well for some reason up until funhouse i didnt like season 1 for a bit idk why but the intro of episode 1 is the reasoning for that i also came late to the sopranos and just binge it. also i think modern culture created by the sopranos like shorts clips and videos were already interesting to me i was waiting for particular moments in the show not knowing it would only be seasons 5 to witness the 20 years in the can story line.
season 1 is like the best intro for when it released people needed a transition and could not be thrown into it so they maybe just build up to the real deal
It's context. If you had to lose one season of an amazing show, S1 would be the odd one out. When I rewatch the series, I stop watching the finale with 15 minutes left because it's a colossal waste of time.
I think part of the difference in tone between Season 1 and the subsequent seasons is that in Season 1 Tony is not yet the confirmed Boss of North Jersey. They say that "heavy is the head that wears the crown" and "it's lonely at the top", because Tony has not yet assumed that mantle, he still has the freedom to deal with other problems, and his friends are still his friends. Look at the season 1 finale in the restaurant where Paulie and Silvio are discussing Tony's seeing a shrink and becoming boss - at that point he's no longer simply their friend but THE BOSS.
the dialogue is probably some of the worst in season 1 too. You can tell the actors really did not come into the peak of their roles right off the start, It's just really corny in some parts, and at points feels like it's either trying too hard, or it's along the lines of.. who actually talks like that?... "A Hit Is a Hit" -- aka the episode with 'Massive Genius', Massive and his cronies eeeeasily have thee WORST dialogue in the entire show. But it's not just that episode, or them. There is plenty of rough lines from almost every character in that season.. but thankfully it really only lasted for maybe a little over half of the first season Where later on, the characters conversations and dialogue flows like fine wine. But this issue did not last long, because you can tell in the later half of S1 and most definitely by season 2 the characters pretty much seem to be as they are for the rest of the show.
Tony is in a coma for 2 episodes of 6A, not a "majority" of the season. 6A is the weakest largely because of the huge amount of time devoted to Vito's New England Adventures. It wouldn't be quite as bad if they had chosen someone who can actually act to become a sudden main character, but his performance along with the cliche storyline dragged down the whole season.
"I love you Johnny Cakes" was the low point of the whole series. Tony's coma was actually only 1.5 episodes. That really pissed me off when he said 'most the season', like wtf?
I absolutely love season 1. The dynamic with Boss Junior and Mike Palmice was amazing to me. Also imo the Tony and Livia relationship was absolutely critical to everything. IT's so hard to chose a "worst season". I'd might have to come down to 5 by default, especially because my least favorite episode has to be Unidentified Black Males. However, I love the Little Carmine vs. Johnny story and thought Rusty Milio was the coolest mobster character since Mikey Palmice. Also, All Due Respect is one of my favorite season finales with how deep we get into Tony's mind.
yeah by saying 1 is the worst its missing out on the biggest season for junior. after 1 he never really bounces back... and i love me some junior. based on that it can't be 1
Season 5 lacked identity and the main story of tensions between Jersey / New York families was paced slowly. I still think Tony Blundetto was a great character even though it was introduced without any mentions in the earlier seasons.
I never understand why so many people complain about Blundetto "not having being mentioned before" when the same is true for other characters that nobody says anything about. Ralph just appears out of nowhere in s3 as an active member of the crew without anything resembling a setup, Richie appears in s2 without having being mentioned in s1 which prominently featured his dying brother. At least with Blundetto they set him up in episode 1 with the news report, before he's introduced in episode 2.
@abdelrahimmohammed1814 The later seasons are very depressing that reflects a life of crime though at first it seems attractive but it gets darker and grimmer as time goes on
@@dejected247I think they just mean there’s a lot more levity in season one compared to later seasons which are more dry and miserable as everything comes crashing down around Tony and the Soprano crew.
@@australian2I think also comes down to the time the show was shot too. And I agree about the writing part. The sunny late 90s in season 1 to the cold post 9/11 world in season 6 show a big contrast.
The final season. Especially 6B when everything is falling apart. And I’ve never hated a tv kid more than AJ Soprano. All his screen time in season six seals it for me.
It really all just comes down to personal preference. Season 1 was actually my favorite, but that’s probably because it showed the crew engaged in more traditional mobster activity we’ve seen in other media and had a lot more levity than other seasons. Whereas I understand the value of season 5 or 6A, but they’re so unrelentingly bleak and you can feel it’s all downhill from there that one of those is likely my least favorite.
Season one was the worst season, but the word “worst” is a bit of a misnomer. It’s better said as the “least best”. Because Sopranos is like pizza…even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.
