Yah it’s sad that she passed away. I was really looking forward to seeing if she would testify against tony or not. Would have been SOOOO much better then that “Jackie Jr” crap.
The key thing to remember is that The Sopranos was the first series to ever feature an anti-hero/villain as the main character. HBO didn't think that it would work, that audiences would reject it. It laid the groundwork for all modern TV programs with morally ambiguous protagonists.
I think they did that in the show Oz?! The story centred on a guy who is a lawyer and killed a little girl in a drunk driving charge and his time in prison. Main character is a bad guy whom a regular person can end up with a bad decision.
Same, chilling as fuck had so much anxiety in those last few minutes and when it finally ended my mind was blown. Don’t stop Believing was the perfect song for it
Season 4 and the Carmela and Tony marriage drama is so well done. It’s not normally something I enjoy but wow, Edie Falco was incredible during those scenes. She doesn’t get enough praise.
I think Eddie Falco got plenty of praise. To me it's not even close, she's easily the most talented actor on the show. Her character is unlikeable, but her acting is as top notch as it gets.
My ranking: 7. 6A- It started off really strong but kinda peters out. While the Vito arc didn’t have the weight it should have because we didn’t know much of anything about him before this season. Still, even my least favorite season of the best show ever is a really good season of TV. 6. Season 3- It’s a season made up of a lot of great moments. However, it doesn’t really come together to form something that feels unison and special. But it’s a solid transition season. 5. Season 4- Probably the most low-key yet soapy season. It just has so many great and underrated character moments. While if Carm is your favorite character (like she’s mine) it’s hard to not appreciate this. And ultimately, this is a show that might be about marriage before it’s about anything else. 4. Season 2- It took some rewatches for me to really see how well-conceived this season is. It has a couple of my least favorite episodes. But it’s still really well crafted. While the final two episodes are about as good of a one-two punch as any show has given. 3. Season 1- Because it’s the first season, it’s gonna have some creaky moments, trying to find its style and perspective. But it’s still a fantastic debut season, many with moments and episodes remaining some of the show’s very best. 2. Season 5- Probably the most overtly Shakespearian and tragic season of the show. It’s just thoroughly great. 1. Season 6B- What a consistently downbeat and suppressive final lap. But it came together almost perfectly. And that cut to black being the final image was a genius move. That could have been gimmick-y and a “copout”, but instead, it perfectly reflects what the show (especially season 6) had been building to thematically. This used to be one of my least favorite seasons. Now, I adore it the most, despite how draining it is. The Sopranos for me is still the best TV drama ever. From a characterization, acting, dialogue, theme standpoint, no other show has touched it. It had the balls to grow but also stay true to itself and continue to challenge the audience.
I agree with your ranking of the sixth season, 6A is pretty slow and hard to get though. But it’s a complete 180 when it comes to 6B. Upon rewatches it’s wild to me how dark and depressing it is. The performances are God tier also.
I go back and forth on whether 5 or 6b as my favourite but ultimately I think 6b is the most perfect season of the show, theres not single average let alone weak episode and it's the most thematically consistent as well, I also think it has Gandolfini's best performances in the whole show, especially the one-two punch of Kennedy and Heidi followed by the Second Coming
Good ranking. I would put season 3 at a better position though solely because of Ralph Cifferatto this season was like a loose cannon for him. He clearly had plot armour after Tracy's death but his own death was well earned in the following season. Gloria brings season 3 down a touch as she doesn't really add much imo. Caitlin was a more interesting character than her. I wish we did get more of Livia but it's a shame the actress died
I actually see 6A and 6B as two distinct seasons, and even Chase himself refers to it as Season 6 & 7. For one, Season 6A ends on a note of closure for Phil Leotardo whereas Season 7 sees him reflect on that decision and change his mind. There's enough time and change between "Kaisha" and "Soprano Home Movies" to easily separate the two storylines. As for the best season? I think it's clearly Season 3. The pivot towards darker, richer storylines instead of one-off semi-comedic affairs was a huge risk for the show, and it paid off in spades.
