Excellent video for campers trying to decide which set to get. I decided on the 27 series with the billy can. I purchased the multi-disc strainer, winter attachment, prints gas burner, 25 orange cover bag, and a pan stand so I could use my percolator to make coffee. Brilliant design and it is so easy to use, even on a windy day.
I just bought my first set..a 27. Disappointed. Never used it. Returning to get a 25. I always watched you with a 27. Thought i wanted it. Your right theres nothing to compare to in regular video. Thank you!! I wish i had seen this before i ordered. This video was 5 years ago...doubt youll see my comment but thank you sir...i have learned much from you. Florida USA
I'm so incredibly thankful for you people who take the time to show things and share on TH-cam. I wanted to buy a Trangia set and was looking for info. 25 or 27 or what? Now I know, thanks to you. Thank you very much for your video and sharing.
Finally! A good informative comparison of the 2 systems. I didn’t know there were billy cans. Now I want the 27 billy can to finish off my set. Recently purchased a Chinese copy gas burner for my set. Brilliant addition at a fraction of the original cost and clean pots too.
Check out eagle products. I’ve just added to my collection with their 0.7L copper based stainless steel kettle. Gorgeous and really good build quality. Built in Norway and very trangia styled but with bells on.
Trangia has a rather difficult part numbering system. Will provide some basic pieces of the puzzle to give more understanding what these numbers mean. The larger storm cooker, 25, was the twenty-fifth item sold by Trangia. The Trangia 27 was the seventy-seventh item that Trangia produced and sold. This is the main rule for how Trangia has built up the item system. The next number, like the even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0, indicates that the set is equipped with a coffee pot. An odd number describes which material such as wind protection, pots and frying pans have. The number 3, 5, 7 and 9 means that the set has a non stick frying pan, but no coffee pot. The pots are made of the same material as the wind shields. Trangia 27-7, -8, -9 and -0 where wind protection, pots can be made of different materials, eg wind protection in standard alu, and frying pans in hard anodized aluminum or non stick and the pots in hard anodized aluminum, and with or without a coffee pot ( even or odd number). Duossal and Blackversion have a different part number system.
Hi Paul. Missing your vids mate. Please come back. Just a foot note, which you probably know anyway being the master of all that is Trangia. I've just discovered that the lid of the 14cm Zebra Lunch box fits on the 27 series Trangia saucepan a treat(give or take a nano mm). Happy Days. Hope you and Peter are safe and well.
Thanks for a great video. I've recently stayed volunteering as a girl guide leader and encountered trangia cooking. Now I really want one for myself and this video was really informative
Great video. As you say, a side by side comparison of the 2 sets is useful. I have a fairly venerable 27 "Duosel" kit (aluminium lined with stainless steel - no longer made) which has stood the test of time. With the arrival of grandkids I have sometimes thought a 25 might be more useful. I have the 2.5 billy on order and, as you say, it will bring the 27 up to 25 level potential! Keep up the good work.
Actually I’m glad to say the duossal is back for sale!!! It is indeed praiseworthy. The best kit out there, and probably the best ever made. I heard someone say the size and weight difference between 27 and 25 isn’t that substantial, and the size difference makes the 25 much easier and pleasant to cook on, so I’m going with that instead of the suggested by manufacturer and this reviewer. Although the fact that I’m going solo, I do hope it will be temporary :) if it is, I’ll be ready hahah
I bought the 25 series HA Trangia. I do a lot of cycle touring and was told by other cycle tourists to get the bigger one as cooking with the 27 series you will often have to cook again as the pots are too small to cook enough to fill cycle tourers bellies. It was good advice. So pleased I didn't get the smaller 27 series. Also it doesn't help that Trangia reverse label the different size stoves i.e. call the smaller one the 27 and the larger one the 25 series. Bonkers. But aside from this they are great stoves everything you need packaged like a Russian doll. I would also get the HA pans, the gas burner and an extra pan handle. File down the edges as they can be a bit sharp! Also Trangia should provide them with the fabric carry bag which they don't which is extra and which is a bit naughty really, jacks up the total price if you want one to protect it.
