    Just out of curiosity why didn't you use the 210 gr ABLR in the 300 PRC? Nosler has data for it on their website and show a max velocity of 3083 fps.

    • @ReloadingWeatherby
      @ReloadingWeatherby  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it does. Hence why I said the 300 PRC could be faster than 30 Nosler and 300 Weatherby.

    RW, another good video. Basically highlighting that the 30 pool is crowded. I'd hate to have a gun shop today and try to stock all the flavors of fast 30's. Some of these redundant cartridges will not survive. Similar to how the 308 Norma, 300 RUSM and 300 H&H are all but forgotten today. Really a situation of SSDS (Same Sh!t Different Smell). Maybe we've reached maximum capacity of the cartridge pool. But America is a 30 caliber country and there will always be new 30's on the horizon. Hey, it keeps it fun and interesting. Maybe the LR target shooters will find a use for the new ones. Personally I look at Nosler as a bullet company not a rifle company. That's more based on the rude and arrogant people they had in their booth at a trade show when they rolled out their model 48. Keep the videos coming and all the best in the coming new year.
    Cheers, Jeff

      There are only 2, 30 cal cartridges that outsell the 300 Win Mag, 308 Win and 30-06. When the 300 PRC or 30 Nosler (Almost identical in size/shape/cap) become as available, might want some more omph. Meanwile will stick to 300WM. The Champs in performance are 300RUM, 300Norma Mag and the 30-378 WBY.

    Just curious I have the 28 nosler.

    I don’t know that I would call the .300 RUM an inefficient cartridge. Yes, by the loading manuals it may appear so, however it just needs a slower burning powder. I use WC860 or H869 and get excellent performance. The right powder for the cartridge is essentially.

    The popularity of a certain new cartridge much depends on gun manufacturers chambering their rifles for it... How many large manufacturers other than nosler chamber rifles in .30 Nosler? Now, according to your numbers for the different .300 magnums out to 700 yards, there is really nothing new under the sun with the new ones.

    As good as the 7mm bore size is, the heavier 30 caliber bullets offer more killing power. If you already own a 30 caliber rifle it is difficult to justify a 7mm even though there is a slight ballistic and lower recoil advantage .

    • @ReloadingWeatherby
      @ReloadingWeatherby  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. It's why I've waited so long on getting a 7mm cartridge. I just don't see the need of it with owning a 30 caliber.

      @@ReloadingWeatherby A 175 grain partition fire from a 7mm mag is awesome but a 200 to 220grain bullet fired from a 300 mag is even more awesome. You can go further into 338 mags for more awesome with 250 to 300 grain bullets for ultimate awesome. Once you get past 338 calibers ballistic coefficients of larger diameter bullets go down to hamper long range shooting. It depends what long range is to a shooter. 375H&H and 378 Weatherby magnum would still carry a lot of energy down range at practical shooting distance.

      @@ReloadingWeatherby Ahh, the need of a 7mm. I've always been a 7mm guy, so I'm very biased, but...I've been around numerous 300's. Mostly 300 win mags, but two 300 rums that I'm very familiar with. They are all elk killing machines, and so is my 7 Rum, but the one thing they don't have is the accuracy. Don't get me wrong, they are all accurate guns, but not 1/2 moa. I've only seen one 300 win mag shoot close to my 7 Rum but it took a custom barrel, custom brake, and stock to do it.

My Ideal 30 Cal magnum would be a 30 Nosler in a Magnum 3.7-3.8" Action/magazine. Ok you got the 300Wby and the 300RUM but you are limited to seat out those long bullets. 🕵️‍♂️ FYI: As I Just Informed Chuck (Alaskan Ballistics) - The Less Powder a Cartridge Uses, The More "Susceptible" It Is To Be Affected by Velocity Changes From Temperature, as a Percent (%) of the Total Velocity! 🥶

      Good stuff

    • @ThatAngryJho-td3xe
      @ThatAngryJho-td3xe 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As a tinkerer in Alaska I can tell you a lot of the temperature sensitivity comes from not matching components appropriately to the task. A lot of smaller cartridges that have less thermal mass and use a lot of the less stable fast burning powders can be significantly more susceptible to velocity swings. That being said if you put in your due diligence loading at the temps you want to shoot and testing later on the other end of the extreme you can usually find fairly tight temperature related spreads with the right brass, primer, powder and amount of leftover case space after loading.
