I get you girl. I’m from the Dominican Republic and we live on beans and rice. It’s just so delicious. I’m also doing the Starch solution and have gone from 209 lbs to 179 lbs in 4 months and my back pain disappeared and plantar fasciitis disappeared. I also eat mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes until I can’t eat anymore. Dr. McDougall even talks about the Aztecs, the people of the corn. The Middle East is the the bead basket of the world. In Africa they eat tons of root vegetables. South America and Caribbean lots of Rice and beans and potatoes and we’ve lived for years on plants and starches. That’s the real human diet. When we go back to our roots, we get healthy.
I’m just past 4 months and I’m down 37 pounds! It’s been life-changing already and I never would have guessed it could be this easy to eat this clean. I don’t plan on ever stopping!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I remember people did not believe me when I'd share how fast the weight just came off.. you are another prime example of how healthy eating impacts your health and as a result weight loss follows!
I just found your channel and I ❤️ it. I too am Mexican and it’s nice to see a fellow Latina make healthier versions of some cultural foods. Would love to see more recipes that are WFPB but Mexican ☺️
Oh my gosh yes! Beans and rice is life! My mom used to serve us beans and rice for lunch when we were kids. When I have it now it takes me back to my childhood. It's great to see a latina eating WFPB no oil♥️. I too struggle with 🥑. I want to eat the whole thing😂. please keep doing your videos and share your mom's veganized dishes with us.
Beans & rice are the absolute best. 😍😂 I ain’t ashamed to have a bowl of beans topped with onion and cilantro! That thing is deliciousness in a bowl! It was a struggle at first giving the oil up but once I learned the harmful effects I was like nope 🙅🏽♀️ & I have a goal of convincing my momma to do a video with me in Spanish of one of her recipes lol let’s see what’s coming!
Super congratulations. To be as young as you are, and to have it figured out, is going to such a blessing throughout your life. So easy to dismiss Dr McDougall's message in today's culture which promotes unhealthy foods. You rock.
❤love your history. I feel that My knees don't hurt like usually, I am able to bend without all the cracking sound, more energy, wake up without brain frog, and i SEE diferences on the mirror but i don't weigth myself cause is a huge trigger for me.
Yyeess -- Nice Cream!!!! I never would have guessed that some frozen bananas blended together with a splash of plant milk would taste so much like ice cream! Sssooooo good!!!
Congrats and thank you for sharing! I totally agree with everything you said! I started wfpbno about 5 weeks ago and I’m amazed at how good I feel. I just want to tell everyone! 😆
I am starting starch solution tomorrow. I follow a lot Facebook groups and see people success with getting their health back. I struggle with high blood pressure and anxiety so I hope I can get better eating this way. Thank you for the video 💖
Good for you Andrea! I’m sure you will love this way of eating, you will get to eat an abundance of delicious healthy foods and regain your health in the process 🙌🏼👏🏽
I am so happy to have just stumbled across your channel! I am a fellow petite mexican and was brought up eating the traditional cuisine along with good old American fast food... there were 6 of us kids and we know how much cheaper drive thru where in the 80's and 90's. I am 5'1 and find it super hard to relate to eating and workouts that taller people post because it doesn't make it more difficult to loose weight when your a small person. I have also lost about 35-40 pounds it fluctuates within that range... you know how it goes. Thank you for your content and I am happy to be your newest subscriber!😇🙏
Hi Angie, welcome here!! 💜I love hearing from other fellow Mexicanas making a change for their health 💕 Something to be so proud of because it is HARD when one is used to all the fast food and fried Mexican dishes.
It was encouraging for me to hear you talk about the little treats that made this diet sustainable. It’s the coffee, creamer and occasional latte for me too! Thank you for sharing:)
Being 2 years in I definitely feel that was the key to being able to stick with this way of eating. It doesn’t make it restrictive and helps me enjoy it and gives me freedom to enjoy the new treats available on a vegan diet!
You look amazing! Thank you for sharing your journey. I’ve been WFPB for almost 3 months and have been following the starch solution for about 2. I have lost all of my baby weight and then some. My baby boy just turned 3 months and I feel healthier than ever. Keep making these videos!
Thank you so much! That is amazing, keep it up girl! This is such a joy filled way to live. As my husband and I start thinking about having kids of our own we see more and more how diet is so important as we being to think of the example we want to set for them. Congrats on the new baby! ❤️
I eat nice cream pretty much daily. I don't bother with smoothies much, but nice cream is how I get my fruit in. I feel like I get to enjoy a nice little dessert every day!
I am so happy to see this video as I doing plantbased but still tweaking my diet. Thank you for sharing your journey. I will most likely have to take out oil again as I see it holding me back.