Great comparison vid, thank you. Managed to pick up a 27 set almost unused with a 500ml fuel bottle for £35 - well pleased. You have the best theme music ever! Old skool junglist? Safe mate :)
The most comprehensive comparison between the 25 and 27 Trangia series one cand find on the internet. It's like it's like a bachelor's thesis about Trangia.
I just got 27- 3 Series and it's by far the best. What I found is it's adaptive to other pots. If I'm going to cook for more than one person, instead of taking a heavier 25 series I'll just take an extra pot. I found that it adapts quite easily to my 1.5 L jetboil or my 1.5 L Primus Camp Lite pot by putting the clips in the fry pan setting. Both of these have much higher capacity with heat exchangers for faster boil times. The Primus is a heavy guage non-stick and I can fry with it all day long and is much lighter then carrying both cooker sets. It's my favorite set up.
Great combination with the pots, if you're planning on using the fry position a lot get an extra windshield it helps loads when the pot is above the upper windshield :) The folding ones are good and high enough.
Thanks for doing the vid. Just bought a 25-8 system. Weight is 1025g. The 27-8 weighs 825g, so only 200g difference. Insignificant difference in height of the packed systems, so it really comes down to diameter and weight. I'm using it primarily for motorcycle camping, so the added size and weight aren't really that big of a deal, and I felt the 25 system was more useful to do real cooking with.
I got the 25 Trangia.. specifically for "bugging IN" situations where there's no power. It's also great for Car Camping. I can see for a one person hiker that the smaller 27 model would be a good choice though. Both are excellent choices.. depending on your needs. Thanks for the side by side comparison.. most helpful.
After falling in love with the 27, I had to get the 25 (bigger is better right?) I’m definitely a Trangia fanboy. Whether I’m hiking 5 miles or 20, I have one of my Trangias with me.
Got myself an 80s Trangia 25 cook system for less than 30€. And I was finally able to get a 25 duossal pan for the normal stock price (they've been sold out since several months and easily need a month to be stocked up again). I realized how the old (robust) 25 pan seems to weight the same like the 25 duossal pan (did not check the weight, just my impression). I must say, I dig the design of the old cooking system more with its sturdy look, even if it weights more. And those old ones on the second hand market are often less covered with dents, than used UL systems imo. Mine has no defects like that at all. Just needed a good cleaning to shine again. I think the aluminium pots of the old set are fine for cooking, as long as it's not something acidic. But panwise I love me some salty and sour stuff, so I feel more confident with a duossal pan. The teflon version has 50/50 opinions. Some love it, but admit how fragile the coating is. Others dislike it because some experienced that the coating stuck to their i.e. meat. So in that case I rather take the risk with pure aluminium than teflon or go duossal (like I did) and consider some scrubbing after dinner, which is at least not harmful to the pan. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, mate! It really helped when I had no Trangia system at all! Cheers!
Thank you for the comparison! The larger number for the smaller set = runs the same way for wire! Just getting into this so very helpful as was the making of the meatballs!
Hi Paul. I just dug out the box for my 25-2 set. I think it is 1990s vintage, but can't find a date on there. The correct capacities are: 1.5 and 1.75 litre pots, 900ml kettle, and 22cm frying pan. Weight of 1290g. I too added the gas burner you recommended, which brings it up to about 1500g, with my home-made bag. The second number denotes whether it has a kettle in the kit (even numbers) and the surface finish. Plain ally, non-stick, or anodised. Keep 'em comin'. All the best.
For the 25, about two minutes with the gas burner/rocket engine, or 7-8 for the spirit burner. 500ml of tap temperature to rolling boil. Put the kettle on the flame as soon as it's lit. Don't wait for bloom, you're just wasting heat.