No, no season is worst. Some are better than others, but every season has enough great episodes to be phenomenal. There are bad episodes, as the ones you name as well as "Chasing It," and "D-Girl." Any episode that takes us out of the Sopranos world, or that tries to stand alone, is a mistake. Much like the movie Many Saints of Newark, the story has to stay true to canon.
those episodes you mentioned are great, because they have a lot of character development, you just take some time to appreciate them. I grew up to love "Chasing It", as it shows the worst side of Tony Soprano, a gambling addict who can´t quit, and it really makes you hate Tony
Absolutely agree about the need to stay in the Sopranos world. I thought the weakest episodes in the series were the ones that tried to tie in Hollywood: D-Girl, Luxury Lounge, the Cleaver storyline, the JT Dolan storyline. It's funny and probably self-deprecating for Chase to make a screenwriter the biggest loser on the show and to mock know-nothing producers in the Cleaver production meeting, but it's too big a stretch, trying to the worlds together.
It’s season 4 for me. The Ralph storyline and the whitecaps debacle are the only redeeming points for me. Maybe I just like 1-3 so much, that 4 looks bad in comparison. I also never got the impression that Melfi was just starting out as a therapist in season 1. She’s presumably around 40 in season 1. It doesn’t really make sense that she’d JUST be finishing residency and only just starting out. If anything, she could be newly going into private practice, but there’s really no information in season 1 that would lead to that conclusion at all.
Yeah I agree with you on Melfi. I also find it hard to believe that Tony would be willing to work with a newly qualified therapist. If he was going to do it he'd pay extra to get someone with experience.
That animal Blundetto, I can't even say his name, is my fav addition to S5. Such a great character, believing he wanted to get out of that life but, in the end, he wanted it back with all the perks and liberties of a criminal
The reason people don't like the 6th season first episodes, is simply this, most people watch these movies just cuz they like the typical gangster shit, with people getting shot, but anybody that really appreciates a deep delve into the human mind, and the American way, will pay heed to the show, because David Chase doesn't pull any punches
S1 was great, after the pilot which was a little bit rough. Now, I haven't watched a full run through in 15 years but the listed flaws in S1 are essentially the main things I remember liking.
exactly. i feel like season one being a bit more silly and less passive story lines gave more time for us to learn the characters and how they reacted to general mob related stuff (hijackings, taking disrespect, etc). even their style of clothes in season one matched their initial character. without season 1, i feel it’s impossible to understand the characters and what principles they stand on or what codes they live by
I just finished the show for the first time and I gotta say it's one of the best for sure. However, I watched shows like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Band of Brothers, Pantheon (which is super underrated), Arcane, Beef, Mr. Robot, and Fargo. I have yet to see The Wire.
The defining moment of season one and the whole series for that matter is the College episode where Tony becomes our first true television anti-hero by strangling an old friend, season one was one of the best in my opinion!
Favorite season is 5. Most won't agree but my least favorite is 3. Just felt like the least happens in that season and the plot lines dont wrap up until season 4
I really liked the Little Carmine vs. Johnny conflict in Season 5. Rusty Millio is an underated character imo. But I also feel like season 3 is a banger with standalone stories like a A Hit is A Hit, and I felt like He is Risen - Amour Fou is the tightest progression of episodes we see other than maybe Season 6B. I do agree that Season 3 isn't the best, though! I think I definitely prefer season 4 now that I've watched the show more.
Interesting take. Season 1 finding itself was mostly jarring when comparing the pilot to the rest of the season. The minor things like Geno being Vito are quite forgiveable in my opinion. S1 is light hearted and lays the groundwork for so much of the show. I would say season 3 is the weakest. Again, it's forgiveable because the actress who played Livia sadly passed away which forced the writers to pivot into unplanned territory. S3 focusing on Livia's fake demented testimony against her son would have possibly been the best season instead of my least favourite. Nice Video
Season 5 without a doubt is the worst. Steve Buscemi (while being a great actor) just didn’t work on the show. I hated his character and it ruined the season.
Season 5 finale is what makes that whole season. Blundetto’s involvement all of the sudden is confusing, but the final episode in the season is so gripping, imo making it worth watching it all the way so you can truly absorb the power of the last episode. My jaw dropped when they showed us who took care of That Animal
I agree that if you had to pick a worst season it would be season 1. David Chase said they didn’t know if they would get picked up for a second season. That may be why it looks different from the rest of seasons.