Try the starch solution. Is a really good simple way of eating. Dr. John McDougall wrote the book. I started it in October of 2022 and 4 months later I have lost 30 lbs and my back pain and my plantar fasciitis and my blood pressure had dropped from 155/80 to 105/70 range. I’m from the Domincan Republic and we live on rice and beans, so that wasn’t hard to eat. I also eat mashed potatoes (made with plant milk and a little salt); veggies sauté in water and with a little adobo, I eat oatmeal, sweet potatoes and green salad, twice a day, and it’s been so easy. I eat until I’m full and I keep losing weight and lots of energy and just feel amazing. I am back in the gym now. I’m there at 4 am, like I used to be in my younger days (I’m 44 hrs old). Also people are telling me I look 28 or 29, which is crazy. I’m 5’8” and I went from 209 lbs to 179 lbs and I’m still losing. I lift heavy, but I recover so fast that I feel like I didn’t lift heave enough.
Yes my Girl if people still didn't get the message from plantbased eating what the BENIFITS are, they miss out alot. Glad you enjoyed plantbased. 🥝🥦🥔🥑🍅🥕🍎👍
Hi!🌷 I am so happy to hear your back is doing much better and that you lost weight in the process!!🤗👍🌷🙏 Something similar happened to me. I started because of pain on both of my knees, but I've also managed to lose almost 20 lbs, lost inches around my midsection, but most importantly my knee pain has gone away.🙏 So excited to come across your channel!🌷🙏🤗 definitely subscribing!
Perfect timing for this video! This morning i was thinking how much i miss regular pasta and peanut butter! You are so right about making this sustainable and something i can do forever! Thanks for the video😊
That’s what this whole lifestyle is all about. It’s not meant to be overly restrictive, it’s about fueling your body with good healthy things & including some pasta and eating some peanut butter isn’t going to be the end of the world. ☺️ these things are so much better than the stuff in the standard American Diet! So enjoy that pasta and load it with veggie goodness! 👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks so much for sharing! Very inspiring! I have been eating by the starch solution for 5 months but way too many compromises so my weight loss has been slow. I needed to refocus, thank you! Love being vegan and whole food based! ❤️
Wow Milly your super strong 💪🏽I've tried to go vegetarian in the past but it's a lot of preparation. But this gives me hope. Thank you for sharing beautiful 😘
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be “vegan”. I used to be the person who loved my junk food and all the deep fried foods but it happened and trust me it can change your life. It really is all about preparation and having things ready because if your hungry you can just pop it in the microwave and eat and move on with your day. Not to say of course that this food isn’t delicious! Trust me it is, you’ll begin to enjoy the food so much better after a few weeks ☺️ you got this!
I’ve started this a few weeks ago. Vegetarian all my life but tried all kinds of other “diets” before this. Been a bit more strict for the last week or so on starch solution WFPB Breakfast: oats+blueberries+banana+maple syrup, coffee +low-fat oat milk+sugar Lunch: spiced veggie soup with baked potatoes. No oils or broth Snacks: rice cakes, cornflakes with plant milk Dinner: salad with potatoes, djon mustard+maple syrup dressing by plantiful Kiki Not sure what else can I do but my weight hasn’t changed. Idk if it’s cuz I’m on birth control pills but I am stuck at the plateau of 168lbs. Goal is to lose 35lbs but did not lose a single pound yet. Initially I did eat out and tried to stick to salads but I know restaurants add oils on everything including salad dressing. Had a few mochas, boba tea with plant milk but I’m trying to avoid those as well. Breaks my heart to see the scale not move !
I would say to focus on cutting back on the more processed foods like rice cakes & cornflakes and opting for more fruits as a substitute. Everybody’s body is different as I was able to include a coffee latte once a month and still lose weight. My husband and I were on a really tight budget at the time so I couldn’t go out to eat so whole plant foods were the best option & made it easier. I would ask myself how often are those more calorie dense/ processed foods sneaking into your day to day. Since weightloss seems to be a goal I would recommend a podcast by Healthy Emmie or Lean with Plants. They really focus on weightloss and habits.