I would guess that the 25 would be quicker due to the surface area of the kettle. This being said it has to be the same amount in each kettle. The shallower the water and larger kettle base will heat quicker ;)
Wow, the 25 is huge! I had a 27 that I used years ago, but ended up selling it, I really wish I hadn’t! I am planning on getting a 27 for my wife, the size comparison was very helpful, thank you.
Great subject for a video! I’m pretty much a 25 guy. I’ve put a few kits together and I really like it. I like that one can fit both the gas burner and the alcohol burner inside the 25 tea kettle. Also the 25 is compatible with the gsi stainless steel tea kettle which compliments the Duossal pots nicely.
I have both size Trangia stoves in the review. I have noticed it is hard to find other pots which sit in or on those two stoves securely. MSR does make fairly thick Stainless steel pots with lids and a folding handle to hold the lid on, or for storage, or to hold the pot like a frying pan, and they offer a size which fits each Trangia stove. Ideal for tomato based foods or sauces. Thanks for all your efforts. I am learning a lot. - FARMERIK in USA
Have the three smaller MSR pots already, plus the “Incendiary Swedish Doorknob” alcohol burner, and a 1 liter fuel bottle. Just ordered the 600 ml. kettle…
Great video! Question, can the 25 fry pan nest under the 27 billy to have a larger frypan with the 27 and Billy? What is the size of the Trangia plate compared to the 25 frypan? Can they nest? I have everything for the 27 and I don’t have the 25 but I’m wanting a bit bigger frypan. Thanks
If you have the 27. And you only need to feed more than your self on occasion you can just buy the deep 25 frying pan it will fit on the 27 . Its only about 20 bucks.. you are right though i carry both in my truck camper and ilove the billy pots
Paul just got my 25 kit in Witj non stick pan an bowls . Do the bowls an pans last along time if used with soft utincels an oil.. I ordered a set of soft spoons ladle an tongs… didn’t come with chopping strainer but got that also.. now need to buy a good kettle that will sit in the 25
Nice to see you back out there Paul, it's funny they say both 27 pots are one litre. I seem to remember checking once (that's the kind of life I live!), and the inner one is only 800ml. Pedant? Me?
Yeah i know, when you cook in them you need good head room so practically they are even smaller for real use. I don't use my small pots all that often, i prefer the billy can.
Another great review Paul, can’t tell you how good it is to see you back.!! keep em coming mate and good luck to you, don’t forget if your ever in Essex call in for a cuppa & chat......Doug. (Doushal Kennels)
Nice one Paul. I bought the 25 system originally and ended up adding a 27 when I realised how big the other one was, far too big for solo use. I added the Billy to the 27 and now it’s, as you say, the perfect cook system. Wish there was a video like this back then as it would have saved me lots of money and some frustration trying to get a sense of scale for comparison.
That's why i own both systems ;) I thought the bigger number was the bigger size! I find it amazing that there isn't a video showing them together side by side.
i'm lucky enough to own a 25 and a 27, both with duossall pots and i love them and no, they are not for sale... like this guy in the video says the 27 is a personal stove, the 25 is a 2-3 person stove. when reading the specifications for both stoves you wouldn''t think there would be much of a difference but in-person, the 25 is much larger and also a lot heavier.
I got the 27ul earlier this year on the strength of your reviews and advice, haven't looked back, excellent bit of kit Paul. Got the triangle and mini too but i keep using my 27.Nice review again.Atb,Andy.
I have a alocs brand , hope I spelled correctly, my 16 billy can will d set in not tried my 120 oz bushpot in it but I believe it'll work too . Been thinking about getting the wind s reels and find a stainless pan for the 25 Trangia. To have a backup kit . Because ive already have a extra burner and Trangia style aochol stove . If it will accept a bigger pot . Otherwise the setup i have , cost under half the Trangia
What sort of activity are you going to be doing? Over nights, short hikes, long hikes, cycle touring, what sort of mileage? Lots of variables. Do you like to eat a lot? Will you be cooking for some one else as well? If high energy activities long days I would go for a 25 series, although larger, the new ones aren't that much heavier than the smaller ones. Plus it is easier cooking with a larger fry pan and indeed other pans.
