Just bought a 2019 991.2 Carerra 4 gts. So far, my favorite of 70+ in my lifetime. (Not proud of going thru that many cars, lol). Traded a more powerful car for this and zero regrets. Steering & handling are superior!
It is only in the US that people drive around with a large cup in their hands. A 911 requires full attention all the time , so have your drink before or after the drive. An nowadays every smartphone has Google maps to find way wherever you are. But this car is really amazing. Just enjoy owning it. 😊

Thanks for the review. Don't worry about the negative comments on here. There are already a million reviews about all the other attributes of the car. It's nice to hear someone chime in on some daily driving points. A shitty cupholder would drive me crazy after a while. Center lock wheels are a great point too. That could lead to an entirely different approach on models.

I would add that that steering wheel could tilt up more, for exiting. It seems to go down more than necessary, guess it all depends on your size. Also power seats move so slow but this is true with most cars and I wish Porsche had kept a handbrake in the car. Not a fan of these electronic ones. Especially on hill starts I find they release too slow, much rather do it myself.
I personally agree with all of your comments, the only other thing I would change if I could when I had mine was it feels like the car could do with a little more torque low down. The car is plenty fast enough but this would make it the perfect car. Keep up the great videos Joe...!👍🏻
Joe, I forgot to mention I protected the underside of my front lip with a strip of 1 inch wide black body-side molding, the stuff that is 1/4 inch thick. I used three strips, center and one on each side.
Buy a smaller coffee, should have spec'd your car with the front end lift system if you have a steep driveway. If you can afford a £100k+ motor you can afford a spare set of centre lock wheels for track or winter. Who really needs Apple car play, later year GTS's have it, it ain't all that, it's not a biggy, the chassis, drive train and looks are what this car is all about. All first world problems, your car is super dope. The colour and wheels are a perfect match. It's a real beauty! 👌🏽 Enjoy it. The exact same complaints I have about my 2011 GTS! Especially the damn front splitter! My daughter calls ramps and speed bumps NONE Porsche friendly roads! :-)
those cupholders are great. buy a smaller drink. another thing. if you were to put a bigger drink in. That the bottom goes further down then one would complain that the drink would hit the passengers knees. Those holders are great. pure and simple.

Just put an aftermarket apple play module in behind the PCM and you'll get a great solution. You wont able able to tell any difference when looking at it.

Lets go though your complaints: 1. The car is not a coffee shop and it's designed function is as a mode of transport hence the priority for 'car' related items and not 'drinking support facilities' (should you be drinking whilst driving anyway, especially in a Porsche?); 2. You know the design and style of the car and as it's a 'sports' car it's going to be low - alternatively get a front lifter or buy a truck; 3. Apple car play - get it upgraded but at some point there has to be a limit about how much technology can be added to a car given the time limits to test, develop, manufacture , introduce and add to the building process ; 4. Wheels - centre lock - surely you must have thought about winter tyres before you bought it so why was it not considered then? Alternative, change the hubs to the 5 stud wheel fitment it was an option for the GTS (and for the Turbo's)? 5. Price - buy a cheaper car. If you want a Porsche one pays the price for the Porsche because of design, style, reliability, speed, experience and retention of value, especially GTS's. Perhaps you should buy a cheap truck with a mobile coffee shop with winter tyres with an iPad with all your apps (sorry Joe, I had to add that). Nice car though and probably the best colour.
Ha!!! I absolutely love my GTS! I should have made that clear in this video. If you check out my other vids about my GTS, you'll see how much I love this car and extol its great virtues. I have had the car since new, 2015, and not much out there has convinced to trade it in for something else. A car that came close was the 718 Spyder. The Spyder is so sharp, nimble and fun, it made me wonder if it should replace the GTS with that. Then I drive my GTS again and I am happy. The other car that I would give up my GTS for would be a 991.2 GT3. Long-winded way of saying that these items I talk about in this video are very, very minor things that do not overshadow my enjoyment of the car over the last 8 years.
Nice video Joe. I agree about the buttons on the console. I like them. I am in the market for a 997 w/PDK and I don't like where they are placed on that series of Porsche. Too far of a reach. On the cupholders, Dude, drink less coffee! A small, black MickeyD is all I need. Don't need no gallon of Starbucks. :) Seriously though, you have a very nicely spec'ed GTS. Beautiful color.
Alright, alright, smaller cups. Excellent point. Here is the irony, since this video, I have given up coffee. Not due to comments on the video but for health reasons. I wanted to cut out the caffeine and sugar. When I go on long trips, I sometimes stop and get a bottle of water and that bottle won't stay stationary in the holder either. Which is my point, they are beautifully engineered but not very useful. I think the 991 console is better than the 997 console. I had the 997.2 and it was fine at the time. But now that I am in the 991.1, I really like the change. Having said that , the 997 is a great car overall. I loved it. Once you find one you like, I am sure you will be happy with it. Great car.
Joe, real sports cars do not have cupholders. LOL My 993 doesn't but my 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS does. I too am not overly impressed by the PCM, maybe because I am not ultra familiar with it. But I'd like to transfer some GPS waypoints to it from a memory stick instead of entering them separately. Don't know if I can do that.
True, there is a lift system. I bought this car off the dealer lot after it had been built. The lift wasn't specified on this car. Had I ordered the car, I would spec the lift. On the cupholders, which I realize is a small and insignificant thing, I could just not have liquid in the car at all. And usually I don't. But on long trips, sometimes I like having a bottle of water. A standard small bottle of water falls out of that cupholder so I don't even bother putting it in there. Having said all that, this car is so fantastic that the complaints I have are very minor.
As a 911 owner, I am furious at you for driving your car with a cup of coffee in your right hand. Put the coffee down, grab the wheel with both hands and drive the car! It's not a Corolla, it's a 911!
You are right. no excuses. I was just trying to make a point about the limited use of those cup holders, which I could have done while stationary then poured out the coffee before driving off. You're right.
I had a 997.2 C2S and I hated the cup holders as well. Even with a small cup. I don't care about having a big cup but they're too damn shallow. I could NEVER trust them and would always hover my hand around the few times I used them.

