doctorlobsteroctopus I feel the same way... You got guys who use dildos to lower a vehicle and purposely ruin good cars and they get tons of views and have more subs. I enjoy this channel they cover such a wide variety of vehicles and have support from the best companies. I think Speed Academy should colab with some other Channels who have a larger following like mabey Super Speeders Rob or that dude in blue
MistaDrifta i personally don't think they would mix well as Rob mainly deals with the more expensive cars and dude in blue just mostly drives and reviews other peoples cars (like the smoking tire does). The only channels that focus on building track cars like SA are VTEC Academy (even tho they hardly upload stuff), CZero Media (mostly just building his varied array of cars and vlogging his trips to car scenes internationally) and a few others, but those guys definitely don't have more subs than Speed Academy. This channel is aimed more for living vicariously through them rather than just watching them with cars like those other channels.

I had a Honda prelude in 1990 drove a new civic over the same road this weekend and it was like stepping back in time.
New doesn't mean faster, it's how you build it, you can use a 90's shell with 2020 k24 engine, and those new type r won't stand a chance

What I like is that unlike a lot of American youtubers who seem to be more focused on shouting at the camera and making caricatures of themselves, you guys are just straight up car guys who give us great information. As for the car, man if that new Civic Type R sounded like the Integra..that would be perfection right there. I still got the feels for the Integra

Never had a Type-R but had 2 GS and 1 GS-R and I miss 'em so much. They were my fav cars and i drive a 08 G35 now. No comparaison of course but feeling wise my G doesn't beat the integras. I've always love the steering feel and the body of the old integras and the hatchback w a double 12" subs in the back makes great road companions. Such Classics! I too had a tear down my eye during the lap.
Im old school, Im sure the ctr is faster and better. But id still take the old itr over the new ctr!
silversolb18 i dont know why the new civic SI and Type R have a Subaru look to it they trying to make a rally car ? They are nice but I prefer the old EK9 Type R from Japan and The Acura And Honda Integra Type R’s and the RSX Type S
You can make the ITR just as quick relatively easily... Newer cars are just built for economy, safety, practicality. It's an accident of time that they're faster. Don't believe the modern misconceptions most performance mainly comes down to only a few elements, tires, dampers, brakes, diff and obviously power to weight...

Our buddy Turtle has a K swapped ITR...that would be a good match up against the ass2000 once we get the motor fixed. Definitely something to add to our To-Do List.
Gr8 review of the two Type R's and I'm glad they put someone behind the wheel who knows at minimum the basics of how to drive a car, especially around a track. Using TWO HANDS and crossing your arms and not taking your hands off the wheel to take sharp turns is how one should race around a real race car track and the things you said actually had purpose and validity. Way late to the party but my 01 ITR had 162 kms when I bought it. A year prior when the seller first thought about selling it had 142kms !! He did a lot of commuting and driving in one year. I dont commute in mine but I do fun drives, autox and lapping days.
I wanna see the Integra on better tires then....push'em both to the limit....The Integra has my heart.

and you could easily take any dc chassis and make it faster than the new ctr. imagine an itr with proper suspension, k20 swap, weight reduction etc. just look at the sportcar motion integra or the realtime racing integra. i imagine a ctr is much harder to make faster than it already is without really tearing apart the car. but sure for a daily driver im not putting miles on a real dc2 r.
and yes the rear end of the civic makes me want to puke. i thought evos and stis were pushing it but the ctr takes the cake for one of the most tasteless, juvenile designs ive ever laid eyes on.
Dave it's really awesome to hear you talk about the new CTR like it's got some fizz for you! Having Honda come back around to more of the performance side of things is a real joy for all us fanboys. Equally great to hear that after all that progress in the new car, the original Integra Type R can still bring that tear to your eye and be such a fun car in it's own right.

Well Honda are creaming it in - Indy car, WTCC, BTCC , GT500 etc etc.. who fucken cares about F1.. lol funny how people hate on Honda cuz of F1 when they smash everything else with cars closer to real world examples.
Yeah, they are doing great getting back into all the racing categories. I wasn't hating on them in F1 in the slightest. Just saying they need more time to get it going. I think a lot of people care about F1.
Honda has done well in Indy but the earthquake messed up alot for them and Japan. If they stick with it they will do fine cant blame it all on Honda right now anyways.

Thanks for such an awesome video! I've always said if I suddenly came into big money the very first thing I'd do is find the cleanest itr I could. With that said I've also liked the new ctr and wasn't bothered by it being modernized, understanding it it has to be relevant. Your video showed these two cars are far more similar than I realized. For a turbo car with a significantly lower red line and vetc on the exhaust cam only that thing sounds great. Not quite as good as the b18c5, but not many engines will ever touch that sound.

It's not 20 years of progress. You put a turbo on that 90's type R and you'd cut 7 seconds too...
Remember the stock ITR wheels are 15"x6" with 195mm tyre compared to 20x9 with 245 on the CTR, so you'd probably want to upgrade the wheels too.
And take off another 7 sec.. lol
slap in a k24 from a tsx. stage 3 cams. tune. 300whp 200tq. all motor ftw.
Get into and accident and you’ll see the progress

We have another CTR vs the world episode coming Sunday, though not with the 5 Day EK Coupe. I have done a 1:22 in Pete's bro's EK though, so very close to the CTR on lap time.
Maybe you could comment on the CTR vs your S2000 build since it looks like the built S2k was actually faster on the track. With prices for S2ks going up, esp in the USA, the comparison kinda makes sense. Sorta.

So basically: If you want the performance of the new civic type R for a third of the price: Integra type R is the solution.
The thing is though: Even though he would rather have the Civic type R, he would wish that he had the integra type r every day he was driving it.
Have you seen the prices for a b18c5 integra type r? Can’t find one under $25,000, good conditioned ones start over $35,000. Not exactly a third of the price.

Had a DC2 for 17 years but seriously fancy the FK8. If only its engine sounded as good as the b18c and the back end looked a bit better how awesome would that be. You are right progress is progress. Still a stripped and caged k20 dc2 makes a good track car.

Heat soak happens when you idle for a long time. So in a drag strip, idling in line, or just idling before the race.
Look at how fat new versions of older cars have become.

Alex ander I change my opinion now that it’s been 2 years aha.. the 10 gens have grown on me. I worked at Honda dealership and have driven type Rs a number of times, they are awesome. Yet, I still don’t think I would be happy buying one for sticker there’s to many alternatives out there. 2011 down are still my favourite Honda’s tho

i totally agree, comparing a 200hp n/a car to w 300hp turbo car is kinda silly... turbo the dc2 and tune it to 300hp and we all know who would win! it would come down to power/weight ratio at that point and the new CTR weighs 3100lbs...
I have the 2001 integra type R. Bought it brand new 19 years ago. I can’t let go. It’s so much fun to drive. I’ve tried new cars but they don’t come close believe me!
