Do not use compressed air and do not use a brush, only if it’s to loosen up dust that a vacuum is having trouble suctioning up. If you only use a brush and compressed air you’ll push all the dust down and into the power supply vents. If the dust gets into the power supply, there’s no getting it out.
refurbished is supposed to mean that the machine was cleaned and repaired if needed back to factory specs. in this case going further and actually cleaning out the dust was apparently too much for them. you can clean that up without having to remove the heatsink. (compressed air and a brush do wonders.) makes me wonder if goodwill and gamestop use the same employees lol
They don't do any of things you mentioned. I purchased 5 consoles in 12 months after a house fire to replace mine and my kids, and all of the "refurbished" ones I got, were literally visually checked and/or just packaged in game stop boxes. When I kept asking why did the consoles felt just used and reboxed, the manager told me that all they do is quick visual inspection and just make sure that it turns on. They tell people that they do but they don't and it clearly shows on this video.
Come on now goodwill at least looks at the items they resell don't disrespect them lol. Refurbished doesn't have the same value as you think it dose. It's a quick look over buy it back for less than 50% value resell it for 90% value it's about profits not quality.
I had a house fire back in '19 and lost everything. I started out by buying a refurbished one from Game Stop. When I got home with the console, even though it said refurbished, I noticed that the consoles weren't cleaned out, the cables were all twisted up, and the controller felt very worn. When I went back and asked for another one, I checked it and the same thing. After pressing the matter and getting upset at the store, the store manager finally told me that they just go to a general warehouse where l they do plug them in to test them and maybe do a visual inspection of the hardware. There's no taking them apart or reconditioning them, no cleaning out the dirt marks from the controllers...they literally just make sure they turn on, and push them right back out on one of their boxes. I won't ever be buying anything refurbished, it's pretty disappointing already when you have to settle for something used, now imagined not reconditioned?!?!?

The gamestop I work at is strict about cleanliness. We don't even take some systems if they're too scratched up. We've never used magic erasers, and I didn't even know that was a thing lol. We personally clean our systems like new but we know most of the other ones in our area barely clean they're systems. It's a store to store thing unfortunately.
I worked at GameStop for many years (many years ago). I eventually held a store manager position and we hated these corporate refurbs. We would push used (or new in many cases due to price) because we knew when cleaned them and tested them as well (if not better).
@@2hile322 Right! We sold so few refurbs that we rarely got more than 1-2 in at a time. This may have changed but we just wanted to take better care of the customers. It was less of a headache in the future.
Than you would be a fool then to pay that much for this. You can get a brand new one for just $10 more. How badly they scratched up up and how dirty it was, this console isn't worth no $490 whether it work or not. You need to learn the value of money. It simply doing the bare minium of "working" doesn't justify that resall price. Not refurbished console in this condition should only be $10 less than retain. Should be way more cheaper than that.
GameStop is pretty much a joke at this point. I’m surprised they are even still around with so many people just purchasing digital versions of games nowadays.
This is why I always buy new. I purchased two PS5 last year...both directly from the playstation network. It takes time, but you can do it. Once a system comes available, you have to jump on it. I paid $399 digital PS5 for my son plus tax, it was about $435. Brand new and works perfectly. I purchased a non-digital PS5 for my nephew for about $599 plus tax around $640. Brand new and no problems. Jacob paid $490 for a refurbished and it looks like junk.
Man I would take that back once I saw all that dust buildup. But what do you tell GameStop? Because once you say you opened it they may not let you return it.
I got digital version ragnarok bundle for about $495 from target. And 5% off with target card so it was $470. And you’re telling me refurbished consoles are going for $490?!?!?!
I think the ppl for the most part that still shop at GameStop don't partake in their buy sell trade of used stuff. Anyone with the slightest self-respect would never go back after being offered $1.67 for a game that's right there on there shelf for $20, AND without a case!
It is not the fact that they bought from gamestop it is the fact that they bought a refurbished console. I did have a couple refurbished handheld console from gamestop many many years ago. But times have changed, they have dropped the ball.
I can't, and will NEVER buy used systems or controllers from there or anywhere. I gladly gave my thanksgiving last year from 7am to 7pm 1st in line to buy 2 of them beauties. Love it. Absolutely sexy console and very awesome to play.
My ps4 slim fan sounds like that and I bought it brand new, it's been making that noise for as long as I can remember and I've never had an issue with it
Gamestop must update their prices again. I was at one just before Christmas and a used one was going for $400. And that came with either one newer game or 2 launch games.
He included tax, I believe. Which means a new PS5 would have cost about $530. It's still (generally) not a good deal though, as you have no idea what condition a pre-owned console might be in. It's a real gamble. As for why he did it anyway, I'm pretty sure he wasn't trying to get his hands on his first PS5, but rather, the point of his videos is to buy used and refurbished products and evaluate / test them.
