RIP R-02232 October 25th, 2020. Transmission was completely toast at that point also and Honda still said no! “Ask your mon please but she still said no!” - Evan, owner of car in video. Thanks for everyone’s positive and negative comments, I love you all ❤️
The content is great really and his way with words is good as well, but I don't like the way he presents it to you, his general robot-like facial and verbal expression throughout almost all his videos is slightly off-putting, I would still put Henry Catchpole as the best reviewer.
@@matthewwong1326 that's exactly what I like about this video (not a regular viewer fwiw) he doesn't put a show or trying too hard, it's really good informational content with a bit of humor.
I absolutely LOVE this car and appreciate Honda for finally sending it over here. The performance and driving experience you get for your money is outstanding. The car is also beautiful to look at wing and all. Why buy a "hot" hatch if you want it to look like a cold or lukewarm hatch?
That rear wing is a deal-breaker. I don’t care how nice it drives if I look like a clown getting out of a bad joke of a car. Women are not going to have sex with me if I show up in a clown-mobile (translate this into Japanese, please).
You have to remember the CTR's styling fits in the context of the earlier 2010 Mugen CivIc Type R and the 2015 Civic Type R. The S2000 is certainly a more clean and minimalist design.
It's nice to see that Honda is going back to building fun cars again instead of automotive appliances. Now, they just need to go back to their subtle styling roots. Before I made it to the end of the video I was thinking to myself I wish they offered a "touring package" like Porsche does with the GT3. It's a really interesting car that bridges the gap between the Golf R and the Focus RS.
I really like your techical part of the review. Nobody lifts a car a show you how something works. As you know, these cars are driven on tracks a lot and some tracks are having high speed corners, where you need that rear end stability which wing brings. There is a lot of scientific test which explain how much wing is worth on fwd car too. Just take a look at time attach competition and it will be clear. This car without a wing would be ugly. Its not stylish car, but I love how its bold and in your face design. That’s type r. Its not aston martin, nobody drives R in a suit.
Frequent Fligher me too, its too much right now, but too clean (golf R clean) is boring too. One of the best driving features of fk8 is good stability on high speed braking. I have fn2 type R with supercharger and 370bhp, when I start braking from 200kmh and whant to prepare car for slow coorner 70-ish kmh) its drama! Fk8 is doing that easy.
This is the first video I've ever seen of yours, so forgive me for judging you from a single video. However, this is THE most through and thoughtful review I've ever seen on youtube. Seriously, besides seeing my favorite Randy Pobst on the track, you guys are making some EXCELLENT reviews. Please keep it up!!
The CTR is the best all around DD ever built. It's the king of affordable speed. In 2020 the next level up is about 70k and these are still 40. It's dominant over the competition, an STI feels like a tank in comparison. There is a reason the things lose almost nothing in resale. It is the DD perfected.
Agreed, I bought my 2019 Type R in September, I had a 2017 WRX STI... had to sell the STI... but not sad at all. The Type R just has superior driving dynamics. It really feels like a FWD Porsche GT3, every gear pulls hard. My STI was practically dead in 4th gear. I may go back to Subaru if they make the FA24 STI but until then it's all Type R.
@@taylorc2542 Nope, if you limit the car you drive based on age and what other people think you will be very miserable. I don't care if people don't like my car, I bought it for ME.
@@typerfk8 I like the spirit of the type R and I like Honda. I like what they are trying to do here and, functionally, I believe they achieved that. Setting aside that a compact isn't something I'm willing to tolerate at 6'2, I would have considered this car if the exterior design wasn't so overdone. That's not subjective either- the type R has far more styling than pretty much any other production vehicle out there (and certainly within its class). As a result it looks very immature, like something a teenager would drive. That's not to say that I wouldn't drive it because I'm worried about looking like a teenager; I'm saying it looks decorated by someone with (arguably) poor taste that didn't know when to quit, which is very common with kids and their cars. So when people say they don't want to drive it/call it a kid's car, that's my interpretation of it. If Honda reeled in the exterior a bit it would be more on par with the WRX or the like but still have its own unique look- I think it would then appeal to a larger audience. At the end of the day though, all that matters is whether or not you like it.
Ford focus RS owner confession: i really like this car. Over 60mph, this car kills my car. Couldn’t buy this car because the dealers wanted $7k plus premium over msrp. I am very impressed with what they did with a basic grocery getter. Also, what a great video! Keep them coming.
I enjoy letting people with nice cars drive my Type R. It always changes their opinion when they feel how hungry it is. Its just different strokes for different folks. I enjoy canyon drives and pushing corners and this car is giving me the most for my money with that as my goal. I do daily drive it and its really fun. It's not perfect but it covers a very broad spectrum of driving well.