I ended up going with the 25. After seeing the 2 together I thought the 27 was a bit small.. I use it manly at work to cook lunch or coffee it stays in my work ute so size or weight wasn't an issue..
I just purchased one awhile back. One thing I’d like to know is how heat resistant the aluminum is. Trangia says it is a higher grade aluminum but Generally they say aluminum can melt from open flame. One thing I’d really like to see a video of is somebody trying to start a small fire in the base / windscreen which is big for me because if you could use this with as a cook set and a personal fire pit this would be absolutely the perfect camp set
Thank you for the helpful info. I have a Trangia stove I bought about 15 years ago and coulnd't remember which version it was... Just measured mine to be 18cm so I guess that'll be the 27 :)
@@PaulBissekerBushcraft how about the pot stand and windshield from the 25 and the 27 kit inside that and the 25 pan on top so that i only got the pan for the 25 and no pots. Just pots for the 27 kit?
Hi Paul your videos are great. I hope you can answer a question for me. Is the pan for the camping set 24 the same pan for the Trangia 25 set? The Trangia website says that the 25 set pan is 220 mm whereas the camp set one is 200mm. I'm trying to figure out if the 25 series pan will sit atop the billy just the same. Thanks so much!!
A bit late to the party! Great review with a thought provoking take on 25 v 27 with the billy can aspect. Question if I may: would the 25 chopping board / strainer fit inside the 27 billy can? Also would the 25 frying pan nestle within the 27 billy can if the 27 frying pan was removed? I cook a lot of 'hot pan' and find my 27 too small, even for one... regards, Sean.
Hi Paul, another well explained comparison video thanks for sharing mate. Hey Paul, on one of your other cooking vids I noticed that you use plastic containers for your oil, spices etc. Any chance that you can let me know where I can purchase the ones like yours? Thanks again.atb. Steve.
Thank you for all your great videos. Just wondering what you know about the 25-23 2.0 D and the wrinkles on the stainless inner pot I've seen on my new pots and was described in a printout with my pots? Is it as common and a non issue like they make it sound on the duossal page or is Amazon selling us defective seconds from trangia? Thanks for your help
Thank you for this video. Very helpful! I wonder if they are compatible - as in: can you put the smaller pots in the bigger series windshield? I have a trangia and for now I am using a minimal setup with just the stove, a cross stand and aluminum foil. But for more cooking I want more comfort...
Thanks Paul for a brilliant video! I was thinking about doing the same, but with a couple of more trangias. Now i will feel like i copy You if i go along 😂. However there are differences in the kits so it could be interesting anyway. Great comparison!
Hi paul, great videos . I have just bought a trangia 25, I want to be able to put a proper nonstick frying pan on it but it slides around, so I am making something out of aluminium for the pan to sit on, should be done next week if the ally turns up. Not sure if I can post a picture of it on TH-cam though.
Got the 25 where I can buy once an the bushbox xl titanium.. best investments and a jet burner to put on the gas burner where I can cook 3 things at once if needed. I have 4 people in my family but can use it if by myself also
Hey Paul long time viewer, but first time commenting on your channel.Great reviews on the trangia system but was wondering if there a camp set to fit the 25.Will the campset 24 fit the 25? Regards from the eastern US
Hi Jack, thanks for the comment. Yes the 24 Camp set will fit in with the 25 series. The kettle is a 25 series as is the smaller pot. I'm afraid the billy pot does not fit the 25 series though. There is a billy pot for the 25 series, it's a 4.5 litre / 4.7 quarts pot. www.amazon.com/Trangia-Aluminum-Cook-Pot-Lid/dp/B000YKC36A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548499957&sr=8-1&keywords=trangia%2Bbilly%2Bpot&th=1&psc=1 I hope this helps.