@@dsweet5859 I almost applied at a GameStop for a second one day a week job so I could get discounts on games but looked into the company and was disgusted with the stuff I read and heard
Here's a big problem with GameStop. Now I haven't worked there in about 5 years so things may be a little bit different but it seems like the same things are still going on is when I work there. They sell two different kinds of used consoles. One of them is certified pre owned, this means when we took it from the customer it was already reasonably clean and there was nothing on the console that was defective or faulty and all the accessories and cables were included with it. The second type is certified refurbished, these were consoles that we took that had defects, missing components or accessories, or were disgustingly dirty beyond being able to blow some air through the fans and wipe them down with sanitary wipes. Those systems went to the refurbishing center at a warehouse in texas where they were given a "refurbish" generally this involved a quick clean, testing, and repacking with new accessories and cables. We charged the same price for either console because the inventory was sporadic. Some days we would have one refurbished ps4 available and no pre owneds or vice versa. I noticed when you took it out of the box it was in a pre-owned box not a refurbished box meeting they was repackaging this store and didn't actually get repackaged at the refurbishing Warehouse. This was my biggest complaint and why I actually ended up leaving the company we did sell two different types of products for the same price but we did not honor the customer's request of which one they wanted if somebody came in and said I want a refurbished PS4 nobody took the time to make sure that that customer got a refurbished PS4 if there was a pre-owned PS4 sitting on the back shelf ready to go. They do have pre-owned and refurbished consoles and from my experience the actually refurbished-consoles are generally pretty clean and work very well. The problem being that they don't always send refurbished-consoles when that's what someone orders The interchange them with a pre-owned console which is not right.
Who the heck when to Blockbuster? Hollywood Video was the place to go. And Game stop is no different. Blockbuster/Hollywood video will have the same fond memories of going into the story and selecting out a few used games. They both have their positive and negative. Both are good childhood memories and as well has their cons.
My GameStop stores got a lot of PS5 consoles used does that mean go buy them ? are you trying to see if they bought broken consoles from customers I just don’t see any reason to why I would want a used PS5 their all in stock everywhere
Gamestop is now at a point were it is officially a complete joke. They use no packaging anymore as you all can see. Same happened to me, but WORSE. I went to my local GS and traded a near mint console and got a disgusting, grimmy, console with cracks all over the vents. It had dust all inside of it, It also had the serial number completely rubbed off. It had liquid Goo on it also. I took it directly back into the store to here gamestop's oddball employee excuses. It was pretty embarrassing to have to do to be honest but I dont give a F. Once they saw how Fu*kd this this really was. The gamestop manager acted as if he was going to yell at someone but was acting weird. He falsely acted befuddled and changed it out for a mint condition one as the one I traded was. It was a joke of a experience and I could only imagine how they would have called me a liar if I went all the way home to open it up. There wasn't even a Serial number on the console. Beware and buy at your own risk folks.
I work at GameStop and I can tell you that if we get a console that isn’t actually malfunctioning, best we do is clean off the dust and dirt from the surface. No one has enough time to properly clean the console.
Every refurbished product I’ve ever bought had this cheap metallic smell or radiation it gave off, I stay clear of anything like that - I literally get nauseous when it’s turned on from what it gives off and no one ever understood what I was talking about
I love these videos and I hate GameStop as much as the next person but fair is fair... this was a "certified pre-owned" system not a "refurbished" one. They are two completely different things. The former means it's a used console turned in that didn't need any work done to it to function while the latter means it was repaired to a certain extent.
as a gs employee, true. there are consoles we just visually check and clean and sell. but, there are times we mark the console defective and send it to our warehouse, who ACTUALLY REPAIR AND CLEAN IT.
If they use sandpaper it’s because the person who sold it to GameStop was already in bad shape and it was already scratched. So they sand the whole thing down to make it look “even”. It’s not because of dust lol.
I personally kinda like the matte finish the glossy part has to it now, but I also think they should never have tampered with it at the same time. Since I can't see it IRL too, I'm guessing it looks disgusting in person, but it does look quite nice from the perspective I can see.
@@jrob0021 I imagine if I could see it in real life, I'd probably say the same thing, but the perspective from the camera, makes it look like it's been given a brushed finish, like how you get brushed steel.
I was lucky to buy a PS5 in store at my local Best Buy in late August. I would tell anyone to be very reluctant to buy one from a 3rd party because the scalpers could easily report a console as stolen and you'd essentially be screwed and out a bunch of money.