Yeah they only call it 6B because of the contracts -- Hollywood is legally only allowed to sign talent to 6 year contracts so they had to treat those 9 episodes as part of season 6 so they wouldn't have to negotiate new deals and pay way more than they were already paying for production along with backend stuff for the cast that they weren't able to get originally. But yeah, 3 is the best. The gimmick with Livia had played out but they were able to serendipitously hit on some great stuff there with Meadow and the moolinyan and then Jackie Jr and Ralph and the stripper and then Gloria and Pine Barrens. It really is the only season IMO that doesn't have an episode that feels like a miss and if you're doing a binge watch you think you can skip over to get to a better episode.
My only nitpick with this masterpiece of a show was how Melfi ended things so suddenly with Tony. God knows he’s long deserved to have her slams the door in his face but I just felt like Melfi would’ve already considered that possibility with Tony. I dunno maybe it’s just me but I’ve always wished they handled it differently lol
I agree. The idea that a professional psychologist wouldn’t consider that her sociopathic patient _might be_ manipulating her, and then to be so sure he is that she very unprofessionally handles their last session and the severance of their relationship, all because of the words of *one* envious colleague, is just ridiculous. I wish that was all handled better.
I understand not liking the Melfi ending, until you ponder it and try to come up with a better ending... and you simply can't. There's no good way to close out that relationship. The writing cheat would be if you killed her off in some way in the final season, which is probably how I would have written it and used that as some of the reason as to why Tony loses more control (killing Chris and what not), but I recognize it as a cheat because there's no good way to close out that character.
I didn't like the way Melfi's departure was handled, either, but I think it's kind of brilliant. This series did a lot of things that I disliked, but that was on purpose -- it frequently offed characters I didn't want to die, or had them do things that made me hate them, but that was the point. These characters are not nice people. So even Dr. Melfi, one of the only regular characters who has a solid moral compass, does something horrible by terminating her relationship with Tony right as his son is recovering from a suicide attempt in the hospital. Life very rarely ends with a complete arc the way TV shows do. People leave this Earth, and their lives are unresolved and leave complicated messes. That's life.
It's because she was being looked down upon by her colleagues and a paper that was written about such a client. She took it to heart and felt she had been had. It was really her peers opinion of it that got to her.
I think a lot of that is personal disgust that she ever convinced herself that she could change him. She threw away so much of her life, her self-respect, and her moral authority aiding and abetting a monster, and the only thing left to do was ensure she didn't waste a moment further.
I want to dislike Tony’s mom like you do, but I just can’t. Sometimes her bitterness and mutual annoyance with her kids is freaking hilarious, other times when she shows what a monster she can be, I find it very impactful. She reminds me a lot of my own mother in certain ways or things she says, and I think that’s why her storyline is probably the most interesting to me. You get an objective look at a dysfunctional mother/child relationship from the outside.
@@mtb5431 no kidding. Cluster B moms are rarely portrayed in media, and especially not as well as Ms. Nancy Marchand did. She wasn’t over the top and physically abusive. She was passive-aggressive, manipulative, and made cold and/or backhanded comments that got under your skin. Even though I personally can’t hate her character, it’s a bit cathartic that so many other people do lol. It proves how well-written she was for her short run.
Tony dies at the end. They keep cutting from a third person view and a first person view, the last cut from the third person view is to a black screen and the music stops, simulating death. It’s also foreshadowed in a conversation between Bobby and Tony earlier in the season.
I first got into the Sopranos during the quarantine in 2020 and just started a rewatch recently (hit season 3 yesterday) and yeah, it’s definitively one of the best series ever put to television. The juxtaposition of everyday life and involvement in the mafia intermingled with themes of mental health issues, wealth disparity, various inevitabilities, and the death of the American Dream all come together really well into a show you just want to binge the hell out of. Since I was watching on HBO Max my first time, when I hit the finale I genuinely thought there was another season after the cut to black. It’s a frustrating choice but an artistically valid and reasonable one so I can’t be mad at it, as confusing as it was at the time. As a nostalgia whore, I’d say seasons 1 and 2 are tied as the favorites for me. There’s just something about seeing these characters at their starting points, especially now knowing where they’ll end up. I just want every scene with a character that gets whacked later on to last forever, to spend as much time with them as possible. Season three is great, four did feel like a bit of a dip for me, then five and six kind of level out to an even keel in my opinion. All around, I think every season is a phenomenal exercise in character writing, plot structure, pacing, and development. Wish I could say the same about the new movie but I kinda got left disappointed by how little we actually get of Michael Gandolfini as Tony
I completely agree with everything you said. I think season 1 may be my favorite as well due to the reasons you stated along with its bold camera style but I think all of the seasons are basically perfect. I also loved the subdued supernatural/existential undertones along with the dream sequences of the show.
