I think this card is gonna be good in exactly one deck. That deck being Eldrazi Tron/stompy. Running Ugin's Labyrinth and Eldrazi Temple together is gonna be disgusting. However the line of turn two KTGC and TOR is starting to get into magical Christmas land for me. The only reason I am downplaying this card in mono red prison strategies and goblins is where are you fitting in the cards to exile for this land. This card is gonna be strong but its gonna be strong in a very specific deck. I do agree turn one Chalice of the Void on one is disgusting and if its consistent enough could be considered for banning. I do also want to mention this card fights with the Tron strategy. It takes away a land drop causing you to hit the 7 mana mark later causing you to lose mana in the long run.
I think most people immediately thought "OMG Karn on turn two!" and with good reason. It is nice that if you imprint a 7 mana artifact, Karn can also fetch it back, just in case. P.S. - I actually think Chalice would get banned before Ugin's Labyrinth. Mainly because banning this new land would cheapen there own set. And unless I am missing something, Ugin's Lab is more restricted and less powerful overall.
Well the reason I downplay this is because we dont work with magic christmas land hands, saying u having 2 useless 7 drops 2 Labyrinth and a karn or ring is the epitemy of magic christmas land, im not saying its not going to be good! Of course it is, but I think you are panicking a wee bit too much on this one. It will have real deck restrictions, it will be really good in the decks where those restrictions are met, but they are not many + there are tons of land answers in Modern
Yeah calling this “unrestricted” is wild to me, it’s heavily restricted and the idea that you have this land + 7 drop + perfect 2 drop sideboard answer card is not going to happen that often
This card embodies what they're trying to go for in modern horizons 3, that being "powerful, but narrow". This card is incredible in the decks that can run it, but i don't think it's gonna be the next modern staple. Not like it wins the game by itself, unlike a certain saga land. Honestly, there's an argument that this might not go in affinity, cause the artifact lands often function as sol lands (giving mana and reducing cost) with no imprint restriction.
Labyrinth is going in tron, affinity, and probably some version of Eldrazi. It’s not just pitching a card to get the soul land. It has to be 7 cmc. Not a lot of deck can afford to even run enough 7+ drops to have density that lets exile consistently. You are going a little off the deep end with this. Chalice on 1 is the most likely thing that’ll happen, if that.
I did notice this while you were describing what the card does, but nothing in the game actually generates generic mana anymore, even if the card's text says to generate generic mana, it's been Oracle Texted to say the equivalent amount of colorless mana, you can check literally anything and this is the case!
As someone who's played a lot of Sol lands in legacy if it enters untapped it's amazing. Doesn't sac like City of Traitors, hurt like Ancient Tomb, or limited to Eldrazi.
At the end of the day, it’s still a two card combo that you need to run a critical mass of high CMC colorless spells which are early game bricks usually.
With the recent spoilers for tron, it might be, but only because you can run a pure Urzatron manabase now. That said, this land is cracked clean in half.
@@daltonbrasier5491 correction... Urza's Workshop is only legal in EDH and Vintage... Oops... Thought that had a printing outside of commander product.
I think another thing to think about doing with it is activating urza's saga on t2. In legacy t1 urza's saga t2 sol land is an extremely powerful way to churn out constructs and I think that that type of thing is one of the major things this card will be facilitating. That being said I'm not panicked yet. I think a cmc>=7 colorless spell is more of a cost than it seems (definitely the dream hands can work and I even think we'll see those, I think it's largely a deckbuilding cost. If you aren't playing simulacrum synthesizer, myr enforcer is pretty bad). And also the main decks that will be playing this will be artifact decks and they have to worry about meltdown now which is incredible against all their 0's and 1's
The card will see play because of the softened "miss" and not really because of the highs it can hit. The fact it can also just default as a one mana land is the real selling point for the card.
1:23 for the record, wizards made an effort to differentiate between colorless and generic for clarity reasons: Generic was ALWAYS cost type, never a mana type. Old lands that produced colorless mana used numbers in grey circles. They all got errata'd to colorless symbols. In fact, for example, utility lands producing "1 generic" actually never produced "generic" and this is just a common misconception.