What I love about this review is that it's about DRIVING the car and not a shallow look at it. When I test drove it this week (and I think the sales guy was going to throw up as I went into corners hard to see what happened...he kind of wobbled out after...) I immediately knew I had to have it - and did get it, a 2018. Absolutely everything this reviewer said about it's handling resonated with me. The look might be out of some 80/90s Macross anime, but it's just the best FWD I've ever driven. Just an awesome, awesome car. Thanks for a really comprehensive and USEFUL review.
I liked this video, not because I'm a Honda fanboy (even though I am), but because you did a very detailed, honest, heartfelt review of this car. Kudos to you, sir. I really appreciate your reviews.
Is no one going to say anything about the guy laying on the ground in the background blowing O’s at 15:12 😂 or the riceland bag that appears throughout the video
This is the only Civic Type-R review that I trust 100%. I still probably won't end up buying one as my tastes have changed and I'm now looking at AWD cars (and not necessarily full out performance AWD cars) but your channel is pretty much the only one that has tech talk, a look at the underbody, real driving impressions and 100% honest, no bullshit opinions.
One of the fairest reviews I've seen so far. You told what you didn't like, and still pointed out the positives about the car. It's not like you were a fanboy. More people should watch this video. Great review!
I'm waiting or delivery of my 2019 and I've been scouring for information to make absolutely sure this is the car for me. You have the most in depth reviews I've ever seen. Good work man.
Travis Callahan I’ve watched this review 3 times because I’m debating on getting one too. Savage does the best in depth car reviews I’ve seen so far on TH-cam. And the jokes😂😂👌🏾
You upload in 4K, COOL! I have only watched your videos on an Apple TV but now I will watch on my PC at times. Thank you for being you and trying to show us what's good and not good about the new Type-R. The owner looked really happy sitting there while you were driving His car hard. That's a person that really likes using their sports car like a sports car and they get my respect. (:
Good video. I avoided it like the plague because I'm not going to sit here and watch a TH-cam video that is over 30min long. Now that I seen it, 2 years later almost, I must say... you did a great job. To help answer your questions on the flaws... 1) The large wheels are what was required to make the numbers they made with the car at the nurburgring, therefore the car had to come with them. The science behind it, is that larger wheels with smaller sidewall tires, gives you more responsiveness and firmer handling on the turns and switchbacks. Too soft of sidewalls/rubber and the body will just want to rock and plow like a large boat would. They needed it to respond instantly, so that's what they used, so that's what we got. Go down to 18" or 17" wheels and you'll get a whole lot less loss of power that those large and heavy wheels were taking from the car. I would say 15hp easy, even if the wheels weigh the same but are smaller diameter. 2)The reason the car seems to be so strong for such weight and power, is because clearly it is underrated on hp. It puts down 290whp (rated 306hp), whereas the Civic Si puts down 180whp (rated 205hp). That would be a 5% loss in power going from the motor to the wheels, vs 12% loss. Typically, a FWD car will lose 12%. Doing the math backward on the Type-R, for 12% loss, it should be rated 330hp. 3) The gear grind feature/flaw, is Honda's answer to their dying dealerships not having enough service customers... Honda believes that if they throw in a faulty part to ruin the transmissions, the dealerships should have plenty of work. The real problem is that the dealerships want to provide the worst service of all the manufacturer dealer service depts, and expect the customers to come back. Ridiculous. What is that faulty part you ask? It's the clutch master cylinder causing the transmissions to fail, first with a grind, then permanent damage until your gears are ground to a pulp. So, what is the fix you ask? Go to the Honda Parts dept and ask for a 2001 Civic (7th gen) 4-door manual transmission clutch master cylinder and put it any Acura/Honda from 2002 forward. Yes, any Acura/Honda with a manual transmission for all those 17 years, be it a truck, an SUV, a minivan, a car, whatever. The most commonly complained about cars: RSX, Civic Si, and now Type-R, all the same fix for all those sporty/sport cars. 4)I will never buy one or any NEW Honda ever again, Honda dealerships are greedy, and Honda is not much different (see above), they don't care.
I feel like the people who are hating on this car having never driven a type r. People are so critical on its "ricer looks" and the fact that its only fwd. Type r's are amazingly well balanced, have great handling, and make good power for its purpose. Its not meant to have fast 0-60 times (theres more to sports car than that...), its meant to be carved around a canyon or track
The *only* reason I bought one and was willing to pay a little over sticker is that I owned a 2000 Integra Type R when I was younger. These dipshit complainers don't know what they're missing.