Reacently I gave up meat and chicken I still eat fish I lost 8 pounds 2weeks ago so I just started 2 weeks ago too I feel better I feel healthier thank you for your tips 👍👍👍👍💕💕💕
Sorry had to divide my comment. I too am from Mexico and I completely get it, it's definitely hard to get used to eating without all those deep fried foods. (Especially telling grandma no)😂 but thanks be to God and to TH-camrs like Plantiful Kiki, I've learned how to make healthy tamales, masa gorditas and even chile rellenos!😍
Hi Mirna! Oh my goodness somebody that gets it! Haha the hardest part was for sure saying no to my mommas cooking. Thankfully my momma has worked with me and she has begun to “veganize” some of her recipes so that I can eat too ❤️ and I’m right with you on that, once you learn how to make the delicious comfort foods you’re used to this lifestyle begins to stick 😄
@@JoywithPlants So true!! Today is the first day my husband and one of my daughters ate no oil nachos with me. It almost brought tears to my eyes, it feels so good to eat the same food together💕 So happy your mommy is working with you💕💕🤗🌷🙏
That’s amazing! Be encouraged, as you eat the people in your home will begin to see how delicious this food can be & they will try it too! My husband was not fully on board in the beginning & now he loves it! 🙌🏼 and he made the decision on his own 👍🏽
just found your channel, you are so cute, glad you found the way to good health is through a WFPB diet, I have been following Dr. McDougall for awhile. My favorite meal, black beans and rice with pineapple salsa, so yummy. I never gave up my coffee either, my favorite creamer..Silk almond milk creamer caramel flavor..so good
Hi, I love how honest you are! I am trying to eat healthier and I love sweets like ice cream or chocolate. How often did you allow yourself to indulge in something sweet in your journey? Also, it's awesome how you see it as a lifestyle 100%!
I found that finding swaps for the things that you like really is helpful. I used to be able to eat a pint of vegan ice cream by myself but have replaced that with some nice cream (blended bananas and fruit) and it’s now totally what I prefer. What I do make exceptions for or “indulge” in would be a flavored latte or a vegan pastry at coffee shops but that’s maybe once a month. Hope that helps 😊
Congratulations on such a great accomplishment! 👏👏 I was vegan from 2016-2019. I lost weight at first but then became a junk food, processed food vegan 😔 I gained weight & it discouraged me and I fell off the wagon. Now, I am struggling with weight gain and high blood pressure, ugh! So, I am recommitting and this time doing oil free WFPB. Thanks for sharing your experience! . One suggestion…you may want to write a script beforehand for a smoother presentation…a viewer can see you thinking thru what you want to say. It would be crisper if you have a script to keep the chat focused & avoid repetition. :-)
You go girl! Yes, good luck 🙌🏼🙌🏼 And LOL I totally agree. It was my second video in front of a camera and I was sooooo nervous and felt so awkward! 😂😂 have thought of bringing it down but leaving it up tho in hopes that it can help encourage somebody 😊
@@JoywithPlants I think you should totally leave it up! Great video, especially for one of your firsts! It's how I found you 😅. Never forget the days of humble beginnings, right?! 😉 Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
Funny that you say spinach is bitter. I find spinach to be a very mild green vegetable (and I’m someone that absolutely cannot drink coffee because it’s too bitter no matter what I add to it). Its amazing how much taste buds can vary person to person, and even with the same person over time. Also, if you’re someone that doesn’t like arugula, this is a veggie that is amazing in soups. You don’t get any of that spicy strong flavor you get with raw arugula.
It’s so funny! Cause a few months later I’m loving the spinach and kale and a whole bunch of other stuff I didn’t like before lol my tastebuds have definitely changed! 😆
This way of eating definitely works. A few tips I would add is to eat veggies & include them in just about every meal. Make sure that you are limiting the oil intake, preferably none but if starting out a tiny bit to get you adjusted should be fine. Enjoy the food is the last tip. This way of eating is super satisfying and simple, simplify your meals and it makes it much easier and sustainable 😊
I either pick something that’s vegan depending on the place I go and if they don’t have something on their menu I can always mix and match some sides. I don’t go out often, maybe once or twice a month so I don’t mind having a vegan dish that’s not necessarily WFPB oil free. I found that giving myself this freedom allows me to see this way of living/eating actually sustainable.
I personally would say choose your battles LOL if it helps you I stay the course why not? As long as it isn’t excessive. Later on in your journey if you’d like to see quicker weightloss or get out of a weightloss plateau then cutting it out in the meantime would be helpful. A good idea though would be seeing if instead of dark chocolate you included cocoa powder in a smoothie and get the flavor but with added nutrients from fruit and greens. Again I personally left things in my diet because it made this lifestyle enjoyable. For me it’s an occasional latte and for you it’s chocolate. ☺️
Good for you, this way of eating is amazing & weight loss will be a great side effect of fueling your body with wonderful and delicious real plant foods! 🥔🥦🥬🥕 I personally did not experience hair loss so can’t say 🤷🏽♀️
@@JoywithPlants veganism isn’t anything new for me. Have eaten this way for ten years, but have never experienced hair loss in this way. Might’ve been the addition of lockdown that perpetuated it.
would b much better if you put in bowls/on plates etc with the foods you ate on a counter with camera focused on each one, listing the ingredients and how to make, for breakfast/lunch/dinner and what snacks/amts you consumed, and a scale showing weekly weight loss with head to toe pic weekly pics in spandex to visualize the shape change. instead of just a head talking, although you are pleasant looking enough and talk fine...for next time...