Unfortunately my sister in law bought a refurb PS4 from GameStop and didn't get the warranty. It worked for a week or so but after that anytime she tried to play digital games, the game would crash. Tried a bunch of stuff with PlayStation Support and they ultimately told us it needed a new hard drive. She dropped $200 on getting a new hard drive only to get the system back with the same issue. Called PlayStation Support and they told it would need to be sent in for repairs again. Smh for GameStop refurb and poor PlayStation Support. I love PlayStation consoles and games, I was very sad about the Support experience though.
Not gonna lie, if the onlynissue is all that dust, then I’ma just take it outside and air that stuff out with an airblower of some sorts. But Gamestop really needs to do better than that. That was embarrassing.
This wouldn’t be a bad idea except if you pay that kind of money, you’d expect to at least not have to open the thing! That’s crazy and buying refurbished is never recommended

I bought mine on eBay, only when I got the package… it was full of bubble wrap and a note that said “In your dreams Baldie” it broke my heart. 😢
I can't speak to today but when I worked there, the smell was the chemicals and sanding process they used to get scuffs out.
@@MyLifePixeled As a current GameStop employee we also try to push our pre-owned clearly the GameStop he got this from was just lazy 😂😂
@@2hile322 Right! We sold so few refurbs that we rarely got more than 1-2 in at a time. This may have changed but we just wanted to take better care of the customers. It was less of a headache in the future.
I wish I had this chance to buy this, regardless of the scratches or boxing i’ll just be happy it works
PlayStation direct has ps5 in stock for retail
What’s sad is last that I checked someone traded that console in for around $300 in credit….
Store display model maybe? I took my console apart the other day to clean it and it wasn't bad at all.
Strange packaging? That's how it comes only thing different is the blue GameStop box
I ordered one from GameStop recently and it came in fine.
A week ago I got a brand new ps5 disc version for $480 at Walmart.
GameStop is pretty much a joke at this point. I’m surprised they are even still around with so many people just purchasing digital versions of games nowadays.
The scratches doesnt care if the system works at 100% is okay to me
Wow, I keep forgetting how huge the system is.
for real...
I use to work at GameStop. Sometimes those consoles go from off the customers hands to straight into the refurbished box.
When you return it that’s a whopping $32.50 store credit.
I got mine without a bundle $399 plus tax which was $430
GameStop: We said refurbished not cleaned... WTF... 😱
Every time I go into GameStop there is always, always one person buying a refurbished PS5 always.
ngl, that brushed aluminium look for the middle part doesn't look bad lol. If it was real brushed aluminium it would look awesome.
It isn't that hard to buy somewhere else than gamestop, yet people still buy from them. Edit: Refurbished gamestop consoles
@@SourStrawberrys Yes
@@SourStrawberrys I ment refurbished consoles in general from them
@@Warp2090 Don't buy a refurbished console anywhere. They all have the same risk of people half doing the job
sharing this with all the homies! thanks man:)
I can't, and will NEVER buy used systems or controllers from there or anywhere. I gladly gave my thanksgiving last year from 7am to 7pm 1st in line to buy 2 of them beauties. Love it. Absolutely sexy console and very awesome to play.
Since you have two, will you sell one?
My ps4 slim fan sounds like that and I bought it brand new, it's been making that noise for as long as I can remember and I've never had an issue with it
I got my series x refurbished from gamestop and tbh it was flawless
A buddy of mine bought a refurbished Series X from GameStop, when he got it a dead roach was stuck in the top vent🤢🤢🤢
Most "Refurbished" consoles from GameStop aren't really refurbished
You should show you taking it apart instead of just cutting to it because makes it look fake
Just clean the power supply , and heat skink and it’ll be fine
Gamestop must update their prices again. I was at one just before Christmas and a used one was going for $400. And that came with either one newer game or 2 launch games.
The desperation the man must've had to sell his ps5 to gamestop.
Stolen
Separately, why the hell would you spend 490 on a used PS5, when you can get one new for 10 dollars more?
He included tax, I believe. Which means a new PS5 would have cost about $530. It's still (generally) not a good deal though, as you have no idea what condition a pre-owned console might be in. It's a real gamble.
As for why he did it anyway, I'm pretty sure he wasn't trying to get his hands on his first PS5, but rather, the point of his videos is to buy used and refurbished products and evaluate / test them.
As a GameStop employee I'm not surprised in the least. I trust the ones i take for trade more than anything from the refurb center i hate those mfs
That sucks. GameStop is clearly an evil company with evil secrets
Unlike Blockbuster, I don't think people will be looking fondly back at Gamestop unless they profited off that squeeze.
Who the heck when to Blockbuster? Hollywood Video was the place to go. And Game stop is no different. Blockbuster/Hollywood video will have the same fond memories of going into the story and selecting out a few used games. They both have their positive and negative. Both are good childhood memories and as well has their cons.