Season 1 and 2 were the best in my opinion. They were authentic like no other show or movie about mafia I've seen. The characters like Mikey Palmice, Richie Aprile and Junior Soprano (when he still had some kind of power) were never merely replaced in the later seasons. After season 2 the show went downward. I felt bad for Junior in the first place for being put in house arrest that early in the series, with limited power. And he was sharp as a fackin cue ball. They were doing bussines back then, actually. Extortion, gambling construction, unions, hijacking etc. Back then It went into details , they would carry about corpses. They would cut them out, even mill them. Later, as the series went further, the murders were done with carelessly leaving evidence all around. The murders started to be to cinematic (JT Dolan, Doc Santoro, Gery Torciano for example). In the last season i felt like they were no mafia anymore. No more doing street bussines. Now they make movies. The later seasons were OK. But I think they lost themselves. They lost their authenticity thay had in the first seasons.
@@Devin0835 It would go downhill anyway, in my opinion. Maybe If Livia lived longer, we would have probably seen a different version of Tony, and that's it. If I would watch the first season and go straight to the 6. season, It feels to me like I've been watching 2 different shows. It's not just the story, It is the whole atmosphere and acting in the first seasons. So many scenes were epic. Just the sitdown with Junior and Hesh for example.I'm not saying that the later seasons were that bad, but I don't remember a lot of scenes to be considered as epic in the later seasons. Maybe it is only a thing about feeling. Like many consider the story Many Saints of Newark reliable to the Sopranos, which actually is prequel to the show. I feel that Many Saints of Newark doesn't have anything to do with the Sopranos,
@@markomaric2056you guys are all on crack cocaine. The lot of you guys. The sopranos is the one show with sons of anarchy that genuinely just get better season with season. Season 2 is better than 1, 3 bettee than2, etc. y'all gotta rewatch the show again man
I can understand this! I feel like I appreciated 4 more this time around given how much character work it did for Tony, Ralphie, Artie, and others. But it's certainly more of a series of character studies as opposed to plot progression.
100% agree. Seasons 5 is my favorite by the way due to fantastic storylines: mob war in New York and Adriana’s downfall. Meadow’s relationship with Finn felt weird, but the divorce angle is actually quite captivating and well written. Tony B and Feech feel a bit out of place, but both of them served their purpose well: showing how Tony became a better mobster than ever before and started to completely deteriorate as a human being (the second part reaching its climax in season 6 of course). And Robert Loggia carried Feech really well through the few episodes he was in. Oh, and I am a fan of dream sequences so episode 11 is one of the very best in my book.
A Hit is a Hit was one of the better episodes imo. Exploring the historical aspect of studio moguls like Hesh taking advantage of African American artists was a great piece of writing.
One comment Chris made always stuck with me when he calls going to a psychiatrist being a mental midget or mentally weak. While he in no way considers his addictions a weakness or problem.
Agreed, but I think it's more to do with the strength of the other seasons. Season 1 is still brilliant and has what I consider the most underrated episode of The Sopranos (Nobody Knows Anything) but overall it just lacks that little bit of overarching cohesion present in other seasons with a bit more focus on stand alone episodes, to be entirely expected with a show finding its feet.
I took a hiatus my 1st run through as season 4 progressed because I knew Adriana was going to get whacked and she was one of the more sympathetic characters in the show. It was painful to watch the feds make her suffer.
6th season is the worst hands down. aj is intolerable, gandolfini phones in some episodes, the episodes when he’s shot are an endless slog, i love you johnny cakes, and phil leotarda is an annoying bore.
The fact that season 1 is obviously the worst says a lot about how good the show is as a whole. It's a great season, just a little awkward at the very start when they were leaning on goodfellas a little bit too much.
I agree that all seasons are strong, but if I had to pick one, I think that Season 6A is the weakest and biggest departure from the vibe of the rest of the series.
The weakest season has to be 6A for me. Yes, it starts out very strong (even the weakest Sopranos material is still very good), but after Tony exits his coma, it meanders and drags a bit. The 12 episodes probably could've been condensed down to 9 or so. More importantly, 6B, which came right after, is probably the Sopranos' best run of episodes. All killer, no filler. In comparison, 6A is a bit flabby. P.S. I don't get the S1 hate. There were kinks that needed ironing out, but that's the case for most shows. I also enjoyed the lighter tone of the early seasons quite a bit.
Of the top of my head, I’d probably have to pick the first half of Season 6 (if you consider it a season in if it’s self). I barley remember what happens beside Tony getting shot, one too many Tony dream episodes, Eugene/Rays death, and the Vito situation.
Great job I agree with you on this whole video. Iam a huge soprano fan. I thought the acting got better and better as the show went on. I wasn’t a huge fan of the later seasons in the beginning but now I tend to like them the most now the writing is very deep and dark and acting is absolutely amazing.
I love Season 2 as well. I think Season 5 is excellent but I think it needed some humour to balance a very dark season. With Junior confined to a facility with dementia I missed his wit.