The cup holder looks like it would hold on a fairly short turn. You moved your hand before you turned. Those are all trivial! The only problem in the car is the phone holder you added. Verdict: the only shortcomings are the problem you created by buying a cheap phone holder. You should have bought a high quality phone holder. I will trade you even up with my 2002 C4S.
I think you need to switch from venti to short on your Starbucks brews. I have a 996 with no cup holder. Coffee cup is held near crotch. lol Beautiful car.
Center lock wheels are a huge turnoff. that alone puts the Carrera S over this for me. and not for the reason you list. because they're a pain to take off or even find a service place that has a tool for it, plus tougher getting after market wheels
ANYONE who would drive a GTS (or any Porsche sports car) in the snow: A) DOESN'T deserve to own one; B) SHOULD BE BARRED from owning one; C) CLEARLY has more dollars THAN SENSE.
The rear summer tires wear out faster than the front tires. The fronts seemed to have lasted about twice as long than the rears. Having said that, I have had to get new rear tires due to punctures in the first few years of ownership. Picked up a nail. Since I purchased a wheel and tire warranty, the damaged tires was repaired under warranty. If I recall correctly, in 6 years of ownership, I have had to buy one set of rears and later, one set of fronts, out of my own pocket, separate from the warranty.
I love caffeine, it’s addictive, it’s nice way to start a day, the only way perhaps, a drug nether the less. I love driving, it too is also like a drug, it keeps you high on youth and testosterone and whatever else floats your boat. What your creating here is a cocktail, if you like cocktails that’s great for those with high levels testosterone and imagination. Porsche is all about function, catering for coffee whilst driving a machine with a pedigree for racing is not at the forefront of technology, if it was it would be a Ford or something similar. I love coffee, I love Porsche, I also like service stations!
Instead of winter tires or even a wheel set I might just buy an old accord or something to drive in bad weather. Lovely car. Don't you love the pdk transmission?
Regarding that coffee thing fault. You've got the finest European car you can get, so please choose a European size of coffee, not a horse related bucket. Do you really need so much of this drink? Doesn't you Porsche wake you up?
NO vehicle manufacturer in the World makes Retractable cup holders that are intended to be used by the driver whilst the vehicle is being driven. And although passengers could use them in this case no manufacturer could make a cup holder that would cater for everyone’s possible style of driving and prevent spillages of some sort occurring. Therefore it would be a pointless exercise altogether. As such any criticism surrounding this has zero credence
DON'T drink (or especially eat)anything in your car. Problem #1 fixed. Replace the radio/head unit with a new top-of-the line Kenwood or Pioneer. They have Apple Car Play, and better Nav. Nice car; take care of it, don't drink or eat in it! Good Luck!