No, because Honda perfected the type r long ago with the dc2 and this is a slap in the face to that amazing car. I never knew I'd see a Honda prericed from the factory
There are no canyons or curvy tight back roads where I live, not everyone lives in California. 0 to 60 is what throws you back in your seat. Once you've driven tuned subarus and evos this feels gutless. I've tried a honda fit si in south Africa on tight fast roads and it was fun. You don't need a type r to have small car fun.
I’m a little late to the Honda type r party and also your channel but I gotta say you have the most detailed and pure videos I have ever seen from a TH-cam channel. You put a lot of merit and honesty in your videos and It is audible. Thank you for putting such great effort in these videos. You are awesome.
Probably in the age bracket you would expect, but his age doesn't discredit his opinion; there is no right or wrong opinion to have about this or any car. Looks are subjective, and even if this car isn't a lot of people's cup of tea there isn't anything wrong with liking the looks either. This car looks like exactly what it is, and is not pretending to be anything its not. Also if the aero is functional what's the problem; GT3 cars look like this, and the CTR was designed to perform best on tracks GT3 cars race, so of course its going to look like them. Yes it is FWD, and yes it has less power than those cars, but it would take a total meathead to think that good aero doesn't help regardless of the platform.
... i didn't reply to Steve's comment, because i didn't think there would be a positive reply to any answer i could give. the age bracket you'd expect is what age though? i'm 46. i'm not a fan of the looks of these newer generation Civics. i think the hatchback is better looking over, the sedan, and the coupe(which looks like it should be a hatchback). i think the wing on the Type R makes it stand out from all the other Civic hatchbacks that i've been seeing on the road. have yet to see a Type R on the road though.
@@xiaoxia5 where I live I've seen two other type R's and that's it. It's an extremely rare car on the road, the fastest front-wheel drive car in the world, and it will out handle almost anything.. no matter what the price.
I know 3 guys(1 doesn't have his yet) that bought this Type R and none of them paid under 40K. I did get a chance to drive it and I was amazed at the handling, especially the cornering. Ultimately, I only hate 2 things about this car, the spoiler in the back and dealers stealing and extra ten out of peoples pockets.
I only ever saw one white Civic Type R ever since they started selling them in Spring of 2017. The crazy look is an acquired taste, but the current gen Civic drives so well & full of technology I don't mind. (On a side note I DO live in Canada...and I saw that white Civic in Scarborough where I work...could it be this is the same car I saw?) Honestly given how good it drives, the only real reason the jokes & hate is really because it is a Civic with a big wing. We've all been there, making fun of ricers since the first days of Fast & Furious (the sack of rice says it all), but if you can look past that the Civic Type R is a genuine masterpiece & a definitely future classic.
Name me a current FWD sports car that drives as well as this. Answer is you can't. The Renault Megane RS 275 Cup came close, but the Type R handily beats it as the Nurburgring time shows. I think that qualifies it to be a masterpiece.
Trades46 So just because the civic has the record in one track, somewhere in europe, where any company can go with modified car and set whatever time they want, without anyone checking if their car is actually stock means it's a masterpiece to you? And no i can't name you another current fwd car that drives as well, because every other manufacter went AWD. But i can name you so many other older fwd cars that i think are better to drive than this civic (most of them would be older hondas). So in conclusion, my opinion is that faster doesn't mean better.
The key is "modern" (might want to practice reading). The Nurburgring time isn't the point; but the fact it can while remaining FWD (e.g. like all historic Civic Type R) and still punch AWD hot hatches in the face is of itself an engineering feat. Also while older Hondas could drive better, none of them ever had to deal with this much HP & TQ going to front wheels. So this is the most power-dense FWD & has handling to match. If you can't appreciate even that, you're just a hater.
Deejay Mercado yup.... I hated how these looked when they came out. After seeing a few in person though, I’m starting to think they’re actually pretty good looking. Kind of want one.
This is the first ctr review I watched, I knew it would be thorough, honest, informative and honest and it did not disappoint. Excellent as always. (aside from turbowski being absent)
It has been loooon long long time since I saw such a good car review, good structure, calmed and going deep into technical aspects of the car. Also loved the guide in the video description where you put the links to each minute on the video where the category is. I felt your pain when you grinded first gear, my FN2 even it had a fully build gearbox had grinds when I hit redline in 1st gear, sometimes even in 3rd gear. Grats on the review :)
Patiently waiting for you to get your hands on a 991.2 gt3 with a manual. You do a proper job evaluating these cars. You're not just on a track doing skids. Keep up the quality reviews man!