These people in the comments don’t understand why later seasons are better than the first. I totally agree with you on this take. I love every single season, but the first is definitely the one season that is completely different. My rankings: 1. Season 2 2. Season 3 3. Season 6 part b 4. Season 5 5. Season 6 part a 6. Season 1
He is not in a coma for a majority of the season. He's not even in a coma for half of the 1st half of season 6. 2 episodes out of 12 in part 1. 2 episodes out of 21 in total. And he comes out of it before episode 3 Mayham even ends. 2 episodes (1/6th of part 1 & 1/10.5 in total). How the hell is that even remotely a "majority of the season"?
Id say season 5. Love Steve Buscemi, but more details needed to be revealed about the relationship between Tony and Tony B. As well as Christopher and Tony B. The end for Tony B leaves a lot unsaid. I think thats what hurt the character. You can see theres animosity, but never gets explained in depth. Tonys guilt about missing the heist and subsequent arrest gets more attention but Tony B's side just kinda is left in thin air as to his true feelings. His actions seem eratic without explanation to why. What logic was his mind operating under. Thats not clear. More was needed with all the paroled guys to make their characters more understandable, but especially Tony B. That was a missed opportunity IMO.
Season 6 Part I is the worst season by far. It starts off great with the first six episodes but quickly goes downhill with that silly episode about Benny and Artie going to war, AJ trying to kill uncle Junior while trying to impress his friends at the club and the season finale, 'Kaisha', where literally NOTHING interesting happens. Phil Leotardo has a heart attack. Big deal. It ends with everyone together on Christmas eve. I'm sorry, is this a Hallmark series or a crime drama. It also scored the lowest number of Emmy nominations of any season.
i'd rank the seasons from worst to best... 5,1,6,2,3,4... kind of a toss up between 3 and 4 for me, i love both of those. season 2 is great, and so is season 6. season 1 is good but the show got way better after it, and season 5 is decent, but it was nowhere as good as 2,3,and 4 in my opinion
I agree that while there wasn't a "bad" season of The Sopranos, season one was probably the weakest. You can tell the series was still in the process of trying to figure itself out, & had more of a episodic sitcom-ish, feel. Unpopular opinion here but I also was never a fan of the Levia character and the Tony's "mommy issues" relationship with her. I was glad when that was over. Overall still a pretty good first season.
I don't like the Goodfellas/ Bronx Tale/ Godfather-ish replica that dominates the first few episodes of the first season. However, there's a certain 90's charm it brings thats nostalgic and pretty beautiful.
I always thought Season 6 was terrible, followed by Season 1. A lot of shows don't really hit their stride until their second season. The first season is usually getting out the kinks, establishing tone, etc. Season 4 was just...astonishing. An absolute masterpiece.
Season 6 for me. Some very good episodes but a lot of disconnected and disjointed storytelling, huge jumps in time... made it a far less enjoyable season for me.
Season 6 was the worst imo. The over the top hits, johnny cakes, etc. Season 1 has some of the best writing and one of the best episdoes which is College. Season 2 is my personal favorite.
Noob pundits will say the first season is the worst while the worst season is actually the last. The first 3 seasons are all equally the best and IMO the shows gets less charming after Ralph's departure and continues to get more bleak and less fun to watch with each passing season ..and A Hit Is A Hit is a classic, people who think that episode sucks don't know what they're talking about
You and I agree on everything. A hit is a hit is amazing. Shows how well written the show is that it can be just as entertaining while growing characters aside from Tony. Also the first 3 season are the most entertaining without a doubt. Season 5 is also strong. I like the change, watching the show grow darker. You could feel the end coming from as the plot moved forward. At the end of the day I love all 6 seasons and each season has something to offer
@@Spooky_515 Totally! I just watched A Hit Is A Hit yesterday, it’s a great episode. Tons of witty dialogue & humor. I really don’t understand all the negative criticism, it’s one of the funniest episodes.. and the Defiler song is catchy AF lol it’s interesting that the episodes that don’t really focus on Tony are usually humorous
If you think S1 is the worst you’re forgetting how much of a force it was at the time, everyone loved it and it’s still one of my favourites ❤ I always resented S6b or whatever for taking so long to come out and being disappointing can’t stand AJs storyline and seeing my favs killed. I feel like most prestige tv shows really start to cook at the 3rd and 4th seasons 😊
I can't really pick a least favorite season but I can list the arcs that didn't quite work for me. -Vito's adventures in Vermont -Carmela and Furio's amor fou -Tony B -Anything with Chris and Hollywood -Season 5 AJ -Ralph as the season four antagonist
Season 1 is one of my absolute favorites. If I had to choose my absolute least favorite season, easily season 3. To me, it was a diet version of season 2 because of how similar Ralph Cifaretto and Jackie Jr were to Richie Aprile and those 2 goons Chris trained. I didnt care for the Meadow subplot either. It was really boring. The seasons that came afterwards, even with their problems, were able to have stuff to entice me to. Season 3 made me not watch the show for a while. Season 6A is also a contender for worst season because it got too pretenious with the themes of death. I rather wish it primarily focused on Tony's attempt and failure to reform himself and Chris's falling out with Tony than say have the Vito subplot.