1. Season 5 2. Season 2 3. Season 3 4. Season 6 5. Season 4 6. Season 1 Not one bad season, but Season 5 has an extra boost because of Steve Buscemi and Long Term Parking. Season 1 is still great but I prefer the rest of the season just a bit more.
Season 5 also introduces Phil Leotardo, the plot of Vito, the dementia of Junior, Meadow finally growing up, the war between Jersey and New York, the end of Adriana...
Christopher is my favorite character in anything so it was so interesting to hear your point of view, and his death made me cry so hard we had to pause it. Anyways keep up the great work!
I liked the Christopher character, but I thought he was one of the most detestable characters of all time. Everything about him was horrible. Even Tony had redeeming qualities, but Chris had none. Even from a rooting for a bad guy perspective he sucked, because he was whiny and entitled. He second guessed everyone even as a newbie. He beat Adriana. You couldn't even respect him as a psychopath because he wanted glamour above all else.
I've been into The Sopranos for 15 years, it's my favorite show. I've always felt that season 5 was the best, and 3 the second best. I really love season 4 though. Great ranking!
Fans are dumb. The ending was excellent. People are so used to having everything wrapped up in a bow. That ending had people talking about what they thought happened afterwards like movies of the 70s used to do. And if you follow the clues you know what happens to Tony
@@cobracmr4 Damn. I happen to agree with Cody. Season 4 was the least interesting one. Only good thing about it was Ralphie getting killed. Oh well, agree to disagree lol
@@mikehunt4986 I get it. I just really love the melodrama of that season. I mean whitecaps is probably my 2nd favorite episode of the entire show alongside of Pine Barrens
@@mikehunt4986 "For All Debts, Public and Private", "The Weight", "Everybody Hurts", "Whoever Did This", "The Strong, Silent Type", "Eloise" and "Whitecaps" are some of the best episodes of The Sopranos. S4 also had some of the greatest, darkly comedic moments in the show: Ralph's Fat Joke saga, Artie's failed extortion attempt, Christopher's Intervention, Paulie Murdering an Old Lady and Tony Defeating Alan Sapinsly with Dean Martin. Don't understand how people rate this season so low, it's one of the best.
My ranking, in order: S1, S2, S3, S6B, S4, S6A, S5. The first two seasons feel completely different from Seasons 4-6, with Season 3 acting as the bridge to slowly transition into the show’s new style. But I personally think the first two are the best-the pacing, the style, the story lines are all 🔥. Been watching since I was 12 and have seen the show 9 times. Try to do a rewatch every year.
I recently discovered your channel. I really enjoy your in-depth breakdown of why you rank each season where you do. I agree with you on your pick for best and worst season, but I rank the others differently. 6. Season Four (the finale is an absolute knockout, but like you said, it's too soap operatic) 5. Season Three (a handful of standout episodes, but I didn't care for Jackie Jr.'s arc, and it took up way too much time) 4. Season Two (a retread of the first season, but still really solid) 3. Season One (fresh and exciting, introduces all the fascinating themes that the series would explore, and Livia is terrifying) 2. Season Six (bleak as hell, showing all the rotten fruit born of Tony's evil ways) 1. Season Five (the best of everything the show has to offer)
19:52 Im sorry man, how did you watch "Employee of the month" and not get that the entire point was that Melfi said "no" at the end😭😭. Even if you missed that, her not mentioning it is literally a resolution to that plot
Great video - with excellent analysis, honest criticism - and a very fresh take! I watched The Sopranos as each episode was aired live and it remains my favorite show of all time. ( I happen to be an Italian American who grew up in Howard Beach and now lives in New Jersey, so this definitely- and literally - hit close to home! Lol!) I have watched it through several times and it is one of those very rare series that gets BETTER with each viewing - and most people I know who have seen it feels the same way. Even if they are underwhelmed the first time - they see the greatness of it pretty easily next time around. If you look at what TV was before it - and see what it is like after it - you will see the absolutely incredible influence it had on Television in general. Besides featuring some of the very best acting ever seen on Television - or Film for that matter - The Sopranos really showed that TV could be every bit as exciting, artistic and as deep as any film could ever be. And I LOVE the ending! Sure - it’s certainly likely that Tony got killed there - but did anyone really want to see him shot in front of his family like that? I think Chase KNEW fans did not want to see that - so he purposely left it completely open for everyone to debate and discuss years later - just brilliant! My rankings 1. Season 2 2. Season 1 3. Season 6 4. Season 3 5. Season 5 6. Season 4
1. Season 6B 2. Season 4 3. Season 3 4. Season 6A 5. Season 2 6. Season 5 7. Season 1 Don't get the hate for 4, it has a lot of the greatest episodes and storylines of the entire series.
