I recently started using Cakewalk, I really like it. It's the first recording software that I have ever used. I mainly want to make guitar instrumentals. I want to add in midi tracks using the strings and drums. I still need a midi keyboard/controller for strings and drums. Is there someplace to get good free drum tracks? Looking for Progressive Metal drum tracks. I definitely can't play drums.
When I comp record audio, the track mutes the previous tracks like it should...When I comp record MIDi virtual instruments..the previous tracks are NOT MUTED ? How do I fix this?

great tutorial, i got a question- when i use this DAW and try to use my headphones / earphones for some reason the sound is produce by the pc and not on my earphones. Is there something i could do so that the sound is able to come from the from the earphones / headphones ?
Years ago I used that fantastic "Cakewalk 3.0" under Win98, and my Technics KN2000 with a MidiSport1-USB Port to my PC. At that time i created a few hundred songs, they were stored as ".wrk"-files. Lots of them aren't complete. Nowadays I'd like to work on my old compositions again to complete them. MY QUESTION: Would I be able to work on my old ".WRK"-files with this actual Cakewalk-version?...can the new Cakewalk program read my old ".wrk"-formatted files? (I couldn't find a way to get my beloved "Cakewalk 3.0" run on my Win7 64 bit-PC) Would be great to hear from you! Greetz from the Rhine :-)
Because the file extension for this new version of Cakewalk is .cwp or .cwb my guess is your old files will not be readable. The good news is this new version of Cakewalk is free so you can give it a try with nothing to lose.

Go into BandLab Assistant. On Cakewalk's section, you should see an arrow pointing down next to the "Open" option. Click it and click "Install Add-ons" Make sure you have "Studio Instruments Suite" installed. Still not working? Open Cakewalk. Hit "P". Hit VST Settings. Change "Scan Options" to "Manual Scan". Fill in the two boxes "Rescan Failed Plugins" and "Rescan All Plugins". Hit "Scan." That did the trick for me. If that didn't work, I'd contact Bandlab.

When I go to make an Instrument Track. There are no SI Instruments there for me to choose. help!

yea how do you find the SI instruments inside Cakewalk
You need to go back to the instructions from Part 1, and make sure you install Cakewalk with the SI Instruments. Otherwise they will not show up.

Run the BandLab assistant, go to Apps. Under Cakewalk click the dropdown, click install add-ons, and select Studio Instruments Suite.

False. They are included with the Bandlab version, but need to be installed separately from the Bandlab Assistant. That's how I got them installed.