Correction: After watching this and remembering the whole coma plot and how it took up basically all of Season 6A, I say Season 6A is the worst with Season 7/Season 6B just behind it.
Just the fact that episodes like Christopher, A Hit is a Hit, D-Girl or Chasing It are considered among the worst goes to show you how unbelievable this show is. For most other shows that level of quality in storytelling is just unreachable.
Bro the worst technical mistake ever (even worse than CGI Livia) was when Charmaine and Artie are outside and they did a voiceover for Charmaine. Holy cow was that the worst editing I think I’ve ever seen. I think that was the pedo soccer coach episode if I’m not mistaken.
I feel season 2 ... I felt it had a lot of great moments and actually moved it forward to set it up, into it's best content. Buuuuuut, I thought it was kind of cliche and a sort of didn't know what it wanted to do at first.. (I think season 3 is where it found itself from then on)
@@erickennedy8534yeah. Season 2 is fantastic. Richie getting whacked and and episode after that was puss getting clipped, was thee equivalent to the battle of the bastards and Cersei blowing up the sept in back to back episodes for me. Lol
“Christopher” was the worst episode aside from “The Test Dream” . Both of those episodes felt like they were just there as a fill in until a better one was released.
I wanna say Season 2 is the worst because it drags on too long to get to the big payoff (Puss getting whacked). However, "Funhouse" is one of the most iconic episodes. Which is why I could understand if fans would not vote for S2. Still, that's my vote. And here's my thoughts on the other seasons because why not (he says!) I love Season 1. "Boca" being the funniest episode of the season. Then you got the attempt on Tony's life. And the payback against Mikey and Chucky. Great stuff. Season 3 has my personal favorite episode of "University". Not to mention "Pine Barrens" and "Amour Fou". Gloria being my favorite of Tony's goomars. Season 4 is just too damn good. I felt Season 5 and 6A/B are strong. With the drama between NY/NJ kicking off, and the war, and the conclusion. No way any of those are the worst.
Season 1 is so good tho. I do get there’s a lot of scenes that feel weird or more amateur compared to the rest of the show, but I think everything they get into in that season is enough to be ok with some of the other things. Tony’s relationship with mom is so intriguing. At first it seems like just one of the things Tony has to deal with, but soon you realize his mom troubles bleed into all his other troubles. It’s such an important part of Tony’s character too. Also idk how you can say the last episode of season 1 is the best when that season has the episode where Tony gets shot and imagines the next door girl that ends up being a representation of the loving mother he never had but always wanted. Not only the best episode in the season, but one of the best in the whole series
@@rullvardi That's absolutely correct, it comes down to preference. For me it spent a little too much screen time later on in an attempt to delve into existentialism and hammer home the nature of the protagonist. We get it. Tony is evil. Tony is going to hell. I mean how many episodes do we need on that?
I may agree with Season 1 by default for the reasons mentioned- that it was still finding itself. It's not a critique of Season 1 but more so praise of how great the series would become. Seasons 2 - 4 are all incredible. Maybe an episode here or there that don't land as hard but that's the pinnacle. Richie and Ralphie are both so good. I mean, they're the worst! But, they're so good haha. Season 5 I always though started strong, meanders for a few episodes in the middle, and then maybe has the best 4-5 episode finish of any season. 6A still very good but might be second "worst" by default. Sure, Tony's in the coma for a few episodes and then recovering from it for a few more. But you get some great stuff with him (and also Johnny Sack) trying to hold onto control. When he beats up Muscles Marinara just to prove he "can" and then proceeds to go to the bathroom to throw up, that's phenomenal haha. Then of course, the Vito storyline is nobody's favorite. Too much screentime for a character who's been around for a while but we never really cared about. 6B is a sprint to the end. It's frustrating and hard to watch at times. But from Sopranos Home Movies to Made in America, the show sticks the landing so hard. Ok. Time for my 10th rewatch haha.
What do you think is the worst season of The Sopranos? Let me know down below 👇🏻

Trick question. They’re all equally incredible.

There is plenty of rough lines from almost every character in that season.. but thankfully it really only lasted for maybe a little over half of the first season
Where later on, the characters conversations and dialogue flows like fine wine. But this issue did not last long, because you can tell in the later half of S1 and most definitely by season 2 the characters pretty much seem to be as they are for the rest of the show.
