Hi, great video. I a returning beginner to the audio recording world and I'm at 3:54. You mention a drum pad. I heard you say 'when properly configured and connected in the preferences menu, the midi controller will show up as an input device'. I managed to find it with some clicking around and a bit of guesswork, and I think that I have got it correct (just about to test). But it would be great if you could explain how to set these preferences in this video. It assumes that everyone would be able to find these settings with no prior experience of DAW's.

Could you slow down...I cannot tell what you are clicking on. at 4:30 in this video. Cant you highlight the cursor movements. I am very familiar with the older version of Cakewalk ( I was one of the beta testers way back then) but this video assumes a certain familiarity with the tool and in my cast the UI is very new.
I don't here the midi keyboard that I set up with this musical project-----on this same project when i am trying to record a vocal part the midi it does not play where I can here it with music, I can here the drums audio however, is this some type of input or output issue ( or just your expert---advice needed). ....That I don't quiet understand? Is there any tutorial explaining on how to set up cakewalk to record external vdrums via midi? There are so many menu sertings I just cant manage to set it all up. Its crazy 😳
Did you get it sorted out? I have e drums and it took me some time to get it done right. Specifically, I had to create a midi track and select the e drums, td-17, as the input and the output to hear the drums. I can record the whole drum kit to one track and then run a CAL script to create a separate track for each drum piece. I can record to multiple tracks in EZDRUMMER 3 using its mixer. I've also created a drum map for the td-17 to record to multiple tracks. This stuff can get very complicated and frustrating. Midi drums are a lot more difficult to setup compared to a midi keyboard using its own internal sounds or using it as a midi controller for a vst instrument.
Hi, I can't hear any audio from Cakewalk. No sounds from midi instruments whatsoever. My laptop audio driver is fine; I checked the volume and it made the ping as it does when you change the volume.
Had the same issue at the beginning - If you use the default driver that is one Cakewalk can not work with. You can (as far as I know) either use an external soundcard or download an additional driver that overclocks the soundcard. (I use ASIO4ALL, but there are others as well)
@@RuaridhWilson Good idea, that is what I discovered is the ASIO4All drivers stop you from using youtube and the Streaming services. Amazon Music Unlimited HD and UltraHD works with MME.
Something must have went wrong with the 2019 upgrade. It is almost impossible to move the velosity markers up or down. And the looping in the grove clip menu, it is not possible to put a mark there, in sqare little box, there are no.

You didn't follow instructions and install the Studio Instruments plugins. It's in this video series, and also there's a separate video on the channel about it.
@@YourHomeRecording did all that, multiple installs and re-installs, I found it installed the VSTi's as VST's and not instruments, I could add the instrument as an fx but not a instrument/midi channel, dont know how that happens, after thinking im an idiot who cant even start a vsti on a new software, I found a fix. I installed cakewalk "without" studio instruments and only after it was installed and working I went back to the bandlabs app and installed the instruments alone. Now I can choose the instruments on the dropdown menu. .
am i able to drag in an audio file from a sound kit and trigger it using the step sequencer or piano roll? i find it easier to use the step sequencer for event placement vs dragging audio files along the time grid.
Okay I second that year old request to record external MIDI modules/keyboards etc.. into Cakewalk and record the audio from those instruments. I like many of them and they are not available as VSTi's. Can it be done at all? I am struggling to do this and need finding some tips to do so.
Really wish you would have shown exactly how to access a drum module like a Roland or whatever in preferences through usb cable straight from module to laptop. And also would be cool to know how to assign different sounds from vst to your triggers on your module using cakewalk. GarageBand makes it crazy easy to do this and I’m having a hard time trying to do the same with cakewalk

That means the SI-instruments are not installed. You need to go back to part 1 of the series and use the BandLab assistant to install the SI-instruments with Cakewalk. If that doesn't work out, you may need to contact BandLab support.