As an EDH player, there are some things I like with this. Example, my Esper Urza deck runs Akromora's Memorial, Darksteel Forge, Mycosynth Lattice Only two of those can be valid targets for this land though. But Lattice could help given that it makes everything colorless. So, really, I probably do not want this turn 1. Turn 1 - Land > Sol Ring > Arcane Signiant > Enlightened Tutor (Fetching Forge or Memorial) (Any Line that allows me to Tutor on T1 works for setting up T2) Turn 2 - Ugin's Labyrinth (Exile the Fetch) (6 Mana Available Untapped) But that is requiring a minimum of Tutor and Labyrinth in my hand Turn 1 to function with a white mana source in a 3 color deck. That may be asking for a lot. In fact I do not see a line of play where I want this turn 1. Even if I opened my hand with Labyrinth and say Forge or Memorial, how far can it get me? Labyrinth > Sol Ring (1C Flote) > Arcane Signiant (1C Float) > Thought Vessel? That opens turn two with 5 Colorless and 1 Color of my choice. Not the worst. That is a turn 2 Lattice. Potentially. I am not running Eldrazi Temple because that is useless for my deck. Lattice Turn 2 is probably my best outcome here.
I think its more the fact, while this card is op, there have been so many other leaks that those kinda outshined this one. They arent seeing this as a possibly manacrypt/sol ring on turn one
I am seeing a land that taps for 1 mana because I don't have a colorless 7 drop in my hand in the decks where I really want a turn 1 mana crypt or sol ring. Like what am I running that I can exile? Karn Liberated? there are already so many different lands I need to be running in tron and I am more worried about colors. Myr Enforcer? Artifact lands are strictly better for affinity, and there is no shortage of options. am I using an emrakul as a control wincon? I'm probably not even running a playset of viable targets. Like where is this card going? I can't see it. maybe I'm just blind, but nothing I can think of makes it work well.
The most important one I think is going to be Chalice on 1, since it just runs some decks out of the game pretty rapidly if you are on the draw. Scam and DRC hurts, yes. Burn is out, Affinity also hurts since they can't play their drums, none of the 1 mana Urza's Saga targets can be played, Pithing Needle is stopped in game 2/3, Hardened Scales is stuck in hand, etc. (I'm especially happy that it blocks the stupid monkey)
I may have a colorless modern prison deck that uses knowledge pool and soulless jailer. It also may use prototype portal and jesters scepter as an alternate wincon.
I think the 7 or more colorless is actually a very real limitation. It means that you need to either already be playing cards of those specifications or be comfortable adjusting your deck to include enough of them to fire consistently get this effect off. As of right now, that is not really the case. So I think currently the only deck where this sees play is Normal Tron. But to be clear, I think this card is still quite good.

Force the game back to basics
With an active Ugin labyrinth and leyline of the Guildpact you can get a turn 1 scion of Draco, and scion can be used to imprint onto the labyrinth so even the 5c decks are homes for this whole also removing the single downside this has in being a colorless land without the imprint
From the currently spoiled cards, I think "Flare of Denial" will be much more format warping than this since it's much easier to include in a larger amount of decks. Not just Merfolk, but any deck that runs blue creatures.
Well in the end we will see what Eldrazi Winter will bring us. I like it until now and I am looking forward for more. Can it be that we will get a Eldrazi Crab...of course Landfall is not a theme but they made the Mulldrifter to an Eldrazi Envoke-(Null)-Drifter or an Eldrazi Mill creature...okay I am probably wishing to much...or I am?🤔
this is the only card so far that ive seen that makes me quiver in fear. And it was pretty much immediately after seeing this card, I thought that. The rest of the set seems really well designed and for the most part balanced with trade off and the flair cycle so far (in a vacuum) seems like the best free spell cycle we've gotten so for in modern. the rest of them are powerful card but they need to be build around which is what I really like so far about everything spoiled so far, then dont just slot into everything like a good amount of mh2 cards did. But im amazed this card is being printed and I genuinely fear this card.