The first season was almost like a pilot. Was shot way before season 2. Look how different Meadow looks.
Tony's New Jersey accent isn't that thick in the first season either
Tony is in a coma for 2 episodes of 6A, not a "majority" of the season. 6A is the weakest largely because of the huge amount of time devoted to Vito's New England Adventures. It wouldn't be quite as bad if they had chosen someone who can actually act to become a sudden main character, but his performance along with the cliche storyline dragged down the whole season.
Yeah. One episode as the B storyline would have been enough. It just kept going and going and going.
Yeah Vito's storyline could have been resolved in half the time.
I just binged the show for the first time and literally fast forwarded that arc lol
"I love you Johnny Cakes" was the low point of the whole series.
Tony's coma was actually only 1.5 episodes. That really pissed me off when he said 'most the season', like wtf?
Tony was only in a coma for like 3 out of 21 episodes lol.
2 episodes 😂
I'll tell you one thing and I'm not ashamed to say it, my estimation of Soprano Theories as a channel just fucking plummeted.
Hi Borko 😂
Come on.. When it comes to theory channels, all bets are off.
Cut the guy some slack, it's Borko's social media channel's wedding for Crissake's..
Agreed
His coach turned into a pumpkin
Saying season 1 is the worst season is actually a good thing. It shows that the writing of the show got better as it went on
You're out of your mind if you think season 1 is the worst
Right... The worst fucking episode of The Sopranos is better than any thing else producers have offered viewers
At least tell us what YOU think the worst season is
Season one was the absolute worst
I skip season 1 every time I do a rewatch
It's iconic but imo the show was still finding itself
Sorry Series 1 & 2 are perfection.
I really love them. The show lost a lot once Nancy Marchand passed away.
ABSOLUTELY
I absolutely love season 1. The dynamic with Boss Junior and Mike Palmice was amazing to me. Also imo the Tony and Livia relationship was absolutely critical to everything. IT's so hard to chose a "worst season". I'd might have to come down to 5 by default, especially because my least favorite episode has to be Unidentified Black Males. However, I love the Little Carmine vs. Johnny story and thought Rusty Milio was the coolest mobster character since Mikey Palmice. Also, All Due Respect is one of my favorite season finales with how deep we get into Tony's mind.
yeah by saying 1 is the worst its missing out on the biggest season for junior. after 1 he never really bounces back... and i love me some junior. based on that it can't be 1
Season 1 is one of the best…..if anything season 3 is the worst but the worst episode of sopranos is like the best episode of almost any other show
Season 5 lacked identity and the main story of tensions between Jersey / New York families was paced slowly.
5 was awesome! Without the storyline in 5, you couldn't have the amazing season 6B.
To me Tony B was a dry character and didn't do that much he lacked a lot of cadence and season 5 was just not as good as the rest
Season 5 is just miserable to watch quite honestly, regardless of how many comedic moments there are in the season. It’s hard for me to watch
@abdelrahimmohammed1814 The later seasons are very depressing that reflects a life of crime though at first it seems attractive but it gets darker and grimmer as time goes on
The Soprano’s seasons from 1 - 6 is a metaphor for life and depression. Sunny and quirky in season 1 to black and bleak season 6.
Source? Nothing screams sunny like having panic attacks that your family will abandon you.
@@dejected247I think they just mean there’s a lot more levity in season one compared to later seasons which are more dry and miserable as everything comes crashing down around Tony and the Soprano crew.
@@slimkt lighting, cinematography, writing. It all gradually changes as seasons progress. In a negative way…
@@australian2I think also comes down to the time the show was shot too. And I agree about the writing part. The sunny late 90s in season 1 to the cold post 9/11 world in season 6 show a big contrast.
Ugh! So true. By the beginning of 6 I was done. Tony disgusted me.
The final season. Especially 6B when everything is falling apart. And I’ve never hated a tv kid more than AJ Soprano. All his screen time in season six seals it for me.
I hated that kid. Although all the series.
It's very bleak but the prominent role played by the legend Phil Leotardo elevates it a lot.
Pine Barrens is a fan favorite episode. It’s a stand alone.
u call “chasing it” and “D-girl” bad? i feel like they help build CRUCIAL parts of chris and tony’s character
Some real diplomatic shit rite chere
It’s season 4 for me. The Ralph storyline and the whitecaps debacle are the only redeeming points for me. Maybe I just like 1-3 so much, that 4 looks bad in comparison.
I also never got the impression that Melfi was just starting out as a therapist in season 1. She’s presumably around 40 in season 1. It doesn’t really make sense that she’d JUST be finishing residency and only just starting out. If anything, she could be newly going into private practice, but there’s really no information in season 1 that would lead to that conclusion at all.