Surgically precise review,I appreciate the way in which you inform without condescending, like we are in on the secret , always informative and up front in your conclusions ,Thanks
As a huge Honda fan, I don't always agree with your assessment of the Type R, but I recognize my bias here. At the same time, I don't care about where we disagree because I so enjoy your thoroughness and the way you treat your viewers with respect by covering mechanical nuances and treating us like adults. This is the best thing since Wheeler Dealers went to crap. Thanks Savage, and keep up the good work!
Honestly, I'm really happy I picked up a '17 accord coupe v6 with the stick. It really is what Honda is all about; high revving n/a motor, great shifter, and whether you love it or hate it, FWD.
I am with you on that. The J35 is one of Honda's best motors, we told that to the Honda reps at the launch. But you know where that info was filed. (The v6 was only 10% of sales)
This is so thorough. I am very happy with the content. Thank you for making videos full of information rather than just gopro footage of ginning driver and acceleration sounds. This is why I subscribed.
Another masterful review, thank you. As a 63 year old man who went from a 67 Pontiac 283 to a 71 Charger Super Bee when I first started driving, I have to admit my tastes are somewhat eclectic. Heck, I own an 11 year old FJ Cruiser that I still love to drive every day. This must explain why I don't understand all the hate directed for this car. Name one super hatch (it's more than a hot hatch) designed for the younger generations, reasonably affordable that doesn't look like an economy car with makeup. I admire Honda's effort and hope they clear the transmission issues very quickly. After buying my initial production run FJ Cruiser I can say that I too had drivetrain problems from a design that was in production for years in the Tacoma and 4Runner. These problems can pop up from any manufacturer at any time in these days of global production of auto parts. A sign of the times we live in I guess. Love the Type R, congrats to Honda.
I winced when you crunched the gears. Mine does exactly that. Without the 1st to 2nd gear crunch issue (I have it, too, in my 2018 Type R)..this car would be the best car I've ever driven. The crunch does not get better with the miles,..nor can you learn to shift "better". Honda needs to fix this!
This car represents the same paradoxical situation the Integra Type R did nearly two decades ago. I can't say I love the styling, but after driving one the styling grew on me simply because of how much of a joy the car was to drive. I liked everything about the car except the fact that no dealer was willing to go below a $4,500 markup over MSRP. Styling is subjective where as performance and MSRP are objective. Honda designed a spectacularly performing car with a very reasonable MSRP and a fun factor high enough to bring non-Honda owners like myself into their brand. And yet, their limiting of production may prevent this car from ever being as good as it could be because the ridiculous dealer markup turns what should be a car of tremendous value into an economical shafting.
I've already commented on this, but I just picked up on the dude who bought it within seconds. I was the same. I saw it online and was in the showroom, not kidding, in 10 minutes. It's insanely good and I love how it looks. Ooo, subscribed. I've watched half a dozen of your videos and all have been great.
Waiting for my 2019 Type R to be delivered. Have been watching Type R videos to get my fix. Your video is one of the if not the best Type R video I have watched.
love these technical car reviews. awesome job. not everyone is car dumb, and it's nice to be treated like you already know something about cars. a lot of the other car review channels are just uninformative impressions by uneducated car enthusiasts. either that or they have that "after school special" feel to them where they explain things to you like your 7 years old. ...and don't get me started on those big budget shows with their scripted humor, melodramatic presentations, and regurgitated auto journalist's sentiments and platitudes.
+reactorfallout I really appreciate you saying that and it's really difficult to try to attract and keep people engaged that are not car people in some of these videos. But in reality I'd like to try to get people involved that wanna learn versus just the Casual users that just want to watch two minutes of garbage.
yeah, well, keep doing what you are doing. there are enough genuine enthusiasts out there to fill your Subs and get your views without resorting to less tasteful or more provacotive presentations. How one makes themselves visiable in this space is going to be challenging. I've been obsessively watching car videos on the internet for 15 years and I just discovered your videos 3 days ago. It's a fricken jungle in the TH-cam space... Logistically speaking, reviewing two cars at once is obviuosly much more work, but if you look at all of the most popular car videos, even going way back into Top Gear's catalog, it's the rivalries, shootouts, and side-by-side comparisons that dominate the view count. It's drama, and people love drama, especially car guys. Now, I have no clue if that is the direction you're interested in, I'm just spitballing. One thing I would say is maybe trim the videos up a little more. I would hate for you to cut short anything meaningful that you want to say about the cars, but if attention span is where I think it these days with the 18-49 demo, 30 minute videos might be too much, both for veiwers and yourself. I'm only saying this based on the average length of the largest, most respected car shows on you tube, which is right around the 22-23 minute mark. oh yeah, more drone work. overhead shots following cars through forests and backroads is, well for lack of a better word, majestic. anyways, thanks for the impressive videos, and I hope you figure out how to get all the monies! the hard work is acknowledged and appreciated.
