    It would be great to see a video aimed at total beginners with more time being taken to explain the set up and steps required to record.

      Totally agree- I just get totally turned off this software after watching theses videos- it does seem like the software has some great capabilities- however these tutorials do not seem very focused or definitive.

      I have to agree with the views expressed. It would help beginners ,who surely this is aimed, at if you slowed down and didn't assume prior knowledge as this is a technique as much as a product presentation. For example, e.g. when adding a Bus @ 3:10, I found myself asking not only 'why?', but 'what the heck is a Bus?'. The Graphics are good and your' voice is clear but I think I'm getting lost here and I don't think I'm the only one.

    4:33 Overwrite actually doesn't overwriteanything, but just hides the section of the previous take that you record on. If you want the old take back or want to crossfade them in any way, you just drag the outline of the old take to get the over-recorded part back.

    Thanks! However, one important thing I'm requesting, please is: once you create a track, how to select it and adjust the volume up or down? After all, the initial volume setting is an intelligent (or based on experience!) guess!

I've tried all around the edges as well to get the triangle, but it's always the " ] "half backwards square symbol instead. Any help would be much appreciated.

      That's because the input volume on a track would be controlled from the audio interface itself. You would increase or decrease the gain on the preamp knob for that input on the hardware.

      @@YourHomeRecording Copied my previous comment. Its an easy fix. Go into cakewalk and ensure these two things:
      1) Preferences (hit "P" on keyboard) > Playback and Recording > Uncheck "Suspend Audio Engine When Cakewalk Is Not in Focus"
      2) Preferences > Driver Settings > Sampling Rate dropdown box > ensure that the sampling rate is equivalent to the sampling rate set in windows for your playback device. The default for Windows 10 should be 48000 Hz. You can check and change what windows is using for the sampling rate by going into the sound settings in the control panel, finding your playback device, clicking on properties > advanced and it should be displayed there. Its recommended you set it at 44100 or 48000 (either works). The important thing is that the sampling rate set in cakewalk must match the sampling rate set in windows, otherwise weird stuff happens and youtube videos will buffer or not playback correctly with sound.

      Cakewalk doesn't allow more than one soundcard to be used at once. Meaning, your computer has one internally, and the interface is actually a soundcard. You can set it up to monitor live vocals or output from the computer, also, the 2 can be blended. Sometimes there will be a latency, the sound from the computer will be behind the live monitoring on the interface.

    • @Xarata873
      @Xarata873 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@chirochrisf True, but nowhere in the title does it say it is for people just learning recording in general. This is just a set of overview videos for people moving to Cakewalk from other DAWs. If there's anything you don't understand then you could make a note and google it to get a better understanding. Or look up a video about recording concepts for beginners. Most DAWs are very similar in capabilities and only different in layout, so even if the tutorial you watch may use Ableton or Reaper, you can still carry over those basic principles in Cakewalk.

    • @johncaccioppo1142
      @johncaccioppo1142 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a steep learning curve, but it's not the program or the teacher, it's your lack of experience that is frustrating you. The only way to fix that is to keep trying, take breaks, try other programs, come back, take more breaks and give it more time. As in, months, versus days or weeks.
      If this was easy everyone would do it, there would be no need for videos and it wouldn't be nearly as impressive to do. There is a ton of functionality packed into this kind of software. Don't be afraid to play with other programs, it can really help to learn the basics.

    I can't believe how stupidly complicated they make these DAWs. The complexity associated with selecting the right drivers and inputs/outputs is unbelievable. The programmers must be really dumb. All I'm trying to do is record from a microphone and a VST drum machine. Really basic, but problems galore.

      It is frustrating, but don't give up. I see people having success and these comments can be educational. I've changed my own mindset here, thinking in terms of months instead of weeks will give me a lot more persistence. After several months of banging my head on Cakewalk I think I'm actually starting to understand some basics even though I had to go back to recording with Audacity and slog through that learning curve, this video is making a lot more sense now.

      This software is for studio engineers, not for musicians. It's totally worthless to the general public. We musicians who read music & arrange music the way people have done for over 100 years were very satisfied with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.03.
      We were satisfied with Windows XP 32 bit & a computer that had PCI slots for our SB live & Audigy cards witch supported sf2 sound font banks. Now we have 64 bit windows 10 which is our worst nightmare. The new computers don't have PCI slots & creative Lab don't make USB sound cards that support sf2 sound fonts. Creative abandoned us. Band Labs & Creative don't give a dam about us. I'm waiting for the first company to come up with a USB sound card that supports sf2 but we also need a computer that will let us install Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.03. I believer PG Music is on the right track with their Band In A box.
      If PG comes to the rescue of we musician's, who number in the thousands, they could stand to make a lot of money. It's all caused by greed folks.

      It's the best I've seen so far. I've had to watch it many times and failed many times. It's taking me three months and all I can say is that everything is a steep learning curve. If you find a free DAW that is both easy to use and as complex as this one, let me know. I've been recording on Audacity the last month and it's super basic, but it helped me understand a bunch of stuff that I can now apply to understanding what it going on in this video.
      It gets a bit disappointing when I read all the comments from lost people, I was ready to give up many times, but when I realized the problem was my inexperience I started thinking I should put some encouragement in here for others.