My brother lived in a house close to “Whitecaps”.
Agreed. Anyone who downplays the importance of the dream sequences doesnt deserve to have their opinion be take seriously
No those episodes are bad and you’re trying to sound smart for liking them.
@dr.daredvil612 in a simple times I was just trying to say that it was well crafted by everybody on the team
Tony was in a coma for not even 2 episodes the argument he's in one for half of 6A is just wrong

The Sopranos is not considered one of the best TV shows of all time. The Sopranos is considered THE best TV show of all time.
Eh. Top 5.
The Wire has the #1 spot and Oz definitely has #2.. So by default Sopranos is easily #3 for me.
According to you and others. It's just a matter of opinion.
Band of Brothers. Breaking Bad. Better Call Saul. Mad Men. The Wire. The Sopranos
The defining moment of season one and the whole series for that matter is the College episode where Tony becomes our first true television anti-hero by strangling an old friend, season one was one of the best in my opinion!
Correct. HBO fought it, but "College" is considered a landmark episode for television.
If livia didnt die in real life, I think the show would have been completely different.
Season 1 had some lackluster episodes. So did the beginning of season 6. Seasons 2 & 3 are Peak Sopranos...
Favorite season is 5. Most won't agree but my least favorite is 3. Just felt like the least happens in that season and the plot lines dont wrap up until season 4
Plus the first episode of S3 is the worst. Just a montage of the cops surveilling Tony.
5 is the worst lol. Buscemi ruined the season. I HATED his character.
I agree.. All season 3 had going was "Pine Barrens" & the episode with Jackie Jr robbing the card game, and that stuff happened near the end of S3..
Jackie Jr was killed in season 3, Gloria is shown the door in season 3, only Ralphie wasn’t resolved
Worst season of sopranos is still better than most of whole shows nowadays.
Not better than Breaking Bad or Mad Men.
@@SpicyTexan64it is
Interesting take.
I stopped watching in Season 5. I love Buscemi but he felt like a Hollywood actor appearing in a show about real people.
Season 5 finale is what makes that whole season. Blundetto’s involvement all of the sudden is confusing, but the final episode in the season is so gripping, imo making it worth watching it all the way so you can truly absorb the power of the last episode. My jaw dropped when they showed us who took care of That Animal
This is crazy because we wouldn’t be on this channel if it wasn’t for season 1
Do you think that the real life death of Livia has anything to do with this, or do you think it would have gone downhill anyway?
Season 2 is better than 1, 3 bettee than2, etc. y'all gotta rewatch the show again man
Worst season is season 6B. Not every show has to come tumbling down. So many mysteries left. Chris did not have to go. What a weak reason too.
I would probably say 4, not because its bad, but because the rest of them feel more essential as a whole.
I can understand this! I feel like I appreciated 4 more this time around given how much character work it did for Tony, Ralphie, Artie, and others. But it's certainly more of a series of character studies as opposed to plot progression.
They’re each so unique
6a - Tony's dream and Vito's life in the small village are so boring.
2,3 and 5 were my favourite
A Hit is a Hit was one of the better episodes imo. Exploring the historical aspect of studio moguls like Hesh taking advantage of African American artists was a great piece of writing.
my estimation of @drew3865 as a man just plummeted.
I watched the Sopranos in Denmark.

Interesting. I strongly believe Season 4 was a masterpiece.
The scene where she vomits in the interrogation room bothers me to this day. I felt so bad for her.
Season 4 easily the worst. Johnny Sack and Ralphie storylines only redeeming qualities.
6th season is the worst hands down. aj is intolerable, gandolfini phones in some
episodes, the episodes when he’s shot are an endless slog, i love you johnny cakes, and phil leotarda is an annoying bore.
The fact that season 1 is obviously the worst says a lot about how good the show is as a whole. It's a great season, just a little awkward at the very start when they were leaning on goodfellas a little bit too much.
1 & 2 could be considered weaker but I couldn't choose which one is worse.
2 is literally one of the best
@@ruledbyvenus2041 Agreed. 😄
3 is much worse than 1 and 2 I barely remember what happens other than the Pine Barrens episode
You say that when season six dedicated half its focus time to a previously minor character being homosexual.
WORST
every second Janice is on the screen
Yeah the Vito situation could have been resolved in three episodes. Dedicating six of them to it was insanity.
The worst season is season 6 because the show ended
Test Dream is a hero in this house.
Great job I agree with you on this whole video. Iam a huge soprano fan. I thought the acting got better and better as the show went on. I wasn’t a huge fan of the later seasons in the beginning but now I tend to like them the most now the writing is very deep and dark and acting is absolutely amazing.