Heyup Paul just wondering does the 25 pan fit onto the 27 stove, the pan holder implement on the 27 seems to have an extra platform to place a bigger pan?
I’ve had my Trangia 25 for nearly 30 years and has never let me down....brilliant kit
aint it for big for a single person?
@@andyn6053 Depends how much you want to eat. It also depends on what you're cooking, some things don't cook well when the pan is overcrowded.

I got a 1980 s 25 in a charity shop , mint condition for 3 quid , quite heavy as you say but built like a tank .
Great find ;)
Just ordered the 600 ml. kettle…
Great comparison Paul... No bs, straight to the point and tells it like it is. Love your videos, keep them up and regards from Dublin 🍀.
Fab.. just what I needed. Great video. So informative. Thanks!
Thanks
The 25 pans and fry pans don't go with any on the 27 stuff. You can use any pans but they don't nest together.
Thanks man. 27 it is. I thought it'd be better to get the larger 25 even though I'm only cooking for myself 99% of the time but perhaps not.
Your welcome. The billy can addition is a great upgrade also.
27 Billy Can th-cam.com/video/IRmfm0VnH88/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=PaulBissekerBushcraft
@@PaulBissekerBushcraft Cheers mate 👍
If you have the 27. And you only need to feed more than your self on occasion you can just buy the deep 25 frying pan it will fit on the 27 . Its only about 20 bucks.. you are right though i carry both in my truck camper and ilove the billy pots
Thanks for the info 😎
Paul just got my 25 kit in Witj non stick pan an bowls . Do the bowls an pans last along time if used with soft utincels an oil.. I ordered a set of soft spoons ladle an tongs… didn’t come with chopping strainer but got that also.. now need to buy a good kettle that will sit in the 25
If you are gentle with the pans they will last. Use oil and it will be good.
You certainly know your stuff ... a great video mate 👍.
Thanks 👍
Excellent video once again Paul and a very handy comparison. You've pretty much convinced me to get the 24 set to add the billy to my 27 set.
It makes the 27 series hard to beat with the billy and fry pan addition ;)
Hey. Can you cook with a 25 pot on the trangia 27? Simply for cooking purposes. Doesn't matter if they don't nest for packing
I would highly recommend the 27 Billy Pot. This will make the 27 the ultimate set. amzn.to/48zdx8w
Thank you Paul! Very useful video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Doug, I will call in when i'm in your neck of the woods ;)
As always, very informative. Cheers Paul. ATB
A very informative review. Thank you. Very well done.
i'm lucky enough to own a 25 and a 27, both with duossall pots and i love them and no, they are not for sale... like this guy in the video says the 27 is a personal stove, the 25 is a 2-3 person stove. when reading the specifications for both stoves you wouldn''t think there would be much of a difference but in-person, the 25 is much larger and also a lot heavier.
I have both of these and the mini, but i still watched your video! I think I’m broken!! 🤪
You're not broken you just love Trangia and cooking ;)
I got the 27ul earlier this year on the strength of your reviews and advice, haven't looked back, excellent bit of kit Paul. Got the triangle and mini too but i keep using my 27.Nice review again.Atb,Andy.
I think the 27 and triangle go hand in hand. While cooking on the 27 you can boil spuds, rice, pasta and make a brew on the triangle ;) Win WIn.
With you on that one Paul.
Love all your videos thanks an tell Peter hi ! Great channel man
Thanks! Will do!
Can you put any sort of pan on the trangia or literally just the one that comes with it?
any pan that is stable on the supports
Love these things. Sod ultralightweigh, eat well and more fun. Way more fun.
I think the 25 series pots differ in size. 1.5 L and larger 1.75 L for nesting.
