Why no talk of Cthonian Nightmare? I think that it’s probably not going to see any yawg play because the slots are really really tight with this set, but it is an interesting card if we’re trying to up our number of undying creatures. Also I think the fact that the boggart can be gotten off of a birthing ritual and can sacrifice to find a yawg is very important if you’re building with the ritual.
I wouldn’t dilute the creature base more than what has already been done. I have an initial feeling that you don’t want to run both ritual and cauldron. I see a ritual list being more aggro-combo

It honestly seems to me like you could end up with just a couple different ways to build, with no real true honest “best”version, except for what is good that weekend

I'm curious to hear if you think Toxic Deluge has any role in the 75. I personally think it might be decent enough to try in the board for a lot of creature heavy match ups because of the amount of undying in the deck it would end up being considerably one-sided
I would be very surprised - it’s not really what you want to be doing in a creature based strategy. Not only that, life total is the deck’s biggest resource next to mana - you don’t want to use cards that limit the namesake of the deck.
It'll be interesting to see where the deck lands after the set release. Yawgmoth has always been a top contender for a while, so it might lead to WotC B&R taking a closer look at the deck should the win-rates spike in the following months (And if so, my money would be on Soul Cauldron).
The power level of the whole format is going to skyrocket - I don’t foresee Yawg standing out above the rest. It’s a very strong strategy, but it is on par with what all of the other decks are doing as well. I don’t think anything is getting banned from it, any time soon.

I do have to say the absolute most powerful part of birthing ritual is that it will trigger the turn you play it unlike fiend artisan. Also I think phyrexian tower instead of using it like a play fast card like it is traditionally used in legacy nic fit I feel like you'd probably use it on turn 3 to get yawg out much earlier or to fix mana for things like geralf's messenger or play two spells on turn 3 like the option of 1 land open to drop a bowmaster is really strong. Also the potential turn 2 grist is very interesting. I don't think it will be a 4 of but I feel like it would be a waste not to at least two as the potential upside it brings is ridiculous.
I'm not saying its Fiend Artisan, but has a little bit of that vibe. Tower is powerful - I will play it if I can. Yes, it will help ramp into creatures ahead of curve. Turn 2 Grist is nothing new, but will be more consistent with Flare and access to Tower. All of the cards are good, but there are too many concessions that need to be made to include them all. One of the powerful, new cards will be on the outside looking in.
@@Control4Dazeyeah I knew you were just comparing the two as they are similar in their roles. I was just pointing out that birthing ritual has an instant impact the turn it is played while being weaker initially still helps it not just get removed after a turn cycle. Being an enchantment helps too. I think the biggest problem for sure like you said is that there is a bunch of new cool stuff but actually trying to fit it into an already fairly tight list is going to be hard without a major retuning of the decks gameplan.
There is very little wiggle room with the manabase - if its not a basic, and you're running 2+ Geist, your other lands will likely need to produce both {B} and {G} mana.
I think if ritual ends up being that good, we might just cut chords and walls completely. While wall is really powerful with chord I think it's just the weakest card in the deck in a vacuum

The problem is when you play Yawg, every life matters that much more because most of the time, 1 life = 1 card. It gets trickier because you need G for T1 Halfling, which doesn't help cast a 2nd halfling, nor a Strangleroot Geist. The deck can also run into not having GGG for Chord, especially during the Bowmaster-heavy starts. Factor in the Underground Mortuaries and it really is a pain in the ass to get the mana right for Yawg.
@@Control4Daze No worries! When a 2-color modern deck isn't sure if 1 or 2 Twilight Mire is the correct number, you know that deck has a difficult time with colored mana.

I agree, Phyrexian Tower is crazy good. With that being said, there is a cost to playing it. It doesn’t work in every shell.

You mention the Strangleroot Geist conundrum a lot; what about Yavimaya?

I just don't see how mana is an issue in Modern with shocks and fetches
It shouldn't be an issue if you build your deck correctly - with that being said, you can't just do whatever the heck you feel like.
