock except the TRD intake. I have a video on my channel of me driving it in the mountains. cheers
It’s 95% a Subaru
"Pure driver's care that is not going to exist in the future". Remember this day and video before everything goes full robot. Great video. Thanks.
People keep saying that, but every year we keep getting good driver's cars.
@@TheOwenMajor yeah. Though this is the last hurrah before electrification. The Integra, Nissan Z, rumors of a Mazda RX…
@@undergroundoutlaw411 Maybe, maybe not. I project backlash and a stagnation of electric cars at some point. Electricity will be expensive, gas cheap, and people pissed off.
The throwback intro alone sold me. I can't wait to blast my Eurobeat in this.
This impression was a delight, I can not wait for the proper review!
I'm one minute into this review... Gotta say... Music selection and editing.. BEST review I've seen on this car and best review I've seen in general in a LONG time... Keep it up Mr. Goose!
The laughs and giggles are priceless
I absolutely love this channel first and foremost. The editing, the music, the content is all very appealing. I also love what this car is about with rear drive, affordable, sporty, manual tranny, and good looks. Well done on the channel and the car
The engine sounds like it really doesn't want to be an engine imo
So, is it trying to be like you?
Hidden dash speaker for engine noise. :(
@@donwarner6925 did your feelings get hurt little guy?
It's exactly as grand tourismo had predicted.
no one wants fake engine sound, i really have no idea what goes through manufacturers head when implementing it, it sounds like a worse need for speed engine fart sound.
this just became a 36 year old mans dream car. i am in love
My subscription feed: 9 videos of the GR Supra that's published at the same time. Just queued all to my playlist!
Excited to see your more in depth review, I’m fairly certain ill be picking one of these up in the future for some track fun! Thanks for the premium content as always !
Its gonna be a no brainer, low cost tear it up on track car with a minimal amount of fuss. Pads, oils and tires. Will need 10w40, oil temps were pushing 240F after two laps.
@@savagegeese 240 sounds chill. My Camaro with the LFX V6 runs 265-275 and my Blackstone oil test results on my Dexos2 5W and 0W40 oil show no degredation. I am searching for reliable info on what temps are actually too high for modern synthetic oil.
@@tdrcar Issue is oil pressures on Boxer get low quickly as temps get past 250F.

I think you should buy one because it shows how much appreciate for this platform is appreciated. Using your wallets will show the manufacturer how much people love these cars.
Been waiting for this car for a while. Its the perfect upgrade over the old 86.
I never thought this day would come either lol I remember watching your OG 86 videos after buying mine back in 2014 lol

@@xFlared it’s a Trap!
The thumbnail changed my mind on the rear end design, that duck bill looks sick.
Jack needs to give that helmet back to the baby he stole it from…
The Geese drops a GR 86 video never clicked so fast. Thanks for the impressions. Due to being a current 2017 GT86 owner was very interested to hear. That fake engine noise sounds so loud in GR86, sounds like good improvements though besides that. I am also now 10% smarter after watching this :).
Jack Saigon’s face couldn’t be more squished if Hello Kitty tried.

I love this intro with the music. Kind of a stranger things season 4 intro to every scene. Please do all your future reviews like this.
You guys had a lot of fun driving the 86 lol
Your videos are just unmatched from the quality to your wording and how you explain things. I do recall maybe in one of your videos you would buy the new generation FRS….. keep up the good work, you got a lifer!

Nice touch with the ”Running in the 90s” song.

Car enthusiasts ought to thank motorsport enthusiast CEO Akio Toyoda for producing an affordable fun to drive RWD manual naturally aspirated sportscar, in a world where bans for petrol cars will be imposed in less than 10 yrs time in Japan & UK. These companies know that these sportscars aren't as profitable as SUVs, but still Mazda and Toyota (+Subaru) continue to produce them. To say 'iT nEEds mORe PowER' or 'mY gOLF R is FaSTer' or 'ILL gEt iT UsEd wHen iT dePRecIateS 10k' is an insult and a disservice to these manufacturers - and will be the reason why there'll be armchair critic Karens whining about 'wHy aReN't thERe ANy sPOrtScaRs fOr uNDer 50K anYmorE'
LOL Exactly. That's why we have all these SUV/CUVs. Rip apart every new sporty car, but still end up buying the shit you say you hate. They also continue to obsess about cars they'll never afford instead of buying stuff like this and others. I'm waiting to see how badly they shit on the new Z tonight. 🍿 will be ready.
@@pherron7471 Me too man! I liked your comment on Matt Maran's GR86 video too! It really goes to show that its impossible to please people and you'll always get hate no matter what you do.
@@smilepermile8165 LOL Moving to Texas forced me to realize true car enthusiasts are an even smaller niche than I thought. People here buy just buy the same V8 cars over and over again. Pretty much laugh at you if have anything else. I'm pretty sure exotic car owners just buy their cars for Cars and Coffee and fine restaurants/ clubs. There are still a lot of good cars out there that aren't a Ford/Chevy/Mopar. People are missing out.
@@pherron7471 Exactly, its very much location dependant isn't it. With what kind of roads you have access to on a regular basis, and what type of racetracks (wide with long straights or tight with lots of elevation changes) you have near where you live. I just hope people understand and appreciate why companies produce these non-profitable lightweight RWD cars with modest power outputs.
TH-cam is flooded right now with GR86 reviews, but I clicked on savageese first out of all of them
Great car, apart from fake engine sound obviously. That sound module should be removed and slapped into the face of the person who approved its implementation.

Feels like I've been waiting forever to see you guys cover this!
Starting the day with the Geese! Love it
Jack's helmet is like the suit I haven't put on since before covid-19
Considering you were an early adopter with the first gen, waiting a few model years for Toyota to add some extras like brembos and factory TRD goodies to give you a better package out of the box.
Savagegeese having an old war flashback getting into a *new* gr86
Those helmets, between the size and weight, increased the center of gravity and added at least 1 second/lap🤔
I've waited for this car for a long time. Happy with the price point even if it is out of my range slightly. Just some more saving to do. But what I really love is how everyone says it drives so far. My fastest car right now has 255 hp from 1996 so this seems like a fun upgrade while still keeping the rwd platform of my previous cars. Can't wait to get behind the wheel
Jack……That helmet on your head. Lol.
Yup 🤣🤣🤣
You’re reviews are so good. Such a good balance…. You need a show!!!
Based upon the Dr. Goose Laff-O-Meter, this must be one helluva car.
Thanks for this.
I love these cars. I drive mine all year with a good set of snow tires for the winter. The update looks good, though not different enough for me to want to upgrade my current one.
Just a quick question since I’m thinking of purchasing one, with good snow tires, is it still drivable in the winter?
Love the videos. Been waiting on this for a long time
A car I would love to own. Get rid of the horrible fake engine noise though. Crazy to me Toyota expects low manual take rate. BRZ was usually 75%+ in the past. Can't wait for your full review!
I feel kinda dirty after watching Jack and Mark perform what is essentially an automotive dutch rudder.
you guys stepped it up to a whole new level with this review, really amazing. So much genuine humor, technical meat, on-point observations. Best reviewers in the business, Chris Harris level all day, but more entertaining, Harris never made me laugh.