Season 5 was just sad seeing everything unwind. Season 2 is my fav the height ❤
I love Season 2 as well. I think Season 5 is excellent but I think it needed some humour to balance a very dark season. With Junior confined to a facility with dementia I missed his wit.
Christopher episode was ahead of its time. It’s a jab at work culture and identity politics.
Season 6 A , stupid storylines , and the Vito thing. Tony everyday is a gift , and lack of rival. Clever B.S.
These people in the comments don’t understand why later seasons are better than the first. I totally agree with you on this take. I love every single season, but the first is definitely the one season that is completely different.
My rankings:
1. Season 2
2. Season 3
3. Season 6 part b
4. Season 5
5. Season 6 part a
6. Season 1
You’re missing season 4!
@@SopranoTheories haha whoops it would be a spot higher than season one
He is not in a coma for a majority of the season. He's not even in a coma for half of the 1st half of season 6. 2 episodes out of 12 in part 1. 2 episodes out of 21 in total. And he comes out of it before episode 3 Mayham even ends. 2 episodes (1/6th of part 1 & 1/10.5 in total). How the hell is that even remotely a "majority of the season"?
If all seasons were home runs, season 1 is a ground rule double
I felt like the Vito storyline in Season 6 dragged out far too long
Season 6 is good but it’s hard to watch just because it’s so dark.
Season 6 is a masterpiece, shame on you 😂
I thought the show hit its stride in the fifth episode of season one when Tony committed his first on screen kill of the snitch
First season is a classic , not a fan of 5 . Steve buscemi is a brilliant actor but seemed corny and didn’t like the cousin plot
I'd say season 5 is my least favorite. I couldn't bring myself to care about Tony B. at all.
Season 6 for me. Some very good episodes but a lot of disconnected and disjointed storytelling, huge jumps in time... made it a far less enjoyable season for me.
I think Season 4 is my least favorite season. It's still good but not as good as the others.
I love Season 4 as well.
It was all down hill once Livia was gone, but the last season was definitely the worst.
The show really went uphill after the towers fell
Good job, well thought out. Watch the continuous upward inflection at the end of a lot of your thoughts. Keep making vids!
Season 4 is the “worst”. Besides Chrissy’s rehab there isn’t a whole lot going on. Very slow burn
Season 3 is the worst. All the meadow plot lines.
-Vito's adventures in Vermont
-Carmela and Furio's amor fou
-Tony B
-Anything with Chris and Hollywood
-Season 5 AJ
-Ralph as the season four antagonist
In my opinion season 3. Ralph was a good addition and the tracie subplot was good, but I struggle to remember anything else besides pine barrens
Anyone who thinks Christopher is a bad episode is wild
I think it’s terrible.
Season 4 is the worst. Outside of Ralph's death and Junior's start of dementia, nothing happens. It's kind of boring to be honest.
It's season 6 without question; the show falls apart as it goes after peaking somewhere in the middle.
Season 1 remains the greatest opening season to any show.
After season one, there was no e-mail at Satriani's.
Season 6 and Season 7/Season 6A & B. But Season 6 B/Season 7 is the worst or the worst for sure. Not even close.
When I talk about some weird edits and voice over edits I show that clip! YES THANK YOU 🙏🏻
I feel season 2 ... I felt it had a lot of great moments and actually moved it forward to set it up, into it's best content. Buuuuuut, I thought it was kind of cliche and a sort of didn't know what it wanted to do at first..
(I think season 3 is where it found itself from then on)
Season 2 is the best. Season 1 is outdated for various reasons.
@@erickennedy8534yeah. Season 2 is fantastic. Richie getting whacked and and episode after that was puss getting clipped, was thee equivalent to the battle of the bastards and Cersei blowing up the sept in back to back episodes for me. Lol
Season 3 for me. I just can't stand the whole Meadow, Caitlin and Noah arcs. I have to skip all the scenes they have together
And here's my thoughts on the other seasons because why not (he says!)
I love Season 1.
Nah, I won't stand for this S1 Sopranos slander!
I don't get the hate for season 4. Season 6 part two would be my vote for the worst season. It's mostly filler until the last two episodes.
This is the worst take of all the Sopranos videos I’ve ever seen.
None.
Tony was only in a coma for 3 episodes though...hardly most of the season lol
The final season, that mess was depressing AF.
Hell no
You have No idea what you're talking about.
I guess that's personal preference, as I found myself liking the later seasons better and I was more engaged, too. Depressing ≠ bad.
@@schrisdellopoulos9244 You're right my friend. I have no clue which season I think is the worst 🤡
