991.2 Porsche 911 GTS: Still The Most Powerful Carrera!!

  • This week I drove a lovely 991.2 Carrera GTS, and man oh man was it a blast to drive the most powerful Carrera money can buy! To say that it was a sensational driving experience would be an understatement! I found myself only wanting more, and was sad to give it back :/
    The 991.2 offers a slightly smaller footprint than the new 992, but much of the same engineering tech and a nearly identical power-plant. Even better, the 991.2 GTS' have depreciated just enough to make them more wallet friendly than brand new base 992. What do you get by swinging for the GTS? Aside from 450hp, you get everything you'd get on a Carrera S, plus a sporty body kit, sports exhaust, center lock wheels, and sports chrono ALL STANDARD!
    Objectively the 992 is better, and Porsche has progressed just as we'd hope and expect... with that said, money is money, and I'm not sure I'd pay 50-60% more for a brand new 992 GTS (whenever it comes). To be fair, I would spend this same $100k~ish on a 997 GT3 instead: if I wanted an EVEN MORE visceral and certainly more analog driving experience.
    But, balancing price, newness, performance, and experience... this car does it all and more, I'd just check out the 7speed manual as well !!

    I was lucky enough to buy a 2017 GTS in December 2021. God Gawd do I love this car. Your review was spot on....this is my 7th Porsche that has included a 2014 GT3 and a 2015 Cayman GTS. I love this one the best. It'd been flawless except for as water put repair, done under warranty. The only car I'd replace it would be is a 991.2 Camera GTS Targa....But, I'd have to pony up $30,000 + to make the switch.

    The reason you are hearing the thumping noise when driving slow and turning in a parking lot is that the tires and the ground is cold. The tires are Summer Performance tires. It has nothing to do with any problem with the engineering of the car itself.

    • @Reoniz
      @Reoniz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya this is what I've been hearing more and more. It's still something you wouldn't experience on just any car, regardless of the above conditions being true, so while I wouldn't say it's an engineering problem per se... it is certainly a characteristic that's true more so of Porsche than most other cars.

    • @mschacht69

      I had that thumping noise with my 991.1 Carrera S. On my 17 GTS, no tire thumping...running the stock Pirelli tires. Also note, the one option that is a must, is radiator grill screens...and a nice add on it is the center mounted water radiator. It come in a kit from Suncoast Porsche in FL.

      I freaked out after I purchased my Porsche and heard the noise and felt it. Called the dealership immediately and they explained to me about the tires being cold and it’s a Porsche thing. Wish they would’ve warned me before taking the car home. 😂

    You could also purchase a 991.2 Carrera T for much less and do a stage 1 APR tune if you’re looking to save a few dollars. There are some optional extras that come standard in a Carrera T. If you’re feeling brave you could even get the bigger turbos with a stage 3 tune and put a GT3 RS to shame and even give a GT2 a run for its money. Not a bad option if you’re not trying to spend GT kind of money.

    2:10 luckily I have a 7-speed GTS. Even though I have driven a PDK in a 911, I would not consider one in my personal car. Strange, I have the PCCB option on my car and I was told they would squeak but there was never a hint of them squeaking. Nice thing is they do not rust and no brake dust either.

    Came across this channel and you did a fabulous job reviewing it. I dont like just hearing great car, great blah blah so well done. As for the 100k question, I went with the Porsche GTS over a Nissan GTR. For me it was price vs quality. GTR is quicker but the price they hold today is too high and many examples have either been tuned or badly treated whereas the Porsche caters to a different crowd/age and are lower mileage and better looked after, in my opinion. Would love to see a video comparing the two (similar year and spec)

    @maxp3764 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some nitpicks, sorry lol. that’s not aerokit - every 991 carrera has the “retractable duck tail” by default. aerokit is a fixed wing that they bolt on over the sport design ducktail - another spoiler option which is non-retractable. The 911 Turbo is a daily driver and is comfy, it’s just in the “supercar” line of 911s along with the GT2RS, where as the Carrera/GT3 are more of a “sports car” line.

    • @Reoniz
      @Reoniz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No reason to apologize for your nitpicks. Although I got some rebuttals for you!! Of course I know that all 911’s have the retractable spoiler standard, but if you look closely this one has a slight ducktail lip at the end of it, where the standard ones (found on my review of a base 991.2) don’t. I’ve even seen GTS out in the wild without this slight lip, and I wasn’t able to find out what the exact name is. So you’re right that it’s not the aerokit, but I’m not sure why some 991.2 have this and some don’t 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️
      I kinda tend to agree with the idea you mention here in the second part... but I gotta make an argument for the GTS!! I’m obviously you could daily a 918, but what’s the point of a base Carrera then?! It can’t only be about dollar amounts. Hahah
      But I appreciate your comment! Thank u

      @@Reoniz .......Its the sportdesign rear spoiler. Its not the aerokit package. Aerokit packages don't always have a wing. Its a design thing. The 992 has an aerokit that has the rear wing and without the rear wing.