Thanks
I'm in that exact position of buying my first and not knowing what to go. Was going to go the 25 but I now think the 27 will be fine... Cheers mate
I'm glad it helped you decide ;)
Craig English I agree Craig, if you don't have to carry it around the 25 is perfect 👍
I enjoyed your 25 27 trangia comparison review... I just got the 27 and will end up buying the 25. Thanks again, take care.
Your welcome ;)
This is a really great video I found it so useful and helped me a lot. thank you Paul.
you are a legend - brilliant review - thanks mate :-)
I try to help if i can ;)
I just purchased one awhile back.
Fantastic comparison video !! Subscribed
Thank you for the helpful info. I have a Trangia stove I bought about 15 years ago and coulnd't remember which version it was... Just measured mine to be 18cm so I guess that'll be the 27 :)
Can u put a cast iorn pan on top ?
Yes if it will balance
Can i fit the 27 inside the 25 in any way? If i maybe remove the small pot in the 25 and only have the large pot and then fit the 27 inside?
No I'm afraid it won't fit.
You can make a midi system using the large pot from 25 and frypan from 27 in combination like the mini 28.
@@PaulBissekerBushcraft how about the pot stand and windshield from the 25 and the 27 kit inside that and the 25 pan on top so that i only got the pan for the 25 and no pots. Just pots for the 27 kit?
I like that intro music a lot.
Thanks, my brother made it. soundcloud.com/peterbisseker
Really useful video. Thanks very much.
Glad it was helpful!
thank you for doing this helps alot, I think I'll go with the 27-6 UL, and a multi fuel burner, intended for motorcycle camping.
You're Welcome ;)
Thank you Sir. Great video.
Very welcome
Brilliant video thanks for showing us, I know now I need to buy the 27 series . Thanks 👍🍻🇬🇧
The Billy can is about 20cm The frypan 25 is I think 22cm The multidisn fits snug in the 25 pan
watched this and bought the 27 basic kit from milletts, great piece of kit thanks
Am working on getting a -27 set going. Just ordered the 600 ml kettle…
Hi Paul, another well explained comparison video thanks for sharing mate. Hey Paul, on one of your other cooking vids I noticed that you use plastic containers for your oil, spices etc. Any chance that you can let me know where I can purchase the ones like yours? Thanks again.atb. Steve.
The oil container is from Home Bargains. The little tubs with coloured lids are from Asda
Thanks for that Paul.👍
Thank you for all your great videos. Just wondering what you know about the 25-23 2.0 D and the wrinkles on the stainless inner pot I've seen on my new pots and was described in a printout with my pots? Is it as common and a non issue like they make it sound on the duossal page or is Amazon selling us defective seconds from trangia? Thanks for your help
I don't have any Duossal pots. I know what you mean tho. Im sorry i can't answer that.
Thank you, this was really clear and helpful.
For me it was the kettle that was the main difference . I love Trangia I have the 27 but had to get the bigger kettle in case I had company .
Thank you! This was a very helpful video.
Cool, the 25 is a great stove. It's always nice to make mods for your gear ;) I hope it turns up and turns out OK.
Great vid, told me just what i needed to know👍
Very helpful video. Thanks
Another great review. It's been quite a while. Pleas keep them coming Paul.
Got the 25 where I can buy once an the bushbox xl titanium.. best investments and a jet burner to put on the gas burner where I can cook 3 things at once if needed. I have 4 people in my family but can use it if by myself also
Thank you for the comparison. Great information.
Thanks Scott, have a great year outdoors ;)
I have the 25-2 series but not got the chopping board with it it was delivered today
Helped loads thanks mate 👍
Very helpful! Thank you.
You're welcome!
good wee edit this is dude very informative
Heyup Paul just wondering does the 25 pan fit onto the 27 stove, the pan holder implement on the 27 seems to have an extra platform to place a bigger pan?
does the 27 billy can fit inside the 25 cooking system
