- I bought another refurbished console from GameStop, and this time I decided to pick up a refurbished DIGITAL PS5 console from gamestop! GameStop is notorious for messing up their refurbished consoles, so let's see what they did this time...

I learned years ago not to buy anything refurbished. I spent 700 dollars on a Samsung S8+, would drop calls after about 3 minutes. Just pay the few extra dollars and save yourself the hassle.
It looks like they only had to refurbish the controller and clean the exterior of the console. The stickers are Gamestop's internal parts ID numbers to show what was worked on. My guess would be they replaced the thumb stick caps after the original owner wore the top of them out (somehow) or the more likely option of their pet chewing them off.
I bought a pack of cheap universal rubber caps because my cat kept trying to chew on the sticks, especially the PS5 ones for some reason. Thankfully she's only around my desk when I'm in the room, so she always gets caught right away. But if she does ever manage to damage something, now it's just a cheap throwaway bit of rubber, instead of a $70 controller.
Ended up putting some better KontrolFreek ones on my PS5 and Series S controllers. Nice little upgrade, and still a lot cheaper to replace than a controller.
Wouldn’t they have to take the controller apart to replace the thumb stick? Unless there’s a way to just replace the cap without taking the controller apart. I really hope they didn’t open up that controller and leave it that dirty 😂

What gamestop does a little better than DKOldies is they actually respond to feedback and try to improve unlike DKOldies where they try to sweep the problem under the rug and hopes it gets forgotten about.
Every Game Stop can and will work with someone who has been having issues with their consoles. So long as you have proof of purchase or a warranty, you are going to receive help!

And oldies wonders why gamestop looks better then them as of late at least when gamestop screws up they dont sweep it under the rug or expect a payment for the possible mistake they know they make oldies just wants to act like they can do no wrong and expect payment anyway 😂

A refurbished at this price would of been appealing during the shortage, but now that the ps5 is readily available just buy one new. Minimal risks involved.
As someone who works for Game Stop as a SGA, I would 9/10 recommend a used console over a refurbished one. Just because if you trust your Game Stop Associates, they will properly clean the console and dust it out with our air blower. At the location that I work at, we are *VERY* adamant on NOT using a magic eraser due to seeing videos like this. I want to keep my reputation as a retailer and make sure my word still holds value.
Unfortunately, GS does use magic erasers as the standard because they rather have the console be as clean as possible. To that, the system also does not appear to be consistent, again, I work retail store, so I do not know what our warehouse employees do, but I will give an update when I find out!
Yeah I’m assuming all of the consoles I’ve purchased from them have been from their warehouse? Since I always buy online from their site. Just my guess, but I’m sure you know better than me. Pretty much every refurbished console I’ve purchased from GameStop has been magic erasered (except maybe 1 or 2 consoles)
Also an SGA, can confirm. If it needs magic eraser, it needs a spray cloth after. Period. We don't like that film it leaves, but it's so good getting buffs out.
If the sony stickers are already gone, I'll CLEAN it myself. If they're in tact, ill use the blower.

That’s the same thing they told me two weeks ago, the refurbished console shut down after an hour and a half of playing spider man miles morales and I had to go the next day and get a new one, also everything inside the box was loose, no packaging, just the box

As a former GS manager of 10 years. Anything coming from the warehouse will be refurbished. Wether it be the stores took it in as “defective” for missing components, dirty, or doesn’t work properly. The store gets the “refurb fee” credited to their bottom line on their profit report. Once it’s at the warehouse they will fix, clean, or simply put a new accessory with it and send it out as refurbished. Pre owned is when the store determines its running properly and the store boxes it up and sells it as pre owned. The warehouse will test it again when it gets there to see what the issue is. And they will then determine how far they need to refurb the system. A refurb through them can literally to be just clean the outside. I went to the “roc” (their refurbishment center, as they called it 7 years ago. Back then it was a crazy nice advanced place. But I’m sure now with all their budget cuts it’s not anywhere near what it once was
Also those stickers on the controller are their “refurbished” stickers it’s kinda like their “dk oldies warranty” sticker. They just throw them on there when they put them through their refurbishing process.

I've used magic eraser on practically every surface in my house and have never once had it scratch something... unless they suddenly added a grit to magic erasers, I'm confused how a soft spongey cleaner is scratching plastic.
Maybe they're using those super cheap dish sponges from the gas station? I've seen those scratch ask kinds of stuff
The stickers on the controllers mean that it was refurbished. It comes from the department known as "ROC" where employees send defective items for them to be refurbished.
For what they charge for their "used" and "refurbished" products, they should definitely open and clean the controller. Also using a proper cleaning method is a must. These issues persist across many stores selling used and refurbished consoles.