I understand why people don’t like AJ, but I love him! Why? Cause he’s SO real! I know a little shit just like him, and I thought it was a great and realist interpretation of the lost teenager that doesn’t know what to do with his life. And people can rave all they what about M. Gandolfini’s performance in the movie, I thought the kid who played Tony as a child was really Channelling AJ.
Everybody knows people who are pieces of shit. Obnoxious, annoying, itrritatig, lazy, entitled, whiny pieces of shit. Why you would want to see a character like that on a weekly TV show is mind-boggling. Those are the kinds of people I try my best to avoid in real life, and I'd rather not be subjected to them in fiction either.
We have basically the same order for sopranos. Be cool to see a 31 with the seasons of sopranoes, the wire, breaking bad, Dexter, game of thrones or banshee/justified.
I think the ending of this show is brilliant. I can understand why some would be disappointed with it, but I really appreciated it. Season 2 and 4 are up there for my favorite seasons. My favorite show ever next to Breaking Bad. Great video man!
I suggest you watch boardwalk empire. Sopranos was long my favorite show. But I love history and boardwalk is probably the most underrated unappreciated show of all time. Lots of actors from the sopranos appear.
For as much sopranos talk there is on TH-cam there really wasn't anyone of note doing a best of seasons. Good vid. Be cool to do a top 10 episodes video of this and other series
My ranking is 6. Season 5 5. Season 4 4. Season 1 3. Season 6 2. Season 3 1. Season 3 I’m very surprised that you put season 5 as the top. Most people I know think it’s the worst season, but like you’ve said, your thoughts will be different compared to those who’ve been long time fans. Either way, I still love season 5, and this show is still my favorite
I enjoy checking out show/season rankings for whatever reason and I've checked out the Soprano rankings on several occasions over the years and you are correct, Season 5 of the Sopranos is most commonly ranked last. What's so hilarious is, how much influence Cody's rankings have over the people in the comment section. Now every other person who gives their rankings in the comment section rank season 5 #1. Out of hundreds of rankings I've never witnessed anyone rank season 5 as the best and in this comment section their are nearly a dozen (more than half). This is all the proof you need to know that their are NPC's living among us.
@@dinglbarry1275 the most popular reviews for the show are Emily VanderWeffs from the AV Club and her favourite was season 5 so theres definitely sth you missed there
Highly recommend the wire if you haven’t watched it. Just based of your review of the sopranos I think you would like it better it’s pretty solid all the way through, best crime show of all time IMO.
I tried so hard to like the Wire, but it bored me to tears and I tried insanely hard to like that show. The funny thing is, I just saw a review of Cody's on something else and he said exactly what I just said. I don't understand why everyone loves that show so much.
Good review! I like the reasoning's behind most of it. I'm surprised by the #1 season though, which is fine and I appreciate Cody being original and not scowering the internet and adjusting his list accordingly. Over the years season 5 is most commonly ranked last or second to last if you were to average out every ranking on the internet ever done. Apparently Cody has a lot of influence because I'm checking out the comment section and now I'm seeing others rank season 5 #1 which aside from Cody I've never seen before. Overall the seasons of The Sopranos are so close that I don't have a strong opinion on the season rankings... it's a personal preference vs. perhaps a bad interpretation. Me personally, one of the reasons as to why I rank season 5 towards the back, is for one of the reasons that Cody gives for season 4 being his least favorite. I can't stand watching marital problems in shows. In season 4, it was only the final episode where they had marital problems, but in season 5 there's a lot more time dedicated to their marital problems and it's not until the end of the 8th episode when they reconcile. Either separate and be done or don't.