You have to get a small cup of coffee and you have to hit every driveway at an angle like a Lowrider which sucks and I have the S I wish I had axle lift I’d be my only dream but you can’t add it.
Coffee isn’t supposed to come in a big gulp container. Have espresso and skip the girl drinks. jk Tip for you, a Starbucks tall fits fine or just buy the Porsche design double wall mugs, they’re great too. Want crap cup holders? Try an R8 gen 1 manual.

the front lip is a $200 item on suncoast, but that comes unpainted which can get up there in cost. great video!
the splitter doesn't stick out, it's just lower and the car is lower too. Front axle lift will fix that.

I have heard from a lotus owner that you can buy an additional plastic bumper to add to most popular car makes to protect the real bumper

I agree with buttons. I like them over touch screens. Using an infotainment touchscreen to adjust volume, adjust HVAC.... Just as bad as texting.

Is the center lock wheels standard on the GTS? Does the 2016 GTS come with 5-lug wheels?
Center lock wheels are standard on the GTS but some owners ordered them with 5-lugs. So it all depends on how the owner/dealer ordered the car.

My backup camera is OEM. I am not sure when they started but I have one in my 2015.

I had a 997.2 C2S and I hated the cup holders as well. Even with a small cup. I don't care about having a big cup but they're too damn shallow. I could NEVER trust them and would always hover my hand around the few times I used them.

How about the gigantic reflection of the dash top in the windshield? That can't be a plus.
That's an interesting observation. The camera picked that up but when I am driving, I don't see that reflection. Weird.

I drive mine with both hands on the wheel. I have never used the cup holders. 911s are about driving, not mobile Starbucks.

Those are all trivial! The only problem in the car is the phone holder you added. Verdict: the only shortcomings are the problem you created by buying a cheap phone holder. You should have bought a high quality phone holder. I will trade you even up with my 2002 C4S.

Center lock wheels are a huge turnoff. that alone puts the Carrera S over this for me. and not for the reason you list. because they're a pain to take off or even find a service place that has a tool for it, plus tougher getting after market wheels
ANYONE who would drive a GTS (or any Porsche sports car) in the snow:
A) DOESN'T deserve to own one;
B) SHOULD BE BARRED from owning one;
C) CLEARLY has more dollars THAN SENSE.
Joe How have your tires held up on the GTS
The rear summer tires wear out faster than the front tires. The fronts seemed to have lasted about twice as long than the rears. Having said that, I have had to get new rear tires due to punctures in the first few years of ownership. Picked up a nail. Since I purchased a wheel and tire warranty, the damaged tires was repaired under warranty. If I recall correctly, in 6 years of ownership, I have had to buy one set of rears and later, one set of fronts, out of my own pocket, separate from the warranty.
The glass holder is European size cups.. not the huge US cups...

I love driving, it too is also like a drug, it keeps you high on youth and testosterone and whatever else floats your boat. What your creating here is a cocktail, if you like cocktails that’s great for those with high levels testosterone and imagination. Porsche is all about function, catering for coffee whilst driving a machine with a pedigree for racing is not at the forefront of technology, if it was it would be a Ford or something similar. I love coffee, I love Porsche, I also like service stations!

Regarding that coffee thing fault. You've got the finest European car you can get, so please choose a European size of coffee, not a horse related bucket. Do you really need so much of this drink? Doesn't you Porsche wake you up?

NO vehicle manufacturer in the World makes Retractable cup holders that are intended to be used by the driver whilst the vehicle is being driven. And although passengers could use them in this case no manufacturer could make a cup holder that would cater for everyone’s possible style of driving and prevent spillages of some sort occurring. Therefore it would be a pointless exercise altogether. As such any criticism surrounding this has zero credence

Replace the radio/head unit with a new top-of-the line Kenwood or Pioneer. They have Apple Car Play, and better Nav.

Does the car have Bluetooth?
You have to get a small cup of coffee and you have to hit every driveway at an angle like a Lowrider which sucks and I have the S I wish I had axle lift I’d be my only dream but you can’t add it.

Tip for you, a Starbucks tall fits fine or just buy the Porsche design double wall mugs, they’re great too.