I think we are putting too much weight on the imprint. Yes it has an imprint but I don't think that should automatically mean it gets compared to other imprint cards. But rather should be compared to similar cards instead regardless of if it has the imprint keyword or not. The seven cost requirement is going to be more than doable if you are playing this in the right deck. Put a second copy of a card in your hand under the imprint and you're golden. Being a land means that it is less susceptible to removal/Counterspells compared to other additive mana engines that are artifacts or such. And the last thing and what I think truly pushes it over the edge is that it is still a Wastes. If Wizards really wanted to show at least some sort of restraint with this land they would've 100% let it enter the battlefield tapped which is a blanket effect that this card somehow gets to escape? Not being legendary I can understand but letting it enter untapped is nuts.
I will Knowledge pool was the first card that came to mind for imprint, but in my defense it was the first imprint card I saw with a big effect. But it's my favorite/least favorite card. I think it is hilarious but not worth the disruption it causes without everyone first being ok with it.
Who knows the whole math for this card on curve? How many 7+ cmc cards will you need to run for this to produce 2 Mana on turn one and so on and so forth? I think we need to start the discussion there
I think for artefact decks, affinity, tron ect, it might be a worthy cost to add in some more 7cmc spells to make it work. I don't see it being splashable in other decks that were not already ruining 7cmc spells because it will need to be a big commitment. 4 lands would need at least 10 7+cmc spells for every one in three hands to have one of both.
@@oscarshedwick4862 does Affinity really want to "ramp" that isn't an artifact? I know this card wouldn't be splashable, but even in Tron, what would be the math on this card's viability in making 2 Mana on turn 1. I think the 7+ CMC restriction might be a bit steep. I could 1000% be wrong though.
@@oscarshedwick4862 This is not playable in Affinity. Sojourner's Companion is the only card you can pitch to the land that is still run the deck. You could ad Enforcer, which would bring you up to 8, but this only counts colorless creatures, so Thought Monitor does not work. Tron and maybe UR Eldrazi (w/Nulldrifter and Elder Deep Fiend) are the builds for this.
Just running potential decks through he hypergeometric hand calculator. The odds of turn 2 Karn or The One Ring are less than 0.5%. You are removing 4 green/colored sources to make room for this card so no ancient stirrings etc. i.e you are making your deck much worse overall. This card has high potential for the future if more cards like Nulldrifter are printed but as of now this card is not broken. In affinity you are playing a not artifact land so you wont get free spells online turn 1 and you are delaying your free 4/4 by at least a turn by requiring that you tap the Ugin's labyrinth to get it back which also isn't an artifact so you are effectively wasting 1c mana and an artifact for the idea of a disneyland hand.
They don’t want to reprint the reserve list, so in the near future Legacy will be the new Vintage, Modern will be the new Legacy and Pioneer will be the new Modern. Vintage will be a collector only format. This is the way to make power creep without upsetting your player base.
I see a lot of talk in the comments about 7cmc being too restrictive. Theres going to be new artifact decks using sojourners companion and silly cards no one plays. Hands down. Might not be goos though
As a grixis shadow player.... not happy to see faster mana for tron, a deck ive always struggled beating with the interaction in my mainboard. Anf this just hiding tron pay offs from my thoughtseizes...
At worst it's a land at best it's a Sol ring as a land. I don't think this card will be a big flashy format warping card but it will be a subtle shift over time that in hindsight we will go "wow that was the most powerful card in MH3"
But I could also see it being a big flop since running enough 7cmc colourless spells to make this a reliable activation is risky. If you run 4 Ugin lands then how many spells do you run? since they have to be 7+cmc and colourless so Eldrazi maybe? even then the big colourless spells never hit me as amazing that I would run them in a deck where that wasn't the sole focus.