I am hardcore Sopranos fan (Probably much more then you are) but I have always thought that Season 5 was the best. Your other rankings and critiques I could argue with you on though. But otherwise I really enjoyed your video.
Wow Cody...I am definitely an OG fan, rewatched series more than 5 times, and I pretty much have the same season order. I can ALWAYS throw on season 2 or 3 and enjoy. Astute opinions as always my dude!
It would be awesome if you made a video about your top 10 best moments from the show, i would love to hear your more in depth views on some of the crazy stuff that happens, like ralphies death, chris drug intervention scene, bobby and chris death. The sopranos is my favorite show ever so obviously any more videos you might possibly do on the show i would love
I agree with you my friend I'm on season 5 right now and I think it's one of the best one awesome review and I appreciate a soprano ranking thank you Cody man take it easy brother
That intro lmfao. Just researched the series for the first time in years with my brother in law who had never seen it. This video is an instant click. Keep up the good work 🤘🏻🎃🫀🩸🤡🧟♂️🧛🏻💀
The man even said he had plans to kill off tony but decided against it even that should tell you if he was really wacked or not but other than that i feel like the ending could be interpreted to what the audience wants it to be, I'm one of those theorists that believe it was just a reminder anything could happen at any moment and that no mob boss is safe and that tony believes he's gonna be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life.
I can't even begin to rank this or any other show I love. I like all the seasons, good and bad. Same with all the other shows I love. Great ranking cody.✌
The Sopranos is one of the few TV series that I’ve seen every single episode. I honestly don’t have a favorite season but your list is pretty close to what I would’ve picked. I feel that people overrate the hell out of this show, the show basically steals the spirit and energy of Goodfellas, and made it into a TV series, just my opinion. But I will say this, Pine Barrens is one of the funniest TV episodes from a dramatic series ever
For me personally 1) Season 5 2) Season 2 3) Season 3 4) Season 1 5) Season 6 6) Season 4 (definitely the most soap opera ish season of the show) The one thing I will say is that Spoiler: the episode where Ralphie gets clipped is my imo the best episode of the show
1. The Sopranos Season 5 2. The Sopranos Season 6 3. The Sopranos Season 3 4. The Sopranos Season 1 5. The Sopranos Season 4 6. The Sopranos Season 2 I just recently finished the show. I really dug the show on the whole and I'm sure my Season Ranking is crazy
That's like saying there would be no Jurassic Park if it wasn't for Land of the Lost. If it wasn't for the silent film era we wouldn't have movies with sound. Whatever
@@AvocadoBawlz-Johnsonif you truly believe that, you haven’t watched both shows. Breaking bad and Better Call Saul are heavily inspired by a lot of decisions of the sopranos.
It seems like a lot of the gripes you have with the show stem from its realistic approach. It’s not a neat and tightly pulled together story. Which I can understand this to be frustrating for some but that’s what made me fall in love with it.
I hope at some point you can review all the seasons just like you did with Breaking Bad. I would love to hear a more in-depth thought on each season from you.
6: Season 1 (Unrankable/10) 5: Season 4 (Unrankable/10) 4: Season 3 (Unrankable/10) 3: Season 6 (Unrankable/10) 2: Season 5 (Unrankable/10) 1: Season 2 (Unrankable/10)
Personally my favorite drama series. None of the seasons are bad I like them pretty much in order. If you've never seen kill the Irish men check it out. Its a good lowkey mobb movie
I didn't watch in real time until the second half of season 6, although I was old enough even for season 1 in the late 90's. I watched and caught up on dvd and the replays on hbo of the first part of season 6 right before the 2nd half of season 6 aired. I didn't think I'd like it, even though my parents watched every sunday night. Well I was wrong, it's my favorite show of all time, and I wish I would've caught it real time.
