Trangia Accessories - What's good to get

  • Once you have your Trangia there are a number of accessories that will enhance the use of the cooking system.
    I'm no expert but after viewing a whole lot of videos on TH-cam you soon get the idea, based on other's more extensive experience, that some accessories are a good buy.
    I run through what I have bought in addition to my Trangia 27.
    One item I did not include in my video was the Trangia 500ml fuel bottle. The best accessory to keep your meths fuel safe and make filling the Trangia burner very safe and easy. By far the number one recommenced accessory in my view
    One further point - at this time of year in 2021 I have noticed "out of stock" on some websites and retailers of Trangia products. Even the webshop on Trangia Sweden has a lot of accessories as "out of stock". I can't see the situation improving as we get close to the end of year gift giving season. Some sub-models of the 25 and 27 are also hard to get. So if you are interested you may have to hunt around online with some suppliers providing free delivery but overseas suppliers can be expensive and take some time before delivery

    Good video. Thank you. I pretty much upgraded my 30 years old alu series 25 with the same choices as you. I managed to also get the non stick pots at a very good price so went an now totally non stick. I didn't buy the Trangia gas burner. There are third party ones by GoSystems and others out of China which are about a third of the price of the Trangia in the UK and fit and work perfectly. The great benefit of the gas burner is the overpipe which heats the gas as it feeds into the burner and keeps a consistent burn in cold weather.
    The little cutting board is a great accessory.
    I switched out my kettle to the GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Steel Kettle. Fits the series 25, and has a very wide lid opening so makes storage of the handle and burner easy. And its stainless.
    The other accessory I have is the Trangia pot stand. It's expensive for what it is and you could make one, but it allows pots of all sizes to sit on the stove. It's an accessory I now can't do without.

    Great introduction to the T27 series.
    Yes, Duossal items are expensive. I bought a Duossal fry pan first, and later Sauce pans in Duossal.

    I’d recommend the billy can as well. I’ve got a Trangia 27, and although I do cook pasta and rice etc in the pots, if you’ve used the pan to fry, I don’t like using it to cover the pot whilst the pasta is cooking so I invested in the 2.5litre billycan. The whole thing fits neatly inside the billycan and doesn’t add that much bulk. It’s got it’s own lid and just makes it that much more flexible.

    I love my Trangia but I wont cook on aluminium. So I've swapped everything out for stainless. Kept the burner and the bag. It's never let me down yet. Good rundown. Not everyone knows about the accessories. Cheers.

    You get 2 good sized cups of coffee or tea out of the kettle. Nice video By the way and of course we now have the Trangia triangle which is fantastic!

      Recently got the kettle. Plan on using it for rice-noodles (ersatz, non-gluten Ramen?) plan on getting the hard-anodized set, with a gas burner. Already have the alcohol burner - the “doorknob.”

      @@dennisyoung4631 why cook noodles in a kettle? :D

    • @dennisyoung4631

      @@Aiyqk boil the water, without the noodles, then pour the boiling water into a bowl or cup which has the noodles.
      This presumes you are using the rice-noodles, or other noodles, which need but a *very* few minutes to cook. Noodles that need any real time most likely will not work with this method.
      In the past, I would have spoken of Ramen noodles, but after leaning I have a certain degree of “non-celiac gluten sensitivity” - not nearly as bad as someone I know, but still not a joke - I have to avoid gluten.

      @@dennisyoung4631 oh that sucks, cant really imagine not eating gluten anymore. but makes sense now with the kettle ofc thinking about it again, but i was thinking about just using a pot with the pan as lid to boil water. thats why i got the 25-3 HA without kettle a few days ago. i just had to buy it for 79€ (new)

    Will attest the Winter Thingy is needed in the super cold trying to cook breakfast
    Coffee Sock V60 and plastic V60 should fit in your kit

    Mate, we got plenty of snow in Oz now so sure a snow shoe for your Trangia will be suitable. Hope to get to the Alps some day. The gas burner is excellent but I tend to use the alcohol burner when I just want to get out for a day and want to not have to listen to the hissing gas burner sound but rather enjoy the silence. The multi function of the plastic pot lid is good but I try not to use it as a cutting board, cost way to much to cut up veggies on it.

    • @stationplaza4631
      @stationplaza4631 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ordered the multi disc for my saucepans, so it can be used to strain veggies only.
      Trangia make some great kit.

    one month after you released this video, I got the 27-1HA which is just perfect for me, and then I added the kettle... but, in this current electricity debacle, I also got the gas attachment for use at home (all from Varusteleka)... problem is, it's the accessories where they make the money ?!?..

    Where did you get the gas burner? The label says Trangia but I thought their version has a vertical control knob…

    • @default9740
      @default9740 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this is the later version, and works to some extent with the gas bottle inverted. Probably Trangia went with the improved Chinese model!

    • @addyctive
      @addyctive 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Australian model is different to everywhere else bcos of compliance. They had to replace a lot of parts like the gas control valve, the flame spreader/burner etc. Model no 762527, rest of the world is 742527. Dont ask me how I know, I recently bought the aussie model and have just ordered the UK version as the flame pattern is better and the braided hose has more flex to fit in the Trangia Triangle.

    • @MrPetuP

      I have two Trangia gas burners, the one about 25 years old has a horizontal control knob and the newer one has a vertical one.

  • @addyctive
    @addyctive 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just got the gas burner. The flame pattern on these are bad. The US/Europe ones have a nice spread whereas the aussie ones which were modified to meet local standards do not spread nicely even on full blast 😩.

      Where can I find out more about this? I live in Tas and have just bought an Aus one .

    • @addyctive
      @addyctive 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wherebluemeetsgreenoutdoors The oz model has a few different parts like the regulator valve, flame spreader etc. Theres a couple of youtube videos testing the original version by trangia with a vertical regulator instead of the horizontal gold colored ones we get in Australia. The flame pattern on the original ones differ to ours. The flame spreads out instead of funneling into one long flame therefore creating a hotspot in the middle of the pan.

    Yeah, first the corona, and now even more, the ukraine war made swedes buy up on emergency kit, and a trangia is "granddad's wisdom" to have in any family, if there's a risk of poweroutage or other trouble. They have been having trouble keeping up with demand.