This requires more setup than a utopia sprawl and nobody is freaking out about that. This is not as consistent turn one, two untapped mana, especially when archetypes like scam are around and comparing it to an ancient tomb is pretty overblown gotta say
You should consider this card a companion. There are building restrictions imposed on using Ugin's Labyrinth. Considering this, the number of decks using this card is greatly reduced.
@@Amardarial But not every deck will have 7+cmc spells or want 2 colourless mana turn one or in the early game. You have to run a lot of 7cmc spells to see them often with 4 of these lands. If ou draw your 7cmc spell early game that's a dead draw especially if you're adding it in just for 2 colourless mana at which point run sol rings or other mana rocks.
@@oscarshedwick4862 Not sure your understanding, it's powerful enough that decks will change to play it, and decks that don't play it will be weaker then those who do.
really dont like this card, the most defining trait of modern I enjoy is the board mattering a lot, and the lack of fast mana. and with pitch cards and this land, It feels more and more modern is going to lose its identity
This card is insanely op. There is no real cost! You can get the card back. If you lost the card you paid the imprint for the rest of the game then sure bit better design. As ti stands it is utterly stupid and ridiculous.
It still isn't great. It's an OKAY card, nothing outstanding since it's only usage is for the niche decks like Eldrazi. I think the imprint keyword kinda manipulates everyone's opinion of the card. Just because it has imprint, it's not close to those other imprint artifact cards. Now if it was a 0 cost artifact, then it would be without question a busted card.
Blah, blah, blah...Urza's Saga...blah, blah, blah. It wasn't busted, nor is Ugin's Labyrinth. It's good in exactly one shell: Tron. It will probably be used for Eldrazi. It will do what it's supposed to do in bringing an Eldrazi Tron style deck back. But you're not just casually dropping this into Tron without adding a considerable number of 7 cost Colorless cards. It's literally easier to just dig for Tron. And why would you ever play this over a Tron land? Good card? Yes. Busted, broken, meta defining? No.
No is not busted card i will explain why in legacy is worse card than ancient tomb and in legacy is wasteland so you 2 for one is only usable in colourless deck you cant use it in initiative deck not in goblinns why cause they no consist of 7 colouress spells its very specific land that can only used in specific decks that and even in that decks is anciet tomb better , city of traitor dont need setup even drown back is worse in cloudpost deck this is not good cause they usally dont play anciet tomb this land is on crystal vein level card , goblins no play this they dont play colourless card of 7 mana cost in goblin is unplayable this land initiative also dont play 7 mana colourless cards .. and in modern it can be used in new sort of eldrazi deck instead of eye of ugin thats only deck i see is good now maybe in legacy eldratzi too but thats all..
Meta Warping card, it will force decks to change how they are built to play it, while decks that already play this way just get better. Easily a ban watch card, with high chance of bans in Modern.
Premature to call it busted. It's very good, too soon to say it's busted. You're thinking of this card in the context of the current meta and without actual play testing theorizing perfect hand draw scenarios.
@Amardarial of course it's meta warping. What's wrong with that? That's not inherently busted, it just means there is a new kid on the block. Colorless decks are going to see a boost with this. If that increases the number of top tier decks, then that's awesome. If it simply rotates decks and the number of top decks stays the same, that's not great. If it dominates and reduces the number of top tier decks, that's really bad and busted. We don't know yet how this is going to shake out. Green tron probably won't run this very often, E tron will for sure.
Yeah e tron get the chalic on 1 turn one no downside thank you wizards for bring eldrazi winter back this summer. Question who asked for tron to get support smh

Also Urza's cave is quite insane for dark depth enjoyers regarless of the format
It's good in a few decks as a 1-2 of, Tron, Amulet Titan, Lands.dec, etc
Love your content. This card is obviously broken - probably has an expiration date - but we’ll see!
Ugin's Lab will fit nicely in my Big Bois edh deck
This with the new emrakul in tron modern was the one thing i thought would be super busted
Yeah cause what modern really needed with ancient tomb. Tron goes brrrrr
Ah, Knowledge Pool. Fun times throwing this down with OG Teferi on board and locking up everyone else's game
I can see this being the reason land destruction gets sideboarded more. Destroy a land and they lose the 7+ mana imprinted card.