Honda has actually already issued warnings to the dealerships marking the Type R up so much. I have seen one Type R that had a markup of $15k at a dealership in California. Honda actually said that either dealerships sell the car at MSRP with normal dealership markups ($1-2k), or they will not deliver any more Type R's to those dealerships. That being said, dealerships still make such a good profit even at MSRP, which is $33,900. So negotiating on this car would be wise. Getting a brand new Type R for $3-4k below MSRP is a hell of a good deal. Especially considering the pricing of the competition like the Focus RS and the WRX STi.
No more mark ups and dealerships can’t even get rid of them. 2 local owners are trying to sell theirs cause they feel like they got fucked. $50K for a Civic. You can buy a lightly used AMG or M series for the same price and look way better and go way faster.
the gearbox problem is easily addressed , remove the clutch delay valve and adjust the master rod under the pedal and change the gear oil to amsoil or redline , that did solve my problems with the gearbox . onece in a while i do the fuck up at changing without pressing clutch properly and it will still grind , but thats 1 in 500 changed where before it was 1 in 10 changes .
Hey Mike I am thinking about buying this car or a Hyundai I30N, can u please answer a few simple (and maybe irrelevant) questions about it? How is the audio system, does it have a nice tone, etc? How tall are you? I am 190 cm (hope u understand what I am saying lol) and have issues fitting in drivers seats.
I absolutely Love them and never thought I'd own one. I just bought a 2017 in Championship White with 2100 miles on it 2 days ago and it doesn't even feel real yet
I've got 274km/h in my Type R on the Autobahn which is 170mp/h. And I had a passenger. We weight 90 and 80 kg so 170kg added to the car and still got that speed. And it wasn't even the straightest patch of it.
Not really. The hood scoop is required to cool the engine and the rear spoiler is functional at 130 mph, creating 23 foot pounds of downforce. Cute little theory though. Honda doesn't need to pull anything. Subaru can't keep up with Honda sales. Not to mention, in the motor trend shootout, the type-r walked all over the STI.
I love the design of the car. Im not a car enthusiast, I spend my time in information security, but the style of this car is definitely a tech geek's wet dream.
Savagegeese-were you driving this Type R 2 weekends ago on some side roads right off of route 47 near Woodstock? I passed you guys twice in a grey 17' Miata RF and actually took delivery of my grey Type R this past Friday. I saw all the camera gear in the windshield when you passed me and thought it might have been you?
savagegeese sure do! I just did suspension, wheels/tires, exhaust, header, and tune on the RF and was testing it out ...its still pretty slow but handles way better than the sloppy 70's Cadillac factory suspension it came with and it's pretty fun. I will prob take the Type R out there one of these days but I am feeling a little sick to my stomach after watching your video.....I thought it was my imagination but I too have experienced a gear grind or two already in the Type R and wondered WTF was going on as I've never experienced that in any other car 😬🤦♂️
I saw it and immediately wanted one. I've said this before, but the looks make kids point as you go past. I parked next to an Aventador and it looked at home. Put a single seater next to them and you've got a kick ass track day. For a 35k (GBP) car it's insanely good on the road and track (if you track). I'm starting to sound like a Honda employee, I'm not, it's just an amazing bit of kit.
The type r is so in your face ricey that you can't help but like it! Seems like a good deal for the level of performance, but people paying 10-20k over msrp is crazy!
One of the local fuckboi dealers near where I live (David McDavid Honda) wanted $20k over ($55k out the door) and didn't even have an allocation on their books at the time -_-
kabob21 The stealerships are definitely taking advantage while they can. Even paying msrp for a new car is too much, just wait a while and get a much better deal.
esaino The only problem with that is the new sti doesn't come out until 2019 as a 2020 model. Currently the wrx is the better value over the sti, it's a better daily and with a few mods it's a very good car.
My 2015 Honda Civic Si had the transmission replaced under warranty as I lost third gear and was grinding into second. The car only had 43,000km on it. It seems to be a common problem with most of hondas kseries engines.
I love the loud styling of the Type R. If you dont like it, stop complaining and go back and drive a Lincoln. Some people care too much about what other people think. People are either stupid or jealous of you.....live life and enjoy!