I remember thinking season 4 was the worst…. When I was like 16 and it first aired. It’s not the best, but it’s top tier despite the lack of a consistent plot. The characters were fully fleshed out and we could watch them just sitting around doing nothing and somehow be entertained. Plus the Tony/Carmela break up was one of the best arcs of the show
I don’t understand why the ending is so misunderstood. The audience gets wacked. It’s a great choice for the end of this thing and probably the best thing about season 6
LMAO we have almost the sam list 1. Season 3 2. Season 5 3. Season 2 4. Season 6 5. Season 1 6. Season 4 All of them are great, so hard to pick between them. The Many Saints of Newark was decent but a bit of a let down and paled in comparison to the show.
Yea that Story line with Vito never would’ve happened in today’s society people would cry and complain but in real life there’s been several gay dudes who ended up getting clipped by the mob due to Homosexuality, Sammy the Bull had one killed actually
I love the fuck out of this show and it’s very difficult for me to rank the seasons because in my opinion all of the seasons were good not one bad episode and not one bad season in my opinion. This show was just flat out perfection. And one of the biggest influences in one of the biggest reasons why we have all the other great shows that came after it. I mean without the sopranos we wouldn’t have breaking bad. Which is we all know another great fucking masterpiece. Just think how bad ass it would be if we had a Sopranos and breaking bad crossover just imagine Walter White working with Tony soprano. I know we will never get that but just imagine how cool that would be. But yeah I can’t think of anything else to say that hasn’t already been said greatest television show on Earth and nothing will ever top it. James Gandolfini will forever be missed but the legacy that he left behind that is the Sopranos and the character that he played will live on forever.
I'm on season 3 now. I hated Lavia was so glad when she died. I hate AJ as well. Like despise him....I did not like Pussy's death in season 2. That was my buddy 😔😓 Ritchie's death brought me joy 😂😂😂 BET YOU WONT HIT NOBODY ELSE! Great review as usual!!!!
Wow. As much as I admire your videos and rankings, I can't believe how far off your favorites are from mine. Then again, I've been into the Sopranos since day one in 1999 and have rewatched the series probably over 30 times. I feel season 4 is very underrated with original and newbie Soprano fans. Yes, I agree, it is like watching a 10-episode soap opera and has the least number of kills in the series, and not as climatic, but that's why I liked it. We see more of the inner beings of these characters, and who they really are. Season 5....well.... has some of my favorite episodes but also has a lot of my least favorite. That being said my rankings are 1, 6part1, 2, 4, 3, 5, 6 part 2. Yes, I have to divide season 6 because the second half just seemed more like a season 7 and as much as I love 6 part1, I have a hard time putting part 2 along with it. Like better call Saul season 6 and breaking bad season 5 I understand not dividing because the part two series on both those shows start off from where part 1 end.
First I'd like to say I was born and raised in that area of New Jersey where Sopranos was filmed. I lived 20 minutes from Bada Bing. 30 minutes from the exterior of Tony's house as the inside was mostly sound stage. My ranking is as follows. 7-season 4, 6-season 6A, 5-season 6B, 4-season 5, 3-season 1, 2-season 2, and finally 1-season 3. I was around 10th grade give or take when season 3 debuted. I had never seen an episode up till that point. My mom was a nut with censorship of what was appropriate for kids my age to watch. But one day, my dad who was a monster fan of this show was watching through the series as he tends to do with things he was a fan of. And he's like hey if you want to sit down and watch, your mom isn't home. S3E5- Another Toothpick was my first episode. I was addicted immediately. I had struggles in school and depression myself. AJ and Meadows struggles, I identified with them. Also cause Jersey was my home my whole life up to that point. Seeing the surrounding areas including 1 of my local shopping malls which would appear in the show a handful of times. Sopranos has a massive nostalgia factor for me. Especially season 3.