How many 7+ CMC colorless cards are you running my guy
Ya, that’s the big question I don’t see a lot of people asking.
Tron can run quite a few with the new devour of destiny.
@@daltonbrasier5491 Does Tron usually struggle for colorless mana? Using the land drop for a non-tron land seems like a significant downside
As a victim of it in extended, when you say imprint I think of scepter chant.
also this mitigates the downside of urza's saga on turn one, you play this turn two and just flood the board with constructs immediately
The fact that the main prison deck in Legacy is Mono-Red will always make me laugh
It's functionally the same as simian spirit guide AND ancient tomb when eldrazi shredded the modern format.
Is this gonns be the fateful return of Myr Enforcer?
I hate that this is going to be so fucking expensive because I'll HAVE to get this for my colorless Eldrazi edh
Why is no one mentioning domain with this card? It allows for a t1 scion of Draco.
Draco is the only colorless 7+drop in the deck though isn't it?
They don’t want to reprint the reserve list, so in the near future Legacy will be the new Vintage, Modern will be the new Legacy and Pioneer will be the new Modern. Vintage will be a collector only format. This is the way to make power creep without upsetting your player base.
I see a lot of talk in the comments about 7cmc being too restrictive. Theres going to be new artifact decks using sojourners companion and silly cards no one plays. Hands down. Might not be goos though
My biggest issue with this is that it's not a legendary land. You could have multiples out at the same time so gross so bannable
No one is talking about the fact you can protect the imprinted card from t1 grief lol that’s actually a huge upside not even close to a downside
As a grixis shadow player.... not happy to see faster mana for tron, a deck ive always struggled beating with the interaction in my mainboard. Anf this just hiding tron pay offs from my thoughtseizes...
Portal to Phyrexia is a pretty good card to pitch to the land
Dawg I just packed a borderless foil one wtf
The eldrazi spoilers are absolutely insane.
So this is what people mean by
Suffering from success huh?
10:15 rip Harambe!
Of course Tron is gonna play this
This requires more setup than a utopia sprawl and nobody is freaking out about that. This is not as consistent turn one, two untapped mana, especially when archetypes like scam are around and comparing it to an ancient tomb is pretty overblown gotta say
Knowledge pool + chad dranith magistrate
You should consider this card a companion. There are building restrictions imposed on using Ugin's Labyrinth. Considering this, the number of decks using this card is greatly reduced.
Except like with Companions it turns out the restriction isn't really a restriction, and everyone just shoves it in anyways.
@@Amardarial i can just not agree with this, even guildpact were this a meme, and this messes even more with ur deck argueably
Eldrazi Tron rules
I believe the best deck this slots into is eldrazi tron
Some people have said that the neo lands are better then this XD.
Yess im a evil player
really dont like this card, the most defining trait of modern I enjoy is the board mattering a lot, and the lack of fast mana. and with pitch cards and this land, It feels more and more modern is going to lose its identity
Land destruction.
It's a 2 for 1 then if you get them after they have tapped it for mana.
@@oscarshedwick4862 "Dies to removal" is NOT enough, and shows how little you understand Magic.
@@Amardarial right cause u should just be able to play through things, like 2 ships passing?
@@storeblaa This is nearly as bad of a comment. Yes, stuff dies to removal, doesn't actually mean anything.
@@Amardarialbut it does tho?
Premature to call it busted. It's very good, too soon to say it's busted. You're thinking of this card in the context of the current meta and without actual play testing theorizing perfect hand draw scenarios.
No, it's Meta Warping, the Meta is what this makes it, not the other way around. It's that powerful.
The more I consider situations with this card the worse I think this card is. you are overhyping to heck.
Yeah e tron get the chalic on 1 turn one no downside thank you wizards for bring eldrazi winter back this summer. Question who asked for tron to get support smh