First of all, this guy gives superb concise reviews, and brings up things that most car reviewers don't think to talk about. That said, the type R is no question a real deal sports car engineered from Honda ( how bad could it be?), The car coming at you looks menacing, driving away, it looks comical, get rid of the boy racer crap ! come on Honda, Grownups want to buy this car.
I love this car ..But I have decided not to go ahead and buy The New type r ...because of the Gearbox Problems as there are so many out there with this problem ..
What car/s are you looking at? I own a lower 1.5T Civic hatch and I had gears grind about a handful of times but that was all when it was new and it hasn't happened again. I think it could have to do with revving to the absolute limit and then not waiting for the revs to match in some way. Now, I rev to 6k and this is plenty high for me no matter. I wonder if the Honda gear oil is the best but that's still what is in there now. I think people may tend to over-test their vehicles when they are newer, because you want to get your money's worth and to explore the limits of your vehicle.
"At the end of the day. It's still FWD." It's Faster than an STI, RS, GOLF R, Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI, Porsche 911 GT2, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640 E-gear, Porsche 911 GT3 RS around the ring. people worry so much about Drivetrains.
+John Nguyen it may be faster in some conditions but it's certainly not as rewarding to drive as many rear wheel drive sports cars. It doesn't have the intuitive nature or the rotation that's what numbers don't tell you.
Except it's not, because as has been the case with every Type-R setting records on NR, the time that has been performed will not be repeated with a retail car by any magazine or person, because the record lap wasn't done on stock tires and geometry (and of course Honda isn't the only brand guilty of this). I can tell you in the real world this FWD trash will hardly go under 8 minutes for a full lap (so about 15 seconds slower), as was proven by Sport Auto magazine and countless BTG laps that couldn't even break 8 minutes with the previous model lol. It's a great and fast car, no mistake, but it just isn't proportionally that much faster than anything else as marketing-induced falsified 'record' laps let you believe.
I honestly mean this, and wish you no ill will or insult - if a timed lap set by a professional driver on a track half a world away is all that matters to you then by all means enjoy your 35-40k ff civic.
it would be a fun daily driver if u could only have a one car to do it all type of thing. and u have a family. i daily my s2000 but it is very impractical in some situations but once u hit a backroad or a track its all worth the sacrifices.
FK8 owner here. For all those big and tall shoppers out there, but mostly big….I am 250lbs of man muscle and 5’10”. These seats are at their absolute limits with me. I have to empty out my kaki cargo pockets everyday, and do a little shimmy. Something in the seat back pops when I use it as leverage device against my Tommy Boy frame, so I had to learn to use the center arm rest to my advantage for emotional support. Kudos to Honda for continuing their support in center armrest manufacturing.
As a Type R owner, I've owned an M3 and an S5 and I get more compliments for my R than both of the other cars combined from every age demographic.
Integra?
But did you like it more than the M3 and the s5?
If someone has a problem sitting in those seats, they can always choose not to be fat anymore
@deadend Fat Ass
I like been fat..😀
@@Shane-zx4ps apparently, you like being fat so much, you even eat the letters off of words.
Captain BaseBallBat-Boy ah that’s very hurtful,
Japanese culture is well known for fat shaming people.

Wow. That's not encouraging
Crashed it 100 feet into the woods.
Sorry to hear that mate

The content is great really and his way with words is good as well, but I don't like the way he presents it to you, his general robot-like facial and verbal expression throughout almost all his videos is slightly off-putting, I would still put Henry Catchpole as the best reviewer.

I absolutely LOVE this car and appreciate Honda for finally sending it over here. The performance and driving experience you get for your money is outstanding. The car is also beautiful to look at wing and all. Why buy a "hot" hatch if you want it to look like a cold or lukewarm hatch?
Hell yea that's the right mindset

That rear wing is a deal-breaker. I don’t care how nice it drives if I look like a clown getting out of a bad joke of a car. Women are not going to have sex with me if I show up in a clown-mobile (translate this into Japanese, please).

The S2000 in the end is such a contrast to CTR. S2k is such a classic beauty.
TingTingMelody not to mention a more engaging and raw experience.
You have to remember the CTR's styling fits in the context of the earlier 2010 Mugen CivIc Type R and the 2015 Civic Type R. The S2000 is certainly a more clean and minimalist design.
You just have to take off the condom to get the raw experience.
Matthew Heagerty I thought that's the sailor's experience 😅
TingTingMelody AND YOU ARE A BULLSHIT!
I got one in June 21. I love it. It’s by far the first car I have that I smile each time I goto drive it. Good review.
Project cars - Balkans well said.. I'd still prefer a cleaner look, however. To each...