Hello! Thanks for watching 😊 im pretty short, 4 11 and for my height that actually is a bit of weight even in the bmi calculator it would place me in the over weight calculator. More than that though, I didn’t feel good physically being that weight 🫤

One suggestion…you may want to write a script beforehand for a smoother presentation…a viewer can see you thinking thru what you want to say. It would be crisper if you have a script to keep the chat focused & avoid repetition. :-)
You go girl! Yes, good luck 🙌🏼🙌🏼
And LOL I totally agree.
Thank YOU!!!!!!
I can never get my beans right can you show us how you would prepare your rice and bean meal ?
Will be posting that in a week or so! 😋
Great video. Do u have recipes we can try?
🙏🏾 Thank you very helpful
Hi there,
Wow your video is so helpful and your progress is amazing.
How tall are you if u don’t mind sharing?
I am 4 feet 11 inches 😄
Oils are necessary for brain eye function and for joints.
What brand of creamer do you use?
I have quite a bit of back pain too. To clarify, within the first month your back was feeling better?
Yup! Actually within the first few weeks I saw a huge improvement 👍🏽
I hope this works for me 🤕. I'm on week two and haven't lost a single pound. I will give it a month and if it doesn't work I don't know what I'll do
This way of eating definitely works.
What u order when u go to eat out?
I either pick something that’s vegan depending on the place I go and if they don’t have something on their menu I can always mix and match some sides. I don’t go out often, maybe once or twice a month so I don’t mind having a vegan dish that’s not necessarily WFPB oil free. I found that giving myself this freedom allows me to see this way of living/eating actually sustainable.
I Love dark chocolate and it keeps me from binging… is it ok?
I personally would say choose your battles LOL if it helps you I stay the course why not? As long as it isn’t excessive. Later on in your journey if you’d like to see quicker weightloss or get out of a weightloss plateau then cutting it out in the meantime would be helpful. A good idea though would be seeing if instead of dark chocolate you included cocoa powder in a smoothie and get the flavor but with added nutrients from fruit and greens. Again I personally left things in my diet because it made this lifestyle enjoyable. For me it’s an occasional latte and for you it’s chocolate. ☺️
I’m watching!!
How long you been on You-Tube?
Been on TH-cam for about 2 months ☺️
@@JoywithPlants wonderful! I like your videos so far
Hello! Started the Starch Solution too, and weight loss is slow (I’m 58). One question: did you experience hair loss?
Good for you, this way of eating is amazing & weight loss will be a great side effect of fueling your body with wonderful and delicious real plant foods! 🥔🥦🥬🥕 I personally did not experience hair loss so can’t say 🤷🏽♀️
@@JoywithPlants veganism isn’t anything new for me. Have eaten this way for ten years, but have never experienced hair loss in this way. Might’ve been the addition of lockdown that perpetuated it.
Are you on Instagram? Would love to follow your journey. I need all the encouragement I can get.
Yes, it is @millyygonzalez 👍🏽😊
What is your exercise program in addition to your wfpb diet?
Just walking regularly and occasional runs, but nothing too crazy. During these 4 months i didn’t do either.
would b much better if you put in bowls/on plates etc with the foods you ate on a counter with camera focused on each one, listing the ingredients and how to make, for breakfast/lunch/dinner and what snacks/amts you consumed, and a scale showing weekly weight loss with head to toe pic weekly pics in spandex to visualize the shape change. instead of just a head talking, although you are pleasant looking enough and talk fine...for next time...
👏🏽
Que pena que no tengas vídeos en español! 😔
No es la única persona que está interesada en un video en español. Quizás en el futuro 🤗
How tall are you?
4 feet 11 inches 😊
@@JoywithPlants thanks for the reply! I am 5.2 (158cm) so I was wondering. Btw you did such a great job!! I’m gonna switch to Wfbp!!
@@Risa-s7p thank you! It’s an incredible lifestyle & you will not regret it! Changed our lives 👏🏽
Chunky at 130lb???
It was between 135-140 pounds and I am 4ft 11inches so it didn’t look so good on my stature or body frame.
I appreciate your story, but like you literally said 130ish pounds is chunky. Really? I do not understand that way of thinking.
Hello! Thanks for watching 😊 im pretty short, 4 11 and for my height that actually is a bit of weight even in the bmi calculator it would place me in the over weight calculator. More than that though, I didn’t feel good physically being that weight 🫤
@@JoywithPlants Thanks for clarification. I am 5’4” and when I was 135 I was stunning and would do anything to be there again lol