Usually it installs with it if you check it off. You can try reinstalling it through the BandLab assistant again, but other than that I'm not sure what happened.
I have the studio instruments folder (1.21 GB) in my pc. It's in the Cakewalk folder. Is it anothe way to open it in Cakewalk, than the way you show here in this video at 0.50 ?
Hi, I don't know why in the piano roll I don't hear the sound of the instruments or the notes of the piano. When I use a sample beats it works, but when I try to play on my own it doesn't work, I hear no sound at all. I even tried to take a sample, then delete the notes and put other notes, but it still doesn't work, what do I have to do?
i have been using cakewalk software for years but when it turn to sonar it seem that the program cannot or looses its own files that you create. i have lost so many songs because when i open up a song i have been working on it says the audio is lost or does not exist, when i just recorded the day before. just does not work and i recommend nobody waste your time, money and effort on this program. if you try to get customer service you will be going in circles with no help! so unhappy with everything i lost..
Whenever you record any audio tracks, cakewalk makes a copy of them and puts them in folders. This is great if you go to lose something because every take is on file somewhere, but that is also where cakewalk pulls audio from each time you open a project. If something has happened or you have moved the project file from where the program is looking for audio, it will make it appear as if your tracks are gone simply because it cannot find the folder the audio is stored in
how do i use captain chords with this? i have no actual hardwar to use with the program just the vst plugins and loop. i tried to launch captain n i cant get sound to my track
Can anyone provide some info to a noob on how to use an electronic drum kit to trigger the session drummer vst? I got it to work but I don't think I'm doing it right. Clicked and dragged session drummer from instruments to the track pane, selected midi source, this created two tracks, I honestly don't remember my inputs and outputs but I do remember I had to create a third track (midi) with my drum kit as the input and output. This is when I finally heard sound. I was thinking that I would only need two tracks, one with the drum kit as the input and the vst drums as the output. Confusion is abounding.
Cakewalk has a virtual keyboard that will allow you to behave like your keyboard has a modulation wheel even if it doesn't have one. when you talk about midi controllers that means what's the difference between midi recording and audio recording. They are different and you create the midi version first then you can record that as an audio clip. I don't like working with audio loops , I find midi far more flexible.
TTS is a general midi instrument. If you have tracks of songs hopefully most people put them in that format. It's akin to Groove Monkee's sounds being used in battery (drum program ) where all the sounds have no standandered and you have to create your own drum map to assign them to the keys that make up a rhythm.
No matter what I do, when attempting into " edit - preferences " mode, the white panel comes out so large I cannot enter the "save or apply " at the bottom of it's page. I have changed screen resolutions and the size of the whole Bandlab Cakewalk module, but each time that panel comes out so large I can't make the changes and go forward. 4 years working with ProTools very well, thought I'd try Cakewalk but this is ridiculous!

You can't hear a midi track on its own. You have to either output it into an audio track or replace it by an instrument track. Check Cakewalk's online help for more info.
Can I record vocals with antares autotune plug in... like actually in line live. I know how to record vocals and add plug in effects after the fact...but is there a way to do it during recording?

Yeah that is the nature of the experts, I have been known to take 2 hours to write out a college material's class and created 4 pages out of a 6 minute conversation where the vocabulary was foreign but needed. Such is the nature of learning
You need to move the Now Time marker to the end or a little further and it depends sometimes when you are building up a song you want the sections to be seperate

@@smugism1685 Cakewalk BandLab I'm sure still comes with Session Drummer 3 there are many vendors that sell midi drum grooves. I like Groove Monkee, but there is loop loft, and also the drumsets come many times with a load of patterns too. Komplete for example is an outstanding value when they go on sale. It includes the Studio Drummer series. or Biab Band in a Box comes with RealDrums and RealTracks which are basically a tape strip of many musicians actually playing. PG Music
Transpose midi effect does not work. I put in on a midi channel and adjust,nothing happens to the midi. Do I have to select the midi notes in the midi track. In Reaper ,you can rmb click and select all notes,Cakewalk does not have this.