As a current gamestop employee, there are a few reasons we take defective consoles in as trades that end up refurbished, 1. Something wrong with the console (disk drive hdmi port, etc.) 2. Console looks like it's been beaten to hell, and there's a lot of surface damage to the console. 3. The controller it that was traded in with it was defective.
Now understand that when consoles are traded into us, we do not demand that people have original cables with it, just needs functioning cables, we do however demand that the controllers be wireless and not off brand meaning powerA or something like that. Also, when a console is traded into us, if the controller is defective, we have to take the whole trade as defective, even if the console is perfectly fine.

So coming from you. They are selling a refurbished one for 350 and I was contemplating getting it because at Walmart and farther they either dont have brand new or it’s 550-600 dollars which I really didn’t wanna pay. Would u recommend getting one from GS
What gets me is my local GameStop sells cleaning wipes. I bought some an they worked great on my controller, an cellphone. Why don’t they use those wipes to clean up the console?
These type of refurbished consoles are almost always handled by warehouse. I'm sure they have their reasons, but most of us don't really know their repair/refurbish process. I'm assuming they do this to remove any gunk from the previous owner, even if I personally think it's extreme and very unappealing
I've been binging these "refurbished console" videos for a while now and I applaud these tech reviewers for calling out companies with shady business practices (DK Oldies ehem ehem).
However, I think it would make reviewers seem a lot less biased if they'd say "this is good" or "they did well here" instead of backhanded complements like "it's weirdly clean" or "this was either properly cleaned or I just got lucky" when these companies actually do a good job.
Give credit where it's due, and keep sticking it to 'em when they deserve it.

When I use to work for Gamestop I never had to use magic erasers to clean consoles or controllers... I was told to use Lysol wipes and squeeze out the soap and bleach water to wipe down the systems. Also, do you remember the Dentist using that pointy metal thing to clean your teeth? Yeah, we had that and I used that to get the hand grease and gunk out the controllers, etc. I always made sure not to send out a console to customers who purchased Used or refurbished all messed up or not cleaned.
I got told to stop doing that extra stuff cause it took up too much time lol. Btw I did the basic cleaning not taking the console apart just regular cleaning

The numbers are to identify the person that refurbed the item. Sometimes if you were to buy like a wallet or a pair of jean you might find a little piece of paper that says inspected by so and so. Its the same idea.
I live in the UK and I want to travel to the US for the sole purpose of removing all magic erasers from GameStop. This is single handedly the most atrocious thing I’ve ever seen.

Stickers could be one of two things. (Tech numbers or part numbers) I never worked warehouse just managed a store.

haha we have monitors set up under the camera that show the camera view and console gameplay when needed. I actually take the recorded gameplay and overlay it onto the screen in the background myself. The monitor is always displaying a green screen in reality.

I remember getting a used ps3 from GameStop and it was just sitting down in the box without any protection around it and the wires and controller was just on top of it.
Cleaned and labeled as Refurbished so they can charge more than that of a used unit.
Random question but do you know where to get extra stands for PS5? I know there are plenty on ebay and such but jw which ones are legit built well.
I'd rather have a console with marks on it than one that's been cleaned with a Magic Eraser.
Seems like magic eraser is a bad idea with glossy plastic, just curious what is the best way to clean? Is there a common tactic?
Glossy surfaces are a tough one. Personally, I would just lightly clean a glossy surface with a microfiber cloth if it doesn’t have many scratches. If it already has a lot of scratches, I usually wipe it down with a wet wipe and then immediately wipe with a microfiber cloth to remove any streaking. Magic eraser should really be a last resort. But this conundrum is why I prefer matte consoles over glossy
IPA and a microfiber cloth does a pretty good job. Soap & water for spot cleaning if needed. There isn't much that those 2 methods can't clean that a Magic Eraser can instead.
I use a microfibre cloth and diluted bleach water. Leaves things streak free and disinfected. I use this method with everything I buy used or everything I refurbish. Hope this helps!

The stickers mean they checked the analogs for stick drift with a computer.

so how does magic eraser leave scratches and such? i work for a company called sosa games and we use magic eraser to clean controllers/consoles.
Off topic but interesting to know that Sosa Games is a company and not just two or three people running a business, I've had them buy my eBay listings a few times and see their amazon listings from time to time.