@@SourStrawberrys Hollywood video and game crazy was the shizz 17 years ago
I dont care about the scratches as long as the hardware is working fine but 500$ is way too much for a second hand unit.
You know he got like $10 in store credit for it!
That's bullshit, they probably only gave 150 for it
I bought my ps5 from GameStop brand new, overall I'm satisfied with it
My GameStop stores got a lot of PS5 consoles used does that mean go buy them ? are you trying to see if they bought broken consoles from customers I just don’t see any reason to why I would want a used PS5 their all in stock everywhere
Things like that is why I will never go to GameStop and buy anything they're so horrible anymore
How the hell can you manage to constantly buy things? You'd must be a millionaire, i go broke and homeless if i buy things everyday.
Yt and his website.
Me too I could barely afford the PS5 that I bought recently 😂😂
We sell 99% of what's featured on the channel, plus the videos and sponsorships obviously bring in income. Trust me, we're no millionaires lol
@@DannyTheEditor Thanks for the info that makes sense but overall love the content especially from Goodwill and Gamestop.
that absolutely is cigarette dust i have 15 years of experience opening and fixing consoles
It wouldn't surprise me if gamestop stared using sandpaper to "buff out" scratches on traded in consoles.
Lmaoooo or alcohol to clean the motherboard
I work at GameStop and I can tell you that if we get a console that isn’t actually malfunctioning, best we do is clean off the dust and dirt from the surface. No one has enough time to properly clean the console.
Every refurbished product I’ve ever bought had this cheap metallic smell or radiation it gave off, I stay clear of anything like that - I literally get nauseous when it’s turned on from what it gives off and no one ever understood what I was talking about
GameStop magic eraser to the consoles
Traded my series s in and used my GameStop points and got a disc with a controller for 400 flat brand new
Nice, I got a clean one last April for 480 lmao
The reaction Jacob gave after seeing the heat sink was so funny I was crying ☠️
Now I'm just wandering if you actually did get a refund or not😅
I probably played Astros play world for 30+ hours lol
I love these videos and I hate GameStop as much as the next person but fair is fair... this was a "certified pre-owned" system not a "refurbished" one. They are two completely different things. The former means it's a used console turned in that didn't need any work done to it to function while the latter means it was repaired to a certain extent.
every single pre owned console sent to gamestop gets sent to a refurbishment center before resell. This is a refurbished one.
as a gs employee, true. there are consoles we just visually check and clean and sell. but, there are times we mark the console defective and send it to our warehouse, who ACTUALLY REPAIR AND CLEAN IT.
I just bought one on Walmart a couple of weeks ago brand new for 559$. The disc model
Lmao that magic eraser tech. I'm surprise that they don't put wax on it to make it shinny hahahaha
Lol that would be funny
If they use sandpaper it’s because the person who sold it to GameStop was already in bad shape and it was already scratched. So they sand the whole thing down to make it look “even”. It’s not because of dust lol.
I personally kinda like the matte finish the glossy part has to it now, but I also think they should never have tampered with it at the same time. Since I can't see it IRL too, I'm guessing it looks disgusting in person, but it does look quite nice from the perspective I can see.
There's matte black skins that look amazing, I was able to get the dbrand plates
If done very carefully, a matte black look on the black strip does look cool. But with GameStop scratching it in all different directions, it’s meh
@@jrob0021 I imagine if I could see it in real life, I'd probably say the same thing, but the perspective from the camera, makes it look like it's been given a brushed finish, like how you get brushed steel.
@@jrob0021 throw some vinyl on it
I was lucky to buy a PS5 in store at my local Best Buy in late August. I would tell anyone to be very reluctant to buy one from a 3rd party because the scalpers could easily report a console as stolen and you'd essentially be screwed and out a bunch of money.
Guilty pleasure watching these videos. Always confirms my biases for sure.
I'd never buy from scratcher shop 😂
Why do they always mess up the refurbishing
Not gonna lie, if the onlynissue is all that dust, then I’ma just take it outside and air that stuff out with an airblower of some sorts.
But Gamestop really needs to do better than that. That was embarrassing.
This wouldn’t be a bad idea except if you pay that kind of money, you’d expect to at least not have to open the thing! That’s crazy and buying refurbished is never recommended
Now it makes sense why my wiiU was so scratched up when I got it from GameStop back in 2014
Ah man, lmao its almost always something sketchy when it comes to GameStop refurbished. 😂
I used to work at GS...for years thru college. 95% of refurbished systems were returned! This gives me PTSD.
Gamestop rips you off a lot. Years ago I traded a stack of Xbox One games that cost 59.99 each. They only gave me around 40.00 for all 10 games