Project cars - Balkans well said!!!👌
There's a possibility I'll drive mine dressed up, perchance

As a 10-gen civic SI owner, I am really glad to see what Honda has achieved! Love it!
I wish that the si comes in a hatchback, I would totally buy it!!
Maybe if you're under 25, otherwise it's an embarrassment when you pull into the office.
@@taylorc2542 that's only if you care what some boring old office dwellers think of you
Ford focus RS owner confession: i really like this car. Over 60mph, this car kills my car. Couldn’t buy this car because the dealers wanted $7k plus premium over msrp. I am very impressed with what they did with a basic grocery getter.
Also, what a great video! Keep them coming.
I’d much rather have the rs.
Alex M you need to read up more on over 60mph the rs kills it
I enjoy letting people with nice cars drive my Type R.
What about a bmw m2 competition
@@didafm That car is what? 40,000 dollars more than the Type R? Dont really think its a valid comparison.
@@didafm IIRC Throttle House actually did a track comparison on that, even if the price tag is basically double that of the Type R
I can say the same for the Focus RS... I've let a few friends drive it that own Porsches and they are always surprised.

When ppl complain about the rear wing yet subaru and many others basically have the same style
If Subaru has it on one of their cars that’s almost certainly a bad thing. Maybe look to design features on Alfas or Porsches.
For me, the wing is the 🍒 on top of a visually loud style. I'd prefer fewer fake vents and more cohesive lines.

No one is arguing its ability to be a canyon carver. It just looks too over the top. I’d rather import a DC5, or buy an s2k.
Cobalt SS, Focus ST, GTI, oh im sure there is many more
There are no canyons or curvy tight back roads where I live, not everyone lives in California.
You are awesome.
if the Type R didn't have the ridiculous looking rear wing... i wouldn't like it as much!
xiaoxia5 and just out of curiosity, how old are you?
Don't hate.
Ultimately, I only hate 2 things about this car, the spoiler in the back and dealers stealing and extra ten out of peoples pockets.
the spoiler is highly functional though. it may be obnoxiously huge, but Japanese cars are known for large spoilers
I agree
If you paid over sticker, your a sucker. There are several in Houston that are selling at sticker price.
Agreed. At 40K you’re stepping into golf R territory. When dealers mark it up that bad it makes the Hyundai Veloster N look like such a better deal.
Spoiler is good to 367 mph.
I only ever saw one white Civic Type R ever since they started selling them in Spring of 2017. The crazy look is an acquired taste, but the current gen Civic drives so well & full of technology I don't mind. (On a side note I DO live in Canada...and I saw that white Civic in Scarborough where I work...could it be this is the same car I saw?)
Honestly given how good it drives, the only real reason the jokes & hate is really because it is a Civic with a big wing. We've all been there, making fun of ricers since the first days of Fast & Furious (the sack of rice says it all), but if you can look past that the Civic Type R is a genuine masterpiece & a definitely future classic.
You may well have seen it in Scarborough. Watch for the old six digit plate. Not many of those around.
Trades46 A masterpiece? Seriously?
My new favorite channel. Thanks for your fair and balanced professional reviews, pure class.
The type r is an acquired taste in terms of styling. The longer it's out, the better it looks.
Deejay Mercado yup.... I hated how these looked when they came out. After seeing a few in person though, I’m starting to think they’re actually pretty good looking. Kind of want one.

Honestly, I'm really happy I picked up a '17 accord coupe v6 with the stick. It really is what Honda is all about; high revving n/a motor, great shifter, and whether you love it or hate it, FWD.
Samie What do you think about them going to a 2.0 turbo and no more 6 cylinders?
I'd take the "feel" and noise of the J35 V6 over the better MPG and slightly more power in the 2.0T, thats why i did.
I am with you on that. The J35 is one of Honda's best motors, we told that to the Honda reps at the launch. But you know where that info was filed. (The v6 was only 10% of sales)
That V6 was a great engine

N C Is that still true?
I've seen over two handfuls of the new Civic Type-R reviews. This is certainly the best. Well done man. + Sub
Never pay mark up, that's for fools. Always leave a dealership if they dont budge on that
I've already commented on this, but I just picked up on the dude who bought it within seconds. I was the same. I saw it online and was in the showroom, not kidding, in 10 minutes. not everyone is car dumb, and it's nice to be treated like you already know something about cars. a lot of the other car review channels are just uninformative impressions by uneducated car enthusiasts. either that or they have that "after school special" feel to them where they explain things to you like your 7 years old. ...and don't get me started on those big budget shows with their scripted humor, melodramatic presentations, and regurgitated auto journalist's sentiments and platitudes.

Love your commentary and technical analysis. So competent.