I stood this series as one of the best when I first saw it years ago . Recent watch it's not for me . And your points and honest and brave and I appreciate that man. Made me lmao about AJ
I'll have to politely disagree. I'm not sure what my complete ranking would be, but to me seasons 1 and 2 are perfect. It's too bad the actress that played Tony's mom died. David Chase had a whole story planned out. It's cool that you gave Season 5 some love though. If I remember correctly that's when the fans on the internet started to whine about the show back in the day. Interesting to see the whole series from the point of view of someone watching it now, instead of watching it in real-time.
it's really important when viewing this show to understand that it is a dark comedy. Livia was a character that i hated on first viewing (as does everyone). on second viewing she became my favorite. the constant hell she brings upon tony, the dynamic of this powerful mob boss constantly being brought to his knees by his old feeble grandmother, is just too funny. even janice becomes enjoyable. i definitely love the sopranos. i started watching it the same year that it ended. i've watched the entire show multiple times, it's like going back home. the way you sometimes hate and sometimes love all the characters, there are not many shows able to do this.
Season 3 is my favorite season, season 5 is probably my second as well and underrated. The best episode is Pines but I also love Christopher's intervention. They nailed that scene.
Check out my review of The Many Saints of Newark: th-cam.com/video/ycKiPka6tgU/w-d-xo.html
A good chunk of Season 3 actually had to be rewritten after the death of Nancy Marchand. It was supposed to focus on Livia testifying against Tony.
I think the storyline of S3 between Tony and his mother would have been great
Thankfully, it didn't. The Tony-Livia dynamic was getting played out and I'm glad it wasn't the focus of the entire show.
Huh I was wondering why her death felt so sudden and jarring
Yah it’s sad that she passed away. I was really looking forward to seeing if she would testify against tony or not. Would have been SOOOO much better then that “Jackie Jr” crap.
@@generalnegative15hell no what we got was way better that shi with tony and his mother got dragged out 💀
The key thing to remember is that The Sopranos was the first series to ever feature an anti-hero/villain as the main character. HBO didn't think that it would work, that audiences would reject it. It laid the groundwork for all modern TV programs with morally ambiguous protagonists.
No aspect of TS is an anti-hero he is an evil protagnist.
I think they did that in the show Oz?! The story centred on a guy who is a lawyer and killed a little girl in a drunk driving charge and his time in prison. Main character is a bad guy whom a regular person can end up with a bad decision.

Facts
Is the best series finale of all time
Hated it when I saw it live at the time, but it’s come around for me as one of the best endings of all time. Brilliant show.
Doesn't get enough praise?? She won 3 Emmys for this show
Dude she won an Emmy. She got more than enough praise for her performance
Season 4 is fantastic for their epic fight alone. Easily a top 5 episode.
Season 4 is so overhated it’s so much better than season 3
I think the dream sequences are incredible.
Agreed
I do too but I also understand why some people don’t.
Boring
A lot of them were kinda pointless. There’s only a few of them that actually meant something
I hate them
My ranking:
7. 6A- It started off really strong but kinda peters out.
Watch peaky blinders
Going full time was the best thing for you. Pumping out great content like a boss. Keep it up cody
Absolutely love this show. Here's my ranking
1. Season 5
2. Season 6
3. Season 3
4. Season 4
5. Season 2
6. Season 1
My list is almost exactly the opposite which shows how versatile the show is lol.
I thought ending was perfect. Tony had his lights turned out. Pretty obvious
100%. Tony was shot, cut and dry if paying attention to detail in the last season especially last two episodes
I’d say season 2 is my favorite just because of the back and forth between Tony and Richie. Season 3 is a close second and then season 5
I agree that season 2 was superb but I also liked seasons 1 , 3 and 6
My only nitpick with this masterpiece of a show was how Melfi ended things so suddenly with Tony.
Christopher moltisanti is my favorite tv show character of all time, his arc is so perfect and depressing
It’s so sad the actress passed away after season 2. I would’ve loved to have seen everything David Chase had planned with her character.
When this guy said he didn’t like the scenes with Tony’s mom, my respect for Cody Leach as a man just fucking plummeted.
You have no idea how much I want to see a movie similar to what Thanksgiving is but about "cleaver"
Perfect intro lol, kickass shirt too brother!
Season 3 was supposed to be about his mother testifying against him but she died before they could film it.
I like how the movie finally gave us the origin story of Gabagool.
1. Season 5
2. Season 2
3. Season 3
4. Season 6
5. Season 4
6. Season 1
Not one bad season, but Season 5 has an extra boost because of Steve Buscemi and Long Term Parking.