Cakewalk works well with 32bit VSTs. Clicks and noise are usually an audio problem. Do you use an audio interface? If not then you should. Windows audio drivers are pretty crappy. If you use ASIO already you might want to change the buffer setting in the audio menu. However, some of the free 32bit VST synths are not well coded. They may cause a lot of problems.
Guido Rehder i'm using focusrite scarlet solo 2nd gen..buffer in 512 but still some buzzes and weird noise come out before the sound..but 64bit plugin is working perfectly..are you encountered same thing?
Hey Ardian Fajar, I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett myself and everything works well. 512 sounds like the mixing buffer to me, 11.6 msec 512 samples. Have you checked the setting under ASIO panel? The buffer may be set at 18ms or lower. That can cause problems. By the way, is that happening with all 32bit plugins? If Cakewalk didn't accept those at all, you wouldn't be able to load them. Have you tried to re-install the ASIO driver? Which OS are you using? I'm running Win 8.1 and I haven't had any problems.
Have tried to record 4 tracks at the same time with 4 different microphones on accoustic drumkit by an extern interface u- phoria umc 404hd (4 inputs) but it will not succeed, maybe I tried out the wrong settings. Can anyone tell me what settings I've to do?
Do you have the ASIO4ALL driver installed? That’s needed for the audio interface. Then you should be able to access all the inputs. Set your tracks to different inputs in Cakewalk, arm for recording, and record.
@@marcelvereycken There is a program called Peavey Revalver. 4 It is a guitar amp simulator, but what is nice about it is that it has many speaker cabinets and the speakers are spotted with ideas of where the mikes would be placed. It's not an open grid like in Amplitube. I learned a lot about how sound changes at different points because of this program. Also the website has quality discussions about how sounds can be thought of deferentially. It also emulates like 14 different microphones which is another plus.
Where are the instruments? They are shown as .ins files from the download but are not installed. This program seems broken. I was going to buy it until I spent 4 hours trying to make the instruments work to no avail.
I have found the midi editing tools in Cakewalk to be unbelievably buggy and unnecessarily cryptic to use. I have been using Cakewalk/Sonar since the early 90's and it wasn't this buggy until Bandlab took over the company. I suspect they tried to fix something that wasn't broken and ended up ruining the software.
You can always reset the whole thing. I had to create a different workspace to be able to work with Tutorials and listen to music that I would then try to mimic. By unchecking every midi4all I got it to reset back to MME and gained those properties back. It's not so much that the software is buggy, it's the program is deep.
@@leightoncooper1178 No, it has actual bugs. Like not letting you lengthen or shorten a midi note in the piano roll. I started a new project and recreated exactly what I was trying to do and it lets me adjust the note length.....that's a bug. There were others on the Cakewalk forum complaining about this bug as well.
I recorded a midi virtual bass line to go under some audio tracks. Great. Froze the midi bass to audio, then edited the ends of the song and dragged the whole song to the left to get it closer to the start of the timeline. Great. Problem is I wanted to then edit the timing of some of the midi bass notes so I unfroze the synth bass ....and....hey presto the midi notes when unfrozen are still in the original position in the timeline and no longer in line with the audio so it's impossible to edit whilst listening to the track as it doesn't play in time. Not great. Very not great. In fact it's infuriating, like many functions on Cakewalk which do not operate logically to my mind. I'm sure there may be a way to do this but Cakewalk does not make anything intuitive or logical to find. Mind you I'm an averagely IT literate musician not a computer programmer.

Try changing your driver mode (Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording) to MME

It took some tinkering but I was able to get captain chords to work. It's fidgety and will play the wrong thing if the plugin window is left open

Yeah that is the nature of the experts, I have been known to take 2 hours to write out a college material's class and created 4 pages out of a 6 minute conversation where the vocabulary was foreign but needed. Such is the nature of learning
How can i change the instrument in tts-1? The sound will change in the setup but in my midi keys its on still piano.

whenever i place a midi note, no matter where i place it in the piano roll, it always places itself at the beginning of the piano roll view.
you have grid snap set to the whole note
correction, it places itself where the playerhead is. its really annoying and makes piano roll unusable for me.
i just go to the top and set the grid snap to 1/16 and it’s a lot better
some times with midi, notes dont copy properly when right clicking selecting copy and then stepping to where you want to copy whats going wrong
You need to move the Now Time marker to the end or a little further and it depends sometimes when you are building up a song you want the sections to be seperate
For some reason my first instrument track (out of 5) isnt working right all of a sudden. When i got record, i hit the keys on my keyboard and hear NOTHING. None of the other tracks do this. I really need help!
Press p and go to prefences and go to audio and recoding and change the driver to MME

@@smugism1685 Cakewalk BandLab I'm sure still comes with Session Drummer 3 there are many vendors that sell midi drum grooves. I like Groove Monkee, but there is loop loft, and also the drumsets come many times with a load of patterns too. Komplete for example is an outstanding value when they go on sale. It includes the Studio Drummer series. or Biab Band in a Box comes with RealDrums and RealTracks which are basically a tape strip of many musicians actually playing. PG Music

Transpose midi effect does not work.
I put in on a midi channel and adjust,nothing happens to the midi.
Do I have to select the midi notes in the midi track.
In Reaper ,you can rmb click and select all notes,Cakewalk does not have this.

