  • I really like my TRANGIA cooking system and have always wanted to get the TRANGIA mini.
Well I finally bit the bullet and got one.

    👍👍👍 .. Super.
Hi there from a South African currently living in Switzerland ..
Yep .. a really nice piece of kit. My little 28 Mini gives me excellent service and is used at least weekly (it has to wait it's turn with my other cook kits .. most home-grown 😏).
Herewith some 'useless information' 🙄 .. I have enhanced my set as follows:
    * A small plastic Zip Tie, sized, cut to suit and turned inside out keeps the jaws of the Pot Grip together very nicely, making for easier storage into the pot and reducing the possibility of damage to the Lid Surface. Poor quality? It's made of SS and does the job well .. that's quality enough for me.
    * I've cut a piece of Silicon Kitchen Mat to fit inside the Lid. Additional, more robust protection for the non-stick surface and handy when cooking on potentially 'sensitive' surfaces.
I've used my Set 'everywhere' .. Forests, River Banks, Urban Parks / Recreational Areas, Outside Shopping Centres, etc, etc. A Carbon Cloth (Flammenshützmat) used as a base further puts inquisitive 'Swiss Granny' hearts at rest .. them now knowing that the 'Ausländer (foreigner) was not going to set the world on fire. The 'Swiss Grannies' .. arguably amongst the finest Surveillance Systems around .. ever watching .. they see (and report) everything 😁.
    * An 'Evernew' Aluminium Camping Bowl Set, bought back in the 70's (still visible on Google) .. the larger two of the three bowls, nest together with the Burner, Pot Stand and Pot Gripper inside the Aluminium Pot. A folding wire tripod made from SS Bicycle Spokes (to cater for the smaller camping bowl diameters) completes the Bowl occupancy.
    * The Evernew Set Lid sits underneath the Trangia Bowl .. all in a 'Sea King' cica 70's Cloth Bag.
    * And .. should I want additional cookware, the entire Doodah fits into a 'Quechua' One Litre SS Pot w Sealing Lid, purchased at Decathlon.
The above-mentioned gives me a pretty comprehensive albeit compact cookset that covers most needs.
Hope this is of assistance to others. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

      @@buckshot4428 No problemo 👍.
Some 'useless information' .. the Pot Gripper in the Mini Trangia 28T is made of stainless steel (with sharp edges) and as such care must be taken during storage in the set, that it doesn't inadvertently damage the pan non-stick surface.

A comment and greetings from Sweden :)
You have made a really informative and good film about T28. Looks really yummy too.
One thing I wanted to comment on is the Trangia webshop.
I have no connection to Trangia and am a completely independent writer and commentator.
Many products are sold out in the webshop, but the production is NOT discontinued.
Since 2019, Trangia has more than tripled its production, increasing its staff from 24 to 60 people. Three shifts in the factory. Trangia has doubled its press capacity.
After Russia's bloody war in Ukraine, many Swedes have also chosen to increase their own home preparedness. Normal order intake in the webshop was around 60 per day before the war, after the war the corresponding figures have been over 300 orders.
It should also be added that suppliers to Trangia had problems to deliver raw materials to the factory in the aftermath of Covid-19.
Trangia has become an extremely popular product and despite great expansion in the factory, it has had problems keeping up.
Trangia is a small company and is located in a small community with just under 300 inhabitants.

If you use a mix of 90% metho to 10% water, you will get no soot (the water boils and steam cleans the pot as you are cooking) and heat output doesn't suffer in the least (I've heard you can use up to 15% water, but haven't gone that far). A small windshield will also improve the stoves performance. I've had one for about 20 years and, while I've tried a lot of other lightweight stoves, I always go back to the T28.

Bought the T-28 (Mini) cook kit when it was first released several years ago in the USA 🇺🇸. I instantly fell in love with it and still use it regularly for day tripping. I also use it when kayaking and fishing for a full-on day. Also own the T-27 stormcooker with the additional kettle. Love that too. Both serve their respective places extremely well. For the last 2 days I've been organizing all my different cook kits (I collect them) so I had to visit your review! You did a DELIGHTFULLY GOOD JOB showcasing the Mini and it's features and abilities at being a full-on cook set.

I'm in Sweden and grew up with these. I have learned that keeping the burner clean helps with sooth on the pots, I scrub it with steel wool once in a long while. Also some dilute the meths with a little water. I don't, I use good quality meths. Having one extra simmer ring is helpful, they can be hard to adjust when hot.

Good stuff I picked me up one also since they have stopped. I couldn’t find one complete an wanted to get ahold of a new one.
But ended up had to find a new in bag/box pot for the 28 and a separate purchase of the windscreen and pan. And just managed to grab a pot/pan grabbed handle directly from trangia. Burners I already had.
So I pieced a new 28 together. Definitely a cool little kit. Shame they discontinued it.
Since I grabbed there limited edition 37-5 UL-BL
Basically a Trangia 27 just completely in all black. There’s also a 35-5UL/BL. Which is a completely black trangia 25. But they were out of stock on that one.
Also for anyone that has the 25 that sees this. There’s a new item for the Trangia 25 called a “sauté pan” it’s only for the 25. But it’s a taller sided nonstick pan for the 25. So instead of the 3/4” side on the original pan it’s more like 2” sides.
Kit still goes together as the original. But the windscreen is more tucked into the pan due to the higher sides.

It is such a great little kit. I use all of mine all the time. Sometimes I’ll just think of something to cook with the kids in the backyard.
I was wrong about them being discontinued. The factory had to expand due to massive demand from “situations” overseas and they had to put some lines on hold until they had enough room and extra machines to make them again.
If you go directly to the web site you can put your name down to be informed when products are available again.

the distance from the jets to the pan/pot also has a huge affect on soot too, and it should be about 1' to 1.2" or 2.5 to 3cm. Too close or too far will change at what height the fuel fully combusts thus producing soot. if you have a breeze then definitely have a wind screen. in terms of fuel, at least for the US, HEET in the yellow bottle works extremely well. you can get a 12oz bottle for $2 or a 12oz 4 pack for $7 at wally world.

@@AdamKilpatrick I have been in cold situation and the easiest way to warm up food in a tin is to put it under your clothing for a while. All the paraphernalia is a waste of energy. Sterilising water is the top priority for the use of fire. Then cooking raw meat and veg..
      Everything else is play camping

Well you can go and do it your way and I’ll go and have a warm fire and some gear to cook a nice meal then get a good comfortable night sleep while having a epic adventure. This video isn’t about tinned food it is about a great affordable option for people to use if THEY want to.

Did you really eat that sausage?
Don't eat such things? It has nothing to do with sausage or meat at all.
I wouldn't give this plastic to my dog.

@@AdamKilpatrick My friend. I didn't write it maliciously.
I haven't seen such a sausage before and I would be afraid to eat it.
There are no such sausages in my country.

@@AdamKilpatrick What horizons? I can tell the difference between meat and plastic. The bread at McDonald's is also not bread and tastes like paper.
What you in the USA, Australia or New Zealand call food would never be allowed for sale in Europe.
      Trust me - it's not a sausage.