Anything plot focusing on Christopher and Paulie together was gold.
@@mtb5431 yup
I liked the Christopher character, but I thought he was one of the most detestable characters of all time. Everything about him was horrible. Even Tony had redeeming qualities, but Chris had none. Even from a rooting for a bad guy perspective he sucked, because he was whiny and entitled. He second guessed everyone even as a newbie. He beat Adriana. You couldn't even respect him as a psychopath because he wanted glamour above all else.
@@dinglbarry1275he had plenty of redeemable qualities, like many of the characters
I've been into The Sopranos for 15 years, it's my favorite show. I've always felt that season 5 was the best, and 3 the second best. I really love season 4 though. Great ranking!
Pine Barrens is the best episode ever. Mix it with the relish
He killed 16 czechloslovakians, guy was an interior decorator
@@scottv9667 his house looked like shit
Anything that focused on both Paulie and Christopher was gold! They were the perfect odd couple 😂
Fans are dumb. The ending was excellent. People are so used to having everything wrapped up in a bow. That ending had people talking about what they thought happened afterwards like movies of the 70s used to do. And if you follow the clues you know what happens to Tony

6. Season Four (the finale is an absolute knockout, but like you said, it's too soap operatic)
5. Season Three (a handful of standout episodes, but I didn't care for Jackie Jr.'s arc, and it took up way too much time)
4. Season Two (a retread of the first season, but still really solid)
3. Season One (fresh and exciting, introduces all the fascinating themes that the series would explore, and Livia is terrifying)
2. Season Six (bleak as hell, showing all the rotten fruit born of Tony's evil ways)
1. Season Five (the best of everything the show has to offer)
Animal Blundetto and The Shah Of Iran are my two favourite characters on TV Series.
Damn I love the sub-plot with Steve Buscemi in the show.

Lol!)
I have watched it through several times and it is one of those very rare series that gets BETTER with each viewing - and most people I know who have seen it feels the same way.

I understand why people don’t like AJ, but I love him! Why? Cause he’s SO real!

Hot take, but I actually think Tony’s mom is one of the best characters on the show. I love each and every scene that she’s in
Yes I thought I was the only one she played the rolled so good but it not the best show imo it was kind of boring I watched it twice lol

Forgot to mention Vic Mackey, Don Draper, Etc.
Thanks for reviewing my favourite TV Series Cody!!
Nice vid! Hope you'll review all of Banshee's seasons at some point!

Imo season 1 is underrated. It's so great.
Are you serious? You can't rank seasons? Every season is just as good as any other season? What's wrong with you?
The Sopranos is one of the few TV series that I’ve seen every single episode. I honestly don’t have a favorite season but your list is pretty close to what I would’ve picked. I feel that people overrate the hell out of this show, the show basically steals the spirit and energy of Goodfellas, and made it into a TV series, just my opinion. But I will say this, Pine Barrens is one of the funniest TV episodes from a dramatic series ever
For me personally
1) Season 5
2) Season 2
3) Season 3
4) Season 1
5) Season 6
6) Season 4 (definitely the most soap opera ish season of the show) The one thing I will say is that Spoiler: the episode where Ralphie gets clipped is my imo the best episode of the show

Yea that Story line with Vito never would’ve happened in today’s society people would cry and complain but in real life there’s been several gay dudes who ended up getting clipped by the mob due to Homosexuality, Sammy the Bull had one killed actually
If there’s one thing the sopranos taught me is this…a pint of blood costs more than a gallon of gold.
Season 3 and season 5 are my favorites no doubt.

I'm the only one who loves season 4 the most I feel😂😂😂
I love season 4
@@yoauntcarsey let's goooo
No, it's one of the best seasons.
Season 4 is the best, I'm dumbfounded by those who don't like it.
1. Season 2
2. Season 5
3. Season 6
4. Season 3
5. Season 1
6. Season 4
The sopranos is no boy meets world. But still very good. I give it a tony having a panic attack out of a Tony banging a peg legged russian...
Season 4 was the worst. Felt like nothing changed despite tonys marriage by the end
Chris' intervention is season 4.