Your instruments plugins may need "Record Enable" if it doesn't work or some only works when you select back onto this "Virtual Controller' (looks like a piano)with your mouse depending on how 'well' the plugin was created.
When I play back my track the sound only comes through one head piece. How do I make it come through both?
Most instruments are panned left or right when they are recorded there are options to decide that. Listen to Purple Haze for that example

Cakewalk works well with 32bit VSTs. Clicks and noise are usually an audio problem. Do you use an audio interface? If not then you should.
Windows audio drivers are pretty crappy. If you use ASIO already you might want to change the buffer setting in the audio menu. However,
some of the free 32bit VST synths are not well coded. They may cause a lot of problems.
Guido Rehder i'm using focusrite scarlet solo 2nd gen..buffer in 512 but still some buzzes and weird noise come out before the sound..but 64bit plugin is working perfectly..are you encountered same thing?
Hey Ardian Fajar, I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett myself and everything works well. 512 sounds like the mixing buffer to me, 11.6 msec 512 samples. Have you checked the
setting under ASIO panel? The buffer may be set at 18ms or lower. That can cause problems. By the way, is that happening with all 32bit plugins? If Cakewalk didn't accept
those at all, you wouldn't be able to load them. Have you tried to re-install the ASIO driver? Which OS are you using? I'm running Win 8.1 and I haven't had any problems.

Have tried to record 4 tracks at the same time with 4 different microphones on accoustic drumkit by an extern interface u- phoria umc 404hd (4 inputs) but it will not succeed, maybe I tried out the wrong settings. Can anyone tell me what settings I've to do?
Do you have the ASIO4ALL driver installed? That’s needed for the audio interface. Then you should be able to access all the inputs. Set your tracks to different inputs in Cakewalk, arm for recording, and record.

@@marcelvereycken There is a program called Peavey Revalver. 4 It is a guitar amp simulator, but what is nice about it is that it has many speaker cabinets and the speakers are spotted with ideas of where the mikes would be placed. It's not an open grid like in Amplitube. I learned a lot about how sound changes at different points because of this program. Also the website has quality discussions about how sounds can be thought of deferentially. It also emulates like 14 different microphones which is another plus.

Make sure it's all selected (highlighted) - that's how Sonar used to work - I'm just getting started with bandlab.

Where are the instruments? They are shown as .ins files from the download but are not installed. This program seems broken. I was going to buy it until I spent 4 hours trying to make the instruments work to no avail.

I have found the midi editing tools in Cakewalk to be unbelievably buggy and unnecessarily cryptic to use. I have been using Cakewalk/Sonar since the early 90's and it wasn't this buggy until Bandlab took over the company. I suspect they tried to fix something that wasn't broken and ended up ruining the software.
You can always reset the whole thing. I had to create a different workspace to be able to work with Tutorials and listen to music that I would then try to mimic. By unchecking every midi4all I got it to reset back to MME and gained those properties back. It's not so much that the software is buggy, it's the program is deep.
@@leightoncooper1178 No, it has actual bugs. Like not letting you lengthen or shorten a midi note in the piano roll. I started a new project and recreated exactly what I was trying to do and it lets me adjust the note length.....that's a bug. There were others on the Cakewalk forum complaining about this bug as well.

I recorded a midi virtual bass line to go under some audio tracks. Great. Froze the midi bass to audio, then edited the ends of the song and dragged the whole song to the left to get it closer to the start of the timeline. Great.
Problem is I wanted to then edit the timing of some of the midi bass notes so I unfroze the synth bass ....and....hey presto the midi notes when unfrozen are still in the original position in the timeline and no longer in line with the audio so it's impossible to edit whilst listening to the track as it doesn't play in time. Not great. Very not great.
In fact it's infuriating, like many functions on Cakewalk which do not operate logically to my mind. I'm sure there may be a way to do this but Cakewalk does not make anything intuitive or logical to find. Mind you I'm an averagely IT literate musician not a computer programmer.