Both of my brand new dualsense controller developed stick drift and other problems within like 2 months of light use
Not surprised when my dad traded in his ps4 (never cleaned in its 5 years) they plugged it in, it turned on, they plugged the controller, it worked next day we saw it on the shelves

They remind me of guitar center, where the employees seem like people from Kmart or Walmart instead of guitar techs, same thing at a lot of GameStop's out there, they just have the job to get paid, but don't really help people like they used to, they used to be the only place I shopped and did gaming business. Now they suck, and I wouldn't buy anything used from em except for discs, that way I can see the disc.

My console came from gamestop refurbished and it works perfect for me. I got mine for 230 its a series s. No issues so far only had it for 2 weeks.

Usually, I prefer refurbished over new because most places also typically fix any manufacturer defects in the refurbish process.
GS - for now, do not get from GS. However, I will say that they are working on fixing the issue.

Those stickers are an indicator that they were checked by their QA team. Different numbers mean they were checked by different employees. In case something goes wrong and they have to be traced back to who finalized it.

The issue here is how to we take what 'Refurbish' means?! - Refurbish is to brighten or freshen up. Overhaul is to repair, to renovate, remake, revise, or renew thoroughly.

Why is it certified pre owned. Is there a scam going on with people receiving a brand new PS5 instead of a refurbished console.
I use 91% Isopropyl alcohol and jumbo cotton balls to clean used systems and controllers. I use tooth picks to scrape out thar gunk in the seams, and clean was left of that with a cotton swab.
I bought a refurbished PS4 from GameStop a couple months after it was released the charged me about $400 and I opened it it one of the rubber grips on the joysticks were worn out decided not to get a refurbished system again I rather get it brand new fresh out of the box

Local used electronic store had a digital for $350. After trading my PS4 towards it. Only paid $250 for it before taxes. I was lucky and it had nothing wrong with it and seemed good as new! Even so with, with the potential flaws on the outside of the console. And the possibility of an even more discount from trade-ins. This is a steal for the console from gamestop.
I should buy one just to buy me the disk drive that's coming out.
What Sony should do is if u own both disk and digital version of the ps5 allow games on the disk version which u installed to be played on the digital

My PS4 kept freezing about 2 months ago and the controller shutting off plus Wifi connection lost. Had it for 8 years which doesn't surprise me, my PS3 from 2008 works. It was time for me to get a PS5 though got lucky with Best Buy.
Getting stick drift would piss me off. In other words its just better to spend the extra $50 and buy brand new because you'd need to buy a new controller anyways.
I literally only go to GameStop for their Star Wars and gaming franchise merchandise they carry. I don’t buy games there anymore.

I have a GameStop refurbished Wii U where they took magic eraser to the console and it looks terrible. The system still works though so can't complain too much.
Honestly the controller looks better glossy for me but finger prints are a issue so I Don’t Know i just think glossy looks good instead of a matte finish tbh…
I bought a used ps5 the first just came with brown paper sheet so things didn’t move around. The stuff raddled around for sure. But yo the console was filthy with dust and underside the white area was covered in yellow/orange probably from a smoker house. When I was setting it up the ps5 would only stay on for 5 minutes because it would get too hot. I thought it would get hot because of the area I had in. It wasn’t it was just to filthy, I called in and let them know what was going on with it they told me to bring it in and they checked if they had more in the back they did. I don’t know why they didn’t they give one from the back. They gave me the display one. The 2nd one o got front then it still came in in a normal box with a paper sheet to keep it from moving around it still did. But this ps5 is clean like it’s brand new no scratches either and I got money back too. This ps5 works like new for sure I’m happy with it.

Funny enough no shop in uk does it until now I bought a tv remote one you can’t buy anymore as it’s a old tv and don’t like new remotes so stuck to same one and they done it to the remote magic eraser all over it looks awful if wondering the shop was cex never known company’s in the uk to do this but they do now obviously taking tips bloody awful

Wonder if it would help or be better if gaming companies had filters for dust that you clean or replace once a month like a air conditioner to keep dust out but I guess it’s job security dust breaks consoles and most people just get a new one = more consoles sold
I doubt Sony or Microsoft care to sell consoles to people who already have them. They barely makw any money on consoles or even take a loss but make money selling games and subscriptions