Jordan Flores no they haven’t
No more mark ups and dealerships can’t even get rid of them. 2 local owners are trying to sell theirs cause they feel like they got fucked. $50K for a Civic. You can buy a lightly used AMG or M series for the same price and look way better and go way faster.
One of the best reviews out there....by far 🍻 cheers bro from a proud CTR owner at over 8k miles 💪 love it 🚘 !!!

the gearbox problem is easily addressed , remove the clutch delay valve and adjust the master rod under the pedal and change the gear oil to amsoil or redline , that did solve my problems with the gearbox . onece in a while i do the fuck up at changing without pressing clutch properly and it will still grind , but thats 1 in 500 changed where before it was 1 in 10 changes .

I absolutely Love them and never thought I'd own one. I just bought a 2017 in Championship White with 2100 miles on it 2 days ago and it doesn't even feel real yet
Been waiting on this one.... Can't wait for turbowski to put his vape pen down and give his opinion
Your reviews are the best in the industry!
Wow sodium filled valves ... The R32 GT-R you reviewed recently has the same thing .
I've got 274km/h in my Type R on the Autobahn which is 170mp/h.
And I had a passenger. We weight 90 and 80 kg so 170kg added to the car and still got that speed. And it wasn't even the straightest patch of it.
AT LAST! A TRUE CAR REVIEW! GREAT JOB! THANKS!
Always enjoy your pure honesty-“it’s stupid” when describing about the touch screen hvac controls hahaha
Hood scoop and wing is just to get Subaru fans over to Honda
A jacko it worked
It’s working!
I agree 100%
It is better looking.
Hey Mark, great work as usually. I really appreciate the review portion of the undercarriage.
+Anthony Mizono Thanks man
I love the design of the car. Im not a car enthusiast, I spend my time in information security, but the style of this car is definitely a tech geek's wet dream.
After watching several Type R reviews, I am more in love with the idea of owning a Type R than actually owning one in the flesh ;)
Savagegeese-were you driving this Type R 2 weekends ago on some side roads right off of route 47 near Woodstock? I passed you guys twice in a grey 17' Miata RF and actually took delivery of my grey Type R this past Friday. I saw all the camera gear in the windshield when you passed me and thought it might have been you?
jameswillard1 I think that's where Scott's shop is. Would be cool to see him out working.
Hutzman76 yeah, I actually commented before I watched the video but it was definitely him because I recognize all the roads he was on
+jameswillard1 Yes I saw you! Pass by, you use the same roads?
savagegeese sure do!
I have been asking for this review for quite some time. You may not remember but I was waiting on this! Thank you sir. Good review
People complained that it is not AWD, me too at first, but being FWD makes it able to pull more than the others
I love the consistent use of language (...bit of kit) by Brits and of course, when you guys say, "...getting things sorted."
Your reviews are the best
Need a video on the baffled head which reduces oil blowby dramatically - ingenious system
I would wait for new gen sti and check out refreshed type r few year later.... no one would buy this type r at stupid high price.
esaino The only problem with that is the new sti doesn't come out until 2019 as a 2020 model. Currently the wrx is the better value over the sti, it's a better daily and with a few mods it's a very good car.
What's riced about it?
My 2015 Honda Civic Si had the transmission replaced under warranty as I lost third gear and was grinding into second. The car only had 43,000km on it. It seems to be a common problem with most of hondas kseries engines.
oh wow, you got that second gear crunch!! We need to get this fixed!
FlyinGato I knew I'd find you here..."#gatosquad#
haha, yea Apollo! Savagegeese is a great guy, and his Type R review is as good as always!
FlyinGato Agree! He does quality work!
#gatosquad
#gatosquad AND YOU ARE A BULLSHIT!
I love the loud styling of the Type R. If you dont like it, stop complaining and go back and drive a Lincoln. Some people care too much about what other people think. People are either stupid or jealous of you.....live life and enjoy!
Too bad I was looking forward to seeing Scott being disapproving of this car
Honda MTF gearbox oil is the only oil to use for the Type R
I watch a lot of TypeR review, you guys by far the best ive seen, good job! The mechanical part was very good,
"At the end of the day. It's still FWD."
It's Faster than an STI, RS, GOLF R, Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI, Porsche 911 GT2, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640 E-gear, Porsche 911 GT3 RS around the ring.
people worry so much about Drivetrains.
+John Nguyen it may be faster in some conditions but it's certainly not as rewarding to drive as many rear wheel drive sports cars. It doesn't have the intuitive nature or the rotation that's what numbers don't tell you.
I take it you don't actually drive performance cars.
